Um what's your code again for tacticus
@@EpicDoggo-q7v Squidmar
The like button lit up when you said like button.
Code didn't work for me
Hey man, it's likely too late
@@joeroberts6704
hmm. now, to really test the system you should've done it anonymously. Because, as a painter with a fiverr account, what really happens is 5 chats a day that come to nothing and maybe 1 or 2 jobs a month.
Yeah that's something to take into consideration, this was more to test what the average salary would be and how much work it is :)
My thoughts exactly
@alexbezeredi6044 I think there is also bit difference between making fiverr your job and making painting your job. From what I know is better to do like whole armies (same minies, same colour scheme, you can streamline it a bit) or like really big a precious models
EonsOfBattle did a similar test but anonymous and it didn't work either. I'm glad they didn't do it anonymous because my original take away was that if they had done it not anonymously it would have worked. Now I know it probably wouldn't have.
@alexbezeredi6044if they would do this for salary they wouldnt need big setup nor camera and vid what ever... pleaseee
I am blown away by the quality of every miniature with the amount of time spent!!
How rude. Why would you commission someone, let alone a famous RUclipsr, to paint your mini if you haven’t even bought it yet!? Very inconsiderate but unfortunately not surprising.
It is hell, not only does the client not know how much time certain things require, dispite how skilled you are, they don't really know what they want half of the time. Most believe that since it is a "hobby" you shouldn't get payed as a normal job. It became better lately.
I like the ads being on the side, so I can still watch the painting while the sponsorship is being done.
It’s also an ingenious way to keep you from skipping, because you would be missing out on some of what you came for
it's actually crazy to me just how beautiful a paint job you're able to get in 1.5-4hrs. For me to get close to the same would take 20-40 (which is a great reason for me to not do commissions!)
I am the same! I spent about 3 Months working on my OG Logan Grimnar ... As, I decided to PAINT his Shoulderpad by hand... I should have just ordered the right Waterslide Transfers... LOL!
It is a bit "Off Line" and askew... But the overall result came out well! Very happy with it! Tabletop ready for sure!!!
I know this feeling well. Had some friends ask me to do some commission work for them after looking at some of my best pieces. What they don't realise is for a result like that, it can take me weeks to complete. Not sure they're willing to pay me a wage to have their Magnus the Red painted and finished in less than 5 months.
You guys have a really definitive style. I like how you block in the main colours, leave the edges simple and treat it like a vignette around a highly detailed centre that draws your eye in. Very cool.
And that is why you don't charge per hour.. You charge for the outcome (e.g., Quality gradings). The profit is in your skills which grows over time and gives better profit margins as you require less time for the same results at the same price. Next is of course based on demands which jobs you take on.
The beauteous irony of watching this while painting commissions, hearing the same issues I've gone/go through, is both hilarious and humbling
At the very least, this shines a light on how hard being a creative is professionally. I sculpt minis and make 3D models for product design etc, am always improving but the living isn't quite enough. Great vid! 🎉
That Morathi paint job was utterly stunning. So good!
Would love to see the tutorial aspect come back into these videos. You were great at that. Beautiful painting lads
"The airbrush cuts down 90% of the time" *Curses in clogged airbrush*
acetone always takes care of it for me
Lukas is an amazing painter I’m blown away by every piece!
Yes I love his painting :) I want something painted from him :D
Cool project! I've done commission work full time for a while, but that really meant doing table-top quality armies/warbands and boardgame minis a lot. I've learned how to paint really quickly though. Once you have a good workflow and know how to put down colour and contrast and a focus point really quickly, and which details are important and which are not, you can paint really fast.
Would’ve liked to have seen a breakdown of the actual financials. All you said was you made less money than minimum wage. But what was the Charge per hour in comparison to the wage cost, paint cost, cleaning products used, postage cost, tax etc. this video didn’t really do anything to address these important things for those who are thinking of doing commission work. And as a previous comment said. You should have gone up anonymously. The reason you got work but no tips is because the clients know you are good painters and have a successful RUclips channel. So really this video didn’t prove anything.
