Check out the incredible 3D Printers and Resin from Phrozen that's used in this video:

Sonic Mini 8K S: phrozen3d.net/mtODp
Aqua Gray 8k: phrozen3d.net/vHG0A
Instead of glueing it down use blue tac to hold it together its what i do
Also you need to try doing a metalic silver and go over it with a copic marker, im getting a printer and ill buy copics and ill print and send some at at some point so you can try it
The copics tint the metalic silver just over all gets a really nice tint
Any news on the table? 😂😂😂
So funny!
@@gavinjames1145 we're working on it, turns out it's big... And takes time🤣
Where did u get your stompa proxy from the yellow one ? Amazing
links to the creators you showcased?
The freebooter mechanical parrot should've been a particularly runty grot with wings strapped onto his arms and a fake beak over his nose.
Easiest way to make it is one of those wood elf sprite things with a goblin or gretchins head
Or a snotlings head
No respect for the parrot squig.
They did that on one of the Ogre Maneaters
Right on ladz, thanks for the video and glad you enjoyed your orcs!
That boss is legend level! Great job man
Great work mezgike. Sculptures were top tier
You're a baller, Mezgike. I own some of your Dredge (deep sea CSM).
@AneurysmHooks Dredge marines are my favorite sculpts, out of everything. When I saw them I thought, well that's it I'm going to get a resin printer.
@@terrylyn I refused to get them and harassed Mez to start printing.
Can we please have a video of all those custom minis getting painted, would be awesome to see. Maybe throw a poll up for people to vote for the colour schemes of them 🤙🏻
That would be sooo cool
at least one of Lucas painting the winged Orc with a swear word counter
YES
Cant wait to see all the prints painted!! #hype
Took the words out of my mouth, please paint these!
Eons of Battle! You guys and EoB are my favorites.
Colab, Colab, Colab… give the people what they want.
COLAB pls i wanne see a colab pls pls pls
Interesting. I have a hard time watching EOB. Unwatchable to me. I have seen a few videos when they do something that interests me, but most of it is just drivel. Each to his/her own.
The thing I don't love about Station Forge big orks is there isn't anything small on them to show scale. It's like they sculpt it normal sized and just scale it as big as they can so they can say they have the biggest orks
I agree. There could be something more to offer a reference level. Even having a bent "STOP" sign on the base offers a little help. I mean, the model at 17:20 is very cool, but if you shrunk it down you would never tell.
I also agree, it really is just a normal although well designed Ork, that has been scaled up and then had a cannon and missile slapped on which is really lazy.
It's essentially the equivalent of taking a space marine, scaling it up several sizes and slapping on a whirlwind missile launcher on to his shoulders and then saying yup that's a titan.
True, although i like much more the 3D printed design, mostly because it is not “big skirt”. It does need smaller stuff, even just windows with guns, canons mounted on his back or stuff like that would show its scale
The file actually contain 3 grots, one commanding, one loading the missile and one mechanic which they didnt prints and showcase for some reason since that would show some scale.
They could get away with it if they started calling them Krorks. @@Omega_MCX
the way Emil looked when ork themed khorne was mentioned im half expecting to see a new army idea
😬😬😬😬
Two things I think you missed on cost:
- MMF has sales All. The. Time. You can almost always get any of these STLs for 40-50% off.
- I'm not sure what resin you're using and how much powdered platinum is in it, but in my experience you're looking at $16-20/kg. So for the winged megaboss you'd be looking at max ~500g if you hollow appropriately, and for the stompa still less than 1kg total in resin. So that'd take the megaboss to conservatively $18 and the stompa to $28, which absolutely wrecks the GW alternative.
same i use standard anycubic resin and the buy in price is like 1/2.5 what they use, and i get the same detail results on my 8k
You 3d printing bros are huffing so much copium I’m surprised you can see any detail of your prints
@@CaptinCroftyI don't even print but they're right like If I go and search for resin it's stupid chesp
@@josphenciso7471 squidmar also airbrush contrast paints so I don’t think they care much about cost/quality they just want quality. I don’t think iv seen a 3d printing review that didn’t have a massive bias
@@CaptinCrofty Point out the bias you're claiming here?
As someone who likes to convert things, the downside of both modern Warhammer & 3D Printing is: Monopose. Increasing your own "workload", so to speak, just to replace a single part is really annoying. And while Mezgikes Models are amazing, and easier to convert - due to Arms/weapons etc. being clearly separated from the body, a lot of 3D prints don't have that. Also, Resin is toxic. So sanding that down or sawing away requires a well ventilated room.
