    The fact they had to start at the used model market to even make this feasible says everything we need to know. On a related note if you live in an area with a vibrant tournament scene you can probably get a used army pretty cheap. In my home town where the tournament scene is everything we would regularly trade armies for very little as the meta changed. I once owned a huge Krieg army I bought for $100.00 USD and a Blood Angels army half the size. I traded that army for Space Wolves, traded them for Cadian Imperial Guard, and finally traded that army for my original army I started playing with many years prior; Dark Angels. No one cared about the price as long as the army stayed in the broader community, with unique exceptions like the Krieg army because of how hard they are to acquire.

      This is exactly what I was thinking. I kinda feel the video starts with the wrong question, as it pretty much answers it within 5% of it's run time, the rest just being the process of the challenge (which, don't get me wrong, was fun to watch). I don't have the play group anecdotes to put in, but while I'm willing to concede that you're not going to get a tournament ready army in any tabletop system at the scale of 40k for 100€ (or $ or whatever), you should be able to pull together 1000pts, off the shelf, at 200€ for at least the majority of the armies available, which is very much not the case.

      @Belmont1998 the anycubic photon mono 2 is great, its about 220AUD so maybe like 130 USD? you dont NEED the wash and cure stations, but you could honestly just buy one anyway and still be at way less than a 40k army.
      like 20 bucks in resin and then sign up to a model creator you like for ~60 bucks and get the files.
      when you REALLY save money is as soon as you want to expand or change your army. its just the cost of the new model files and resin opposed to a full armies cost. tbh if your prolific in warhammer then even if they where 1000 bucks id argue you could still justify it

    • @catfishrob1
      @catfishrob1 3 месяца назад +3

      Uh... you can't even get one combat patrol for that price. Maybe if you get it on sale.
      However, while it is an expensive hobby, I don't think it's as bad as is often claimed. For certain armies you can buy 3 or 4 combat patrols over a year or so and have a full 2000pts. Let's say that's about $500 per year.
      PC gaming is easily that expensive, even if you only buy games on sale, when you add in hardware upgrades every few years. Snowboarding/skiing is much more expensive. I've spent $500 in a year easy in MTG, and I'm not even playing spiky formats. Traveling will cost you that much for a single week. Going to the movies with your girlfriend every other weekend is more expensive than that.
      Just saying, prices are high for anything. If you spend a lot of time on it and get enjoyment out of it, then I say it's worth it, and so do you, or you wouldn't play.

      @@catfishrob1 nah sorry bro not trying to be a dick but thats just cope.
      pc gaming is a bad comparison cause a pc doesnt JUST play that one game. they are incredibly powerful and dynamic tools with endless potential uses that also includes a level of engineering thats honestly approaching black magic; that is where their value comes from.
      GW makes high quality plastic miniatures. tiny miniatures. maybe this was a big feat 25 years ago, but today it just isnt. one look at gunpla shows you that. they are extremely well engineered and have equal if not better finishes and cost a fraction of a warhammer mini AND they contain a fraction of the actual material.
      the attitude you have is exactly the sort that lets them get away with this. yes warhammer is fun, but the only thing that would happen if the price was actually representative of the product you get, would be that more people would also be able to have that fun with you.
      so stop making excuses for them. the game can be fun AND the price can be bullshit at the same time

    I don't really know why you subtracted the 100 points for the 100 dollars they spent, 41 points for the orks VP and 95 for the eldars paint job (with the last one being especially out of left field), because otherwise everyone would have at least positive points and in relation to each other it didn't make any difference. Maybe divide by the amount of challenges in the end to get an average after also awarding 100 points for getting to 1000 points.

      @@BattleCamperHome So how much did you spend on models and paints for that Eldar army? Gotta remember to subtract points for how much you go over the 100 pound budget.

    do people actually have 1,000 point tournies?
    I think one of the bigger challenges in the US is not only do we get everything as an "import" but people default to 2k points to the point that it can be hard to find games below that

  • @rt2thegod
    @rt2thegod 4 месяца назад +2

    My strategy for this challenge would be getting the necron Ctan shard models since they're like 280pts each and can be printed quite cheap due to their size. Even buying them officially they are only like 35$.

    I think the only way of making this challenge work with no second-hand miniatures is the custodes combat patrol. You can get it for ~85 pounds and with enhancements it's a 1k list that is actually "playable" in 10e
