In my 2023 Ram HK system, I just packed the sub box w polyfil. Not perfect but much improved. Didn't even have to remove box...just removed subwoofer screws n subwoofer to fill.
This is an interesting 'solution' for the boomy base. I have a 2019 RAM Longhorn and have same complaint with the HK system. The sub is awful for some music, but pretty good on other tunes. I guess it just depends on the frequencies to be handled by the HK sub/system. My initial thought is sound deadening in the sub area.... and if no joy, I will somehow add separate sub and dedicated amp. If anyone has already done this, please let me know where to find the 'how to'. Thanks!
Just bought a 20 last month with the HK. The sub is definitely subby but I'd rather have it than not. Ram could've given us a way to adjust the sub level tho. Not sure if they've added that to the newer trucks. If you're an audiophile like me you want the sub to complete your sound. The guys upgrading to JL must have an awesome sounding stereo for sure with a lot more flexibility hopefully.
I just bought a 22 ram limited red edition with a Harman Kardon sound system. I'm also disappointed in the bass. I'm installing a JL Audio upgraded system.
Hey bud I got a 21 ram with the same audio, are you doing the upgrade yourself or taking it to a shop? Would love to hear how to do it myself if that’s the route you’re taking
I wish my 20 limited hqd the alpine system in it. It has the HK system upgrade in it wnd it sounds like wss compared to my 15 laramie ecodiesel with the alpine system
Hey got a question for you. That green wire, is that for the audio itself, or something different. Like is that where I could use my high/low converter for my aftermarket subwoofer?
Yea, the sub level was obnoxiously higher than the rest of the sound system. It overpowered every song. So I had to decrease the whole system's bass level to enjoy any music, which then made every other speaker sound very "tinny" and high pitched. When I disconnected the sub, I could increase the full systems bass level and get a much more robust sound from the whole system. It sounds great to me for my truck specifically. Everyone seems to have different experiences with this HK system, so yours may be great with the sub...
Common misconception. There aren't actually 19 separate component speakers. Four of them are coaxial speakers. If my memory serves me correctly, the door speakers are 3 way coaxial speakers, so hence the 19 (count each door speaker as 3)
Did this today just to hear how it sounds..... Can not believe how bad it sounds without the sub, absolute garbage.. Also did not need to remove anything to unplug the speaker. Just fold down seat and reach behind the cover panel and boom disconnected...
Unfortunately on the Rebel trim there isn't a release cord / latch I could find. I believe other users have found the same as well, so I went ahead and took the full seat out...
6x9's in all 4 doors, which are very nice for bass. Sub is super boomy, so you need to turn down the bass a lot, which kills all the mid bass. Unplugging the sub allows you to turn the bass back up on the EQ, a d bet better mids and mid bass. If there was a factory sub volume control in these systems, it would sound so much better.
No one even mentioned the kid! It's freaking awesome that he's helping like he is... Most kids are so freaking glued to the TV or Phones now days.
A man can never have too much base.

Totally agree, would be great to have a dedicated sub level adjustment...
the problem is not the amount of bass on those, is how sloppy their EQ sounds.. i have the same issue on my MK8 GTI
Why not pull the pins off the writing harness at the amp?

I’m also disconnecting mine to put two JL 8w7 I’m upgrading the 6x9 with jbl stadium
I have a 2019 Ram with HK and like you experience very boomy bass around certain frequencies. It's just not smooth. I may try this.

Take sub out and pack the box with damping foam or insulation then put speaker back in

Im confused... your not happy with the level of bass for ypu unplugged the sub?

@@insertname8888Thanks, I've always wondered about that count.
I love bass

So you unplugged the sub and it’s absolute garbage without sub plugged in?? Just the absolute different results than OP found..oh well!
@@smokeyyunick2675different strokes for different folks probably
Did you try it by unlatching the seat and folding it forward?

I’m about to unplug mine it’s just sounds horrible can’t stand it
I'm so confused... he wanted more bass so he disconnected the sub?? How does that give more bass?

@@Aviator7901yes, well said.
Agreed! A factory sub level adjustment would have been great.
Thank you so much. This must be the best “upgrade” on the truck.
Glad it helped!
"a lot of people complaining" = wife made this dude get rid of it lol.
EXACTLY my thought😅
That sub sucks, you’re correct… better off in plugging it. Maybe upgrade the door speakers but I agree sounds better
What if i told u u could lower the bass from your head unit 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ok so you told us you ‘can’ but please tell us ‘how’! 🙏
Mines all the way down on the radio and still rattles bro... We're all very aware of being able to turn it down
