There is something about Nids that makes players and sculptors so passionate. Of all the stls I've seen, it's clear that the nids have the most time, effort, and love put into them. They make so many official sculpts look like a joke!
i think its because a lot of the tyranid sculpts are so old, and with how advanced gws models are getting the tyranids see the least number of resculpts and new models.
i print bases when I am too impatient to wait for amazon or eBay to send me a 100-pack of bases. Im working on a WHFB Empire army so I go through 100 bases like nobody's business. Not to mention the prices on some larger bases is a tad crazy sometimes. I've seen 5-6 dollars for 100x50mm square bases when I could print double that amount for the exact cost in resin. Scenic bases are also nice and give me a nice pallet cleanser when painting models
if you want something sturdier than resin but still perfectly usable and cheaper than official bases; you can order wooden shapes cut to the sizes you need too, i know a fair few ppl who do this esp for whfb/rank and file games ^^
also after watching the vid i'll comment on my experience 3d printing too; ive got a really cheap resin printer (anycubic photon mono) and i've always had thin, flat models warp for myself, might be my supports but ive never had any luck with printing pases in resin, found it more reliable to print them using fdm when I still had a fdm printer ^^
i print bases as well all the time ive got 2 fdm i use for terrain and bases can print 30 x 32mm bases 50 x 25mm 40x28mm and about 16x50mm base for only about $5 of filament at most took me a day to print 20 new 50mm bases for my guards heavy wep teams
For anyone wondering, I think the price is fine for ALL the attachments, weapons and wings you get with the files. Also, you can print them as much as you want 😉 Big news: he drops horms and terms next week!
Butov makes amazing sculpts, I immediately fell in love with his tyrand and Swarmlord. BTW I do print my bases, but only FDM prints for the basic, undecorated ones. There are so many amazing things to use for basing, so fully decorated bases can be more of an annoyance than a benefit
Dude thank you for your comment I was scouring this dude video replaying it trying to to find when he name drops the person who makes the files beating around the bush and everything
Iunno about it being more than GW. You now own the stls so you can print those models out anytime you want. The more you print, the more the cost actually goes down. Great video as always man! Thank you for being so cool and chill!
Simple rule of thumb for myself but if the STL file is within 10$ of the retailer model I just buy the model. If the STL file alone is going for the price of a physical model I feel almost obligated to print several just to get my money's worth. Let alone time, effort and headache.
I've been watching less youtube lately and haven't seen your videos in a while, but I gotta say, you've gone all out on the proper "youtuber" setup and it looks great! The lit up background, the orbiting camera, and the camera quality are all unreal. Great video too! Really nice to check out some of the more expensive STLs and how modelers are really upping their game.
I design and print my own bases. I like the cause I can print completed bases which saves me times. I also play Aeldari (Drukhari Harliquins with a splash of craftworld Eldar) and custom bases allow me to print magnet slots right into the base. The heavier bases also prevent models from tipping over and breaking all the fiddly bits. My Drukhari are on bases covered in skulls, I couldn't imagine placing them all by hand. I am currently in the process of making flying stand with 3d printed adaptors to make the models hold on with magnets.
Okay so roughly 115 something bucks for three models of that size, honestly I would have to say that's actually very well worth it. $11 worth of resin when a bottle can cost you anywhere from 25 upwards to $100 again I would say very worth it. And if you put magnets in the heads and on the limbs for the two smaller ones you can interchange parts on them depending on who you're going to be fighting against or putting them on display
Love your vids. I'm researching for my foray into the world of 3D printing and i saw these files a couple of days back. The prints are insane! I was obliged to sell all my FW 'Nids last year, so these are more than fantastic replacements. Look forward to your next vid mate.

Regarding the base printing question; I print my bases in my FDM printer, at 0.08mm layer height. It gives me nice quality bases that cost absolutely nothing. Plus, it allows me to customize them if I want to add slots for different magnets (I have an option for three 2x1mm magnets, one for a single 9mm or 12mm, etc). Also, amazing result on those not-so-minis! I really want to print some big models, once I set my mind on a specific faction to print a bigger army.
When you showed the different heads at 1:47, I got the sudden urge to make a plaque for them, scale them up, print them, and mount them on my wall like a hunting trophy
Got a printer last year. And recently began printing bases for my stuff. As basing is by far the most tedious process for me being able to just print an already dynamic base and just slap the model on is a breath of fresh air.
Name it “Tiny Tim”. And fyi, I just got my first resin printer a week ago and it was your vids that gave me the confidence to tip my toe in the new hobby, and I’m loving it. So, thanks man.

Looking at you 28mm range, with 2 different "sizes") Anyway, a good start would be Txarli Factory, look at how he supports and make the bases, a lot of pp places some weird supports on bases that just deforms the poor things, but so far, Txarli never went wrong with me, and copying his support style for other bases (and when i resize for other models) never failed me.

I use my FDM Printer for bases. This saves me time so I dont need to build everything from scratch and they are rough enough that I still want to dump basing material on them.

