My dad has a Ram 2500 with the upgraded Alpine system and I drove it for the first time today and was very very impressed with it. I go to bass competitions and build systems in my cars and trucks. I spent $14,000 building the system in my current truck and it's well over 12,000rms and driving my dad's truck for him today was a very nice change in the scenery as far as audio went. Probably the most accurate and best sounding stock option system I've ever heard.

The alpine system sounds good unless u turn it up. Distortion sets in at volume 25, then the factory amp rolls it off. The factory 2 channel signal out of the head unit is converted into 4 channels at the Amp, then doubles the 4 to 8 then adds 2 more channels for the 2-voice coil sub. Crossovers are 125hz to 20000hz on the dash. 50hz to 125hz front doors, 125hz to 15000hz rear doors, 15000hz to 20000hz on the headliner, and 30 to 100hz on the sub. It’s a tough system to modify and requires a PAC AmPro to do it right. If u want simple upgrade, just change all the speakers to variable 2-4 ohm Infinity Kappas. That makes a good improvement. I personally don’t like the alpine and would never want it as an included option as on my 2015 Longhorn, let alone pay for it. But it’s something that others may love. It’s all just opinions folks.
Couldn’t agree more. I have this stereo and I don’t go past volume 25 or shit gets weird. I want to upgrade but not sure what direction to go. I don’t know shit about stereos btw… lol

Hey man I got a 2013 Laramie 1500 crew cab with the 10 speaker system and it's an enjoyable experience. But my only thing is some of these trucks came with a Factory CD player in them that they would put in the glove box. And I kind of miss having that option because I like to listen to CDs. I wonder if any videos out there have upgrades on adding a CD player or being able to hook in a factory CD player into the truck.
I have the Laramie 2017 2500 and the system sounds good. I am not qualified to say good or bad as I have had it for a week and I listen to Sports mostly.
Interested to know if your UConnect has Apple CarPlay? I believe there was an update that would add this ability to your unit, wondering if you've done this update and your feedback.
I have 2012 Limited. I didn't care for the Alpine system. I completely gutted it. Replaced all the speakers with Infinite speakers including the sub with a custom box.
I had a 2019 laramie with the $4500 Harman Kardon system until the truck was totaled. I bought a 2022 warlock with the 9 speaker Alpine system and I can tell you the Alpine is way better than the Harmon Kardon. And for $4500 I think it was a piece of junk! Alpine sounds way better.
I was listening to a podcast on medium to high volume midway through the podcast the audio change and it was ska ha and then my speaker started sounding like somebody was screaming. I guess I blew my speakers do you have any advice or help?
I can say that the 6 speaker option sucks. Actually the "suckyness" all revolves around the 8.4 radio unit. There is no real equalizer to the system. The 3 band EQ and the lack of customizable presets hurt the system. Don't get me wrong, I love the radio, I just hate the sound coming out of it. As of today, there still isn't a way for me to change the head unit and retain ALL of the features the OEM system offers. So now I'm building a system to correct everything wrong with the sound quality and it isn't going to be cheap..
I recently installed the PRAMCQ13. It sounds better than just putting new speakers in. The problem comes from the fact I listen to a wide range of music for many different eras. Pre early 90s music sounds horrible, little to no bass, average upper & lower mids, good highs. Early 90's to 2000's I have to adjust the bass all the way up and the mids almost all the way up just to get it to sound decent. 2000's to modern music is the best sounding from the system, but I have to turn down the highs. I guess I'm spoiled from having complete control over the EQ. I going to turn my 6 speaker (4 channel) system into a 8 speaker (8 channel) system. I should be able to get the sound quality I want from that.
no they are not tied together, but the Alpine is not standard on the sport either. I have a 2017 sport night edition that is loaded and the only options it doesnt have are the park sensors and the Alpine stereo
Great vid! I just traded my 1500 sport with the alpine system for a '17 mega cab but sadly without the upgraded system. I love the truck but really miss the alpine system. I will be upgrading in the future. Side question, did you notice any miss alignment in your cab/bed? I was washing mine for the first time the other weekend and noticed the rear bumper was off from left to right. After further inspection I noticed the bed and the cab are slightly off and need to be adjusted. From what I researched online and from checking out other 2500's it seems to be a fairly common issue. My truck goes back to the dealer next week to get fixed, it drives me crazy every time I look at it now knowing it's wrong.