You can do wet sanding in a tub which massively protects you. With a P99 and wet sanding you aren't getting any resin in your lungs
You can always toss them in blender and separate parts for conversions. I do it all the time. It is about the only thing I know how to do in blender, lol.
You should be just as scared of all plastics and treat resin and thermoplastics as the same risk to your body when processing materials. The dust of most plastics are toxic not worth finding out after you are 10-15 years in a hobby.
I can't imagine what people would be doing if the hobby was somehow still just pewter mostly. People would be claiming heavy metal poison after they poked a sword tip too hard and broke skin.
Nothing plastic in this hobby is safe to breathe the fumes of it being cooked or burned or sanded.
If only they made respirators that you could wear, or water for wet sanding.
If only they made different types of resin so you could choose which type to use.
If only there was 3D modeling software so you could change a figure's pose.
If only 3D printing had options of where you could find models or find artists that can design it for you.
Most of 3d artists do shell models with legs, torso, hands and head all separate parts.
In this video they used characters and specific models that are monopose but some artists make shell models of characters too with more options.
You made a very interesting point about some 3d models being monopose, which is extremely valid.
So just for anyone interested. A creator called MrModulork makes amazing modular models and every single kit he makes is interchangeable in terms of parts. I would highly suggest him to anyone who would like to build an ork army. The variety is phenomenal.
Thanks for that, I just checked MrModulork out and his stuff is awesome!! Its so detailed and great poses! Funny part is I NEVER read these comments
Learning 3d modeling basics to allow for reposing and digital kitbashing opens up so much creativity.
The eons of battle intro with the sound affect fucking killed me 😂
Eons are the best 😍😍
Thank you for another great video!
A couple of things that would be of interest in scoring:
1. Supports. Are they professionally supported, or did the creators just use auto-support.
2. Monopose vs parts that we can pose ourselves.
3d printing brought me into this hobby, I could never justify paying tens of euros for a single model. Now I can print as many as I want while practicing my painting skills. Please do cover more of printed minis and give these amazing sculptors recognization they deserve.
You and Eons of battle are my favorite painters to watch out of the five or so I keep up on with every release!
One aspect of the 3d printed miniatures I don't think was taken into account in this video, when you want/need to print more of them you don't need to buy the model again. You just print them. So the more of them you print of them, the more that part of the price per model goes down. This makes resin printing particularly a good option for horde armies. Pay $10 for a model sculpt and then print off 20 of them and that sculpt is now only $0.50 per model plus resin.
Been on a mini painting video binge recently cause I had no time to work on my minis, loved this episode u guys are giving such amazing content thank u
Very cool prints! Would love to see you guys paint up your favorites.
I want to see them paint up their least favorite ones!
I literally just finished printing that Stompa at the end two days ago. its so cool to see it in a video. I would love to see how you guys would paint it, to give me some inspiration for mine. Thanks for another great video Squidmar
Share some love to your favorite GW minis and some of your favorites shared in this video!
I like chosen of mortarian
Mezgike rocks! Actually just ordered the freebooter and Mezgob boss a couple of days ago after watching the work on your warlord titan head. Thanks guys for the video, would love to see your paint scheme next to learn from. Happy holidays and cheers from your newest patron. Keep it up
I'd love more of these, great idea! Happy holidays gents have a good one
This has to become a series where you guys compare aftermarket proxy’s for different armies, even if it’s just for the armies you guys collect, also the chaos orks is an amazing idea you have to do it Emil
I hope to dip into the world of 3D printing in the new year. Love your vids. That winged Ork Boss is amazing!
So while I am just a random commenter, I would say do it. There are many other aspects you can use it for besides "toys." I use FDM for terrain and buildings but also for handicap aids and practical prints such as remote holders or brush palettes. Even for outdoor pond repair or PVC pipe connectors (not watertight, but needed to form a small storage shelter.) The pieces would have cost 250 for all I needed, printed it for about 15.
I know, more info than needed, but hey, there are lots of uses.
Merry christmas and happy holidays to you and your families! Thank you for an awesome year of content
Damn you guys didnt have @blueskyminis in this video. My whole ork army is pretty much made by this guy and man does he do good work.
Btw all of Blues stuff comes in parts so you can pose them however you wish. No mono posing there.