Try painting something other than Warhammer. There so many wonderful stuff out there and it is a same seeing all the content creators blaming "the algorithm" for their choice when they are the ones keeping the status quo the way it is.
That keeper of secrets was amazing. I would never have guessed it only took Lukas 3ish hours. tremendous skill!
How tf are those paint jobs that good in that short amount of time?!? 😂 crazy good job guys. Love the video and idea behind it
The main issue is that you live in Sweden. You just need to move to, for example, Colombia, and then no problem about making your time worth
I would have loved to see a bit more of a summary about the financials at the end there. How many hours spent in total, and gross/net earnings after all your time/expenses.
Wraithlord wasn't painted in Ulthwe scheme. I'd have been disappointed. Should have painted the head wraithbone, and it would have worked.
Basing guide for The Light of Eltharion and I’ll fly to Sweden to hug you 😂
That moss looks so good!
These guys are here cranking out paint jobs in 3 hours that'd take me a week... and they're getting paid barely minimum wage for it! That makes me sad, man...
Dude, splitting the screening during your ad is a game changer.
Hi folks !
I'm so triggered by gaps ... Guyz u can fill your gaps when you build model, first make a good deburring job for the piece to fit together perfectly and if it not enough, just add smoe plastic glue into little gaps, gw plastic will melt and fuze.
The split screen sponsor section was a fantastic idea. Watching Lucas paint, but still hearing about the sponsor.
I do commission painting for a living, and I'm nowhere near as good a painter as either of you. However, you need to be able to scale up and down what level of painting you do to meet the amount of money charged. Something like a single Primaris Marine can cost $10 to paint if it's just color blocked in to meet minimums, or it can cost $25+ if it's going in a display case. One off miniatures will always cost more since there's not an army to batch paint and absorb time slips across the whole army. A Trooper might set you back, but the HQ will catch you up.
7:00 Definite "holy crap!" Moments looking up at the screen right there. 👏
I cant finish a crappy looking mini in 4 hours haha.
Absolutely love that blue vs orange contrast on Thraka.
So lucky the people that got their figures paint by you guys! great video
Do you guys wear a mask when you airbrush? Or use on of those filter things?
I am curious if I should stop airbrushing in the house without a filter or a mask.
like to see how ya paint historical eg Napoleonic, WW2, Roman
Prefer the split screen ad. Smart idea.
You are the best Emil and Lukas. for christmas im getting some warhammer and star wars legion minis you have inspired me to paint more and more btw är från Sverige ❤😊
The Avatar, Morathi and the Keeper of Secrets in particular turned out amazing.
But all the minis looked great.
Emil just makes this channel come together. 2 bros painting minis, what's not to love? :d
I haven't done Fiverr yet, I've taken my commissions from social media (facebook, tumblr, twitter) and advertising at my FLGS. When I started out I really undervalued my skills (and still do to an extent) and I took on larger projects as well as single miniatures. Definitely not good for full time work, but something is better than nothing.
What's up with the not painted backs on a couple of the minis?
I miss you teaching painting. Love the videos but really miss those.
I'm always expecting y'all to start off with "skjera bagera"...
What I like most bout your videos is that you speak english so well despite you're not english native speakers like my self. Greetings from Poland!
Shows that the fiverr service isn´t a service to work like a painter but a service where you get paid a little to practise your hobby of painting and sharing it with others.
If you don´t have fun painting and see that as the main reward it ain´t worth doing
It's great if you live in a third world country
i always enjoy these fiverr videoes ... it's just awesome to see how different people think how the wanna paint the mini. - thanks for a good video and thanks for keeping my hype up about painting and Merry Christmas
16:20 Im glad Emil used some green with OSL in that paintjob. When i think green or purple i think Emil. Lovely paintjobs
Please make another 24h paint Session with your miniature backloh
Its insane what both of you can achieve in such a small amount of time!
Great video, I enjoyed watching you both paint and I believe I even learned some things. you get 5 stars from me.... :)
Congratulations to Lukas for finally getting a cookie!!