+kingx37x Thank you! I bet that is a hard transition from having it to not. I haven't noticed misalignment between the can and bed or with the bumper on mine, but I started looking at other trucks on the road. A ton of them have the bumper slightly offset to one side. It's really weird and I get why it drives you crazy
The equalizer on the 8.4 radio is not great. I play everything off my phone anyways, so I use an eight band equalizer on my phone. I leave the radio presets at 0. Sometimes I turn the sub down to -2 or -3 to take less hit off the kick. I replaced the sub speaker with a pioneer speaker and added some fill to the stock plastic enclosure. It worked magic. I felt like that was the only thing that was truly lacking on this system.
start making more videos haha the more you put out when you first start the more youtube will promote your videos. Thats why my channel became stagnant lol
as far as I can tell the 2017 8.4an from a Chrysler 300 is the exact same model number yet I understand the RAM software on the 2017 8.4an does not include android auto and apple car play. Can you confirm this?
+Drew Allwright my understanding is that the hardware is different (Harmen for the Ram, Samsung for the Android Auto cars), but that is from internet reading. I would be delighted if it could be fixed with a software update.
I know this is over a year ago but I found your videos in the suggestions list. There’s a company that sells the stock head units pre set up to plug and play, including the head unit for the 2018 trucks which have android auto and CarPlay. Which can be installed in older models. Plug and play. Check them out. The company is infotainment. Google search or search them here. What do you think/ know on this subject.
so the usb drive was removed for 2017? I have a 14 Longhorn that I was forced to do a Uconnect update on. Now when I plug my Ipod into the UBS port, it doesn't automatically run as before. Now I have to select media and then push the play button on the touch screen. Also my sat radio screen changed from full screen logos to the small box logo with song related art, which I don't care.
I’m going to tell you guys some game changing info about the 9.1 alpine system... It’s crap. But it’s worth getting so you can upgrade the dash speakers to jbl or infinity reference 3.5’s and the rear doors need nice 3 way 6x9’s. That gives you a much more balanced sound and crisper highs. The front doors are okay as it because those are actually decent quality and produce bass only. The sub also is weak and I added an alpine 10” and an alpine mono amp. It’s a bit of an expense to do what I didn’t but it’s worth it! At least do the 3 dash speakers and the rear 6x9’s. TRUST ME ON THIS!!!
@@recombi123 Here's a great thread on RAM 1500 speaker upgrades. www.ram1500diesel.com/forum/ram-1500-diesel-electrical/5556-alpine-8-4-sound-upgrade-speakers-30.html I personally did JBL gx962 for the rear doors and 3 JBL gx302 in front as other posters had and it really improved the mid to highs. Crutchfield has the adapters and free installation instructions.
If I was to buy my truck again I would get it without the center console because getting road head just isn't that nice when she has to bend over the hump...also it would be nice to cruise the backwoods with my woman by my side instead of her across the truck

Yesterday I encountered the 1st problem I've had with my truck: I was driving back home from Indianapolis in heavy rain. About 3 hours into the drive my "check engine" light came on and the engine downshifted from 6th to 4th and locked it there. I tried to manually shift up but, no luck. I pulled off at the next exit and parked, shut the engine off and waited a few minutes then started the engine. The engine light was still on. I pulled out into traffic and the transmission seemed to be shifting normally for about a minute but then went back into 4th where it stayed for the rest of the drive. I dropped my speed down from 75 to 60 for the next 3 hours and the truck just ran in 4th gear at about 2300rpm's. I made an appointment to drop it off at the dealer on Monday morning. I expect that it's a faulty sensor or some other electronic issue. I'm not driving it this weekend.
I picked my truck up yesterday and it's fixed. The problem was as follows: "Solenoid circuit - faulty valve body". They replaced the "valve body" and ran the system through diagnostics and it runs as it should now.
+mac cheese it's loud and there is minimal or no distortion as long as you're listening to a high quality file (aka NOT Sirius/XM). Highest I go is usually 22 maybe 24 out of ~30 volume settings.
It's good for people who don't know. Speakers are really low quality. Name Alpine only.. U can't get any of these low quality speakers from Alpine.. Alpine in name alone..
