You can get the biggest shiniest gun by killing Elder Maxson. And if you side with the Institute, you can also get his Power Armor. Aaand as if that wasn't enough you can get a full set of X-01 Power Armor once you reach level 30-ish. All you have to do is kill a Sentry Bot and an Assaultron at 35 Court. You don't need to be allied to any faction. You don't need to pick any locks. You don't need to complete any quests. Just go there and grab it.

The enclave were worst than the BoS. Enclave planned to kill ALL mutated or radiated life(that also means ghouls too), innocent or not, by spreading Modified FEV in the water supply and spreading it through the air.
BoS strongly believes to not kill innocents. They only kill Mutants and ghouls if hostile.

Hate me or not but I think Paladin danse is the best written character in fallout 4. Blind betrayal voicelines themselves are beautiful. Not to mention the unfinished portion where danse becomes ther leader of the BOS theres a mod that makes it an option, recorded voice lines and everything. i feel like he'd make the brotherhood better back to helping the people and less about serving themselves. they really should have kept the option of danse taking over the BOS an option.

while danse is very well written I think Nick has him beat, now granted nick has like a third of a DLC thats based on his relationship with DiMA, but Danse is second best.
I don't agree with that idea, a synth cannot be an elder, much less "you", not can become an elder with the help of the synth danse, taking command by force, that is a betrayal of the brotherhood of steel, The people who like this mod are the ones who like to do the yes-man ending in falloutNV, they believe they have moral superiority by taking power, they think that their decisions are the fairest, the most correct when in reality you are just another megalomaniac who can be even worse than maxson.
In this case, in fallout4, such a scenario will be a victory for the institute, which cannot be if you are a true member of the BOS.

Fallout 2 had a vault full of sentient Deathclaws who got wiped out by Frank Horrigan of the Enclave. Also had an intelligent albino deathclaw companion.

Mmmm you can find the deathclaws in vault 13, the Khans are at vault 15.
When I fought the new khans I had power armor i think which meant they really couldn't do much. The BOS quest to steal the Vertabird plans will give access to there bunker which has power armor. You may need a decent amount of intelligence or speech to complete the quest peacefully.
I always begun by investing in small guns,speech and lockpicking to 60% then slowly built up my science skill and lastly unarmed and energy weapons.

they shouldn't. You go from a Knight, a very low rank to Paladin, a very high rank. There are a LOT of Knight-Captains, like Kade or the one with the key to Teagan's cage thing. Yet the Sole Survivor, a measly Knight, ovtains the rank of Paladin just for eliminating a 'rogue' Paladin. It's so stupid
With the destruction of the Institute, I understand why Maxson promotes you to sentinel, it was you that planted the charge on the reactor, it was you that entered the Institute and retrieve Madison Li, it was you that won the war, simply by following commands. A Brotherhood idol.

I regret mentioning Quinlan’s terminal entry about the “best human specimen” because it has proved to be a distraction. Viewers are quick to mention Godwin’s Law while ignoring the rest of a 30 minute video. I never mentioned the Nazis in this video, because I agree that the BoS do not compare to them. Instead I pointed out how similar the BoS’ view of the “perfect human specimen” is to the idea of the “perfect Aryan race”, used by those who believe in a Master Race. Many throughout history have believed in a Master Race besides the Nazis. The only ones bringing the Nazis into this discussion are other viewers. I criticize the BoS and their belief in Human Exceptionalism, in this fake fantasy world, because elevating one race/species/group above another due to their inherent “betterness” paves the way for all sorts of atrocities. We’ve learned this with human history, and we see it in action with the BoS. Yes, most super mutants, ghouls, and synths are worth destroying. But we must recognize that some do not. If we obliterate all for the sake of a Master Race ideology, we are killing innocents, which is evil.

