Always support that ABS....flash backs of about 20' unsupported 2" drain full of furmenting rice and Palmolive sour apple dish soap unleashed into my face pulling the clean out cap. The smell of sour apple still makes me have ptsd flash backs 20yrs later
I would've used a grinder with a wire brush and use the correct no hub coupling instead of a fernco coumbling.

what would your solution be for if your hearing scratching and lots of moving around only at night in your attic in on specific spot and how to prevent it from continuing
First step: Check roof for any roof or exterior openings, especially around the areas that your hearing. Seal them up immediately! Then set a camera to monitor inside the attic area with a twin trap.
This will provide you real intel on what’s going on and if your catching rats after you do this within 72 hour, you should be solved.
That blender trap looks sick, but definitely not for people who never had their home destroyed by rats.

Oh my lord, I want to cry, another sleepless night 😢, for the fourth year in a row, scratching right above my head, always at night. I went in the attic but they are under the insulation, no idea how they are getting in. I can’t find how! No scratching is ever heard anywhere in the house, I’ve done traps, poison. Nothing is working. I seriously want to cry!