Oh yeah and great paint jobs
You get five stars in my book, I don't have a book though.
Fiverr only works if you are a big time RUclipsr. All I got was: 1 - People who were full and took no new jobs. 2 - People who didn't return their messages and would leave you hanging for days.
That was really fun! Thanks for sharing that. Great, inspiring work as usual. I'm jealous... I wish I had my Squidmar Evolution 2024... waiting on H&S. Am enjoying my Squidmar Ultra 2024 in the meanwhile 🙂
0:43- Well the last 2 would mostly be determined by 1 thing!?!? Do they know who is painting their stuff?!? If this was something though your patreon, then yes! Yes that’s going to be very easy for you 2 to complete the last 2!!!
This was a great video! I haven't used a service like this before, but if I do I'll definitely tip!
I was wondering when you set up your accounts was it clear it was you guys? If so do you feel your notoriety impacted who chose your services and how they rated your work?
Again great work on all these pieces and thank you for putting out this video!
Doing OSL and NMM for a 3h commission for a few bucks is ridiculous... for that effort and skill you should be paid more
Especially considering often times just BUILDING the mini properly takes 15-20 minutes if you wanna sand down ugly bits and scrape off the mould lines nicely, and thats on a simple space marine.
@SquidmarMiniatures What's the track playing at 13:30? It's been bugging me for ages because I love it, but have no idea what it's called haha.
Awesome job on the mini's guys, but jesus, that "client" who didn't even purchase the model he wanted you to paint is just infuriating, even for me just watching your vid haha. I've been subbed for quite a while now and recommended you to some of my friends.
I think that "doing it for a week," and also not using your existing platform to promote it, shows that succeeding was not your primary goal, and you got exactly the results you should have expected.
But, if you use your platform to let people know about your service, and actually do it for long enough to establish the service, >I< bet you, as a half-mil sub RUclipsr, could make a living at it.
The question I think would be the most relevant is would it have a negative impact on your ability to produce content for your channel? On the other hand, could it be a boon? What if you live-streamed all of the painting?
I am not saying this to be mean, it's all good... but I do think you could have made it work if that had been your goal.
However, I don't blame you for not wanting that. Fiverr still sounds terrible, even if your data for this analysis is imperfect.
I was doing comissions for some time, not that I hated it, it was quite fun actually, because I had certain time limit and color scheme and it was an artistic challenge of sorts so I really enjoyed it, but this stuff worked when I had a relatively low paying part-time job, so I was paiting minis as one of the side hustles, as soon as I got to adequate pay it just wasn't profitable anymore and I had no time for it anyway due to more work and other stuff, so I just stopped. edited: also you should keep in mind that I'm not a squidmar and I had just 7-10 jobs a month, and even that way this actually was a good side job considering average hourly wage in my country
The gig economy obviously works best in countries where the cost of living and salaries are very low. For example, if the cost of painting a complex miniature $100, then a painter in Sweden might be better off spending those hours working in the local supermarket, but for a painter in Mumbai that is the average salary for a week (not minimum salary but average). For painter in Mumbai with no real education or career opportunities, doing what you did in a week is possibly more than they could earn in a year.
Painting a miniature in 90 minutes is totally impossible for me. I need something around 4 - 6 hours for one warhammer marine for example and it looks not even close as good as what you paint in 90 minutes :/
But of course I have no airbrush.
I have no art skills, can't see what colors go together and watch these channels to see how cool it would be if I did. But I recently discovered fiverr, and I've got projects I've been stuck on for years now being done by people who do. Couldn't be happier.
9:24- Was that really the message he sent you??? If he actually sent that to you I would have “accidentally” showed his name! Just so he couldn’t screw over any other painter!!! Just saying
i wish i hadnt missed this opportunity, i would of loved to had something painted by you guys
I couldn’t do this for 2 reasons, 1) I wouldn’t be able to do it fast enough in part because I don’t own an airbrush and also I like to take my time, 2) and probably the most important, I’m just not good enough.
I was just thinking, "Man, I'd have totally paid to have you paint an Avatar of Khaine for me," then it was one of the last models.