That is mentioning the Nazis. Yes, some other's believed in the "master race" but the concept in and of itself is NOT "evil". It is only "evil" *because* of its association with Nazism and their genocides. You know that is exactly what you did.
*::Edit::* to address everything you wrote: The term "Aryan Race" originated as a completely benign classification for people of a certain ancestry. But you don't use it as such - you use it in the way that the Nazism believed and popularized it to be.
Thinking that exceptionalism or inherent "betterness" - "paves the way for all sorts of atrocities" is a horrible slippery slope fallacy. Objectively - some races in Fallout 4 *are* better, they *are* exceptional. Super Mutants are strong - but profoundly stupid. Ghouls are ugly - but near immortal. Synths can have tremendous strength, intelligence, but they are bound and controlled by the institute in the end. Recognizing that some races are superior in some way does then not entail that you wish for atrocities - it is simply recognizing reality (well, "reality" of the game world).
"We learn this with human history" - we learn what happens when it gets out of control. But we don't then shun reality simply because some people did things we think are horrible. We should always try to be rational and accept reality. We don't shrug off any and all concepts of equality because communists murdered hundreds of millions, we don't stop recognizing the reality of race simply because people committed genocide based on race. That is essential "purity spiraling" for the people that are moderates.

Ouch... but I'd already come to pretty much the same conclusion regarding the BoS. Saying that, my first play through I was overmuch eager to join up with the BoS and mostly because of my time in New Vegas and Fallout 3. BoS originated from the Armed forces and both my character (and myself) being prior service I (we) thought, "how fun. This is basically the Army of the future so... why not?"
Why not indeed. Following about with Paladin Danse, then him following me, I listened to what he had to say and his reactions to my interactions with others. Yeah yeah, I'm one of those that tends to play 'the good guy...' but only the first few times through. Its difficult, even in a game, for me to be a cruel pr**t, but once I learn whats going on, I can manage it and even come up with a logical reason (to me) as to why I'm serving the greater good.
I got along well with most of the brotherhood, though Proctor Teagan's mission for me to 'procure harvests from the locals by any means necessary' put me right off. Who did this pretentious ape think he was? While I got along well with Haylen (and **SPOILER** really hated having to kill her later on - oh well, make a synth and thanks for covering that mod), she was one of the few. As I began talking with the others aboard the Prydwyn and bringing some of companions along, I began to see what they were about. By this time I had already found the Railroad (was my first time through and I kept myself free of spoilers... easy enough, no one else knew when I played through either) and had Deacon, Curie (don't judge.. so I married a synth :P french accent :P ), and Valentine with me often. I pay attention to my companions as they will often give clues worth noting. I began to realize that this new incarnation of the BoS wasn't something I wanted to saddle myself to for the long term.
Then, you guessed it, Blind Betrayal. I had fairly high charisma rating (I always do in these games) and so managed to spare his life. I was so upset about it that I never returned to the Prydwyn. Forget the Paladin Armour, who needs it? Time to break ranks and go Railroad 100%. While the Railroad has its own questionable methods, its a group who's grey I can live with. At least they aren't tech hoarding supremacists that look down an anyone that isn't BoS.
Now, just like you I never mentioned Fascism or Nazi's. That's political and the BoS aren't in for the politics. Similar to the Institute, this faction thinks itself superior to the rest of humanity and that is just extreme evil and small mindedness. There are some great ghouls to hang out with, awesome synths, and even a few super mutants across the many games I enjoyed having as companions. You take help where you can find it and you'll learn and grow in the process.

Its not even a "master race" ideology in my opinion. Its an overcoming ideology about the proper uses of technology without succumbing to the perils of technology. When Maxson is thought of as the perfect human specimen, he is the perfect human in a world where much of the people have to suffer and live through the perils of a new humanity in the Wasteland. These people have to suffer with the abominations known as synths, supermutants and ghouls brought about by the folly and foolishness of man's lack of restraint with using technology. Maxson is the exemplar of how to use technology in order to better one's state in the wasteland and secure his own life by eliminating the very threats that people have created and thus put one's own humanity into existential risk. In my playthroughs of the BoS, I did not think of them as putting forth a "master race" idea, as more of an "undoing the existential wrongs that we put ourselves in" idea.
If it were a historical "superior race" narrative, we would expect to see this reasoning applied to people, not just entities brought about from scientific experimentation.

I disagree I think that the elder Maxon group of the brotherhood is bad.
I completed the main quest with the Minutemen, BOS, and Railroad intact. I was clearing out a Super Mutant hideout with a BOS Scribe from the Learning Curve radiant questline. It was proving challenging, so I used a flare gun to bring in some Minutemen to help us. After a Super Mutant shot one of the Minutemen dead, the BOS Scribe cried "Brother! No!"
I was genuinely touched.

As long as two NPCs from differing factions are allied with each other, which the Minutemen and the Brotherhood are for the most part AND that NPC has a reaction to the death of an ally.

