Hear me out: Do this again with Necrons, but paint in REVERSE on the outside of the resin block to make it look like some kind of assembly/portal line.

Yea it turns out fkn badass when done, it looks so cool! People have been doing that for over a decade now and they do some insane sht using that effect it creates when u do it since your looking thru the thick resin to a picture on the back side.
Awesome idea, I hope they do it. Although it's worth noting they probably wouldn't need to do anything with resin, just have the mirror trick
I wonder if you could orient the mirrors so that it looks like the tunnel descends into the floor. Awesome.

the effect is really cool an angled entrance on the top of a pyramid making it look like it goes underground would be cool too

That is a very neat terrain piece. Only note I'd have, and I don't even know if this is possible, but feel like the infinite effect would've been better if it was angled slightly downward, so that the hall of specimens extended at a slope downward into the planet, since right now it makes the hallway look longer than the hill itself.
I like the non-euclidean space. Makes it look like Tzeentch got to them and decided to fuck with reality

I believe if you use the spray can from far enough away the propellant should evaporate before hitting the styrofoam, just a tip in case you don’t want to use the flour, salt, and pva mix.

Currently working on a forest terrain for my warhamme r40k games, and this got me pumped to finish it and start a snow/ice one!

Another possibility instead of a clear varnish or polishing the resin to increase visibility would be a layer of clear packing tape. I don't have any specific experience with using it on a resin surface but I know clear tape will usually give clear vision if applied to frosted glass- I believe that the adhesive fills in the textured surface and the clear tape gives a smooth viewing surface.
I really feel like Liquitex gloss medium would've been an easier way to achieve the icicles - could be used on the inside too
If anyone watches tabletop time this would fit in great with hive fleet jotunn, a hive fleet trapped in ice emerging into a world

So I love the look of old practice sci-fi and fantasy VFX and your intro got me thinking when doing this sort of terrain piece what about making the back either totally flat or a parabolic curve, and then having a mat painting to marry up to that shape? You could have used that effect to make it look like this rocky outcropping was actually was a part of an actual mountain, or you could use it make a fortification look like there is an actual city being guarded, or behind your oasis there could be an endless desert.

I doubt you are going to see this, but a lot of people who use that use Vaseline to keep it from sticking to the surfaces as well as fingers or tools they used to work with it. Don't know if you guys have it where you're at but as an option you can use that as well instead of water.

Ok, this is REALLY cool and would make a great terrain piece for a game based on it's size!
For some reason, say a space marine gets encased in water and flash frozen. Would they survive? With their life support systems and air tight seals in their armor, would they just be super stuck but alive?
Might have to try this myself with some sleeping necrons instead

Instead of an icy vault do a glowy green forcefield vault, a tesseract vault, Trazyn the infinite stood outside looking down into his infinite collection hall.
Add it to the list of dioramas I want to do but probably will never get around to!

Am i the only one that would set up 5 or 6 space marines in a row to see it become a whole legion within the mirror, kinda making a city parade with hundreds of them? Just me. (I would also do this with my custom marines)
Fantastic Build.
I wonder if you moved the mirror from behind and in front the blocks of resin, and instead lined them up so the edge of the mirror was on the front side / between of the faces (in the same orientation, so you'd have to cut the mirror smaller) but if you had both mirrors sandwich between the blocks of resin instead of in front and behind then i think you could get rid of that Gap between the blocks of ice in the reflections.
Im curious about the sealant you made for the foam. I get the glue, and i expect the flower is either a binder or to give body, but why salt?
This would look so good for a magic /demonic effect due to it being longer on in inside!

If you get the blue and yellow kneadite in tubes instead of the green stuff strips, they are not at all dried out.
Hmm, I dunno how it is up close, but the minis are hard to see. They could be anything.
