I'd look inside ur subwoofer box also if ther is no polyfill in the box it will alot harder if u stuff some polyfill in it I can't tell u how many boxes I've done that to with factory kicker sub boxes but once I stuff those things full of polyfill it totally changes the way they sound cuz it fools the sub into thinking its in a bigger box which most people assume would have the opposite effect but once u try it u'll see it'll hit harder and lower too
Thanks for metering the voice coils! The Alpine at 2.6 ohms is using more power from the amp than the Harmon at 4.3 ohms but I think the Harmon is sounding louder due to the coaxial design, same goes for aftermarket Kickers. Appreciate the video man.
Regarding ohms which measures resistance…. The less resistance a speaker has the louder it will be receiving the same amplification. The difference between the HK and the Alpine is the HK has an actual Tweeter that is producing higher frequency sound so it naturally will sound louder as a result. In your test the HK is probably a slightly better speaker at best. But they are still a subpar speaker in reality. You could likely install pretty good aftermarket speakers in that dash for less than a few hundred dollars and get much better results. These manufacturers may collaborate with Alpine, Boss, HK etc but it s only for design ideas. You will never actually find those brands of components, the same you would buy aftermarket, in any of these manufacturers vehicles.
Replaced the front three and then the front door speakers 6x9 with woofers and then bridged those two with my subs and it sounds amazing! Fade to the back and it’s perfect surround sound
Did kicker on the dash and 6x9s on the doors and damn it woke the system up, also has to throw in a 12" sub under the back seat, but huge improvement with upgraded speakers
I bought the oem kicker upgrade set. It’s meant for base model. All the speakers are 4 ohm. A alpine system is 2 ohm. You lose volume and they use hard dome tweeters in the dash. It’s too bright and tinny. I’m swapping to cdt wide bands and 6x9. They are 2 ohm.
Sounds much better.. when I installed aftermarket speakers from Crutchfield they throw in Metra factory harness adapters for free so no need to cut wires.. great video, only thing with aftermarket speakers it’s not as loud as factory
Thank you! Doing the ohm check was great. And, the kicker sub comment... I'm happy with the 8 orm10 inch woofer oem. Gotta crank it a little but it's there!
Just got mine in today after seeing your video. Sounds way louder. Gonna remove the center one though because the left and right are perfect a little overpowering with the center for my taste. Great upgrade though
The "Alpine" upgraded speakers are the same as the base speakers, there are just more of them in the Alpine system. The Beats by Dre system is the same way. The Harman Kardon is the way to go.
it also has a neo magnet on the 2-way speaker vs the larger magnet paper cone speakers the neodymium magnets are way more efficient with power and can handle well
Speakers with a lower resistance will be more efficient for the amplifier to power. Thus, the Alpines are getting more power from the amp. The HK speakers are just designed better in this case. Good find!
I did the Mopar Kicker 2 way dash speakers and front door speaker kit. Plug and play. (They have factory plugs) Then jbl 2 way rear door speakers with adapters. Then the 8 inch Pioneer 2 ohm sub with adapter wires. Sounds way better than the alpine speakers. Then plug in a CD player and it’s even better than MP3 sound by far. 😮
Depends what your plan is if leaving basically stock then yes that is good but if wanting to build a stereo then no. You can get an Pac AmpPro AP4-CH41 to run separate amps to power your speakers. I'm using the factory amp to power my 3 dash and 2 roof speakers(Infiniti Ref-3032cfx) which you can get adapters to plug and play so no cutting then I'm using 2 separate amps for the door speakers(1 for front and 1 for rear) which are powering 4 Infiniti Ref-9633ix. Then of course subs for bass.
@@teamfreddy5945 sorry I misspoke partly, yes the center is an REF3032, but I forgot they didn't sound good in the roof because of the factory crossovers and were bigger than what I wanted to cut out of the factory plastic opening so I put Kicker KSC270 in the roof. They are 2.75" single driver speakers that run from 300-20k mhz...
@@pimpedstratus Excellent! I will take a look at those. Id imagine anything is better than OEM HK but will play with the config.. I really only want more Bass but then go down rabbit holes of redoing everything. 🫣
@@teamfreddy5945 that was my original plan , just more Bass but after getting the PAC AP4 and already having spare amps I happened to find an amp wall for behind the back seat so I said screw it and did it all.
Dropping some nostalgic speaker brands. I remember when they were in the doors and kickplates. 4 speakers max unless you had the Laramie then you got tweeters in the A pillar. lol I know "Boomer" hahaha What's in the doors? I know that they were 6.5" Those look like 3" depends on the speaker itself. the range of the dual with tweeter (coaxial) is considered a full range speaker. So it'll fill in the mid feqs and give it some more depth and volume as well.
