I realize now that it’s actually Hive FLEET color scheme, whoopsies!
Better one yet.
Hive Fleet Leviathan
The Red and white one is Kraken
And the Red and Black is Behemoth
Seriously ninjon rtfm... Getting it wrong once is excusable. Twice is heresy...
Also I seriously have to question your fans for upvoting a WRONG correction...
Yes Inquisitor, that one, right there!
Actually it’s hive fleet leviathan color scheme lol
if you wanna call the one 'nid you got there hive tyrant, go right on ahead. its your model to name
"Do you kitbash?" Every release is an orc release
Dude best comment 👍
not the new ork boys hahahhahhahaa
@@warhounds You can use the new ork boyz as kitbash ingredients !
Space Orks are the ultimate junkyard warriors, they get WYSIWYG rules automatically!
As a long time Ork player, I absolutely support this comment.
Thank you for the collab opportunity, it was fantastic to see our little bug painted by you step by step!
If you or Daryl visit Poland at some point let us know, we will arrange a proper welcome :)
While you're here, Bushi orks are one of the most ridiculous but awesome things I've seen.
Oh I can’t wait for the day I can come visit! Not sure Daryl will make it past airport security though
I've had stuff in my cart from your store for a few weeks now. I'll be pulling the trigger and making a purchase today after seeing this video. I'm very pleased with the quality of the models I saw in this video. Spartan Space Soldiers, here I come!
@@SirBrasstion Thanks man :)
@@Ninjon Great, I'm sure you'll figure some way to sneak him in
Say it with me, Ninjon: “Hive FLEET LEVIATHAN” 🤣
“Classic Hive Fleet colour scheme is primarily red with bone plates,” I grumble quietly to myself in Ancient Withered Husk Of A Man
Are you a husky voiced husk of a man ?
There's is only purple and blue. All else is fiction.
Bah! Red skin and blue-black carapace is the TRUE colours of any self-respecting hive mind!
... The fact that my hive fleet isn't red and blue should clue you in as to my level of self-respect...
2nd ed paint is classic
How proud Jon was of that "The bugs are right here" joke warms my heart.
bro that damn smile... lol
Bug jokes never land with me when it comes to Tyranids... because they aren't bugs.
@@lazerhosen cool
@@drbeandog4209 yes, it is cool that Tyranids are intentionally designed to look like mutated bio-punk dinosaurs with endoskeletons and armored skin. Thanks for pointing that out!
@@lazerhosen you're welcome, i'm surprised you needed me to point that out. you already seem like an expert.
"I bet they got choppers triangulating our position right now"
This made my day
Love the little skits he does lol
I just dipped my toes in the alternate modelverse - I picked up some "truescale" MKIII bodies to make my IW army and have started finding 3rd party bits to try and make my army more my own - I'm not a big tournament player but you do see the facebook chatter of "you could never play that at a warhammer store or tournament" but at this point, I just wanted bigger Iron Warriors.
Honestly that policy is so dumb and I see it as hurting Games Workshop more than helping them. It makes the community really fractured and hostile at times as well. GW is the closest thing to a household name wargaming has, they don't need to be so threatened by people using different minis they have the means to update their 30 year old models but choose not to. This is excluding blatant theft of IP like copying moulds, etc.
@@garrettvelkjar3136 gw also doesn’t even enforce it. Best Overall at NOLA had a shit ton of printed shields and lightning claws in his raven Guard and never once got called up
Gw has taken in alot of corporate guys from other companies and are starting to over react to 3d printing hence their move towards bullshit streaming services and shit tier mobile games the only issue is all these steps fractures and seriously pisses off their base community only made worse by the people trying to run political bullshit through gws own social media
@@user-wg9kb3kd4y You nailed it, they even attempted to boot someone for wearing a political path at a recent event. ( called them Nazi's ) So now they and their legion of fanboys are going to be policing someone's clothing choice's. If someone want's to wear a facist patch , leave them alone , but when GW want to push their political views, that's all ok and peachy keen.
@@parabot2 the issue is more what those kinds of symbols is associated with. And sometimes you do have to set limits to what to wear, especially if you want to grow a business. It is called common sense to not wear nazi apparel in the public space, at least from the place in the world I am from
I'll use absolutely any model I get my hands on. There's always conversion and kitbashing potential. Also, I'm finally getting to grips with thinning paints and NOT overloading the belly! Took a while, but glazing FINALLY is beginning to make sense.
