@@CreamAle The only thing worse is the critic that never tried.
As for me, building and painting is just a way to spend a relaxing hour or two with just me and my imagination. The only glory comes in showing my models to the couple of friends that appreciate the hobby.
So to folks interested in competition, I say go for it.

@@bopaintsminis Agreed; I won't stop people from entering competitions if they wish, I just know that my skills are not near what it takes to get anywhere doing it at this time. Like you, building and painting is Zen time for me above all.

@@bopaintsminis I've had friends put things off for years with the fear of failing.
One is a known insta artist, the other makes our album art, and one is also chasing her music career now.. all they needed was a push.

To answer your question, my wife and I sat down and did a thorough look at our finances to determine what amount I’d have to make for us to be able to pay the bills and have enough money for that necessities. From there we got a dollar amount, then I added 25% on top of that as my goal, knowing that things could dip back down in the YT world and we’d still be ok. Once I hit that dollar amount a few months in a row I knew it was real and started planning for the full time transition :)

I feel that sentiment in regards to competitive painting. About a few weeks ago, I went to a 1 hour speedpainting competition at my local store. There was a solid 21+ people turn out, all had been painting longer than me it seemed. One of the competitors was even one of the major community members for Renegade. I was super nervous and really didn't didn't expect anything of it. At the end it turned out I had won. I got so much positive feedback and it was extremely validating to know that all the models I've been painting since I got into the hobby since a few years ago have really resulting in better painting ability and growth. Your model looked sick and the Vargheist conversion was a great choice!

For Golden Demon what I think would be awesome is if all contestants were given the exact same model and then had 4 hours to paint it without an airbrush. THAT would prove true painting skill. Not kit bashing, not partnership/group painting, just pure skill of a single painter. Good job on the entry, looked good but, BUT the gnobblers really looked like they had personality. I saw them and immediately my DnD brain developed an encounter.
