The 'self-healing' cutting matt is a standard naming scheme. It's supposed to mean, that after cutting there won't be a bump where material is pushed out by the blade.
If you treat them with respect they last quite well. If you take a big knife and use a lot of pressure well you’re going to mess it up. Same with cutting boards and well your knives as well.
I REALLY like Army Painter's stuff paints and all. They really helped me get started with easy to understand paints that show the order of colors (I had never painted before) along with decent tools that I like.
I bought a Wet Palette and it came with a few small books that are filled with painting tips and technique explanations, very useful and cool of them to do this
@@radug9594 what does that have to do with me pointing out they haven’t rusted in response to their question? Do you have a question to go with your answer or is just answering questions no one asked your thing?
Considering that Army Painter is a brand build by hobbyists, and it's a core value to the company to give us all more time for wargaming - this feedback and praise is surely more than appreciated. 🙌 Indeed the wet palette and especially the paints are awesome.
I have a 4yo Army Painter Wet Palette and the redgrass. Redgrass is better in every way. The only upside is the brush holder inlay. But it kills your brushes due to humidity.
Note that the Side Cutters in the kit is a lower spec version of the 'Precision Side Cutter' meant for heavier work on metal and thick resin parts; it's not their 'Plastic Frame' cutters. So not strictly an accurate comparison of that one against the GW and RGG ones. I still love my Dspiae ones though. With 'Self Healing' mats: The middle layer is elastic which is pre-stretched before the outer layers are glued to it. This means that the middle layer is constantly trying to retract to it's unstretched size. When you make a cut in the outer layer, the sides of the cut are pulled together rather than leaving an open slice, effectively 'closing the wound' but not literally rebonding the surface. This is the case with ALL 'self healing' mats, not just the AP ones.
Side cutters all look to be at the wrong angle. Every good expensive cutter has blades almost 180 degrees from each other, those look like 60 degrees, there is no way they can cut flat and not eject plastic shrapnel across the room. Not to mention fitting them anywhere on the tight spruce. But maybe if there is a lot os space between parts, and contact points are long and thin they can work? They look like specialized tool, not general use cutters for minis
@@krzysztofkurdziel6742 "Every good expensive cutter has blades...." The ones you're referring to have only a single blade that cuts against a flat 'anvil' face. That's why the faces are at '90' degrees to each other, not 90.
@@RichardJRussell I don't think any cutters considered good regardless if with 1 or 2 cutting edges have blades at that acute angle. At this point get cuticle trimmers with straight edge and you're good. I tried that btw, they are not great
Hat's off to y'all for giving the wet palette a fair, honest review even though they're a major competitor in that space for y'all. Nice to see a channel with some integrity! För Sverige!
I disagree with you guys on the basing set for beginners. I paid $16 USD for the basing set as a true beginner and I think it is one of the best hobby purchases I’ve ever made. I’ve used at least one of the items from that set on over 50 minis. As a beginner it was a way to get a lot of different items for a low price and learn how to use them. Because I only use a little bit, this set will probably be used on 500 minis (if I ever complete that many). Battlefield Field Grass - Maybe I need to try an option from another company but I think it looks fine. I like the vibrant green color against darker minis. Brown Battleground - sprinkle a few to provide texture and color on a base. Goes great with battlefield field grass. Summer Undergrowth - I like how it adds color, texture, and height to bases. Can cover a lot of area while still seeing portions of my painted base below it. Battlefield Rocks (cork) - take paint, provides texture, looks great with just dry brush. Can be cut for different shapes and sizes easily. Battlefield Snow - my preferred usage is to mix with glue and then dab on little clumps onto the base as fresh snow. I wish the size wasn’t uniform though. Swamp Tuft - intro to tufts for me. I use for variation with other tufts on a base. Basing Glue - just works, dries clear and matte
I think the biggest argument against the set is that it's not essentially self-contained, ie you'll still need other stuff like sand to make a base look decent. Sure, it's a great spread of different materials, but adding a similar bag of sand (or perhaps mixing the decor gravel with sand 1:1) would go a long way in making this a better product. Additionally, I dislike the use of actual lichen as it's likely not harvested sustainably. The specific type they're using (reindeer lichen) grows slowly and mostly in Arctic climates.
Agree 100%. I used the Battlefield basing set to get back into the hobby and it really helped me. I still use the static grass, battlefield battleground, and swamp tufts to this day, they honestly look fine.