To get the kicker speakers in there, you do not have to cut the connections. Doing that is not very smart. There are adaptors you can get that will go from your stock connection to aftermarket connection. Crutchfield and any other reputable audio store will sell these connections. In my 2020 Bighorn I used a loop back harness, which uses the factory wiring that is already in place. Door speakers are now 6.5” pro audio speakers, the dash speakers are now horn tweeters, have an LC4.800 handling the doors and dash. The output from the LC4.800 going to SKAR audio 800.1 for the subs. The door speakers and the horns all have the adaptors and I cut into 0 wires in the wiring harness for the truck.
do we have a similar option for the doors/roof speakers ?? I scored a 9 speaker set off ebay from a chrysler 300. changed out the 3 dash speakers to the HK. leaves me with a few extra 3.5" but what a difference!!!!! they don't seem to make much difference in the rear ceiling so I left the stock ones there. may see if I can mount one in each rear pillar or by the backseat headrest somewhere. part of the set of 9 was also two HK 6x9, they sound only marginally better than the stock alpines in the doors which seem to be a polypropylene vs the HK being paper cones but they weren't a huge improvement like the dash speakers. being plug and play, this was the easiest speaker upgrade I've ever done. note: that 7mm bolt closest to the windshield on the center speaker was a B!*ch! lol
Heck yeah that’s awesome glad you found it to make a huge difference on the 3 dash speakers too! Like I was saying the video doesn’t do it justice. I haven’t messed with any other speakers yet
Do I need to have an amp to hear a difference if I were to buy the Harman Kardons? Thinking about putting them in my Express, don’t think mine comes with an amp from the factory though
those factory kicker subs are kinda weak and aren't the same as their L series subs. my 06 SRT Charger came with one. i used a 3/4 inch spacer for magnet clearance room and put a real kicker L10 in the factory box. hooked that to an amp and it hits like an aftermarket sub setup but still looks stock.
Wonder how much it will help with a non amp’d system. I did the 8.4 swap in my trademans 2500 with the infotainment swap kit, curious if the H&K speakers are worth the swap since I’m not running the factory amp…
On a coaxial design to test ohm, both speakers need to be tested at the same time, The video it's hard to tell because you didn't use the factory pins.
Older generation Dodges that had Infinity speakers had unique plugs etc, so if you needed to replace a speaker you had to cut the connectors off and splice in or fully rewire it.
Duuudeee i need these. Im getting so tired of it being not that loud at like max. Also is there a better upgrade for the stock sub with the factory plug and whatnot. Ive seen some videos of like a kicker but they say its not any louder
its louder atleast it was for me especially after I put a kicker powered subwoofer under the backseat but the harmon's with the neodymium magnets on the dash are more crystal clearer also if u use a kicker sub stuff the box with polyfill and it'll make a night and day difference on the kicker sub and will hit harder and lower
I have a question, if anyone could answer that would be awesome. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and wanted to upgrade my uconnect to the navigation one. Will my truck be able to do that ? Also Will these speakers fit in a 2014 Ram 1500?
Tried this out on my Limited. Definitely louder, but it's really unbalanced now. Way too bright no matter what adjustments you try to make. Going back to the stock speakers for now.
2.5 ohms vs 4.5 ohms your loading the amp harder with the 2.5 speakers more sound (4.5 speakers) is prolly because the 4.5 speakers are more efficient at 1 watt/ 1 meter (how they measure efficiency)
Changing the speakers in a branded OEM audio system will affect the system tuning. The DSP in the system amplifier (located under your front seat) will be tuned to equalize the system for the most balanced sound using the speakers you removed. You may hear louder sound from different speakers installed in the same locations, but the balance of the original system will be lost. There may be frequency response peaks in the new speaker that will not be addressed by the equalization that was designed for the original speaker, so you might hear subjectively louder sound, but it may also be more aggressive and "harsh", or worse, even muddy. You are not likely "correcting" anything by swapping components except increasing subjective loudness at a certain volume setting, and more likely introducing new frequency response issues to the system that will be uncorrected.
While you’re absolutely correct, in this case there is virtually no balance with the factory RAM alpine system. There is no sound stage. It’s a true mess and sounds pretty poor.
I swapped to these on my 2016 standard six speaker system without the factory amp and ugh… they are louder, but that’s all you can say… zero low frequencies from the dash speakers now.. sounds HORRIBLE…. I ordered a set of Infinity 3032cfx on sale on Amazon for $45 to replace them. It’s only going to be a few days till they arrive but I will be suffering until then, lol.. these things sound awful.. loud but AWFUL
There an 8 ohm speaker instead of a 4 ohm..and the 8 ohm sound better unless you like overpowering high range too cut threw overpowering bass..if you want to upgrade speakers but keep the sound balancing harmen set up in the vehicle just put an inline resistor to take the 4 ohms to 8..my problem is the harmen head unit filters out allot of frequencies to make the cheap speakers sound clear, and so expensive speakers are kinda worthless without replacing the head unit so a 200 dollar per set of speakers is all the money id spend on upgrades for the truck without replacing the head unit..owning the truck and having top end stereo systems previous I can clearly hear the missing sounds in songs ive heard millions of times threw a top end system..and i dont wanna spend 1800 dollars on a head unit soooooo kenwood excelrons is all the speaker i put in the ram