14:40 Watched the basing montage twice just because of that 80ies synth montage sound track you've chosen. Great video from start to finish!
There needs to be more mini montages
If the montage was shorter we wouldn't have had the sweet guitar solo!
Say what you will about Daryl, his first reaction to an impending GW attack is to fortify the position, a true son of Dorn.
Plus he probably can't read, like his primarch.
I really appreciate how much you focus on the process and the amount of real time footage you show. I think the thing I’ve learned the most from this channel is that good paint jobs just take time. I know it’s more editing work but I’d find it really insightful to know how long certain parts of a model took after a video during the close ups.
Couldn’t have put that better - kudos
I know nothing about miniature painting nor about the games. But as an artist I find it amazing that people have such steady hands. How can that be? This guy really focuses on the painting process.
lol the title to this video. Cast out those fishing lines!
you forgot the 80´s start in the montage were you prepare youself for what you are gonna do (karate kid bandana, filling commando vest etc)
and yeah real nice painting *thumbs up*
He got the music right though, to be sure.
@@kevinw3671 oh yeah he really did
"Miss Gunnarson has cataracts, but I gave her the sniper rifle anyway." I spit my coffee on that one lol
I laughed out loud for a bit with this one
don't underestimate Miss Gunnarson, the graveyards are littered with the bones of such fools
Lovely Work NinJon! Love the color and love seeing the whole process
Got to say, I'm relatively new to your channel but this video is really excellent! Genuinely entertaining and really informative. I learned a lot, and I've been painting (on and off) for a long time. Thanks :)
Glad to have you here Phil!
In case you were unaware, your videos are some of the best parts of my Fridays. Keep being you.
And my Tuesday morning :)
You painting tutorials are so good. I came to this video knowing already what you were going to say about 3D printing, but seeing your painting process is so priceless. Thanka John
Ninjon,
Thank you for always taking the time to walk through your painting styles step by step and show what you are doing. I just played my first game last night and am excited to keep painting more and more, You are always one of the first channels I come to, to ensure my technique is good and to help ready myself for the painting journey. I really appreciate your content and commitment to the hobby.
John, your work continues to amaze me. The way you look at a project from start to finish really brings a science to the hobby. I always look forward to watching your content!
That Tyranid looks so good! You keep growing as an artist and its so cool to see! Keep it up and see you in the next one
Thank you for all the lessons. I am just learning about all this, and already got my paints, brushes, and and airbrush set. I am still waiting for my model, but I also bought a mini to paint for my wife. Thanks again.
You are such a good source of info in the community. Thank you Jon!
Awesome video as always. I've been painting a long time, always terrified of line painting, heavy metal method, thank you for explaining it so EASY. Ninjon painting Dojo for Life!
I just painted my broodlord lastnight im hella proud of it i went with like a yellow and black spotted, with a red wash for shadows i love it
Awesome video as always, that model would make a great genestealer I think! Was great to see your take on hive fleet leviathen
love seeing that Conquest! been slaying the gray on my W'adrhun army with great enthusiasm.
I was in a pretty severe car accident and it really messed up my dominant arm (shoulder to hand) After all the hemming, hawing and boohooing, I got my butt into physical therapy for my left shoulder so I can paint again without too much pain. I could get a couple layers of a base coat before I couldn’t feel my hand. It’s slowly getting a little less painful, a little longer paint sessions and PT is kicking my ass, but I’m not sure I would have gotten back into painting without some of your motivational videos.
My large army of unpainted marines is becoming a small army of painted marines. And that’s thanks to you man. I appreciate you.
Struggling through pain to get the job done... A true marine!
I'm always super happy to see one of your video. You're my favorite youtube miniature painter.
It would be cool to see some Warmachine/Hordes be painted. Legion of Everblight Archangel or Zuriel might be of your taste :), but anything would be nice :)
This is one of my favorite videos so far. Thanks Ninjon.
I like the subtle Conquest product placement :) Great video Jon! Also if anyone is reading this and is on the fence about Ninjon merch, I scored a hoodie this week and it's pretty much the best hoodie i've ever owned.
Yaaaaaaaay!
I came to scoff at the clickbait title and thumbnail and stayed for the awesome painting tutorial, thanks dude.
Hey, it did it’s job! Thanks for sticking around!
That Samurai Ork in the intro looks so cool... need to find out more about that one! Awesome video as always 👍
Seriously one of the best RUclipsr channels for the hobby out there! Keep making awesome videos, Jon! Thoroughly enjoy every one. I learn a hell of a lot, too!
