The reason the majestic had two leaves coming from the same node is because that's where it changed from immature growth to cataphyll growth. When that happens, there's pretty much always an axillary bud under the more immature leaf for a new plant to grow from 🤗 So happy you're posting again, I always enjoy your videos
Thank you for leaving this comment because I’ve heard people talk about cataphyll growth before in forums but I couldn’t picture it in my head. And my splendid and glorious recently grew like this so I thought it could possibly be what people were saying but wasn’t 100% sure if it was maturing and putting out cataphyll growth or if something else was going on lol. Good to know for sure now though ☺️
With your majestic cutting with two leaves from the same node, that's when it started pushing out leaves from a cataphyll. So the new leaf and the cataphyll for the next leaf were both in the petiolar sheaf of the previous leaf! The axillary bud of that node was never actually activated :)
I swear philos have more growth points/ nodes than we think half the time. I knocked one new leaf off my white princess and FIVE new leaves started to spring out from around that point - a sixth just appeared, actually 😂😭 3 were small leaves, 1 never really developed, 1 still seems to be thinking about what it wants to do and the 6th probably wont do anything.
Agleonemas are soo underrated. I've got 4 varieties and they still give me happiness. They're easy care and love light and regular watering, slower growing than other houseplants. I hope you get as much enjoyment from yours. Your Frydek is just re establishing, give it more time. It's a big plant and when the roots settle, and the sun is warming your room, new growth will happen. Patience and persistence will bring you joy. Looking good kiddo 🍀🌿🌻 from Jo.
The variegated Christmas cactus will need cooler temperatures followed by dark closet or boxed up for about 6 weeks. Then it should have blooms for you.
I want to thank you because i kind of let go of my love for plants in the last months since Jully 2022, but watching your content brought back the motivation to take care of my plants again and getting new plants i love and regreted selling back then ❤
Glad you're feeling better! I have the same grow light and it has made a HUGE difference. I got it last October and my plants are growing better this winter than they did all summer. I was absolutely thrilled. So, I decided to add a baby melano! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and giving me the courage to try new kinds of plants!
I got a Khroniana Super Silver last summer in Paris when I was there for a university trip... it has been growing to well and is blooming for the second time now, I have noticed that it and the notmal khroniana are winter bloomers for me!
hi fern:) i feel like your begonias flower a lot and i wanted to tell you that those flowers are edible. You can maybe bake something and add flowers to the frosting to make it all pretty or you can put them in salads or vegan yogurt and stuff like that:) i do it as often as posible and its always so fun and funny to me😂 if you are anything like me it will make you feel better🌞
glad you're feeling better and excited for all these projects!! if you're looking at getting more pings, two that I really love having and recommend are the pinguicula 'weser' (cute pink blush colour) and the pinguicula cyclosecta (purple margins). Putting pings in my ikea cabinets keeps them totally gnat-free :)
to me it looks like the one leaf on your majestic is actually a cataphyll that mutated into something that looks like a normal leaf but still is only a cataphyll (so the node underneath is just a normal node and is not used for the leaf since it's not an actual leaf). My Philodendron scandens did that and I've seen it in some other Pilodendrons online as well!
Oh, the spent node conversation. I have one growing on my bipennfolium aurea cutting. I've documented the evidence though a bit late so it is hard to see the old dead growth that the new growth grew around. I sent a video and pictures to unplantparenthood/Charmaine because in one of her video she asks for evidence. 😆 I'm sure she'll never see it. It took 6 months while the cutting grew roots like crazy.
Hi Fern! You are my inspiration! So good to hear that you are on the mend! With the Thai constellation they love lots of bright light,I have mine out on the east facing porch Al year round, (Australia) and it just doesn’t stop producing new leaves year round and each leaf is bigger than the other! Just chopped it up on the 26 December 2023,got 9 pieces out of it,so don’t give up on it! 💜🪴 Natalie
You may want to consider remounting your staghorn! When I mount my plants, I have a small handful of soil around the roots under the moss. I bet your fern could use a refresh!
ive started to think that as long as you keep the leafs/petiole on the "spent" node it'll produce something. I noticed a little like arrow shape on the base of the petiole of my philo leafs. I havent done any research, but its so cool to see!!
I’m so excited to see the Monstera Aurea grow!! Hope it grows easy for you, I’ve recently had to chop mine so that I can try to get it to grow somehow cause it had done nothing for the longest time, just like your Thai Constellation 🙊🙊
Loved the video, your videos are always so enjoyable. I love seeing your collection and just getting a look at everything. I’ve gained a lot of confidence with propagating by watching you and it has saved a few of my plants, so thank you! 🎉
Where do I start?! Verrucosum OMG 😍 , magestic double OMG 😍, and pallidoforum YES pls 😍. Where did you get your magestic from? So far I’ve only been successful in getting a verrucosum. TIA!
Live commenting incoming - Frydek are such drama queens! Mine has a giant faint every fall, and I end up having to cut it all back, but it always regrows.
I have 2! This one has done quite well in room humidity though, so I will probably be moving my other one out as well since it's outgrowing the cabinet. Actually I will probably chop that one since it's crazy haha.
That one was really interesting and fun. I really loved all the updates. I know you have said it before that other youtubers have talked about the flatmites etc, but I would really love to see all the "technics" and steps to do while threating the plants. Yes, sulfur it is, but how to you apply it and how long to you leave it on. All that practical stuff is still missing, I think. So, it would be very good to see how to you do it!