These "starter sets" explain why so many beginner models/bases look the same and shit. Just spend a day sifting and cooking a bucket of sand and you'll have basing material for all of your life. The reasonable thing to do is paint over any of that basing crap anyways so a bucket of sand (free) and a set of 2-3 different lengths of static grass will set you up for life pretty much, for far less than this beginner kit. And it will look much better than a uniform base full of gravel that in-scale would be larger than fist-sized rocks.
@@AKKK1182 But the whole point is that it's only a "starter" set. If someone enjoys the hobby then they'll probably eventually switch to other items or even learning to do it themselves with materials they gather as you mentioned.
The army painter wet pallet will hold their brand brushes. The clips are spaced for the triangular shaped grips. But i get that it does hamstring you into getting more of their stuff vs the stuff the hobbyist is used to.
Army Painter is always what I recommend for beginners. You can always get higher end tools later but you get a lot of tools to start off at a good price.
A smart shopper can find similar, better quality tools at many home improvement stores in the States. Branded hobby tools = upcharge for the brand name.
@@SquidmarMiniatures The worst scams from the overall reviews I suppose, like the awful lichen. Were there also bad paints from temu or something in one of the vids ?
In high school I dipped my toes into the world of miniatures and for Christmas that year my parents got me a pair of small Kobalt Diagonal Flush Cutters, I don’t know if you have Lowe’s hardware stores in Europe but Kobalt is their store brand. After a 12 year hiatus from miniatures I got back into Warhammer about 6 months ago, when I did I bought one of those get started with Warhammer kits from my local GW store mostly because it came with a bunch of paints I wanted. Halfway through the first combat patrol in the starter kit I noticed the GW starter clippers weren’t fully cutting through the sprues so I looked closely and the tips had bent outwards on them, so they got trashed after like 2 days of use and I went to a different gaming shop and bought a pair of the Army Painter clippers but they felt awkward to use on such small models so I set them aside and went on the hunt for my Kobalt clippers, I found them, finished the Ultimate Starter Set, then I built all 3 of the current Dreadnoughts, a Venerable Dreadnought, a Razorback and a bunch of other smaller units, they still cut as well as they did 12 years ago when they were brand new. I know that every cutting tool will eventually hit a failure point so I decided I wanted a second pair on hand just in case but sadly they are discontinued. The metal sculpting tools you can find something pretty much identical at Harbor Freight for like half the price. Moral of the story is a lot of times these specialty miniature tools are marked up just because they’re advertised as for miniatures, sometimes you can find basically the same thing or a better version for cheaper at a regular hardware store.
Used the clippers, drill and the scalpel. I am pretty pleased with them. I have had the tools for about 1.5 years now and I think they are perfect for people just starting. I went from a pair of swiss army scissors to the clippers and it was such an improvement. So for a beginner it was super.
Upgraded from the same clipper to a Tamiya one. It cuts through sprue like butter, there arent any stress marks and the sprue bits dont fly around the office. Pricey, but worth it.
Yeah, I've got no issue with the knife at all. The blades are replaceable and I don't have the issues that were mentioned in the video at all. It's a different technique than what they're used to but that could be said about any tool.
I have the AP wet pallete and honestly I'm very satisfied. I like both the sponge and the paper. My previous wet pallete was from AK and the differnce in quality is staggering. The AK box broke after probably 5 sessions and I hated the paper and sponge.
I've been using a few of their products and it seemed overall good to me. Is it really low quality products from china ? (also the copyright thing was quite bad ... )
Really ? IS strange because in France we order a lot in gws... And WE are a lot to dont liké army painter. So IS funny to sée to thé player from différents country has not thé same sensation about tools,paint,... (After IS sure, thé first composition in army painter paint IS a totaly bullshit, thé New recipet IS very nice now )
I started mini painting just doing random pewter fantasy models with whatever paint I could get. It was messy. I started using Citadel products when I started getting into Warhammer 40k. I thought it was a huge upgrade to what I was using, and, honestly, it was. I was careful with my paints so that I never used to much, and I nearly cried when I tipped over a pot of Agrax Earthshade. Years later when I was out of a job and needed to spend a lot of time doing things while I was searching for a job, I was able to get a paint I needed for one of my projects from Army Painter. I loved it. So when I got a new job and wanted to get more models and paints and such, I went back to AP products. I've never been happier with the mix of cost and quality of everything I've purchased from them.