Great tutorial, great results, great 80's montage music, and great humour. Your content is....great! 😁Take care 👍
GW: doesn't release any new models for a faction for years
Customers: 3D print their own
GW: 😡😡😡✋
Eldar. Are their even prints for those guys or has time forgotten them?
@@Rabbit-the-One who?
@@Rabbit-the-One What is wrong with the Aeldari models as they are. Most models stand up very well with the modern versions of other armies. The have had some new models in the shape of the Wraithguard and the Wraith Knight (Even though the knight is priced out of the game for standard 40k). Also, they did a new release on the Fire Prism with the elegant long barrelled weapon now. Finally, they have those sleek flyers that out manoeuvre pretty much anything else on the table. All of these are newer products that came out well after the big release in 2007.
That montage music took me straight back to watching Flight of the Navigator as a kid. Thank you
Dude, the music for the painting parts was awesome. Do that more lol. Also, I love this kind of video. Just painting a mini with some commentary, I love it. Keep it up man! Almost to 100,000 subs!
I love your content man, I suck at all things art but you genuinely make me want to get better. Thank you for everything!
You make great content, Ninjon. Funny, engaging and informative. I always learn something watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
I love the variety we have now, my Eldar are diverse and look different from everyone else thanks to 3d printing and alternate mini manufactures. Loved the video man cant wait for the next one
FYI Hasslefree Minis has a really cool rogue Eldar warlock/pysker named Iona Starkiller if you want to add a unique character to your Craftworld army.
I wish you'd painted an OG genestealer at the same time just for the sake of comparison.
I've always enjoyed the way you keep, and embrace your mistakes(or inefficiencies, as they sometimes turn out to be) in your videos. When you were using that purple, it reminded me of the first time I tried to paint an imperial fist. I just tried to take the GW imperial fist yellow and just brush it over black primer.
He turned out pretty grainy 😅
Loved the video - great job and beautiful work on that model!
Great model, great paintjob, loved the gloss varnish on the base, made it really pop without distracting attention from the model!
id love a Daryl shorts channel so much
'Poison Purple' by Coat d'arms is the same as Liche Purple btw. They are the company that made those old GW paints.
Damn another paint set I need to get my hands on
There’s no way in hell I wouldn’t watch your video to the end!!!! You always crack me up and I can’t wait to see your bloopers and the conclusion with your alter ego. Awesome job John, thank you so much!!!
Best mini painting vids, hands down. Always makes me laugh on top of being very informative.
Really enjoy your humor and style. Keep it up Ninjon!
Love these ....Time to add them to my printing backlog. Right after the carnifex and dimachareon proxies finish aha
Awesome topic and great results! Glad you can now do this full time!
-John
Those Nid PRoxies look amazing. I might have to print them out for my buddy's army. He still has the classic metal ones from the
early 90s. I see a birthday gift in his future.
one of the best videos yet man! and amazing music :) love the synth
A very cool model and an excellent paintjob! Great video, Jon! Also, poor Mrs. Gunderson hahaha!
Fantastic montage with excellent music! More please!
Man, as always I instantly exist full screen to like the video after watching the first 40 seconds of your video. Bonkers. Keep on truckin' brother.
Years ago I ended up with a closing store's bits bin. 3D printing compatible pieces is finally letting me put them to use. Always a fan of maximizing a GW box.
Oh I already ended up getting some models from a third party company, mostly because GW stopped producing the type of guardsmen that I want to use. And I sure as hell can't afford continue to buy them off ebay. For anyone curious it's valhallans I am collecting. And now I can sprinkle in some female troops into my army so that is a bonus
Nice move , Ebay pricing is off the charts crazy . I used to pick up unwanted lots of Tau , Spave wolves etc and built nice armies for 1/4 of the price they sold new . These days no go, the price is off the charts . New pricing is bordering on insane , so i have moved to all 3d models. Some brilliant stuff to be had for way cheaper and when people see it painted it converts them very quickly, then you mention the price and they are totally sold on 3d.
@@parabot2 been thinking of a 3d printer, but my issue is having storage for it. Maybe one day, only thing I spend money on ebay nowadays is once in a while rare and cheapish models. Usually older ones that isn't as popular, but dam looking at something like a grail knight and you do wonder why half a model is so dam expensive
Excellent Video as always. Love the tutorial part especially.
