The UV resin and the alcohol inks can be used together no problem. but alcohol slows down the hardening of the resin and makes it thinner, and the inks are extremely packed with pigment. so you need to mix them like one drop in 15ml, not one drop of ink into one drop of resin, or there will be so much alcohol in the resin, that it just wont work anymore. using 1:1 ratio will make it so that theres not enough resin particles touching each other, which means it just cant harden at all, so that was a goof on your side. this will literally not work with any resin and alcohol ink combo. so the 10/10 scam rating seems a bit harsh when this is just the wrong way to use the ink.
@@retroferret3424 worth mentioning that the alcohol will evaporate from the resin if left long enough.. Possibly. Depending how thick the resin is and how warm the air is.
I'm also unsure if they were even using the correct wavelength UV lamp, as the one they bought in the video was 300~ nm when most UV resins ive used are typically around the 405nm range for activation
you didn't get scammed on the glue, with that low viscus version you hold parts together and put the tip in the joint, and then gently apply pressure on the bottle and its works great. another great trick is to use a needle and cut open the head on the needle so you get a tiny fork, then you can use that to apply the glue with, works great for photoetched parts and super thin styrene stuf that might melt with tamiya extra thin
In defense of the "$3" rotary tool you bought, it's actually an engraver, not a full rotary tool like a Dremil. It works well for what it is, and I've got the same one that I've found to be gentle enough to clean support bumps and work on resin 3D prints without cracking them.
I've had mine for years and it works, it also doesn't drain the batteries when just laying around. I don't use it as a dremel though since it isn't a dremel but it works great for the simple stuff.
Thank you. Like seriously, I don't think I ever would have learned this (therefore ever tried alcohol ink) without this comment on this video. Travel safe fellow traveller
@@nicholashurst780 you can also mix it in. but like... a few drops in a shotglass amount of resin. not 1:1. alcohol dilutes resin and makes it cure slower. thats why you can use it to clean resin spills, and clean resin with it in general. but using too much will make the resin particles not bond to each other anymore, since resin makes chains with itself when curing, and too much alcohol in there will make that impossible. so they just used it in a very bad way tbh (something i thought tehy would look up before saying its a scam, when this is literally how all alcohol inks work, not just "chinese" ones. its alcohol with pigment, its all the same ). it also says on bottles and packaging usually that you have to use a few drops per cup. theres enough pigment in there to still color it nicely. if you want solid color alcohol inks are bad in general. use pigment powder for that (takes longer to stir in tho, which is why alcohol inks exist, cause the pigment is already disolved into a liquid that easily mixes iwth resin). but also not in a 1:1 ratio. a small spoonfull for a big cup is enough here. but this will also make it cure slower cause light takes longer to get through to everything.
There's a really easy way to find some of the coolest teeny tiny hobby stuff, especially on sites like this, that you'll never see in traditional hobby spaces: look for nail art supplies And that exact water pot is also sold by a bunch of well known art suppliers, you just got the smarter option
I still like actual medical scalpel blades more than hobby knives.. You can get 100 pieces for like 20 bucks, there's a bunch of shapes, and you know the carbon steel quality and sharpnes QC is great, because it would be a big deal if a surgeon pulls one out and it's dull.. The sharpnes doesn't last as long because they're meant to be one time use, but there's nothing better than pulling a fresh one out and it just gliding through everything..
@@gamingwithdaru Certainly all of the ones you can buy on Shien, Wish, and Temu. Hopefully he's eaten enough Lutfisk over the years to build up a tolerance!
Hey Squidmar, Ive got a few ideas for a videos for you. What if you used your skills as mini painters and the tools you have for adjacent hobbies. Use your airbrush to do makeup, use your brushes to do freehand art on finger nails, use warhammer models to make a train diorama, I'm sure Lukas will love that last one. Love your content
You could use the root piece as the centre body piece of a tentacle bursting chaos terminator space marine, which would be cool but include some kitbashing/sculpting
The superglue actually looks OK - just not for the purpose you need it. Superglue that is this runny is great for repairing loose frets on a guitar or for touch ups on wood.
The super thin glue is for putting the peices together, then applying the glue. It flows in between the parts, then you remove the excess using a cloth with acetone. I think the gunpla crowd uses it to freeze poses. Might be good for Tau Battlesuits.
About the thin superglue. I love that stuff for glueing terrain / dirt / rocks. It has lovely capillary action and dirt sticks almost immediately. I always use these extremely thin ones on my bases. It also seals wood / cork / etc. A local electrical component shop sells a pack of 3 + a sniczer for about 1 dollar and I usually buy it bulk. It is so sheap and so much quicker than PVA or modpodge for making bases. It also reacts with PVA creating a nasty gue perfect for tyranids. So I would not say it is a bad thing :D
Lord of The Print recently had to change the name of the company to Rescale Miniatures. Guess the estate of a certain author’s books somehow decided that the name was a little too similar. Just putting it out there in case anyone is interested in looking them up.
Just as a note a lot of those cheap resin inks work only with non-uv resin, with uv resin it either takes way too long, still sticky after curing or it only cures on out outside
Can you folks recommend any good synthetic brushes? I am not comfortable using animal products to paint my mini's I think using kolinsky mink fur is an abhorrent practice and would appreciate some valuable recommendations that don't exploit animals in the process
The paints are super cheap but theyre not for us. They're perfect for toddlers and little kids painting and just getting a bit messy. Reasonable easy to clean. Not big pots so if they grab it its not huge amount of paint being thrown about. It's just not meant for minatures. 18:29
Was watching the video, I think the reason the alcohol colours for resin doesn't work is because of the ratio. As someone who makes resin dice, the alcohol and resin ratio is really important.
Those droppers of dye for resin are literally the same i got off of Temu a few weeks ago... they're pretty good with casting resin! the greens i got were a bit weak but everything else was good! . I do love how these websites are a literal gold mine...in that you have to spend a LOT of time 'mining' to find the odd little bit of gold xD . . . *** additional/edit... got that grinder from a poundshop years ago..... its fine for Balsa.... . . uhh...
That was kinda funny! I’ve actually never heard of that site before!?! Actually, it the beginning of the video you mentioned 4 or 5 different ones and I think I’ve only ever heard of 1 or 2 of them! And I wish more channels would bust scammers more often! But there was definitely a few products that I would like to know who makes and sells the best versions of them?!? Especially something that I could wear that would actually work great for a magnifying glass but also that I can still see normal in some way so I don’t have to take it fully off to get more paint on my brush?!? And also something I could add to my phone to take professional pictures?!? Because that is very frustrating that no matter how good something is that I just finished, it still looks so bad in my pictures!!! That and when it’s really big with many different dimensions a lot of it ends up blurry!!!
Nice tip for knife, you can buy a medical scalpel in pharmacy and a box of 100 blades for around the price of the GW knife, and 100 blades is enough for the rest of your life. I think it's more worst than 5$ knife with 5 blade you can found everywhere.
