Seriously.... you fixed the one thing that kept me from byuing the model and now you even make it available to your Patreons? Awesome, there's another 100 bucks out of my pocket :D You are amazing, thanks!
Is there a time limit on when we have to join to receive this benefit? I’m overwhelmed by how awesome your tweak is to this model. I absolutely love Orion and was pretty bummed to see that the new model wasn’t specifically him reborn when the leaked silhouette was so clearly perfect for him. Amazing project! Hopefully I can get this STL so I can make my own King in the Woods!!!
I remember high elves and wood elves being very popular back in the days. Before hating elves for no reason became a popular sport between fantasy aficionados.
Fun facts, a lot of the well known RUclipsrs painters are Wood Elves fans (Miniac, Squidmar, just to put two names).Should I had that it was my army also back in the days? ^^
Squidmar inspired me to try mini painting. I'm now waiting for my stuff to be delivered, and I'm so excited! I hope that's a hobby that can also help me integrate here in Europe. I'm looking forward to making new friends, hopefully
Both miniature painting and gaming are great ways to make friends. Be aware that most groups are quite different from each other, so don't judge the whole hobby from experiences with one particular group.
Incredible sculpt, build & paint! This is prime miniature art and thank you for bringing this into life! I think AoS is a prime ground for artists to go wild like this.
Yeah I’m with you, that’s a fantastic model, but it feels like such a cop-out to just stick another tree guy on top. Could have at least given him a more unique head or Orion’s goat legs and antlers or something!
The model is stolen from Rackham Confrontation's art, just like most of the new aos stuff is ripped off other companies. The minds behind that game are 3rd rate at best.
We live in the golden age of wargaming, where you can fully replace half a model with a custom sculpt that you prefer over the stock one. Incredible stuff!
Wonderful conversion! I love that Belthanos and Alarielle are the only fully-fleshed elves in your army. It really makes the revenants feel more ethereal and ghostly by comparison.
Omg the entire beginning feels like we were the same kid ahah. I love that you should all this ! I still have the army book. Orion was like a dream. Also I was disappointed in the same way. I'm not a huge fan of the AOS versions, they look too much alike each others and unspired, to "warcraft" in the sculpt. You did well with fixing it!
Amazing! I love the 3d print, it feels modern and fits in with the current Sylvaneth range's beauty and etherealness while still feeling like Orion! Of course, the paint job is amazing as always, I'm especially blown away by how shiny and reflective, iridescent almost, it looks!
Absolutely love this! My Orion is one of my favourite models, and I was so sad when this model was announced and felt like a disappointing follow up/ reboot of him, so it's great to see him fixed!
Hey Squidmar I have a challenge/experiment for you guys, you being very talented miniature painters this should be easy. My challenge : pick up a classic kind of Airfix or Revell military model of either 1/72 or 1/48 scale and make something that instead of being a nice artistic interpretation of a thing to make it as photo realistic as humanly possible. It seems to me that many a hobbyists are under the notion that photo realism is unattainable yet the classic modelists have been doing it for decades as what drew me personally into Warhammer 40k for example was my humble classic kind of modeling hobby, and while everything is fine and dandy with being super artsy and solving everything in almost van gogh-ish surreal contrasts overlorded by the color wheel and non metallic metal techniques
I feel you, I was in tthe EXACT same boat. I think that the reason is The Old World, they don't want too many overlaping minis and I'm now convinced we'll see Orion in the old world.
Oh man, you really saved the model! I felt the same thing you did when I saw the official pictures.... So seeing your version brings a smile to my face 🙂
the way you do sponsors are actually genious. continue with the video on the right while doing the ad on the left. if youre not interested in the ad you can just continue watching on the left. that way people dont skip the ad portion. :)
That’s incredibly cohesive fits into the model absolutely perfectly he easily could have made that I doubt people would even think it’s a conversion if they didn’t know
Yea that's what I was thinking it looks a bit too feminine for my tastes I get Elves are a bit feminine but he was more Demigod/Fawn than Elf in the original sculpt.
