Helping them load the fence would be considered working, and that's a big no no
This one incident may be a "low priority" crime, but these criminals are obviously involved in so much more crime. Catch them doing something stupid like this and the police could prevent something a lot worse. Absolutely sickening that we're falling this far back.
But watch how quick they'll respond with 15 cars, forensic van and a command center RV when someone takes these low lifes out. Absolutely pathetic
not if the victim is black
I would think we should redefine it as death by natural cause since everyone is just making up their own definitions now.
I remember having my car broken into a block away from the police station, called 911 to get an officer out so we could look at the cameras and was told “We don’t have anyone that will come out for that kind of call”. If you’re not going to help citizens, at least give us the means to be able to help and protect our damn selves.
Just do it. Nobody will stop you.

I genuinely do not know why people continue to live in the Bay Area any more. It's so obviously a lost cause at this point. Why stay? Rampant theft? The 1st or 2nd highest cost of living of any US city?
The solution is to leave the city entirely and let it collapse with all the decay.
Is the Oakland PD hiring? I can drive around, never get out of my cruiser or give a crap with the best of them.
I live 20 miles east of Oakland. At 69, I would like a 2nd job, like the PD ones in Oakland. I only ask that I can perform the duties virtually. I promise not to cause any distress with the corrupt elected stooges.
That's what they do bunch of cowards
I knew some dope growers and they said if you see the police don't worry they won't get out of their car, rangers on the other hand, worry they get out of their cars.
Have fun getting shot at as a police officer lol liberal Oakland voted to defund the police.
Well.. they got it 👍
THEY ARE! A lot of officers have quit to work at better agencies where the cops aren't restricted from doing their jobs. Good luck!
CALTRANS: This fence will protect against thieves
Thieves: we will steal the fence first
And now the homeless have a way back in

It was to deter the homeless, not thieves
the fence isnt to protect anything from thieves, its to prevent people from sleeping under the freeway overpass. I think thats partly why it was removed. People living on the streets are fed up with it

No, just Spanish speaking interpreters...
Those guys didn't look homeless. They're likely stealing the fences to install elsewhere, charging the customer the full amount, and pocketing the difference. But, it's such a low priority crime that the cop didn't even bother to get out of the car to look around. He or she should be terminated.

I worked at a big car dealership in Oakland in 2016. We took a car for trade in that was 3 months behind in payments, but we were paying it off. Tow truck pulled into our back lot and tried to repo it days later. The detailers locked him in the gate and said drop our car. Tow driver said "I'm going to call the police". Only in Liberal Lala land would someone have to worry about a gang of homeless people attacking your business.
With that attitude. It's no wonder your a slave. Bred a slave. Die a slave.
I was in charge of the installation of that fence. It was called the MTC project. It was supposed to be a parking lot for public transport. While we where installing the fence we had the operators for the gates stolen. Costing close to 30k. The operators housing was welded closed and they just cut it with a grinder and took them. No surprise they stole the fence when the site was basically abandoned.
It is expensive to incarcerate criminals. As Californians are learning, it is also expensive to allow criminals to run rampant.

They be woke now. They got rid of a lot of their police officers and hardly no one is putting in applications to be an officer in these California cities because of the way they were treated. SF and Oakland don't have enough officers to respond to the calls. People literally ran their police officers off and now they can't understand why the police aren't responding to every call. Remember all of the people and parents demanding the schools get rid of the school officers? Well, they did in Oakland and SF. Now parents are pissed that they can't get officers back in their schools. It's becoming a free for all even in the schools now.

Oakland is a big city. It's got a half million people, and 80 sq mi. And several neighborhoods -- some rich, some poor. It's not one uniform, homogeneous place.

Why weren't they interviewed for the piece in the first place? If they wouldn't appear on camera, have a shot of the reporter standing in front of Oakland City Hall *saying* that. Where's journalism these days? (I know the answer to that: If they badmouth the mayor she won't appear for free on their morning shows anymore, and they'd have to hire more writers and editors to fill up their "news window." So the mayors [Breed does this also] give free content to the stations, and they get white glove handling in return.)

The officers response that they didn’t see any thieves is ridiculous. Did he even pay attention to the report of what was being stolen? If he had, he’d pretty easily see that type of fence and then see who is carrying it away. When that cop said he didn’t see any thieves I wonder if he mentioned what his idea of what a thief looks like is. Because if there’s a report of a giant piece of fence being stolen and you see someone at that same location carrying a giant piece of fence, then the best way to figure out who the thief is is, hey, maybe it’s that person carrying the giant piece of fence.
Isn’t it funny how demeaning, demoralizing, and defunding the police actually came with expected consequences? California has NEVER understood the term “expected consequences”. They only understand the term “immediate gratification”. They want what they want, when they want it, without any thought of consequences. It’s the same way that Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, D.C., and Baltimore operate. They are doomed by their own policies. Liberal, progressive policies which never anticipate “expected consequences”.
What happens when they get defunded/fired and put on trial for doing their job.

@Player1 Going to the extreme would lessen crime but also give incentive for criminals to do even worse.
If I was criminal and going to get the death sentence for stealing why would I stop at stealing?
If the sentence is death regardless of the crime killing the person I'm stealing from and removing a witness would lessen the chance of my execution.
So they got the fence to protect against thieves? Is it going to work for them?
Are they stealing the fence for themselves or to open space for campers? Why is there a fence around an empty lot?

Hi KPIX - why aren’t you interviewing the police???????
In Canada this summer, I saw a police chase after our bus stop the bus I was on to catch a woman who got on who had just stolen something and all she had was a tiny bag and a stroller with a baby. They took her off the bus and dealt with it. I’m talking three officers came after her. I bet she won’t do that again and either will anyone who witnessed it on the bus. Catch them and teach them a lesson! Our country is letting people get away with everything. It’s an embarrassment! It’s not safe and we will all pay for it if they don’t crack down.

Im watching this news from the Hoosier state and I'm thinking we must be living in two different countries. I have never seen this kind of confident brazenness with no regard for the law while committing a crime happens here even in our most notorious cities like Indy or Gary. Fellow Hoosiers love to open carry everywhere they go and will volunteer to do something bold even before the police come. Like that young man who saved the day at a Hoosier mall.

Here in Chicago in a certain neighborhood the city put up these really nice expensive ranch style wood fences around vacant lots for gardens. They're not nailed down. The first thought in my head was somebody gone steal these. And sure enough a majority of them have been stolen and some just broken
“Call the police! They ain’t comin!”
That’s the response of people committing crimes in Oakland
Yeah, that’s the kind of response Justine Damond got when she called to report hearing a possible rape. A cop car with a couple of cops in it showed up, only looked around-from within their car-for maybe 2 minutes then were about to leave. Yup, they were about to leave without once getting out of their car to check things out, not even to knock on the door of the person who called to ask about what she had observed. When they were about to leave that’s when Justine approached their car to talk to them-with nothing in her hands and wearing her pajamas (nothing scary). That’s when officer Noor shot her. So, those officers did next to nothing to respond to rape-not even step out of their car at all-but Officer Noor acted like a scared little mouse when approached by the woman that had called them.
And he only did like 5 yrs for that.

The police didn't have enough officers to respond to every call so they started responding to only the most serious calls.