In previous videos you've said your name is "Pacific Northwest Wreckage" Meaning the PNW was Pacific Northwest and it was spelt reckage. In this video you said it was "PN Wreckage". Which one do you prefer to go by? Or do you just change it to how you feel at the time lol
+John Doe astute observation Mr. Doe. I'm terrible at naming even pets so coming up with a channel name was a challenge. The logo says PNWreckage which was my attempt at combining PNW with wreckage as a tribute to the truck that inspired this whole thing. The attempt was to combine the w in West with the w in wreckage (which is why the "reckage" was all lower case). The more I said P N Wreckage the more it sounded like "pee and wreckage" which sounded like a description for a really bad diaper change, lol. It was further complicated by the fact that Pacific Northwest is only two words rather than the popular PNW shortening of it used in this area. My name is Christian which you are more than welcome to call me, and the channel name is a bit up in the air. Sort of my way of claiming both, I guess. I've mixed it up a few times hoping to get some feedback from viewers, and it really is based on how I feel at the time so good call. Most of my videos are the first "take" and I try to limit the amount of editing because that bugs me on other videos. If I ever had like a sweatshirt made I would probably use the PNWreckage since it's easier to print that rather than the three word Pacific Northwest Wreckage variant. This is a wordy post so sorry about that, just walking you through my thought process.. and assuring you that I know how to spell wreckage, hahaha.
Out of nowhere my audio just got lower.. still plays, but noticed it got like 10 notches lower.. so may buttons on this not sure if I pressed something or is it a problem that needs to be addressed to dealership.. can anyone help??
I noticed a couple notches but not 10. Check the obvious first (is your media volume turned all the way up on your phone, etc) and then look through your audio settings to see if surround sound is checked and if speed adjusted volume is still enabled.
One of my best buds has a ram 2500 powerwagon, 35x12.5r17 toyo open country MT, grill guard, maxed out, awesome badass truck, one thing I don't like is the speakers, the alpine sound system, I adjusted the equalizer to what I have on my truck a 2010 ram 1500 ST the lowest of the low, (also has 35x12.5r17 mud tires) not that the tires have anything to do with it just saying lol, but my speakers in my ST are literally better than the alpine, the bass is much better and it's louder, at any volume it has all bass to it, stock too.
+hmglor I didn't have any issues with my 16gb stick. Think it might be related to the capacity? I know my trail cam and faux pro can't run 32 for whatever it's worth
I've read they toned them down because of the cinema aspect and if you plug in the aux cable into the center console it is much louder. I've been looking into finding away to to bypass that for bluetooth but nothing yet.
medium to loud. It is the midrange that is lacking in the Alpine system. Low end is strong, high end is not quite crisp but the midrange sounds are what is really weak. It needs a better up front and center speaker with a better range.
Dude, this guy must work for Dodge Ram. I have a 2016 Ram Sport and my Alpine System is weak as hell, does NOT stand up to the Alpine Brand and is not worth any additional money. There are no highs or vocals coming from any of the four 6×9 door speakers, and when I called the dealership and crutchfield they confirmed it. What a load of BS Dude
+lawrence holland Hey man. It sounds like you're frustrated and that's understandable from what you've experienced. The 6x9s do not produce highs, you're absolutely right. It uses the dash speakers and headliner speakers for those ranges. A few questions: Have you played with the EQ? Do you have the Surround Sound option selected? What volume level/number do you listen to normally? Is this with Bluetooth audio, FM radio, etc? Have you/the dealer updated your UConnect software? (I noticed an equalizer update while watching the full installation Monday night) Let me know when you have a chance, I'm trying to help.
I've been getting the premium systems from Mopar lines since my 2009 Chrysler 300C Heritage that had the Boston Premium Audio.. the sound is insane, and even without a subwoofer the bass thumps I removed my Alpine Type-R 12s from that car because the stock audio is plenty good.. Other than the BOSE systems you get in Cadillac, these Alpine ones are one of the better factory premium systems you can get. For only $445 to add that option on anything under a Laramie, it's a no-brainer. But to touch on what you are saying, I do believe anyone who is serious about their audio and does their own customization with aftermarket products, they aren't going to be adding that option regardless.. To be fair, most people have never heard a true audiophile quality system in a vehicle.. more than 90% of people go to Best Buy and get door upgrades and a basic box subwoofer installed.. that's still nothing compared to true audiophile equipment.
@@CrimtideStreams true. I built a system with 2x 750watt 4 channel amps powering 12 tweeters, 2 3.5s, 2 6.5s, 2 6x9s and 2 4s and a 2000watt mono amp with a high excursion 15" sub. Everything was hooked to a RF 10 Farad capacitor. With that system, you didn't listen to music, you were in the music!

