    The torpedoes still fly and do hit after the ship launched it is destroyed. I did a suicide run on an ISD shield generator , launched a torpedo and die. In the kill cam I can see the torpedo flew past my wreckage and destroyed the shield generator. (I received the kill feed after my ship was blown up)

      Only really helps when you're coordinating with the rest of your team effectively. If you're playing solo with randoms it's of very limited value

    Capital ships will never shoot at torpedoes, they will only hit accidently when shooting at the player.

      This statement is not(no longer perhaps) true. the cannons will fire at torpedoes evin if there is no player present, it is a low chance however.

    The ion torpedo imo makes the Support class _way_ more viable. As helpful as the deployable shield is, it helps to carry your Bomber teammates even more and take out enemy shields for their run.
    Plus it just, feels satisfying. You feel way more useful, like a mini blockade runner. U-wings are _gunships_ too, am I right?

    I feel like they should change the republic's flagship to an MC80 instead of the MC75. The MC75's subsystems are too hard to defend, especially the power system

      Gotta agree, the mc75 design just isn't as effective as the star destroyer in fleet battles. The subsystems are too exposed and separated from the body of the ship, giving far too many red zones for bombers to just float in and lay down as much damage as possible. Give it better shields since the firepower is less significant, or give us the mc80

      @@shadowflux894 Same, couldn't agree more. Wonder why they chose the MC75 instead. To get to the shield generators on a star destroyer is pretty much a one way trip, IF you make it past the guns/ fighters. With the MC75 I can proton torpedo, barrage missile a generator and get like 2-3 passes in before i'm killed lol.

    I think fighters are the most underused ships in this game. You can give them more manoeuvrability than an interceptor while remaining tanker and you can support attacks on capital ships keeping up with bombers. I think the rebel alliance has a slight loadout advantage since you can survive quite well without a repair kit but the Tie Fighter with ion missiles can chew through enemy fighters quite well and still cause damage to shields and subsystems of capital ships.

      Agreed. I fly with concussion missles and ions no matter if I'm flying an xwing or tie.

      @@Lucardini Well, not exactly supreme. You still generally suffer from lower DPS and the interceptor is stealthier due to the options you can kit it out with. But I prefer them to interceptors. My tie fighter does 150 speed and has 116 manouverability and 980 hit points iirc.

      If you build the interceptor for maneuverability as well, then the fighter has nowhere near the maneuverability, Just to say a fighter doesn't replace an interceptor in any situation.

      @@fergrim420 you don't have the same options on the interceptor. Unless the latest patches changed things up (haven't played this game in a month and a half), you cannot have an interceptor as manouverable as a fighter. The engine and hull choices in the fighter are better for that. You do get a boost in DPS and you can stealth better.

    I started using ion torpedoes but its hard getting it done solo, coordination is key, the way I’ve been seeing Twin suns run it is impressive.
    Either my team doesn’t know what’s going on, or I’m playing AI fleet battle and my Ai are a bunch of droolers going against Aces.

    Definitely been loving running torpedoes on my x-wing. Slipstream hull makes it handle more like an interceptor, conversion shield gives you a bigger margin for error to escape if you take too much fire on your attack run.

    In case you don’t know, two Ion rockets are usually enough to kill a frigate or corvette shield & is still extremely useful against enemy bombers and fighters. So two fighters with ion rockets can melt shields in seconds. They do an incredible 9 k of ion damage with one hit.

    I've been running ion and torps since I could. Really great on taking out subsystems and frigates. You can also equip a support as an ion carry... Drop the load and swap ship.

    In X-Wing Alliance, all enemy AI capital ships will target incoming projectiles, even if they are not shooting at the ship that launched it. It made attack runs in that game require a lot more coordination and team work, and usually a hit-and-run attack or two to knock out point-denfense weapons.
    In this game it is was more dumbed down and easier to take out capital ships if you properly use your heavy munitions.

    Didn’t know what to expect, but when Eck whipped out the dual torps I was really happy. Been doing that for a little while, it’s really effective as long as you can resupply quickly

    What about a sniper build using both torpedos, the guided burst cannon, the micro thrust engine, and reflects hull? That could be the ultimate camp and obliterate loadout for this game

    I’ve noticed that sometimes the torps will get targeted and shot down by the capital ships if there is not a fighter within range. What I’ve noticed is that there’s a break in the fire after reaching about 600 meters away from the capital ship. That’s when I fire. It’s great for knocking out shields on the capital ships before the first dogfight is even over. Getting close 600 meters is very dangerous tho so you have to be able to launch the torp and get out.

    Ion and Proton torpedos is a strat I discovered early on and use a lot. It's been very successful for me and you can indeed launch them and then die and still land a hit after you die.

    You're giving away my strat!!! I've been doing this a few days after launch and I swear I'm the only one on my team to actively target torpedoes.
    I'm so pissed when I'm expecting shields to drop and they don't because the torpedo was targeted.