The Army Painter wet palette has no seal so it will not keep paint “workable” overnight as well as any of the wet palettes from Redgrass. The direct Redgrass comparison is their Painter Lite, which also comes with 2 foams and a pack of 50 hydration papers plus a band to keep the lid on tight. Same price in UK as Army Painter.
Just ordered paint from army painter, just because vallejo starter packs are a fucking scam in germany right now You get 30 year old paint in broken bottles. EDIT Because it seems my language was unclear: The 30 year old stuff was VALLEJO introduction paint set, because of that i bought The Army Painter sets, yes they are the fanatic sets and they are fine.
@@manuelklein7627 ok, wait, fanatic is army paint, right? I ordered the Vallejo Introduction game color set, which is still in production and has a new shiny version and got really really old stuff. Dealers seem to offload bad stock on customers. Thats only justified if I order some rare "vintage" paint set.
@@SquidmarMiniatures NOW you tell me! :D I hope the army painter paints wont be that bad. Just starting out, first minis will look like s**t either way...
Yo Emil and Lukas, just want to say I love your video’s and you Guys made me start my hobby. Great video by the way. Also you Guys having discussions is really funny.
The GW price gouging is so lame. Remember playing with your terribly painted space marines when you were 10? That can't happen today as no parent is going to spend $80 on five figures. Glad the 3d printers are getting easier and more affordable.
Thank you, this was super helpful! You helped me make some decisions for my wish list, and also...I bought the precision clippers back when I first started, and I am still mad about it. This video helped me make the decision to just remove them from my hobby tool kit and put them in the shed for other DIY work, so thabks for that push.
I absolutely love the hand drill! I have used it for a good while now and couldn’t be happier with it honestly! If your like me and prefer manual drills over electric then it’s a solid buy!
Got my H&S airbrush and wet pallet yesterday. Love them. As for the tools reviewed, some of them are not bad. I just picked up the clippers and have not really used them. I am still using the pair of GW clippers from over a decade ago. Still going to give them a shot. Love the work you guys do.
Hey guys, I got started into minipainting & all the other stuff about 2 months ago following your channel and others. I bought pretty much everything T.A.P offers & also other popular products. You are spot on with the clippers. A cheap pair from amazon cut through like butter compared to those. The knife I really like and didnt have issues with it. The blades are really sharp for me and the length + handle gives me a lot of control by putting my index finger on the back of the blade. The greenstuff was great I've used a ton in kit bashing and have no complaints about it. (Even used some to repair a coworkers glasses that snapped in half at work! haha) The drill is so nice and goes right into plastic accurately with almost no effort plus lots of bit sizes for different magnets. I know it's heresy but I haven't used the wet pallet yet so I can't say about that one. Their entire paint line I am really impressed with and use alongside vallejo/Pro Acryl/etc. All in all, I have no regrets buying their things as it has made my hobby time very enjoyable :) Thank you for doing reviews on these items and making content for the community so newcomers like me can have an easier time getting into it.
I just bought the ultimate paint bundle because I friggin love your channel and your personalities! (Not mentioning the fact that I need good paints ;-)
I have the army painter wet pallet and the two lids with the strap is so damn good for keeping the moisture in. The strap is tight enough to ensure the lids stay flush and locked. It was my second wet pallet and I’m super happy with it. I also enjoy their speedpaints, sculpting tools and ball bearings. Have not had any rust yet (been about a year in mountain climate). I also bought their basing kit, but I don’t make armies. I really needed a small variety for individual models and that was perfect (the snow will be for Bjorn, etc). The thing I really like about them, is that they go above and beyond with listening to feedback. I guarantee they’ve seen this review. Keep up the good work Army Painter! You do what GW doesn’t and listen to your customers!
If I could post pictures on YT I would, but I converted the brush holder on the small wet palette brush holder to a textured dry brush pallet and it's a game changer. So my wet pallet is a dry brush, wet, AND dry palette
@@martimattia1997just cut the little plastic thing that are supposed to hold the brushes, and glue on some leftover bits you have that have texture. Nexy step is to prime, and you're ready. There are some videos on YT on how to do it.