Great paintjobs. But I can tell that this time pressure put a downer on a normally pleasurable activity.
Painting for others takes a certain mindset - I don't have it.
just noticed the apple laptops gonna stop watching now but i guess this makes sense artists and crap. but really apple says worlds about this channel !
I tried commision painting for awhile and it sucks. Im just happy i figured out pretty quick that it wasnt for me. I still kove painting for myself and friends though
I have done commissions. I had to paint minis I didn't like including 1 I had passed on buying myself because I didn't like it. It was a miserable experience.
First time I've noticed the keeper of secrets has an extra small left arm hardly noticable that's reaching under the right boob and propping it up. That's not muscle and the designer probably thought it was subtle enough but that's exactly what that is lol
Tacticus 3.5 million players? they should be playing Realms of Ruin, new great looking warhammer game.
I would love to see you paint a synthwave/vaporwave scheme
18:40 GQ presents: "Squidmar Breaks Down Their Most Iconic Paint Jobs"
Shaman lady ( 100E ) it's my fav by far . All minis are great 👍
Great video. was good seeing younpaibt models and colour schemes chosen by others.
I don't get how you can do that in 1.5 hours...lol...i would be glad to do one miniature in 1.5 days... ;-)
Love the vids bois, but advertising on tactics is BS the game is a paywall..
7:20 that gap on the shoulder pad thou...
Wish you would do this experiment again and not tell anyone who you are and only use examples we haven’t seen to sell your commissions
Lol, I'm far from good enough to make real money off it! Definitely getting better, but i've got a long way to go.
Watching this movie I've started to wonder how long is 1,5 hour in Sweden?
I was wondering, what airbrush do you use? I was thinking of getting one just not sure what is best for minis
As a 44 Year old father, who starts painting minis half a year ago, its unbelievable how you could do some of these in so less time. mindblown............
I feel you. In that time I am glad I have the basecoat more or less properly painted. 😀
Airbrush/cans will save you time on base coats, priming and varnishing. You can spray batches of minis at one go.
Looking forward to this, I submitted mine but wasn't lucky! Maybe next time :D
Yasss ❤
I don't understand what your saying in the sponsored part. I think I hear batman or bagman but what has that got to do with tacticus?
Yah i tried that once, nothing but brokies wasting your time and money...
Phone overheated playing tacticus; uninstalled
Micro sol and Micro set make transfers easier.
Very clever no buyer will give a bad rating if there model is on RUclips 😂😂
I had thought about doing Miniature Painting, I am no where near a professional, but I could get a miniature Table top Ready at least... However, I am not experienced with an Airbrush, and I am way too critical of my own work!
I have still got my Space Wolves, I love them... Most I am very happy with! But there are some I want to touch up as I am NOT HAPPY with the paintwork ... Some I still need to finish off... I know I could never make it a living as I take way too long due to my own "Its never good enough" Attitude...
Also, If you guys are still willing to do this... I would love to send you some to paint! Only - NO TIME LIMIT... And seeing your work, OH DEAR GOD YOU WOULD 100% GET A TIP!!!! LOL! Being Genuine... I would happily commission you! And probably pay a higher rate too!
Ohh these guys are from Sweden! I thought they were from Quebec 😅
What's the song used starting @ 11:35? It's *so good* alongside those wicked paint schemes
Comparison - Dreem
I got a idea for you guys its a diorama but I guarantee no ones done anything like it
Yeah tactcus is sooooooo pay to play u can't progress otherwise I tried
Sorry guys I already play tacticus, but cool video.
Thank you so much for the code. Im a huge fan of the mobile game
I don't think this is viable by doing what the customer wants. Too much work, then they hesitate to pay or claim they don't like the result, etc.
What COULD work is to actually paint some armies, put them on display online and say "this painted army $1000 that army $1500, no questions asked". It's always a risk, but there are rich people who would buy a nice full painted army. I know I would, if I had the money. You could also sell showcase furniture, suitcases, collectible chests, etc.
Odd RUclips isnt letting me like your video 🤷♂️
