Hi everyone! I'm the designer of this trap. A little additional info: My city has a problem with norway rats, but also a ton of native wildlife - I got tired of releasing the chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, birds, and skunks that were ending up in my havahart live traps, and watching them be disabled by larger animals. This trap, so far, hasn't caught any non-target species in my testing. You can see it catching a norway rat here: ruclips.net/video/M05t1ka3dEE/видео.html Also, well done to whoever grabbed the QR code from Shawn's video. I was wondering how long that would take, and it was about 23 minutes. :)
Thank you so much Matthew for creating such an amazing trap. I don't think Disney will let me call it "Ackbar's Snack bar" without risking copyright strikes but is is a great name.
Very few of them have even managed to sign up for an Apple ID; it's disappointing, but if I was able to teach them not to chew on wires, I have every confidence that I can get them activated on the Verizon™ network.
Hello, Shawn! I've always wanted to see a trap with a laser trigger as I've mentioned to you several times in the past. No sensitivity, no escapes, a perfect example of the simple made complicated in the very best possible way. Triggers have almost always been the failure point, so... problem solved! Sounds like you and Matthew could very well team up for the perfectly designed rat trap. Trigger size doesn't matter anymore. Thank you so much.
It still took some tuning to get the laser trigger to behave; it's a time-of-flight sensor, so what it gives the code is a distance measurement that needs to be interpreted. I had an entire afternoon of debugging when ants decided to crawl over the bottom of the sensor. :)
@@phuzzynet Thank you so much for honoring me with a response. Will this trap be for sale anytime soon? When it is, please keep us posted as I couldn't find anything about it in the video description. I'm more than casually interested in one! Thank you.

One improvement is making it quieter. It seems noisy and may scare some rodents away after the previous catch. Other upgrade, make tunnel look like some more natural tunnel and entrance.
This is fantastic and super modern. TMMT has a nice ring to it. Very smart individual to design this. I'm jealous of this persons skill in electronics.
It looks like you are using infra-red light. FYI: you need to adjust the focus when using infra-red, as this light does not focus at the same distance as visible light.
A 14 year old boy has come up with a working trap for wallaby here in NZ. Bay of Plenty I believe. He uses AI tech and a camera. It view the creature venturing near the trap..It could be a kiwi, cat, rabbit, rat or wallaby. If it recognizes the image as a wallaby it allows access to the bait, the wallaby pokes its head in and is killed by CO2 powered device. Resets and starts all over again. Genuis use of overlapping technology.
Dizzy Dunker count: 7 Chipmunks and 20 mice. past month. Slow traffic area , too. Got another mouse today. Works perfectly. Figured out a few minor tips to ensure success. talk later..thanx to Shawn
Interesting, but I still like the simplicity of the "Flip-n-Slide" 5 gal bucket trap. No batteries, power supply, microprocessor, or stepper motors, just simple gravity. We use one in the barn and another in our old farmhouse cellar, and catch multiple mice daily. The older I get, the more I appreciate simplicity. But hey, to each his own.
I LOVE ELECTRONIC MOUSE TRAPS!!!! The Victor one like this is a really good design, just too cheaply made to perform reliably. I've had two that broke. Just need better parts made with metal instead of plastic, and waterproof coated electronics.
Definitely not... the motor isn't that strong, and the controller will detect the motor stalling and turn it off to prevent any sort of crushing injuries. I took a lot of care to minimize the potential for distress to the animal.
The "drop zone" on the bottom of the trap mechanism is 310mm long and 90mm wide, which is slightly too long for a 5 gallon bucket, but fits well on an office sized trash can / wastepaper basket.
The simple traps are $50 how much will this thing set ya back? The perfect rat traps are the ones that sell. It doesn't matter how good something is if its too expensive to be used. I made cast iron spatulas from new Lodge skillets. The price that people are willing to spend is $30. They worked great for the smash burger guys because you can't bend one and they double as a bacon press. I need $45 or it isn't worth my time therefore it was a bad idea.
Just a little info. Instead of drilling holes in the ends of the frame of that trap to mount the plastic panels, you could have used t slot nuts and screws to secure it to the aluminum extrusion.
@@tpl608 well the aluminum extrusion frame already has t slots in it and believe it or not t slot juts and screws are cheaper than 3m double sided tape lol
We love mouse trap Mondays. Have you ever thought about tagging your mice or marking them somehow so you know which ones you've already caught in your barn?
I have 3 rats in the attic I put out tube traps and the walk the plank trap too. These rats too smart I even tried peanut butter, cookies, Carmel corn Cat food. They won't touch it. I even put out food with no trap and still they won't go near it! Help!!!!!!
Squirrels really don't like the enclosed space; I designed it to be very selective for rats and mice, and so far it hasn't caught anything else. My Havahart model 745 traps in the same locations with the same bait have caught chipmunks, birds, squirrels, rabbits, and skunks.
I'd been trying around with an idea like this but this guy is so much smarter than me. The only feature that I had thought of that it doesn't seem he has on this is being able to look with a camera and activate the trap from your phone from watching previous videos. It seems that tons of rats will go on it and sit there and eat the peanut butter so you can maybe catch a few at a time if you can activate it yourself rather than automatically
I've caught up to three juveniles at a time, but there's really only room for one adult rat. Having said that... the firmware has Bluetooth LE support as well as support for multiple trigger mechanisms, so it wouldn't be difficult to add the ability to trigger it via BLE.
Money talks that would be way over budget for me on S.S. Our snakes must a good job on our open fields. Did see a coyote on surveillance camera, the other night first one mostly just raccoons, which I dislike also.

