      As the all-time healer in every games (BF2, Planetside 2, diverse MMO, TTRPGs, you name it), it is always like that... You have to become the one who kill the bastard that hurt your firends, then heal your friends that will maybe say a little thanks before they're killed again not even a minute after. x)

    Healing and resupply should be calculated into some sort of 'Support Score' for display on the scoreboard. As you mentioned, you can be doing a great job as support, but the numbers make it look like you're dead weight!

    • @Badger3X
      @Badger3X 4 года назад +6

      Honestly, I haven't played much rank, but in the games I do play I'm typically first or second on the scoreboard. You get points for shielding and resupplying, so if you're dedicated support you'll still get a decent score and with the right setup can get some decent kills and assists. I am slowly watching myself get better and better, especially if you have comms and can stick to a bomber/fighter

  • @evilcoleslaw

    I'm running a light fighter build that's focused on speed. It winds up nearly as fast as an Interceptor but much more durable. Light hull, thrust engines. On X-Wing I'm also running the resonant shield to allow overcharge of all subsystems at least at the opening of engagements.

    Just a note on your section about countermeasures; the multi-lock missiles available to the bomber classes are the ones that lock on to 4 separate targets and fire only 1 missile at each target. You're talking about the Cluster Missiles, which is exclusively available to the interceptor class. Cluster Missiles will lock onto the same target up to 4 times and fire up to 4 missiles at the same target.
    Another note on this, if they are right behind you when they fire a cluster of missiles at you, the missiles actually spread out in 4 different directions before they start tracking you, so if you wanna make the particle burst work on all of them you really have to have some speed and straighten them out, which lines you up to get shredded by the interceptors laser cannon. Getting used to evading missiles is the best skill you can have. With the Cluster-missile meta (and just the meta of playing against coordinated teams who will try to focus fire you), a combination of evading and using counter-measures is really gonna be required to play at the higher levels.
    I do think at higher levels and with more experienced players, particle burst is a better choice and has a much higher skill-cap. But straightening out and using it to counter a cluster of 4 missiles is a situational tactic. If you've got an interceptor on you, flying straight is generally not going to be a good move. If you instead shove your power into your engines and start flying evasively, you can evade some of the missiles and the incoming laser-cannon fire. It will take experience to know when to fire the particle burst in these situations, but if you manage to get out of the interceptor's guns temporarily, you can straighten out and pop a burst to clean the rest of the missiles off of you once they are really close behind you. Just try to continue making evasive moves towards either cover or one of your capital ships, because an interceptor can't take too many turbo laser shots. And with cover to be juking around, missiles are much less effective. This may seem obvious, but there's a lot of newbies out there!
    Keep up the great content!

    ION on support can be useful to quickly save your friends from anyone chasing them to base.
    You resupply your friend, and drop a quick burst on whoever chase them.
    It's not like you are going to do much with laser canons anyway, so a weapon that disable enemies quickly seems pretty good to me for support.
    Also useful to protect your capital ships from bombers.

    I find it interesting that the lock on cone for tactical shields is larger then your view on a flatscreen. In VR, I'm actually able to turn my head to see what I'm targeting most of the time. I wonder if that's why I feel I have just an advantage in VR.

    I have two support build that I like to use: one for healing and protecting allies, and one for defending objectives. The latter is where the ion cannon is more useful I think, and the tractor beam is perfect for it. You can hold someone in place when they are attacking your capitol ship and watch the turrets go to work.

    • @EcksToo

      The beacon marker component for Support will have your capital ship or frigates target the enemy you mark, deal 30% more damage & prevent the enemy from using countermeasures. Might be more effective than the Tractor Beam.

    Lately, I find myself running support on the "home" side of the playfield with mines and tac shields, but I switch out the mines for supply droids when attacking the opposing side. I use reinforced hull and fortified deflector for lots of hit point depth and make up for some of the loss in movement stats with a propulsion engine. It's a hardy build, but the weak maneuverability means planning ahead and good positioning are absolutely critical to make it work well.

    The A-wing is a beast. I run it with rockets, and repair with standard lasers, hull, engines, and chaff. Sometimes I sub out repair for a quick-lock missile. It's maneuverability and lasers can take out any ship (it's a bit time consuming to take out a TIE Reaper though) and with the rockets you can deal a ton of damage to capital ships.

    I’m currently loving an ion based support ship (Ion cannons and Torpedo with resupply droid) and also with the SLAM engines and Resonant shield. With some careful power management, you can go into battle with all your systems fully overcharged and absolutely shred shields and subsystems from the enemy.

    I play support a lot but I'm kind of partial to the resonant shields, the rapid laser recharge is a nice bonus for when you have a few seconds to heal in the midst of a battle, but I honestly use it mainly for the fact that there is no shield decay when overcharging, allowing you to simply max out shields as soon as you spawn in and have the extra health

  • @tsarfox3462
    @tsarfox3462 3 года назад

    I run the TIE Defender with APS, rockets, agile hull, chaff, fortified deflector, and standard ion engines.
    Managing your power is ESSENTIAL but, the defender charges boost and lasers insanely quickly once you route power to them. So you wanna keep those shields charged up since your hull is basically made of tissue paper held together by spit. Lasers are sufficient for any anti-fighter duty and rockets make you a capital ship killer. Keep those shields up with proper power management/APS and you're a tank. Combine that with the agility boosts and you have a terrifyingly efficient killing machine.
    The main things to watch out for are A-wings, B-wings, and all ion munitions. A-wings easily outmaneuver you so avoid them at all costs, NEVER engage a B-wing head on because it will shred your shields with its ion cannon; hit them from the sides or from behind, and ion munitions will kill your shield which is the only thing between you and a fiery death.