Hey fern! I have been growing my jungle for over 5 months now, but there are a few questions I have for you🌹 1: I have been growing all of my philodendrons and Alocasia fully hydroponically, should I continue, or will they rot? 2: what do you recommend as the best growing medium for crawling philodendrons? 3: what’s the best way to encourage new growth on dormant plants? Thank you so much if you see this! If not, your collection is incredible and i aspire for a jungle like it some day ❤🌱
First off: loooove the hair and so excited for a new video ✨ Also: my alocasia frydek is doing the same thing! After I repotted it it started dropping leaves and it makes me so sad because it’s so difficult to grow one from a baby to a larger plant. Im hoping though that the cold weather caused it to want to go dormant, and so I’ve cut off the foliage and am keeping it under a grow light and watering very sparingly. Im hoping she will come back in spring 🤞
I’ll be interested to see how your aglaonema settles into your place. It’s the plant that’s at the top of my houseplant wish list but I can’t decide between a silver queen or the valentine…something (need to look up correct name). It’s to go in a position which is not that well lit and I read that it is a “low light plant” then it goes on to say “need bright indirect light etc” so I’m a little unsure. I look forward to seeing your next update on your aglaonema. Thanks for sharing your plant tour, I enjoyed watching.
Love the video, as always! Omg sooo happy to see your thurstonii again. Sorry you had to chop, but she is still gorge. Wow. Just bought my first two begonias, Ferox and a variegata. My experience with the Frydek (so far) is that it’s a touchier alocasia and a reeeally big feeder. Mine perked up when I upped its fertilizer. Okay that Cuprea leaf gave me life. That has to be the shiniest lead in the history of ever. PS glad you’re feeling well again :)
Just wanted to chime in from super early in the video, but I've found that my Hoya Mathilde aborts its flowers if she's left dry for too long. I've been making sure she gets fairly frequent drinks now (she's rooty and in terracotta) and I've been rewarded with two huge balls of flowers since! Might be worth a try!
Yeah I think that's definitely the case. Me and my darn underwatering :( I am going to try to really focus on watering her more and we'll see what happens! Thank you.
@@wildfern I know you're technically not supposed to, but I give her little drinks from the last bits of my moss pole watering etc between full drenchings. She seems happy with it! Else I'd be watering her like every 3 days and ain't nobody got time for that.
My albo syngonium keeps throwing white leaves, and my pink will not grow. Syngoniums are the worst. 😆My plan was to put them together in the same pot as well, but I'm not sure they'll make it.

Great tour Fern. Can you tell me where you bought your corner black plant tier? It looks super heavy duty and sturdy, something Im looking for. All the other ones Ive seen seem to be really flimsy and that they wouldn't even hold up one potted plant. Thanks so much
I can actually see the variegation on the stem of your aurea which isn’t very common the way it is with albos! Like you can always see very defined striping on a nice albo but nice aureas it’s very faint. But yours is stripey asfff. I can’t wait to see that new leaf it’s gonna be amazing! Do you plan a retreat of the sulfur? I treated once and they all started growing. I know a Adam from Knotdude says to keep up treating. 🤷🏼♀️ I keep looking through my microscope and nobody is moving. Thoughts?
I don’t know where the idea of two growth point per node has come from. Don’t get me wrong some of mine don’t grow once chopped for a second time but some species are quite happy to keep pushing out growths. I found monstera and fast growing philos just keep sprouting 😂 I have a verrucosum that’s been cut to the base node 4/5x, every time I think it’s going to be spent it produces another growth 🤷♀️
Is verrucosum one of the parents of the majestic? Any plant I have that has verrucosum in it will sprout two leaves and branch from the same node. My splendid even branched from the internodal space once 🤷♀️
I guess your alocasias that are just in the house not cabinet can actually go dormant during the winter and then they will sprout back in spring! Totally normal.
I just got a begonia thurstonii and it came with a lot of damaged leaves. Should I prune them all off? Idk what to do. Even the couple new growths are a bit damaged. But otherwise the plant seems ok. Just a lot brown edges and some bent leaves. It’s also got some yellowing on the leaves but not entirely. I’m assuming it’s all from being shipped. But the roots seem fine and I’ve been keeping it watered and on a heat mat
hi! it comes down to personal preference. in this situation I would prune leaves that are over 50% damaged. otherwise keep them on so your plant can gain more energy to push out new growth. mine showed up damaged too, luckily they grow quickly so don't worry, it will bounce back :)
@@wildfern oh thank you so much for getting back to me. Your response has eased my anxiety about making a decision haha. I can’t wait to see mine grow to be as beautiful as yours has become 🥰. Thanks again
How can you tell a living, good peduncle from a dried out one? I recently got a hoya carnosa cutting with a peduncle but i'm not sure if it will do anything. Should i keep it? Or cut it off?
I find they have more colour and just look "juicer" when they're active. They'll progress and you'll see the buds start coming out. Old peducles can bloom again on most Hoya varieties though, so you never know when one will "activate"
The reason the majestic had two leaves coming from the same node is because that's where it changed from immature growth to cataphyll growth.
I love the plant stand at 20:30 ! What is that?
That’s really a beautiful Aglaonema
What would you recommend to be first time antherium plant
Clarinervium. . . least finicky, doesn’t require a cabinet and still has incredible wow power
@@redlady3123 thxs!
Awesome congrats on the 100k subs
I would highly recommend air layering your var. adansonii before cutting… I have major problems with rot on that one
Love agleonema! So easy, how is yours doing now?
It looks like it’s very slowly putting out a new growth point. My fingers are crossed for it.
@@wildfern ahh so good to know! I'll keep it on then😊
What do you prefere for growing verrucosum, soil or pon?
I’ve only tried growing them in soil. I’m sure they’d be happy in pon too, though :)
Where do you get your anthurium seeds? 😮
