      Is it really that much cheaper, though? Here in Poland printing companies charge similar money for prints at this scale to the prices of high-end plastic wargaming models and of course buying a 3D printer yourself just throws the entire idea of "cheaper" out of the window.

    • @demon1103
      @demon1103 Год назад +1

      @Robert Chmielecki I'd definitely say it's cheaper...but that's because I have hobby ADD and 10+ armies. However, a good example is my Chaos Knights in starting. To get the models for my army from GW would cost at least $800. Printer/set up cost me around $500, files and resin under $200, so even that 1 army I come
      out ahead.
      So is it cheaper? Depends on how much and what you plan to print. For someone like me...definitely.

    The print lines on the front of the Impulsor aren't to do with suction, that's caused by the angle of the face and the resolution of your screen.
    There's no real easy way to fix this without similar printing artefacts on other flat faces. Often you'll either need to rotate parts to a specific angle based on the layer height and pixel width; or print at a layer height that matches the width.
    Open Paint, zoom in real close and draw a line not quite horizontal, you'll see the same effect as on the Impulsor.

    • @battlebrothersam

    Yeah the best way to get lines is to have any part of a flat model almost parallel to the build plate. Upside there is a easy fix I use a Proxxon rotary tool (of course any will work but Proxxon is my favorite) and a green rubber abrasive polishing bit. The bits are super cheap and not overly aggressive on resin allowing you to polish down those lines in a matter of minutes and you can go around details much easier than sandpaper.

  • @guardsmen2945
    @guardsmen2945 Год назад +2

    I thought about fdm printing for terrain but since I'm working in 15mm scale I've found resin to be the best choice and still reasonably affordable. I can print 2x 10 man rifle squads scaled down to 15mm and a semi detached single story medieval house for about $6-8. Of the 5 bottles of resin I bought at around $50 I'm only 1/4 through the second one and have already printed 5x light tanks, 6x 10 man infantry squads, 8x vans/trucks as transports and a command squad with a extra Lt costing a total of ~$15

    • @battlebrothersam

    Thank you for that shot at 8:10. I got into 40k (the video games) recently and was curios just how much larger the models got. I have to say I'm in love with the simplicity of the 3e marines. I'd like to get started painting minis and having them on display, but I'm not a fan of the big, bulky and busy designs they have going on, much prefer the simpler one, I imagine it's easier to tell at a glance what they are and what they are equipped with.

    great video, but i personally disagree with the premise of being the "ultimate starter set". its all entirely subjective, for example if you loved tyranids and tau you would print that instead and that would be the ultimate set. additionally, it doesnt come with the rulebook, which i would probably find really helpful to someone getting into the hobby as it has all the rules in one place and a lot of flavour text along with it which is amazing for setting the scene for a universe that in a beginners case they probably wouldnt have had a lot of experience with.

Do you happen to know a good place that has models that would print up perfectly to be replacements for Battle Brothers or Prime Brothers models?
    I actually happen to have a bunch of spare bits from my Intercessors box from GW and am hoping to find something that might be compatible with the remaining 20 bolt rifle bits that I have... since I decided to make a 10-man squad of assault bolt rifles.

    As a guy who printed eve Warlord Titan..
    1 - Pre-supported models in 90% are not tested by creators and that leads us to failed prints. (As example - i have anycubic mono 6k and plate soaking power so high that not well supported minies are ripping of from supports during print)
    2 - 90% of ppl are lazy and dont wanna teach how to put their own supports and that leads us to "fake" illusions that 3d printing is so eazy but when they coming into it, they getting disappointed.
    3 - A lot of STLs are shit. Totally. Coz not being tested by creators.
    4 - And use hot water for easiest way to take minies from support after print. It will save your minies from cracking.

    • @battlebrothersam
      @battlebrothersam  Год назад

      Count me in that 90% then lol I can support but frankly I don't have time to if I'm having to support 5 different torsos and legs and backpacks and heads, if the presupports are rubbish then the word gets out in the community and they get branded with bad supports.
      Also I used hot water for all these and still some cracking but that's the thinness of the ankles mixed with support density in that area.

    I have watched all your videos and enjoyed every one of them, as a suggestion you should make a video using the "best" units you have just for the fun of it