Sam what settings do your printers have because i have a mars 3 pro and it takes about 15 hours to print votann whereas on your video it only took about 3 in your video?
I bought the Tyranid Warrior STL files from this guy last year. It stung at first, but I can have as many Tyranid Warriors as I want now rather than only 3 from GW. They look amazing.
There are a lot of cool files for bases, if you're lazy like me and just want to paint the base and throw some plants or texture on there, they're nice.
I print bases because I mostly print One page rules models and they include awesome themed bases that turn out great. That said, another channel had me considering using clear bases.
I tend to fill up my build plate with bases whenever there is space left. I still buy bases when I order other hobby supplies tho. I love the ability to scale any 3D print, but in this case I have no idea why you bash on the GW nids. Their organic nature means more detail isn’t necessarily better and the Hierodule is the perfect size to include in a pick up game that doesn’t use knights or titans, imo. The scythed Hierodule was the first large FW model I painted, it was for my best gaming buddy‘s army, and it is my absolute favourite 40k mini. So I may be biased 😂 The printed version looks a lot less dynamic, somewhat crouched, compact and overweight - and the extra details makes it nothing but busy, imo. Overall, even tho the prices for the files may be justified when looking at the work that went into them, I‘d probably go for the GW carnifex - mostly for the convenience of a plastic kit. That stl is stellar, tho! Final edit: that Hierodule paintjob is great! Thank you for sharing!
Question on the scale, doesn't it make the line of sight rules harder? Because technically it would be easier to see/harder to hide behind things. Or are there rulings for kitbashed/custom models to not abuse creative choices for the gameplay?

To the topic of printing bases, there are arguments for yes and for no. I used to hate printing bases, because I was pretty bad at leveling my print bed and general set up. But now I do it quite often, especially for numerable units and for weird base proportions. The argument against is that official bases look professional, legitimate, are of good quality and cost. Plus, there are many manufacturers to chose from. Printed bases can be made quickly on a whim (currently making a batch for a friend), are evn cheaper than the official ones, can be shaped and scaled however you want, and there are many STLs for decorative bases out there. It’s all matter or choice
I have the hive tyrant and hyrodule files and the quality even on my elegoo mars 2 pro is immense. Got them both on a sale and don't regret it in the slightest
you can print bases directly onto the baseplate. gotta play a bit with the exposure. you generally want a decently long exposure, and large layers. if you do you can get one load of bases done in around 15 minutes. Bases are not very different to the rafts most supported minis are attached to. are they cheaper than plastic? maybe? can I just go downstairs and crank out like 100 of them in like three hours? yes.
I only print bases if I need a lot of them and or I found something that looks good, but even than I'll only print them if I've got space while printing something else.
I print all my bases on my fdm printer in black filament. Just a basic blank base. At with a .6 nozzle at .2 layer height it comes out to one 32mm scale base in about 3.5 minutes. So you can do a full bed of them in a handful of hours basically when ever I have some down time I’m printing bases so I have a decent stock.
I have his tyrant and warrior files, absolutely worth it for models that come with just south of enough parts to make a full extra model like the hive tyrant and tyranid warriors. Going all printed, they're the best bugs on the market. He's expensive but the work is evident in the files.
Compared to GW who asks for 100-500$ per model, paying that same amount for a STL that lets you print that same model, as many times as you want for a fraction, is a pretty fair price imo.
Amazing! I've had my eyes on these STLs for so long... I just can't bring myself to pick them up. Hopefully the sale will be big enough to reach the tipping point.
As for why I print bases? Basing is not what I really want to do. I found some really good city ruins in most sizes needed for my SM army. I print bits, bases, and effects to use with my GW models. Hell, I only use GW models because it's easier to make them into female SM that aren't over-sexualized.

Parasite of Mortrex is peak Tyranid design for me. Organic and deadly, bestial but hyper-advanced. Neat 😎
Where can i go to get these stl file
This is the model that made me want to get into 3d printing
What site do you buy these STLs from?
Niceee, another vid from the legend. Will watch when I get some time free
I print blank bases on my FDM printer. I like making mini dioramas on each base so I almost never use the bases that come with the models.
As for why I print bases? Basing is not what I really want to do. I found some really good city ruins in most sizes needed for my SM army. I print bits, bases, and effects to use with my GW models. Hell, I only use GW models because it's easier to make them into female SM that aren't over-sexualized.
Thats incrédible ! Such amazing models
Some of those arts look big, do you ever drill and pin?
I have the creator's most of the space bug range, totally worth the money
Been watching your channel for about a week now, your thunderhawk vid got me hooked as I was wanting to get into printing for displays and like you, the hawk was a childhood wish that was just way out of reach, but these nids are insane! Defo gonna get on that patreon soon for some advice! Keep up the good work
What's that ultralisk stl called? It looks amazing
The Flying Hive Tyrant sculpt by the same creator looks insaneeeee
@@SerikonIsHere he’s on cults3d. Typically creator names aren’t mentioned so GW won’t Exterminatus them. Use whatever search terms you would normally use to find nids and keep you eyes peeled for the sculpt.
I suggest joining this channel’s Patreon if you’re having trouble finding the models mentioned in any of the videos. The people there will point you in the right direction
A name for your carnifex? How about Gerald?
I love it
Wow! Amazing job! Continue with Tyranids)
I won’t be surprised if they make it Ultramarines vs Tyranids #becausespacemarine2
I'm not sure if it's mentioned in the vid but that guy you but the stls from does offer Sales granted their on holiday or something but that guy has amazing modles
Funny I just got this video on my feed and today is April 22nd! Unfortunately no discount lol. FYI: still worth the regular price
Where can I find these files? I'd like to try them out and paint them as well as I can.
