I feared also for his safety when he was literally laying under the handle pulling for all he was worth! I've been wacked across the head by the Jack going on unstoppable Auto Descent Mode! There are some Safety Video's here in RUclips! I'm thinking with a bit of ingenuity a Bottle Jack with a Jig to slip over the Post to Jack against and a piece of Plywood Or Board under either Jack to keep them from sinking into the ground, would be a lot safer!

    Very nice demonstration. I know that the post is stationary and isn't putting the same downward force on the hi-lift/farm jack as what a 4WD or something does, but I think its always good to practice safety and first use a baseplate or something to stop the jack stand from slipping, and secondly for your kid to be more careful around the handle kicking back up - nobody wants a broken jaw!

    • @ericl2969
      @ericl2969 Год назад +1

      The jack won't "kick back" under this kind of loading where the post is being pulled against friction, because the post won't "retract itself" back into the ground if the handle is released when a pin isn't engaged. But yes, the warnings here definitely apply when lifting a heavy load against gravity. You guys talk of broken jaws. Well, here's another warning. I knew a guy who was griping the top of the jacking beam with one hand when a pin slipped after he released the handle (his jack was dirty and poorly maintained so the pins did not engage reliably). He permanently lost the use of his thumb when the handle flew up and shattered his thumb against the jacking beam. Ever since that happened to him, I hold the beam with my thumb wrapped around it in the same direction as my other fingers, thereby leaving the "front" surface of the jacking beam bare (no fingers in danger if the handle slams into the beam). It's become a habit for me.

    Good job to parents teaching him these skills. He'll have his farm and be able to sustain himself while others with a degree in medieval arts will be living in the basement.

    The boy reminds me of myself, because my father made me do all these kinds of things too.
    I learned so much from it and as you can see from the boys' expressions, it is so satisfying.
    My 2 cents from Belgium.