Glad to see the wet palette did so well, Ive bought one for xmas to my 11yr old daughter that will be gifted alongside a 48 color acryl paint set. Ive recently started my journey into minis with the Hivestorm box, and I bought the AP toolkit. I have no references to other tools on these materials, but for me they have done the job well in assembling Hivestorm, Starter Kit, and Exaction Squad. A new clipper has been a down the line item, and I might splurge a bit when I get there. As for glue, I just bought Citadels plastic glue, havent touched APs yet. Overall Im happy with the set, and will upgrade down the line. To me it seems like an all purpose starter tool kit, a kit to cover most materials in as few items as possible.
I really like the cutting matt. Not extremely huge and a good price. I can easily move it when I want to paint and then move it away when I am done, with the miniatures and some stuff on it.
4:16 - Yeeeah scissor power! When I was younger I thought scissors were just a safety tool for kids because a knife does everything scissors do. Then I realized that scissors are more like knives that come with their own cutting board and lets you cut things faster and easier without having to do that thing where you straight/stretch out material to get a clean knife cut on it. Scissors are super underrated!
The only Army Painter stuff I have gotten has been the drill with the 3 drill bits, an extra set of drill bits (comes with extras of the really thin ones), & the magnets which I believe are 5mm & 3mm diameter. I haven't really had any problems with the drill, except for a few times when the drill bit got stuck & just freely spun. All you need to do when that happens is take it out & retighten the head/cap that keeps it in place. The little box that the extra drill bits come in is a little bit flimsy, especially at the hinge, & I always feel like I'm going to snap the plastic when I open it, but that may be due to UV damage from sitting in sunlight on the side of my work area. The magnets are great, I haven't had a use for any of the 5mm diameter ones yet, but I can see them being useful for attaching some larger models to bases. Fairly recently, within a few weeks, I use the drill, some green stuff, & the 3mm magnets to make the arms & heads of my Avatar of Khaine model detachable. It took a bit of finaggaling & reconstruction, but for the first time in a very long time, I successfully magnetised a model.
I actually really like the Army Painter snow. It looks great when you mix it with pva glue into a thick gel consistency, and it is the most durable snow that I have found for wargaming bases.
The best way to describe the precision AP clippers is “limp”. Army Painter stuff is a gamble. My clippers from the start collecting were great and didn’t even cause stress marks, but the superglue was dried, the drill broke, the greenstuff had a film across the yellow side, and the knife was dull
Hej! Jag heter Arvid och är 13 år gammal och älskar dina videos. Det är så himla härligt när du hjälper dina fans med figurmålning. Det är verkligen jättesnällt! ❤
Always been a fan of Army Painter. Once got a paint set from them, and they accidentally replaced one of the paints with an extra bottle of the same paint next to it, meaning I had two bottles of bronze, but was missing a silver. I contacted customer support and sent them my info, they couldn't send a replacement due to my country, but refunded me the amount I would need to purchase a replacement bottle from a store of my choosing. Very cool of them to honor that. Love their wet palette, I got it as a gift from my friend and I use it all the time. While they're not high end or crazy in the quality department, they're at the very least reliable, affordable and easier to find where I live. 👍
I have no idea why this vid ended up in my recommends but it was sooo much fun! Swedes bashing a Danish company, lol. I've used quite a few Army Painter products and the only one I've had words about is their varnish / seal. That too might be user-related, because I need to use the spay outdoors. I've never even thought of buying clippers, files , sand paper or craft knives from a gaming shop (I don't think anybody else has either because I haven't seen them being sold). the little drill I've tried to find because my hardware store doesn't stock them any more and I managed to break mine. I would love to know how Army Painter paints compare with Vallejo, not that it would matter much because I use Vallejo from that category of paints anyway (easier to get). Oh, and I make miniatures and custom dolls, that is why I use these products. Some of my friends do paint warhammer, so I'll pass a recommend to your channel!