Very nice job man.
It's truly a superb design. When can we expect to be able to purchase one from you?
It looked like the QR code is on E ink. Does it change on every start up, or keep track of the number of mice caught?
Wow, you've really created a highly efficient rat and mouse trap. Excellent work.
Trying to get the rats to scan that QR code is going to be a real challenge!
Very few of them have even managed to sign up for an Apple ID; it's disappointing, but if I was able to teach them not to chew on wires, I have every confidence that I can get them activated on the Verizon™ network.
They just never update, so they are stuck with the original iOS on their phones.😂

Rats aren’t very tech savy; however, mice - I’ve been told - are vital for computer usage.
I don't really think it's for rats

Hey, Shawn, I'm just curious, how far do you transport those live catch rodents before you release them? You seem to be making that trip a lot!
If you you are in The UK it redirects you to Amazon UK and a "Knock off " version of the dizzy dunker 🤨

Your pet mice live in a mouse version of Disney World. Free rides, tons of treats, and video cameras everywhere.
It's actually pretty entertaining to watch this trap!
I love how technology has reverted back to "You've Got Mail!"
I have a smart sensor on my mailbox that is set to trigger my echo device to say “you’ve got mail” whenever the Mail person drops off my mail. 😂

Very nice design. Those planetary gears act as bearings, I suspect there's very little friction which is exactly what you want.
Very cool! But does it work on Brown Norway rats?
I've had longer replies disappear twice now, so short answer: yes.
There's a video link in the pinned comment
7:00 they’re so adorable 🥺🥺
Do you think you could set it up for squirrels?
You should have used t-nuts and screws into to aluminium profile. Where you screwed the covers on the 3d print is now much weaker.
Hello there. What would be the best thing to keep the rats away from your engine compartment?
Cool trap! Thanks!
Add a built-in rechargeable battery and it will be truly portable, and rats won't chew the power cord
I use a rechargeable game camera battery pack with an armored power cord and a solar panel.
Sooo. When the light is green... the trap is clean?
Wow ! Great machine and nice knowledge about native and invasive species. ❤♠👀
Shawn, how does someone ask you for recommendations? Seeking to setup a bucket style trap , where the liquid will not freeze at 32 degrees F.
ok pack rats are adorable
does it have a flux capacitor in it?
It has flux, and it has capacitors, but no flux capacitor ;)

Yes, I agree 100%
I love the PCB referencing Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars: "It's a trap!"
I recently bought the dizzy dunker. I love it! 5 stars
3D printers really have helped home inventors bring their ideas to life.
Deer Mice carry the Hantavirus...dispatch them!
is it really a laser or just an IR emmiter and detector?
It's a VL53L0X time of flight ranging sensor, which uses an actual laser
Hey Shawn, are you familiar with a song called Rat Trap by a band called The Boomtown Rats?
The part "it's a rat trap, and you've been caught!" would be good as a notification on your phone when you get one...
Good evening how much are them rat traps
That would be great in my attic. The Wi-Fi feature would help with disposal.
Shawn, your pet rats are adorable!❤
5:42 Light is green, trap is clean.
Where or when can I buy 1 fantastic machine
If the mouse/rat manages to keep from falling, will it be cut by the return mechanism?
Definitely not... the motor isn't that strong, and the controller will detect the motor stalling and turn it off to prevent any sort of crushing injuries. I took a lot of care to minimize the potential for distress to the animal.
To help your friend out, is there any way? He can get that on a circular top for a five gallon bucket. Most people don't have a square fish tank..
The "drop zone" on the bottom of the trap mechanism is 310mm long and 90mm wide, which is slightly too long for a 5 gallon bucket, but fits well on an office sized trash can / wastepaper basket.
@@phuzzynet He could make is smaller then.

Good work Crawdaddy 👍
If it's big enough I bet you could capture squirrels too.

I can't be the only one who pictured mice and rats walking up to the trap, pulling out their phones and scanning the QR code.
"Hot Tub Time Machine" - Mice walk the plank and get dunked in the "Dizzy Dunker" filled with hot water and Dawn Dish soap.

I’m more impressed that you have a flip phone!
I have a time machine mouse trap, it crushes my thumb before I even set it😂😂
It would be cool if that electronic trap could attach little hats on the mice and rats before dropping them down.
And maybe the hats could say “I was the star of a Shawn Woods video but all I got was this lousy hat”! Fun!!🐭

Or just use a roller. Nothing is more simple and efficient as a simple rolling walkway over a 5 gallon bucket. No bootup, no batteries, just gravity.
Agreed. Efficiency is clearly not the goal of this trap, though.
Those native rats look like small possums.