Really educative video. especially for someone just finding interest in the hobbylike myself. Thanks fellas, top job.
One thing I think is worth noting with regards to subassemblies and paintability. Due to the low cost of resin, I've found it can be worthwhile to print a couple copies of something so that I can have a reference model glued to look at while I paint subassemblies. Pretty expensive if you're buying minis, but with resin it's like $2 to print a reference, especially since you can use cheap crappy resin for the reference and a higher quality resin for the real one.
@EonsOfBattle, got a little love at the end brother!
Looks really good . The OSL effect is really believable. Great job. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Hey Emil and Lukas. Merry Christmas from down under. Hope you guys have an amazing Christmas and a blessed New Year. May the New Year be full of amazing blessings for you both and your respective families. Can’t wait to see what 2024 brings.
The way he says “wee-hicle” 😂😂
i think there's a couple mechanical limitations with resin printing that hurt certain aspects. ie. fur usually isn't super fine i think to help prevent failures/ make supporting not a nightmare and some aspects can't be too thin (like those wings) otherwise the resin will break from being inherently brittle
I love watching your videos ... and I especially like your candid (R-rated) dialog. :) Thank you for sharing.
I am not a GW fan (anymore) but I will say they are limited compared to 3D modelers. GW designs for injection (and failcast) molding while 3D modelers can only have to worry about how well it looks. There are SOOOOOO (Yes, I had to emphasize that) many modelers who "design" their models for printing but state/omit they never did test prints themselves. It has gotten better over the years, but there are still many CF campaigns and monthly boxes where the modeler just puts them out. Especially when they model "true scale" and the pieces are so thin even resin has issues.
As someone who cant get any miniatures from GW or bigger brands due to shipping and even id they cost its over 200 dollars for shipping alone my Sonic mighty 8k has been godsent.
I got a load of the station forge Death Korps of Krieg proxies and they are lovely. Recently I got a couple of the scavenger crab tanks which have a great Ghost in the Shell crab tank vibe. They also have an awesome Tyranid proxy line which has some amazing sculpts including a monstrous Harridan flyer
I have bought a bunch of Dark Gods StLs and I've loved every single one. Great value for money, really nice details. I've never been dissapointed with a purchase from them.
At the origin of 40k, orks were way bigger than now, so the scale of the winged one is actually not bad at all !
Was hoping to see some minis by MrModulork I love the endless multi-model combination options you get with his models. Let's see some of these painted please!
Great Video Squid!! love your vibes!!
i feel like the station forge you are suppose to use the Grand Nutta model. And almost all Station forge you need to scale down to 80%
Do they any where on the site state suggested scaling sizes ?
I've ran into the same issue with being able to determine how big a mini going to be relative to the GW models or even other files.
Edit: in general not necessarily specific to a sculptor.
There are some for what ever reason is ginormous when you first open the file and you know that wasn't the intended printing size. Not sure why that happens or why before they upload the file they don'take those adjustments.
@@jc7997ajnot that I have seen. But in the discord people scale them.
@@jc7997aj I run into this problem too. What i do is i take the STL of a model that i have already printed and know the size of, load it in alongside the model im scaling, and use that as my measurement. If i already know the model is the size I am trying to make, i can scale anything else i want to fit the size, be that taller, shorter or the same sizing.
@@raeishimura thank you. I'll definitely need to build up a collection of correct sizes. I print a variety including vehicles, walkers amd titans so having the body from one creator and weapons from another can be frustrating getting everthing scaled correctly.
We all love jay from eons of battle.
Jay keeps his tables all at chest height to keep things closer to eye level. It makes it less strenuous on your neck and back. I do the same thing. A sit stand desk is great for that purpose.
The big boy with the wings would be awesome just as a desk/table statue , just spend ages doing the best paint job you can then sit back and just admire it while taking quick breaks when working . I bet it will look amazing when finally painted up. All the big ones anyway if I was a talented painter I would use them to show that off . Gaming be damned
Great video and great sculptors. It’s amazing how clean your prints are. Mine always look like a melted wax candle. Ha ha
Love this kind of video! I have never tried 3D printing yet and now I want to buy a printer lol! DG or AoS themed video?
Thx guys
21:35 THAT LOOKS SICK!
Warhammer content aside, though you guys do some fun videos, I love your accents! Also fun fact, Orks in the WH universe never stop growing so, while unlikely, an Ork that size is very much possible.