So glad to hear you mention Marco Frisoni, one of my favorite RUclipsrs and painters who deserves so much love! Great video as always Ninjon, love seeing your channel grow and your skills level up with every upload.
Finally I see them lovely bugs on this channel! Found this hugely helpful and I’m looking forward to more! 😍
Great video and nice to see alternative minis. I don't have a 3D printer but if I did I would be getting those prints!
The previous time stamp was an awesome name for a band :-) great work Jon.
the bloopers are funny man.. you make great vids.
I will have to star checking the names for your time stamps.
Nice video!
I will typically do a base coat, wash then a damp or dry brush or sometimes both then follow with edge highlighting and gets the same look but much faster. Of course on the signature models I will spend more time on the highlighting and even sometimes do wet mix fades for super smooth transitions.. Like you said there are so many ways to get the the same finish line.
Awesome video as always.
I think it looks more like a Zerg from starcraft than a Tyranid... Fine addition to my collection! 😍
VGC Hexed Lichen is an almost identical alternative to the old Liche Purple, with amazing coverage to boot. It's my favourite purple by a long shit.
I love molotow paint refill through my airbrush. They're the same formule as their spray can so they're weather proof and super resistant.
That model looks awesome dude, great work. Alternative models are great as it gives you a chance to customise your army and have it stand out from everyone else's.
This is the first video of yours that I've seen,
Your speaking style, your demeanor and your humor are all 20/20 🤘 thanks for a super great video 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🔥
I play a lot of miniatures agnostic games. Rangers of Shadow Deep, Zone Raiders, Stargrave, and Killwager all encourage you to bring a unique skirmish team of your own design, even though many offer their own miniature lines
Love the sound coming with this video.Little retro vibes
not sure about others, but I'm mostly here for the awesome paint jobs, and to listen to how much you love painting. The depth of your knowledge is really creating a good vibe here.
So, at least from my end, no needto worry I might skip anything. Keep going ^^
I'm a huge fan of Puppetwar's Bugs already, but this was very helpful as a guide to paint them! I have about 20 of them printed and primed up, that have just been intimidating me (I only started painting in Jan)
I think my favorite part of this video was the caption during the montage
I’m super into the late 80’s prom music that came in half way through the video lol
Not only options in minis, also in games ;)
Always found converted armies or minis could be a real focal point of an event.
Thanks for keeping up this content.
Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Violet is a good match with amazing coverage. I absolutely love the extra opaque line.
Great video, love the model! I have always been a big believer in using other models and getting creative. Creativity is a huge part of the hobby for me and if I just stuck to what GW recommends I would lose my damn mind!
I did my 3rd ed Sisters of Battle with liche purple robes. The closest equivalent out there is Vallejo Game Colour hexed lichen. It covers pretty well.
I have used 3d prints to replace some game pieces from board games as well. It really is nice to have suck a variety of choices at your finger tips. Nice paint work as always.
Thanks for the Puppetswar link!
That opening skit was just amazing.
I love the explosion of 3D printed options for hobbyist to choose from now.
The best part is It's only going to get better . We have better resins , killer pricing and masses of very talented artist's are just coming onboard . 3D printers are getting cheaper and better, sofware is coming that even total noobs can pump out entire armies is a few days.
If it's a small game, indie, etc. then I'll buy the official models. In historical land there's just tons of options for almost everything so buy what you want. For big players like GW I have no issues looking for alternatives (that aren't just reprints/recasts/etc.)
Woah really looking forward to see your take on belakor in future
Inspiring video as always! I don't know if you take video suggestions at all. But, personally I would love a video where you talk about how you learned a new skill to a high degree (mini painting) and how you felt about that process.
omg that 80's themed music....the nostalgia!
Daryl and Alex Jones combined, is my spirit animal.
the bit just before the basing montage reminded me of Josh Wisemann's "B ROOOLL" bits
I just started laughing with the 1980's movie theme music behind the base montage! Thanks for the chuckle. I really like what this company did with space bug sculpts.
Glad puppetswar is a patreon now. The models are superb. Great painting as always
I'm excited to see a Conquest box! I just bought the starter set myself!
Great video as always. I'm loving one page rules undead mummies
Love it! Puppets wars makes such great art - we are so happy to work with them. They do great work. You definetly want to check them out.
I collect orks and there are so good 3rd party sculpts that you almost have to have em. I primarly enjoy the painting part of the hobby and do casual games with friends so no need to miss out this part of the hobby