+LuckyRosco solid info and thank you
I have the 6 speaker with 8.4 nav but i upgraded the speakers to the mopar kickers and the thing cranks! I love it.
+tpike46w so the 8.4n and alpine are not tied to each other. Can you share what specific truck you have?
no they are not tied together, but the Alpine is not standard on the sport either. I have a 2017 sport night edition that is loaded and the only options it doesnt have are the park sensors and the Alpine stereo
I have a 20 big horn with the alpine system but my surround sound feature is grayed out and unable to be turned on. Is there a hack to turn it on?
I have a 16 Sport but I missed out on it didn’t realize his was an option until I was looking at a different model what will it run me to upgrade?
The 6x9 aren't really alpine. You've been had. The are Chrysler made speakers. I just found that out. Apparently you never took the door apart
for a stock stereo, it rocks
start making more videos haha the more you put out when you first start the more youtube will promote your videos. Thats why my channel became stagnant lol
+Gerb It it's amazing how that works. Stupid upload error this morning lol
lol i just want to see your channel do really well and right now is your time to keep it going! You have pretty good views every video!
+Gerb It Thanks man, super appreciate your support and input. Finally got rid of the error
as far as I can tell the 2017 8.4an from a Chrysler 300 is the exact same model number yet I understand the RAM software on the 2017 8.4an does not include android auto and apple car play.
+Rich Haak usb drive remains but the SD card slot was removed
Have this on my 2012 big horn shit is awesome
Steve Briggs if I’m looking to just do the dash speakers and back 6x9s what exactly should I buy? Do I also need to upgrade the amp? Thanks
Your intro music rocks! \m/
+Butch Thompson I think you might be one of the few who feel that way!
At one time, there were only a few people that thought the earth was round. They'll come around. :)
+Butch Thompson well played
Is the Alpine stereo system in the Dodge Challenger (optional) similar? I believe it's called sound group 2 if I'm not mistaken.
Where is the alpine sub located for a 2020 ram 1500?
Behind the seat backs
It is a 10 inch sub
Great video, thank you
intro music is too loud.
he was really nervous making this video lol
Your sound settings didn’t come from factory like that. They come flat.
Great review!
+Sgtjfast thank you!
Christian...very balanced video. 😉
+Orren G 🤣 I fit four into the intro, hope you enjoyed
I am so proud of you!!!
Great job buddy
+aceboogie Thanks man
What's that round thing on alpine amplifier?
SD ftw, could you use a hard drive plugged into the USB?
I've gotten it to play audio from a digital voice recorder plugged directly into the port. I think a HD might work if the file structure is simple
No SD card slot on the radio that I can see. I need to take the manual out and look.
+Matt Robin it would be next to the aux input plug and usb ports in the center console. Just trying to spare you having to read the manual, lol
I know I had to take the plastic off the manual package to look it up. It had to happen sooner or later.
My 2016 sport came with it
I picked alpine I've had Harmon kardon in my challenger and was very disappointed in it.
My 16 ram has the alpine upgrade and I am not impressed. Its not terrible but its not great so I guess I'd call it average with a C rating.
Is it stock in the sport trim as well?
If I was to buy my truck again I would get it without the center console because getting road head just isn't that nice when she has to bend over the hump...also it would be nice to cruise the backwoods with my woman by my side instead of her across the truck
I’ve been married for 10 years, so I love the center console lol!
@@joshharmon4867 regretfully he can't marry his sister in the state of Alabama legally, so he has to wait until supper is done, to go do some hot sweaty no center console backwoods fornication. Ya know a little Yeet Yeet ,skeet skeet lol
Damn bro! Save some cousins for the rest of us!?
Can the amp bs turned UP?
+METALITHrevetments Really sorry to hear that. Do you still have your stock intake?
Yes...the only mod's I've made are a 2.5" leveling kit and adjustable shocks.
+METALITHrevetments Best of luck and I'll be interested to hear the results if you'll share them.
Thank you! I will certainly post the result as soon as I hear back from the service tech.
I picked my truck up yesterday and it's fixed. The problem was as follows: "Solenoid circuit - faulty valve body". They replaced the "valve body" and ran the system through diagnostics and it runs as it should now.
Standard on SPORT as well
+MRTEE 81 Good catch, I always forget that Sport is a trim level for 1500s
PNWreckage thanks bro when u turn up the sound system it loud or does it distort when it gets loud
+mac cheese it's loud and there is minimal or no distortion as long as you're listening to a high quality file (aka NOT Sirius/XM). Highest I go is usually 22 maybe 24 out of ~30 volume settings.