The only thing good about AoS is the sculpts as they are extremely dynamic, detailed, flowing, brilliant for a shelf or diorama. But utterly unplayable on the table as game pieces as they are to fragile to transport outside a padded tank and scale creep has made them to large to fit on a mortal kitchen table.
I’ve mentioned this on h@s page, but I’ll mention it here too I purchased the evolution in black from you guys, and I am super excited for it to come in about two years ago. I found this channel while trying to get into miniature painting you got me into it you taught me a bunch of techniques which I would’ve never learned on my own, and most importantly you first convinced me to buy an airbrush with your original airbrush videos. After purchasing that airbrush I missed out on the first evolution but you’re damn right I caught the second one.
Well, Orion may return via The Old World. That would explain why this model was created with almost the same lore: To avoid using the same model for two different games.
I have the reposed one and he is still one of my miniatures I keep on display. I gave him an extra showpiece base you can remove him from with a mirror lake and all... I was really sad when he wasn't playeable any more. I like the 3D print but to me the shape of his face still isn't quite Orion. I remember Orion with quite a broad cheekline and more square jawline. Like a really big guy. A bulldozer😂
I found the complaint rather childish and inconsistent. Ok, it's not the fantasy fan's model, but this isn't Warhammer fantasy, it's Sigmar and the model is gorgeous.
For the glaaaade! As a Wood Elves Ever Fan, and Sylvaneth collector I share your same disappointment for Belthanos, and I wanted to convert it myself! Subscribed to Patreon to get the amazing STL, thanks for the generous gift!
Fantastic job. Wood elf spirits in the Sylvaneth range aren't my cup of tea( I do like Druanti, but much prefer the Kurnoths and Dryads ) but I would have gone with a full body replacement with Fawn legs. Orion looks more like a creature of the forest than a tree itself, and would have gone even better with the Wild Hunt characters. The giant insect is impressive, but I would rather convert a normal Kurnoth Hunter so that it's positioned on top of forest terrain. Not sure if Belthanos is the same size though...
I agree 100% here. One thing that has kept me from diving into Sylvaneth is that I think it misses the wood elf existence. I understand making it more high fantasy / nature-themed, but I definitely preferred the elf version. There is still hope for Orion. If I recall correctly, one of the newest harbinger books has Alairelle talking with Kroak about giving up the search and Kroak tells her to not give up hope
If those are the ones I'm thinking of, it was definitely a crime to replace them. They did something similar with the Necron Flayed Ones - original models were great and the resculpts that replaced them were horrendous. They came back and made up for the mistake with even better sculpts later, but the 2nd string of Flayed Ones should have never happened. Let's hope they bring the Daemonettes back to sexy.
I literally just got Belthanos a week ago and was about to build him before watching this video! Where can I get the STL so I can convert him to Orion as well?
Absolutely Awesome! And also if you don't mind me asking a question, what is the easiest way to strip paint from ugly old minis? T-röd? This is one of the best videos I have ever seen in my life, you just make me love more this hobby we all share and get a lot of motivation to keep pushing my projects, thank you
I liked the original model, but only because I wasn't going to use him for Sylvaneth. I added skulls and painted it in blood and bone colors to use it as a daemon.
People make such fuss about spray priming in the cold, but there Squidmar goes straight out into the snow, so I guess it’s really not that big of a deal 😂
Hi there! Fellow Swede here! Love your videos! But now I got some questions... If I want to get into miniature painting and want to focus on making pieces to help "materialise" my low budget home games of Dnd...what should I focus my money on. Is it paint, brushes or is it the quality of the miniatures that should be prioritised? Or should I rather focus on terrain? Is there anywhere (in Sweden!?) I can buy single miniatures after 'my specs'? Say that I would like a young human spellcaster male? Or a beefy knight lady? Or do I have to buy sets of miniatures and then go from there and do my own remodeling? How should I go about this? All help/ guidance would be welcome here!