I was given the basing kit by a well intending friend and I've been finding some uses for parts of it. I actually needed cherry blossom petals for an asian thyme model and after a few weeks of no luck I poured some of the snow from this kit into a little cup with some pink paint and kept stirring it and it did an ok job so don't like the snow, add paint and make it something other then snow :)
Stressin' me out, bro! Side cutters are for cutting the sprue gates. The frame cutters are for cutting the actual sprue frames to prevent damage on delicate parts and to make accessing some of the gates easier. The Frame Cutters an adaption to GW's super fragile parts that break when a side cutter even touches it. Any Daughter of Khaine player knows that agony and the NEED for a good frame cutter. That's why the frame cutters are so big and chonky. It's not for cutting the actual minis from the sprue. As for the side cutters, as with the God Hands, you're supposed to cut away from the mini, not right up against it, and then use a better, precision tool to remove the gate nearly entirely, like the Tamiya, God Hand, Dispae, or Red Grass side cutters and finish up with a low grit sanding tool and then polish it with a high grit sanding tool. That's why God Hands are a two tool system, which is why the full system is like, $100 USD. It seems like Army Painter is trying to make a 3 tool system, and only like the frame cutters work well. Like with God hand the PN-135 (or PNS-125) is used to remove the part from the runner gates, the SPN-120 is used to nearly remove the gate, and then your sand away the rest of the gate to prevent stressing the plastic. It's why they sell like a gajillion different sizes of sanding sticks. That's how you're supposed to do it according to God Hand utilizing their tools as intended. Army Painter definitely needs to redesign theirs though. The precision ones need to actually be freaking small and cut like butter. And considering you'll only ever really buy cheap, rugged cuts-it-all side cutters once in your life and you can get like 5 on Temu for like 30 cents that you use to cut brass rods with and then just use them for conversions after that, Army Painter needs to make sure those chonky ones are actually good for how much they cost. As for the wet pallet, I use the Army Painters for metallic acrylics that aren't from the Vallejo Metal Color Air line and my Red Grass for normal acrylics. It's definitely a solid buy.
You get what you pay for and honestly those tools are better than what i started with. And i use the wet pallet constantly. Based on what i saw, not what you said, i would recommend that starter set to everyone who is looking to start the hobby.
Yo squids, I just got the full paint set delivered today! Going to assemble the miniatures and watch this - impressed with the quality and glad they’re not resin! I like sprues and poly, gj team 👍
I have the army painter wet pallet myself and used it for quite a while, I really enjoy it, for a beginner it might be hard to know how much water to put on it... But it's the same with most wet pallets! A little tip on what I did with the "brush holder" was that I clipped away the unnecessary plastic that hold the brushes, dumped som super glue in there and a pile of bits! Boom on my wet pallet i have a dry brush pallet as well. And on the inside part of the lid I made a dry pallet! Now it's a 10/10 pallet
I've been using the Plastic Frame Cutters for 2 years now, I'm now intrigued just how good those Godhand cutters are, will need to buy myself a pair for christmas
Sooo.. maybe some video about basing products that you actually recommnd? Like the best tufts, static grass, bits and bobs for the bases (vines, flowers, anything) etc?
The other thing with that railroad lichen you chucked in the bin as the biggest scam? The incredibly stinky stuff? I tried to use them on a 1/35 diorama. The lichen is coloured with a water soluble... ink? I think?.... either way, once you spray spray adhesive or PVA on it, to roll it in scatter material to make bushes, revitalises the colour and it gets _everywhere._ If you persevere with it, you can make some decent bushes, I used a mix of leaf tea and some punched paper leaves and they look good, but the trouble I had getting it all together then cleaning up afterwards... never again.
I got the like all complete nipper glue paints brush set. And the super glue was just utterly cured in the bottle. They sent me a replacement free of charge! And the paint inlay was nice to keep organized. Fond memories
I have used army painter for years personally. I gotta also say that they have been amazing as someone who runs a hobby group for kids; I asked if they had a partner program for groups and they sent me a complete set of paints, minis, hundreds of brushes; was an amazing help as we are completely not-for-profit. Contrast to GW who have a shop literally down the road from my office and they won't do a thing to help. Armypainter are the GOAT imo for at least giving a hoot about their hobbyists.. (even if their old paints were a bit mid)
Was always told to avoid Army Painter tools when I first got into the hobby a few years ago. Funny enough, the one tool I did buy was that hand drill, and I completely agree. The handle is nice, but my god AP's drill bits are garbage. I messed up so many barrels cause of those dull af toothpicks.
I actually have used the drill much more then i thought i would, though the smallest bits can be really hard to use due to grip.. But for making holes for magnets in a figure that becomes a convertible and in a trumpet on a banner guy its really fricking great! Mind you i have no other tool to make them holes with because "no honey, a dremmel is expensive, my mom has one we can borrow" Hmpf.. But the rotating bit on the back of the drill makes it honestly so nice to use..
I misplaced my game envy wet palette in a move and bought the army painter XL palette to get me through and it’s easily my favourite at this point. The game envy one is amazing but the XL one with the combined dry palette is awesome.