On the small stuff, 6k + with a flex plate for the build plate, and you have perfection
That is awesome you are doing those videos. I hope you do the same with terrain, loving us terrain makers :P
Your editor is brilliant! The explosions when you slap your hands or hit things mKs me laugh out loud.
the huge warboss statue seems to me more like a flex for the sponsor of the video than actually the grading of the sculpt itself 😆 you could've easily scaled it down to make it more at scale with the others
I love that big youtubers are getting more and more into 3D printing, the creativity of the community and the artists is something sle
I feel like the prices you put down for resin is kinda off the charts....the 8K resin you were using is generally 40-50$ a bottle
Depending on where ya are thou. As the prices is higher for quite a few brands in Sweden and Norway. And with the current currency exchange it's even worse.
They're getting paid to promote them. This is an advert.
8k elegoo cost me 30 off amazon
Should we do a vote on which one you guys should paint for next video!!??
there's some 1:1 3d versions out there, that are absolutely insanely well done
I had the same reaction when he said "Ork Khorne theme". I am now inspired.
That music from your retro orks...LOVE IT!!! Berserk (1997) is top tier when it comes to the music...........and the animation........and the story........it's just top tier.
Would be really cool to see you guys do a series of this comparing other faction too.
Another sweet thing about 3d minis is that you can mirror them to get two poses, obviously just a mirrored version, but a paint job will help make two distinct minis.
Be cool to see yall paint these
3D printing gives you more options to adjust size or even change the position of minis in blender. Velrock minis and many others have made options to customize endless.
There isn’t really much else to say
24:04, it's a Mega warboss orc that didn't stop growing, it's in the books.
I would love to see you do a 24 hour challenge for how many points of Orks you can paint together.
For the big and chonky print you should always hollow your print it will save you so much resin ( i think up to 60-65% of the total) and the strength will be pretty much the same.
Just make sure to make "exhaust" hole in the model like underneath the feet or somewhere else hidden so the resin/air can escape.
Could probably print a full size warhound titan with just a little over a bottle.
The only reason why I print them solid is because I love the feeling of them being heavy as hell, almost like a statue. Other than that, you're completely spot on. Also, I wonder what resin they used in the video because it sounds way overpriced. They could have used basic anycubic grey resin for the exact same results and pay like 15euro a kg
@@MrCow579 they used the phrozen aqua grey 8k resin.
Personally i use the same but the 4k variant (got a phrozen sonic 4k mini)
it's amazing resin once you tune in the settings, doesn't smell, stays fairly flexible with small thin prints like spears/sword and just in general the detail you can get from while printing on layer 0.02 is godlike.
@@ParaTrooper996 I can get that stuff for waaay cheaper than them though.. idk if they used the advisory price
@@MrCow579 i thought the same but could be a mistake?
Because i just checked on phrozen's website and the aqua grey 8k are 43$ a bottle.
lol its nice to see big creators shout out other channels you never thought they would be aware of. wish eons of battle did more collabs
Cost comparison is tricky since you have the files after purchase... so you only can compare on single model cost.. while can endless print them with the files
17:11 So Ghazgul killed Angron as revenge for killing his buddy Commissar Yarrick, and Khorne favored him so much he Ascended him to Demon Prince status.
I think some of the more detailed models would be great to paint with the Slap chop method.
The one at 21:25 would be amazing if it was just primed black and dry brushed with white
and maybe have some light sources painted fx. it's cybernetic eyes...
Hey guys, just wanted to ask, have you hollowed out the models or they come pre-hollowed or you just didn't and they are not, cause this strp save a loooooot of resin
for paintability:
Remember that you can usually paint the pilot or rider and the vehicle/mount separately and then glue them together.
cannot do that with printed minis tho
all in all, they were quite gracious in the category
niche and tight spots were not really taken into account
These are difficult to avoid if you want to have a one-piece mini for printing and can be pre-painted quite often with multi-piece minies
Most printed minis actually do come in parts, the choice to assemble them in a 3D program and print it as one piece is purely up to the user. I don't know where you're getting the idea that 3D prints only come as single pieces.