    Thank you so much! I am a bomber main unit even with an improved engine, they are hard to maneuver and are still pretty slow. I will definitely be trying these torpedoes out; I like being a fighter and interceptor however I feel useless as I do not do much damage. Also, I have trouble locking in to targets, instead of locking in to a corvette or raider in front of me, it locks onto some random fighter, any tips? Great video :)

    I've been using ion missile on my fighters to take out cap ship shields because I'll get there before the bombers will. can also dumbfire them unlike the torpedoes.
    I also briefly experimented with a torpedo bomber support, but I'm a much better headhunter so I think I'll stick to my 15+ pilot kills per game.

    I mostly run bombers and support ships but I definitely take ion torpedoes on support. Often I stick with ion cannons as well specifically to strafe captial ship shields. Combine that with the resupply drones and a SLAM engine you get a zoom and boom support ship that helps more than passively. Bombers usually get the multilock missiles for turret and fighter clearance as well as proton torpedoes. I've used the same loadout on fighters but prefer the ion missile there as it's more versatile and you have a higher potential damage output, allbeit over a longer period of time. Plus it's funny when you hit a player with one and they go ballistic into their own capital ship :)

    I always load out with support ion torpedo because it strips shields instantly. Only problem is my team doesn’t follow up with an attack on the ships so we end up losing in a flash. Fleet battles should not be ranked, dogfight should.

    I see you slowing down and launching missiles from a distance and looping back, this is a good tactic. You could make the missiles impact faster (more importantly lower the risk of it getting shot down) by stopping at the 1500 mark for a second, slow down to like 10 maybe, right before you launch the missile speed boost, then launch, then shut it off. The speed you launch a missile at carries over to the final speed, so it pays off to have them moving fast. You could get this down and power slide once you stop boost, you'd be able to stay shy of 1000m from the ship.

    This is a good strategy if no one wants to go bomber. But I believe you can do a lot more damage faster with bombers and an escort wing which also keep morale high.
    As for the being able to do damage whilst on defence, it's a really good idea, something I was thinking of trying but wasn't sure if I could reach. I can also see a patch or something that stops damage on defence.

    I like running a "classic" Y-Wing build with the ion turret and proton torpedoes.
    It's a good mix of safe damage and crowd control, I find, but it lacks the ability to punch the shield off of things.
    Good for taking advantage of a downed shield or spamming at frigates until someone comes after you.
    It would be nice if the Y-Wing could actually field all the artillery in the fleet and double up on torpedoes. Not sure why the X-Wing can do that but maybe that'll change in a patch

    my strat usually is run A wing to provide support for team and keep the enemy squad off their backs. then when it comes time to push the frigates and capital ships i'll switch over to Xwing kitted with ion torpedoes and burst fire lasers with a shield modifier that charges weapons at the cost of 25% less shield strength. i'll charge my engines, then charge shields, focus on either shields or targeting array subsystems, launching torpedoes from a far while shields are up, then boosting in while shields are down, diverting power to forward shields and weighing into the sub system with super charged lasers until I start taking fire and bug out. it's a fun strat for my because I don't play as bombers and support much atm. so I feel like i'm still contributing to the team with my fighters.

    I love the bombers, I started out with the tie interceptor until I had enough upgrade tokens to unlock all the bomber upgrades thinking it would be trash but I place 1st most rounds with that thing now, became my main ship

      Everyone loves bombers. Even in dogfights it's not uncommon for a team to run 4 or 5 bombers. Needs a pretty big nerf.

    Whoa. Tried this out with a TIE fighter and I think I just had my best game yet. We had a good support player giving us shields, and we were on Yavin so I could just fly in the clouds, and I destroyed both of their frigates and their capital ship nearly singlehandedly and we only were on defense once. Dealt something like 34400 Cap ship damage.

    Also Ecks, you could try using the torpedoes with the Targeting Jammer. If you use the jammer at 3000m, AI capital ships won't fire at you and your torpedo is more likely to get through. (3000m is when capital ships start locking on to you and shooting, hit the jammer before then). I don't remember if fighters can mount it though.

    I've use them but never realized how much shield damage they really do. In general torpedoes are the way to go. A full ion bomb run sometimes doesn't take the shield out and proton bombs are a joke for the damage they do when you consider you're almost guaranteed to die.

    I’ve been wondering when this load out would go mainstream. I’ve been running it with my buddy for a few days now to good effect. Trouble is, as soon as people realize how important torps are, they will be shooting them down. I always shoot down torps when I see them - it’s very easy to do and the ion torp is particularly visible.

    I've used the ion torpedo against the two cruisers, and found out they just knock the hell out of the shields. Then switch to a craft to the giant missile that knocks all the turrets out. Its a sound strategy so far. I forgot what that missile is called. I dont usually use proton torpedoes though.

    This brings me back to both DOS X-Wing (in the X-Wing Torpedo sense) and Rogue One (in the Ion Torpedoes OP) sense.
    I'll have to look at the Y-Wing and later B-Wing to see how they can be adapted for similar strategies. In DOS X-Wing, torpedoes were their primary methods of attack, and weren't unusable in the agility department. I wonder if I can modify their loadouts to make them more feasible? I just bought the game and will experiment. :P

    The video needs editing, some information is not correct anymore.
    Just tested ion torpedoes, here is what I found:
    - they do not take out half the capital ship shield. A quarter at most.
    - they do not take out a whole frigate shield, half, at most.
    - they do take out a raider/corvet shield
    - they do destroy the power subsystem in one hit (which is pretty awesome)
    - they do not destroy other subsystems, only disables them.

