My grandfather helped design/build this trap. I don't think I've ever seen him as excited as when he told me he saw his trap on your channel. Matt makes good deer jerky too.
Update. My grandfather is, as of last August, no longer with us. Matt is an older gentleman and has trouble with technology, that is why it's a bit difficult to acquire the traps.

This trap worked for me. It took a really long time and a game camera. I think it was about 4 weeks total. I had trapped several rats using the good old victory style traps but there was one rat that was a genius and would set them off then take the bait.
After about three weeks of the Uhlik trap in place with the safety in, it finally began going for the bait. I then armed the trap but it wouldn’t get caught and there was evidence it was still feeding. I had to set up a camera to figure her out. She would come in through the hole in the top and hang by her feet upside down. I then simply covered the handle hole up with a brick. She was then forced to enter through the front on top of the trapdoor.
The transfer cage which is included with this trap worked very well too, exactly as the manufacture described. I was doubtful when I read the instructions but it was flawless. This video doesn’t show the transfer cage which the manufacturer claims is critical to not kill the caught rats inside the trap or else the scent of blood will throw off newcomers to it.
If you have a persistent untrappable rat I recommend this device just simply cover the handle hole on top. It’s expensive but this last lone female had already caused over $200 in damage and would have likely given birth to some equally intelligent offspring.

I only watch your trap videos. You handle the subject correctly in my humble opinion. You always pay attention to humane practices, your careful to respect the ecosystem and you never try to sensationalise killing or death. I watch The Mink Man too, a bloke who knows his animals and gets undeniably effective results.

One of the things I love about this channel is how Shawn gives exposure to small business/individuals who have built a better mousetrap. I hope Mr. Uhlik gets all the business he can handle from this video.
My guess is that he is or was an HVAC guy. Those guys know their sheet metal and whoever designed and built that trap has skills.
If you disguise the trap as a KFC deep frier, the trap will be a lot more efficient lol

Make sure to give the idea that they're naturally dead, and freak the workers out by donating live rats
I think they may not want to feed wild caught rats or mice, even if they are 100% poison free. The concern is parasites or pathogens. Safer to feed captive bread mice and rats.
Those places depend on donations to survive. They'll take the rats. The one by me does.

The videos are so messed up, I saw one that had so many rats on the glue trap that the rats started chewing on each other, ripping off legs and tails. I got sick to my stomach and never went back to those channels. Imo the channels should be banned not only demonitized since they are actively promoting animal cruelty.

You've used the right tactic by leaving the cage baited for a few days to let the rats become confident with it. A lot of people don't do that and wonder why their traps don't do well. As regards disposing of the rats would it be any better to immerse the whole trap in a bath of water and drown them. It would be relatively quick.

You are right, but the trap will most likely get rusty in the non galvanized spots. A box made from ductwork and CO2 would be more efficient.
Just build an automated blender down the cage.

you could easily incorporate a smaller trapdoor in the very far end of the main trapdoor to catch mice and small rats as well, by the time a rat reached the far end they would have tripped the main trapdoor, so it would work a treat.
Hey mate. We had a problem with a mouse getting on the house. So i got some normal mouse traps and blocked it from walking anywhere else in its path thanks to your videos. And to my surprise I got two in one night. Hopefully it was just the two and no more come.

Yer that's true but we mainly see them in the house when it's getting colder outside. And since it is now that is getting to winter, that's why we see them in the house. I believe there in the roof but the rest of my family won't do anything about the noises I hear in the roof.

It's better to not buy rats or animals in general from places like pet co (unless they have an adoption program going on). Look for reliable breeders if you want a pet rat, but make sure you properly research rat care before getting one, and don't just get them on a whim because they're cute. Make sure you know for sure you want one and are willing to give it the care and enrichment it needs.
A Mink is basically a walking doomsday device for rats

This may be one of the more awesome traps I seen on your channel. The one with the raccoons in it I’d like to see in action. I use a cheaper trap but the doors have to be readjusted from time to time. Enjoyed watching like usual.

The bait I use is actually song bird seeds, it smells really good like berries, my pet mice and rats love it and so when the house mice smell the seeds I put in my victor catch and hold trap, I get them every time.

I feed the rats I catch to my giant largemouth bass in my private pond. Some seriously vicious takedowns!
Sometime I’ll use the rats for bait by sliding a small piece of surgical tube over the tail, just a small piece, but big enough to tuck the hook under the surgical tube. Then lob the rat onto the Lilly pad field. I let the natural food chain take care of the rats.
I would not feed these rats to reptiles if I were you.
You never know what kind of nasty internal parasites those wild rats can carry.

I think they are fine as long you freeze them for about two weeks to kill all parasites and eggs.

FYI: Just checked the website. Now, instead of $200 plus $50 for shipping, the rat trap is $240 plus $200 to ship. After watching the video, I had almost rationalized spending the $250, but $440 is way over my budget. Great looking trap, though.

When did I suggest feeding wild rats to a "pet/store bought" snake hmm? You go find one or two wild snakes and feed them the rats.