With the cutters you should try to look at the edge profile too. It's not as important with plastic as it is with something like wire stripers, but it still makes a difference. A lot of companies use a narrower edge because it's cheaper and easier to sharpen and they cut like butter. They also don't last worth a damn, which leads to buying more. Something closer to a 35° edge makes for something that holds seem edge really well and is far less prone to chipping. Knipex is the only one that i know of for certain that makes those kinds of edges, but those would be overkill unless you want something that is likely to outlive your grandchildren's grandchildren if used for just models.
Easier/quicker way to test ball bearings is to check whether they are at all attracted to a magnetic. If yes, they contain iron and are not “stainless” and will rust.
Mixing balls are the best you can buy, 5 years in my bottles and none of them rusted even a little. I had other brands or no brand balls rust in weeks, army painter’s are a solid buy!
Love Army painter. They arent the best, but the value for money is normally top tier. Their paint starters are amazing. Talking about sprue cutters and not mentioning Xuron? Biggest recommendation i can make to my warhammer brethern is to look up supplies online for "gunpla". They use the same things we do, but dont get scalped nearly as hard.
I love the wet palette, but it was interesting to learn most clippers don't leave stress marks. It somehow never occurred to me that a decent set of clippers would cut the sprue, rather than crush it into giving up. I *really* need new clippers, lol.
It was probably unintentional, but the score they gave for the start collecting box of X/Scam was only .15 higher than the average of each item in the box /Scam. Very good on them for being able to give very accurate representation of their scores when thinking of the box overall.
I had the same exact experience with the drill that Lukas did. The bit just spun around after a point because of the way the chuck and shank are made. The chuck has nothing to grip on a shank that round. Fortunately I had to get a different set of bits from Amazon because none of them that came with it were small enough, but even then their shanks were bigger to the point where I had a lot of trouble even getting the one I needed to go in!
Best tip for the sponge.. if you work in corporate building, the cafeteria will likely have large yellow thin sponges in an "emergency" wall kit for spills. I cut a couple of them down and have a bunch for mu wwt palette for zero dollars
I can vouch for the Army Wet Pallet, it served me for years without failing. The bush holder was awesome, loved that feature. It was only replaced in the last couple of months with the Squidmar RedGrass XL wet pallet, and was a solid upgrade, love that new wet pallet. 0/10 scam for both!
I have the army painter wet pallet as my first wet pallet and didn’t notice anything about the paper. What makes it so bad? And what would be considered a better one?
I've had the Army Painter mixing balls in a dropper bottle filled with salt water with some citric acid thrown in for good measure that was like 3 years ago and they still didn't rust. :D
i have had the small army painter wet pallette since early 2020, i can say only this year did i need to move to the second foam insert, if you rinse them out with boiling hot water and then put a tiny drop of 99% iso alchohol it keeps the pallette foam from going moldy, i have had paint on my pallette for weeks at a time amd its been perfect.
Same here. I used to like speed paints 2.0, and sometimes I still do, but I rarely use them anymore. Fanatic paints are by far the best paint line I’ve used though.
I use both the clippers and the exacto knife, but I love both. I find the blade handle very comfy, it doesn’t actually stop me from doing fine work and choking up the grip, and the clippers came with the knife, pin vice and one of the rough files. (I’ve bought different blades and drill bits since)
I actually loved the AP basing pack, it was perfect for basing additional models to my 2nd edition 40k army, the flock was a perfect match to what I used in the 90s, as was the gravel, the bottle of glue is pva, but just the right consistency, its a handy size, so I have just been refiling it with a big pva bottle. . If they had included a pot of Goblin Green paint it would literally have been everything I needed.

Considering that Army Painter is a brand build by hobbyists, and it's a core value to the company to give us all more time for wargaming - this feedback and praise is surely more than appreciated. 🙌
Indeed the wet palette and especially the paints are awesome.
Fingers Crossed :)
I have a 4yo Army Painter Wet Palette and the redgrass.
Redgrass is better in every way. The only upside is the brush holder inlay.
But it kills your brushes due to humidity.