    I fly support for my squadron. I enjoy using the ion cannon, supply droid, ion missile, and slam engine. I like this load out because when I can reach my allies with a boost from the slam engine while overcharging my shields, and when no ally is in danger, I can target an enemy player, disable them with ion, ping them, and let my squadron do the rest. This load out does seem really good, and you are a lot better than me at support so I will use this as a secondary load out. Also I did not realize seeker warheads could only target two missiles. Thanks!

When I first heard of the game, I wanted to fly interceptor, but nobody else was willing to fly support, and we already had two bombers, one interceptor, and one player who would play based on the situation. Me going as any other class would not have contributed to my team very much. Keep it up Eckstoo!

  • @scottdean2199
    @scottdean2199 4 года назад

    I usually run bomber with rotary, multi-lock, beam, seeker, standard hull/shields, and SLAM engine. I find the rotary allows me to pour some dense DPS down on both capital ships and fighters, the multi-lock missiles are great for farming AI fighters for morale as you transit, the particle beam allows for a major amount of damage up close (as opposed to torpedoes that are so slow they get shot down a lot doing nothing while nerfing your cannon damage or putting you in a dangerous position on capital ships). I use the Seeker countermeasures because I do twist and turn a lot - especially when defending, though I'm still trying to decide if it is better for my playstyle than Particle Burst. SLAM is awesome. Always having that escape available is key, especially when combined with micro-sliding through terrain.
    One thing about ion cannons - they are good for disabling starfighters. Nothing pisses me off more than getting hit by an ion missile or disabled by a support with ion cannons - especially in a Republic craft since it also eliminates the overcharged shields I invariably had up.
    My secondary class is support. I'm still working on doing more than flipping through friendly targets to provide heals and fortifying bombers on their runs. SLAM makes it easy to get across to far-away team members, particularly when team members are defending both frigates/cruisers.

    Offensive support; targeting beacons and either seeker mines or ion missiles depending on the enemy comp. Standard lasers, deflector hull, reinforced shields and slam booster. Overload shields on spawn and fly it like a heavy fighter, offers less utility than most support builds, but can gun down anything shy of a bomber solo.

    Tie fighter: tanky/manoeverably build. NEED TO DRIFT WELL!
    1) standard laser cannon
    2) concussion missile
    3) repair kit
    4) seeker warheads
    5) reinforced hull (2.5k health)
    6) Microthrust engine
    Standard laser cannon is IMHO best in terms of consistenly bringing the pain. Reinforced hull tops you off at insane health. The repair kit heals you for 50% of max health. Higher the health means bigger the heal.
    Your manoeverability is not that bad. A bit above a standard tie fighter. (84 i think from memory?).
    They key to this build is playstyle: ALWAYS max out your engine power. Keep that boost recharging and ready to go. Learn how to drift like a madman and utilise that boost to move quickly around the map. Once you've got a shot lined up --> convert power to lasers and blast away. Boost will start recharging and you've got a nearly fully overcharged laser with a big clip ready to go. You will have very good manoeverability, speed (through boost) and instant overcharged lasers whenever you need it. This is by far my fav build so far.
    "Drawbacks": need to learn how to drift very well and make sure you've got good hotkeys for power conversion. It doesn't work without those two.

    Fighter class with Ion Torpedo and proton torpedo's or bomber with multi missiles and proton torpedos (I hate bombs or don't know how to use them properly). Support supply droid and tactical shield or target beacons. Like the slam engines
    My biggest complaint the turn time while drifting is too slow.

    Ion cannons for guns is the best choice to support your team. You arent there to kill, but disable and support your team

    If you have good aim, use ion with the dumb fire rockets. Disabling them, then smacking them with 3 rockets is a good combo

    Thanks a lot for this guide!
    I think the problem with support sadly is that it doesn’t reward you enough points wise.
    If you stay truly defensive like this, you get few kills, subsystems and damage.
    One kill is 100 points. I regularly get 15+ kills in fighters or intercepors.
    To get this in a support is just impossible. Even if you support plus go ham.
    Your abilities should just provide more points than 20 per resupply!

    I find it funny how I’m a great offense player as the support class (specifically U-wing), I got 11 player kills and 2 deaths.

    multi-missile can't send more than one missile per target, that's cluster missile which is on interceptors instead of bombers

    I think it is a bit misleading to say there is a best loadout for every class. I use three loadouts every game with my support ship for different scenarios and, while I do have one loadout I use most of a match, the other two fit their circumstances a lot better than my main loadout.

    • @mdhalbrook
      @mdhalbrook 4 года назад

      But not everyone is going to have multiple load outs, I have 2 on republic, but just the one Imp still.

  • @zero5496

    I actually think ace pilot players should play support, since the skill of a good support can turn any match into their teams favor, let alone the fact the two support ship are decent in dogfighting, just need a bit of multitasking, I babysit my girlfriend throughout the matches with my support ship and still kicking ass with 20+ kills, and women say man can’t multitask, what a joke