+mac cheese I think it handles electronic really well. Bass hits hard for an 8" sub and the mid and high ranges are really clear.
+mac cheese I'll check him out and report
What's the amp size that comes with it
It's good for people who don't know. Speakers are really low quality. Name Alpine only.. U can't get any of these low quality speakers from Alpine.. Alpine in name alone..
ALSO ADDED FACTORY CD PLAYER SOUNDS GREAT
In previous videos you've said your name is "Pacific Northwest Wreckage" Meaning the PNW was Pacific Northwest and it was spelt reckage.
This is a wordy post so sorry about that, just walking you through my thought process.. and assuring you that I know how to spell wreckage, hahaha.
its GREAT
Out of nowhere my audio just got lower.. still plays, but noticed it got like 10 notches lower.. so may buttons on this not sure if I pressed something or is it a problem that needs to be addressed to dealership.. can anyone help??
I noticed a couple notches but not 10. Check the obvious first (is your media volume turned all the way up on your phone, etc) and then look through your audio settings to see if surround sound is checked and if speed adjusted volume is still enabled.
Power off and on and it's back to normal I found that on mine
Bought a 3500, factory radio, and cut the oem hookups. Anyone know the wiring diagram?
Should be able to look it up on the crutch field website. They have a ton of wiring diagrams.
How do order this
can you wired a 12” in where that stock sub is and pump it?
afflict you don’t need a 12, this system is equivalent to 2 12s it bumps like hell
Yes just need a loc and amp ofc
What audio recorder do you use?
It's a go pro knockoff from Amazon
Turn the mids two or three notches down
probably the same mexican who loaded it on to the train
+samus989 know the guy?
One of my best buds has a ram 2500 powerwagon, 35x12.5r17 toyo open country MT, grill guard, maxed out, awesome badass truck, one thing I don't like is the speakers, the alpine sound system, I adjusted the equalizer to what I have on my truck a 2010 ram 1500 ST the lowest of the low, (also has 35x12.5r17 mud tires) not that the tires have anything to do with it just saying lol, but my speakers in my ST are literally better than the alpine, the bass is much better and it's louder, at any volume it has all bass to it, stock too.
+T Parrish Very interesting. What year is your buddy's rig?
the usb plug kinda sucks. i dont know if its my samsung 32gb stick or its ram. itll get stuck or wont play at times..
+hmglor I didn't have any issues with my 16gb stick. Think it might be related to the capacity? I know my trail cam and faux pro can't run 32 for whatever it's worth
only for info - I tried a 128GB stick with no problems.
I HAVE THE SAME SYSTEM THE AMP POWER HOW TRUE IS THAT IS IT RMS TRUEPOWERPLEASE EMAIL ME BACK IF POSS ABOUT SYSTEM WANT TO UPGRADE IT
I heard alpine vs the new Bose systems (and against my JL system) and alpine is probably the worst brand you can get for speakers
I've read they toned them down because of the cinema aspect and if you plug in the aux cable into the center console it is much louder. I've been looking into finding away to to bypass that for bluetooth but nothing yet.
Pretty sure it’s 10 speakers
11 speaker , no one knows about the sub in the center console
Two in door pod
Its ok.... My previous vehicle was a Genesis with the Lexicon system. It was way better than this Alpine
+An Ri just out of curiosity what is the highest level volume you listen to regularly?
medium to loud. It is the midrange that is lacking in the Alpine system. Low end is strong, high end is not quite crisp but the midrange sounds are what is really weak. It needs a better up front and center speaker with a better range.
+An Ri what actual number
I would say 75% of max is average for me
Turn your mid down! Below half!,
It's fake the speakers are mopar pop out the centre speaker.
It's not 10 that's called 9.1
A few questions:
Have you played with the EQ?
Do you have the Surround Sound option selected?
What volume level/number do you listen to normally?
Is this with Bluetooth audio, FM radio, etc?
Have you/the dealer updated your UConnect software? (I noticed an equalizer update while watching the full installation Monday night)
Let me know when you have a chance, I'm trying to help.
Fake Alpine system pop the grill cover off look at the magnet made by Chrysler.
If you like the stock Alpine system (I have it in my Longhorn) then you must have never had a real, audiophile quality, sound system.
It is not impressive at all. Bass is flat. No punch at all.