@@Medved725 I know that (that´s why I said "one-piece mini"), but they only evaluated the full model
Or a least that´s how it looks like
The ork with the wings at 18 minutes in would be a cool Tuska Demon killa model scaled down (or kept the same)
You missed the electricity cost and resin washing and fixing solutions. Otherwise a great video 8/10 😂❤
Was the Stompa Printed Hollow / with in infills or solid? it looks so cool but idk if wanna put 3.5 bottles of resin into it
Been following Mezgike for a bit, he really strikes a good balance between originality/creativity and keeping within the 40K aesthetic.
THIS VIDEO IS SUPER COOL MUST WATCH
What a chad
I wonder if you used the slicer reported resin consumption, or for example weighted the vat before and after? Calculated numbers are too low.
You like pirates AND stompas? I've got a Kraken holding a pirate ship that you might like...
I'd buy that Ork Scrap Boss in a heartbeat. It's a bad-ass figure. Nice. 👍
@SquidmarMiniatures Happy Holidays! Did you use 100% infill to print the Stompa? (120$ is a lot of resin.)
Such a massive enthusiast of Mezgike's stuff ❤
Definitely getting the pirate ork stl now 😎! Also, any plans to do a review on Blue Sky Minis? They've got some nice stuff too 😀
You featured some of his models in the opening flash reel, but I wish you guys would have tried out some of Mr Modulork's minis. They are poseable, and each model comes with different build options!
How do you guys print your figures. The prices you were saying are crazy high. I print things like the stompa size stuff for like $20 CAD. Love the video and prints
17:07 this is literally just the beast from the war of the beast
Currently printing an ork army using bluesky minis sculpts. You guys should definitely check them out
I would really like to see a video about 3D printing like the one you've made about airbrushes. Everything explained from the very basics, things to do and not do, safety aspects, additional equipment you recommend, types of resin, optimising printing settings etc. I love the idea of owning a 3D printer, but it all looks quite messy and time consuming...
I agree - there's a cost to 3d printing in the space required, equipment required to start up and maintain the hobby, and so on. I've been curious to get into it, but with just cursory research - given that I'd want to print big more often than small - it just doesn't fit in my life right now. 3d printing can become a hobby on its own, and right now, I can't fit another hobby in...
Once In a Six Side has a Really thorough resin printing video about that. It's basically everything you could want. He's not as careful about resin fumes as he should be (or at least wasn't, he's been taking it much more seriously lately) but he has a really good presentation style and it's very helpful.
21:27 whoever the Ork that fed a Squig with an obliterator Virus is a Mad Ork
Oh man, that sudden Berserk music hit me right in the feels!
@eonsofbattle with the nice shout out. Tha ks guys for some great comparisons and points.
I know its an added step and takes more time, but if you hollow out the models before you print, you can save even more money, which might really increase the scores of the big models. I hope that's something we will have an automated process for with lychee or something in 2-3 years.
I'm kind of surprised that the files aren't being supplied as pre-hollowed. I don't do WH4K, but I've been printing a bunch of decorative statues lately and the STLs have all been hollow already
"If you wanna make a Khorne themed Ork army...." "Whoaaa!" ...there goes my salary for the next 3 months! Thx mate!
stationforge also did an actual Ghaz proxy and it's great! :)
also - you absolutely *can* scale down presupported files, i've printed stationforge's newer models as small as 85% and they were completely fine
Love 3d printing minis! Curious what layer size you print at? .05 or do you go down to .03?
0.5
I would love to see even a combat patrol sized version of the Khorne Orks, someone please bring forth the Khorks !!! lol
Really love this. I just bought a Mars 3 Pro and I'm ready to ''Upgrade'' my ork army now that you make me discover new artists.
Maybe I miss it on the video, but for the bigger printed models, are they hollowed? If not, will this reduce the price and quantity of resin used?
As someone who does a significant amount of 3d printing on any large model I hollow them and yes it saves a lot of resin. I've also had less print failures with hollowed larger models
Would love to see you guys paint these up still!
The first one feels like Warhammer had a baby with World of Warcraft
What resin are these guys using, I printed out that Stompa at the end for about $25, SUNLU ABS like is about $20 a bottle, and the print doesn't need to be completely solid.
3d printing is great, i know it isnt warhammer but i do a lot of Star Wars Legion and i think probably 90% of my armies are printed mostly because the custom models are so awesome and unique whereas the offical models play it very safe with what they choose to make - even my 40k Ork army is probably half 3d printed models i went for an 80s fanboy army, so i have the Ork Delorean, Ecto 1 and 89 Batmobile models and they are so damn awesome
So the Stompa guy, there were Krork that size so I really liked it.