@@DargorHSK it’s definitely cool with alternatives to promote innovation. 😊
I love my Windsor & Newton wet palette
he is shit talking army painter because he has a brand deal with valejjo. you could expect it be different arounmd if he has army painter paint sets
With 'Self Healing' mats:
The middle layer is elastic which is pre-stretched before the outer layers are glued to it. This means that the middle layer is constantly trying to retract to it's unstretched size. When you make a cut in the outer layer, the sides of the cut are pulled together rather than leaving an open slice, effectively 'closing the wound' but not literally rebonding the surface. This is the case with ALL 'self healing' mats, not just the AP ones.
re: cutting plastic, it's shown on their website and packaging. And speaking from experience, it crushes resin rather than slices it.
@@Velcraft That's fair. I still wouldn't call it a scam.... That's an interesting fact about the lichen. I was not aware of that.
A significant portion of AP brushes are round now though.
I've got the wet palette and haven't had any fitment issues with any of my non-Army Painter brushes (Citadel, cheapo Amazons, etc)
I have held quite a lot of non-AP brushes in mine too, for some reason they do not fly out when you put them in - even though they're different brand
Army Painter is always what I recommend for beginners. You can always get higher end tools later but you get a lot of tools to start off at a good price.
A smart shopper can find similar, better quality tools at many home improvement stores in the States.
Branded hobby tools = upcharge for the brand name.
The travel wet pallet is one of my favorite things because it's so easy to pack to go to paint nights or just move to the couch for a change of pace.
jupp i love mine, had it for years
You paint on the couch? WTF?! I’m impressed!!!
Thanks!
16:05 Here's a challenge for you :
Paint an army, but only using scam objects and tools.
So what would the scam level have to be to be allowed? 7+? I feel like there werent a lot of those in this review.
@@SquidmarMiniatures The worst scams from the overall reviews I suppose, like the awful lichen. Were there also bad paints from temu or something in one of the vids ?
a HIGH vs LOW challenge where a novice is given the best of the best and the pro is given the most scam worthy stuff
@papazoulou9326 I'm sure they have generic hobby acrylics from wish/temu that was advertised for minis.
@@SquidmarMiniatures pick temu products vs top tier products
There is a difference between "scam" and "poor quality"
It's just a series on the channel.
Poor quality tools sold at a premium price is the definition of scam.
There is bit there also isnt, if you sell something of bad quality for a lot of money that is a scam.
So how would you quantify IKEA Furniture, scam or just poor quality? 🤣
@@Brinydeep666 No, paying for a Rolex watch, and getting a Ralex watch is a scam.
I have the AP wet pallete and honestly I'm very satisfied. I like both the sponge and the paper. My previous wet pallete was from AK and the differnce in quality is staggering. The AK box broke after probably 5 sessions and I hated the paper and sponge.
you should do this for Green Stuff World. Half their crap comes from china, with a 500% markup.
and they dare copyright claim shit they stole.
Their cansy inks are really good, though, especially when mixed with vallejo metal medium
Yeah, don't buy GSW "Brush Cleaner", it's re-labelled hand soap.
I've been using a few of their products and it seemed overall good to me. Is it really low quality products from china ?

So IS funny to sée to thé player from différents country has not thé same sensation about tools,paint,... (After IS sure, thé first composition in army painter paint IS a totaly bullshit, thé New recipet IS very nice now )
i only purchased the army painter wet palette some months ago as my first ever wet palette and it didn't disappoint

I started like a year ago with the hobby and got most of my Tools from Army Painter.
Now I know what to keep and what to replace.
Just ordered paint from army painter, just because vallejo starter packs are a fucking scam in germany right now
You get 30 year old paint in broken bottles.
EDIT Because it seems my language was unclear:
The 30 year old stuff was VALLEJO introduction paint set, because of that i bought The Army Painter sets, yes they are the fanatic sets and they are fine.
Thats why you buy the squidmar sets ;)
Yeah, if you order the old colors... well, you get the old colors which are bad. Just order their fanatic paints range and you are fine.
@@manuelklein7627 ok, wait, fanatic is army paint, right? I ordered the Vallejo Introduction game color set, which is still in production and has a new shiny version and got really really old stuff.
Glad the 3d printers are getting easier and more affordable.
cuts of a corner ... 'but maybe it will heal' 😂😂
Never buy tools from miniatures companies, buy them from scale modeling or gunpla companies
You guys do a really good job with your ad reads. Pairing it with interesting valuable B role is a great idea.
(Even used some to repair a coworkers glasses that snapped in half at work! haha)
The drill is so nice and goes right into plastic accurately with almost no effort plus lots of bit sizes for different magnets.