    I use ion missiles and rocket or goliath against raider since they can be dummy fired and goliath destroys a lot of turrets. Capital ship I do use torpedoes. If you die the torpedoes stay active a far as I know, unless it just doesn't do damage. I killed ships and shot down their missiles afterwards. It just the torpedoes usually incidentally get destroyed depending on direction of fire, if person is chasing you, good change weapon just missing you or through wreckage will destroy torpedo.

    This combination is as good as the team you are playing with. I always try to play strategy but get matched with people that do not understand the mechanics of the game. That is why I never went back to Fleet battles (ranked). I only play dogfights

    I run a bomber class with 2 torpedos the piercing and the other one. I shoot my 2 torpedos then run into the ships shields and shoot the subsystem, while transferring all power to weapons, I may die but I usually get the target destroyed and do substantial damage

    I find just going bomber with a rotary gun and a slam engine with reinforced hull makes you super tanky! You can even swap out your mods for more ship to ship based fighting and still do well

    I wish I had a team that I could communicate with. I've tried playing Fleet Battles alone and... it's just been me getting my teeth kicked in. This loadout would help a little but man not having a team.... it just kills any desire to play that game type.

    An underused combo is the Goliath missile + Laser Cannon
    Is very effective against Corvettes and the Goliath deals massive damage to fighters and ships alongside, if used very closed to the other pilot can damage it even if he used counter measure

      I love this combo - was the first one I went with while playing. I'm still trying out new combos tho, my fav for right now is the missiles that target up to 4 enemies and the proton missile. My ending fighter kill count at the end is usually crazy high while also having really decent cap ship damage. On the Y wing it makes you a really formidable killing machine to everything. Most of my deaths don't even come from other players, usually cap ships end up taking me out.

    Tie bomber fully loaded with ion torpedoes and going at max speed with laser power fully diverted to engines then launch full spread at capital ship without locking unto it since it is usually just sitting there and hard to miss. If you lock unto capital ship during the attack run they will detect you and start firing your way and might hit the torpedoes.

    I will say, it’s tricky but double equipping bombs and then rapidly dropping them can kill a sub system in one pass. It’s hard to pull off sometimes but the damage can be very impressive.

    Does anyone have any tips to stay alive effectively? I already use the ion missiles, but I use the repair ability for my other slot. I would like to use the strategy in the video but I feel that I rely on the repair function too much

    I pretty much exclusively play dogfight mode, but I still rely on ion weapons. If I fly fighters/interceptors, I always use ion missiles. My main ship is the Y-Wing in dog fights. I arm myself with the auto fire ion canon and let it disable my attackers. It keeps them off me long enough to charge my shields back up and possibly kill them while they are disabled. If not, it's an easy kill for a teammate.

      I tried ion cannon auto-fire and could never tell how effective it was. Curious on your thoughts there

      @@davidfinney6211 I think there was an update or there's a glitch, because it is not working like it was in the first week. It used to blast constantly in every direction at anybody who was targeting me. Now I can't tell if it works most of the time.

    Your torpedoes disintegrate en route if you get destroyed.
    @EcksToo Again I identified Torpedoes as awesome as well and tried to pitch them to my team with not a lot of success. This video will help!
    One important thing: I think it should not be possible to switch ships mid-round. This kind of defeats the purpose of careful planning when you can just switch to 5xbombers on offense and 5xinterceptors or similar on defense.
    Its like switching your hero mid-match in League Of Legends...
    However, it might be a good idea to allow switching between SHIP loadouts mid-mission.

    Ion Missile and Rockets are the way to go. Use it every game and always carries the team. I used to use both Ion & Proton Torpedos but it's too slow and gets shot down way too easily.

    and that is why I suspect chaff particles will be soon the go-to choice for countermeasures. Just pop a cloud of these in the way of the ion missile and this strat is canceled.

    You can suacide cap ships with torpedo they dont get destroyed when you die

    I love using the Ion Torpedo on the U-Wing. It holds 3, instead of the fighter's one

      Also, Proton Torpedo has 2 uses on an X-Wing, and a Y-Wing holds 5. I use this instead of bombs

    I am fairly certain that if you destroy the shield generators on the capital ships, they can no longer get shields back in squadrons. Can someone confirm this for me or if the defending team does well enough and pushes the attackers back does the defending capital ship regain shields?
    PS: I understand that in universe it would not, I am asking about Star Wars Squadron game mechanics specifically

    They should probably make those missile destroyable with player laser fire, because it sounds like mass ion spam would alpha strike frigates and capital subsystems with very little risk.

      @@EcksToo ah ok, that makes a lot of sense. Do support-placed turrets shoot them? Because if you volley fired them all at once you could easily overwhelm anyone trying to take them down.

    What does the Power System on the capital ships actually do?

      Destroying the power system causes weak points to appear on the flagship hull that can be shot or bombed for massive hull damage.