I know it's heresy but I haven't used the wet pallet yet so I can't say about that one.
Their entire paint line I am really impressed with and use alongside vallejo/Pro Acryl/etc.
All in all, I have no regrets buying their things as it has made my hobby time very enjoyable :)
Thank you for doing reviews on these items and making content for the community so newcomers like me can have an easier time getting into it.
Recently bought your wet palette. Awesome quality, awesome design. I love it!
I just bought the ultimate paint bundle because I friggin love your channel and your personalities!
(Not mentioning the fact that I need good paints ;-)
The segment about the self-healing cutting mat was absolutely hilarious.
I bought a custom made dry palette on Etsy that integrates perfectly into the AP Wet Palette 'stack' and kept the brush rack intact.
I'm now going to do the same thing.... thanks for the tip.
how you did that? i would like to do it on mine aswell
I've seen someone do this, and I think I'll give it a try.
@@martimattia1997just cut the little plastic thing that are supposed to hold the brushes, and glue on some leftover bits you have that have texture. Nexy step is to prime, and you're ready.
There are some videos on YT on how to do it.
This videos are so frigging useful! I would love to see one comparing brushes across different manufacturers.
I would glue the corner of self healing mat back secretly to prank Lucas) Imagine his reaction 😄
I really like the cutting matt. Not extremely huge and a good price. I can easily move it when I want to paint and then move it away when I am done, with the miniatures and some stuff on it.
yeah i think it was quite average :) good for its price
Best minis clipper is still GOD HAND but, well, that price tough...
I started with that hobby tool kit and honestly find it did the job well. Also got my hooked on green stuff.
👍
I freaking love those old warhammer hills!
Finally, they showed us Lukas sniffing glue. 😂

I'm already there
4:08 two factories, one for the blue side one for the yellow side rite?
I have the army painter wet pallet myself and used it for quite a while, I really enjoy it, for a beginner it might be hard to know how much water to put on it... But it's the same with most wet pallets!
A little tip on what I did with the "brush holder" was that I clipped away the unnecessary plastic that hold the brushes, dumped som super glue in there and a pile of bits!
Boom on my wet pallet i have a dry brush pallet as well. And on the inside part of the lid I made a dry pallet! Now it's a 10/10 pallet
i've been using the wet pallete for years now, i used to travel a lot with it. And i use
now in my stationary workspace. ITS JUST AMAZING.
I've been using the Plastic Frame Cutters for 2 years now, I'm now intrigued just how good those Godhand cutters are, will need to buy myself a pair for christmas
Extra Fine PCB bits are my new favourite replacement bits; inexpensive, a good variety of sizes, and fit a variety of pin vice handles.
Sooo.. maybe some video about basing products that you actually recommnd?
Been using Army Painter’s accessories for years. They were always amazing.
As someone who bought the Army Painter wet palette I love it. Though I've never experienced "good palette paper"
I have not had any issue with my AP mixing balls - been using them since before Covid, very happy with them.
Emil interrupting Lukas when he tries to talk 8/10 scam. Great video, as always 0/10 scam video.
Uh oh. I'm 1 minute in and I'm curious how much of the review will be Swedish animosity to Denmark.

Wow you guys are unhinged on this one! 😂 dont worry, Christmas Holidays are coming! ;)
I use the top of lid to the wet palette to wipe of the drybrush. It's a bit textured and doesn't soak up moisture.
What drill bits do you recommend to pair with the army painter drill handle?
Thanks for the input, I was worried that I ruined my paint collection with these lol
The Magnets are really good fitting for the new Warmachine range :)
i have had the small army painter wet pallette since early 2020, i can say only this year did i need to move to the second foam insert, if you rinse them out with boiling hot water and then put a tiny drop of 99% iso alchohol it keeps the pallette foam from going moldy, i have had paint on my pallette for weeks at a time amd its been perfect.
sorry completely missed what you said during the sponsorship looking at that sick dreadnought and the highlights
The only army painter things I like is the wet palette and fanatic paints , but thats just me
Same here.
I used to like speed paints 2.0, and sometimes I still do, but I rarely use them anymore.
Fanatic paints are by far the best paint line I’ve used though.
Which cutting knife do you recommend?
These are not scams. They are differences in quality and value. Big difference.
I love this series. Hope it never ends!🫡
Where do you get the clippers they recommend?