Using the Minutemen to take down the Institute is actually a very smart thing to do. it would show the people of the Commonwealth that the Minutemen are a force to be reckoned with. Even the Brotherhood of Steel with potentially think twice before trying to steamroll over them.
After the minutemen ending brotherhood soldiers will say “I don’t like the idea of the minutemen, having so much fire power.”

I actually loved the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3, but to me, it seems like Fallout 4’s BOS has become something I cant stand beside. The Brotherhood had become the very thing they fought against in Fallout 3

To be honest, once he mentioned there was a part of the Brotherhood recruited sentient deathclaws. I almost immediately imagined a death claw in power armor. Which sounds freaking awesome. And I legitimately want to see that in a fallout game.

When it brings the game to a 5fps slideshow, its too much. A mod to buff turret damage would have the same effect and not demolish performance.

I hate the minute men because Preston gets mad when I kill the Institute but wants me to murder the entire Institute.
When i tried in my 3rd playthrougg it broke and no matter how many quests I did (like 15 all together) I couldn't get the ending (I discovered the institute and the castle so I'm up to date)

I always side with the brotherhood up until Maxon makes you kill Danse, it seems more realistic that the sole survivor would go to a strong military force instinctively after learning they're going up against the institute to get their kid back, but then go to the minutemen after learning how evil the bos could be, or destroy them depending on how the execution went.
Unless he sees the BoS as the only way of getting his son back without realizing what the other factions are capable of.
Base on Sole Survivor's profile, he is a military man. I don't think he wants any of this community building stuff.
Maxson is doing this for show so everyone in the BoS know what the organization will do if a Synth is ever discovered in the rank. Furthermore, Maxson tested Sole Survivor's resolve by asking him to do the deed.

And this is where Bethesda's games totally bite as true RPG's. There comes a point where the character should be progressing from fetch & kill quests to true leadership and decision making effecting others. In FO4, you can become "General of the Minutemen". Except for the assault on the Institute, you don't order or lead the Minutemen doing diddly. You get rescue and kill missions just like you did to prove you were worthy of joining the Minutemen. You are a general in name only.
Keep in mind that per BOS tradition (and game canon), someone can CHALLENGE the "Elder" to become the new one. Why didn't Beth build this in the game? HMMMmmm? Because if we could, I had a character that would do exactly that, to make the BOS the "defenders of humanity" by protecting and promoting the civilians while pursuing their tech hegemony... and gradually reducing the religious purity definition of humanity to include ghouls and synths, and Super Mutants that agree to live peacefully with everyone else..
But you can't go off Bethesda's script.
I could rant for days (or at least paragraphs) on how poor the ROLE PLAYING aspects of Bethesda games really are. My dovhakiin should be High King of Skyrim or the bloody freaking Emperor of Tamriel by now...

I've always suspected he was a synth, or that something was done to him by the institute, to make his ideology more beneficial to them and possibly put them into a position where the brotherhood would act in such a hard lined way. The feats he's attributed with as a child almost don't feel human.

Actually that is explained in Fallout 3. You know, why Super Mutants aren't very smart on the east cost compared to the west.
Also New Vegas also has lore as to why the Super Mutants on the West Coast are also become stupid and violent. That game was made by people who worked on the original games.
So it's not Bethesda that has most Super Mutants are violent low IQ characters it's actually proper lore. The smarter Super Mutants are the rarity not the rule.
The first Gen Super Mutants where created by the Master (from the first game) no one else knew how to make them that way and the Master died in those pre-Bethesda games. All other Super Mutants are either made by other Super Mutants who just give the FEV virus to people or by the Institute scientist who clearly don't do much better minus Virgil who actually did it to himself.
Being explained =/= good storytelling. It's a retcon, and it's an easy way for Bethesda to throw in fodder for their shooters. West Coast mutants aren't stupid and violent-- A few are, but that's based more on an individual basis.
Even the dumber ones aren't always antagonistic. Look at Jacobstown. There are some other gens of Super Mutants there that aren't hostile.
Bethesda wanted orcs. They wanted monstrous enemies that the player character could kill without feeling any shame for it. Just because they threw together a sloppy retcon, doesn't make it excusable.
I'm well aware that Bethesda cobbled together a reason for it. I just think it's a shit excuse.
Yet again Bethesda did not explain why newer West Coast Super Mutants are dumber. That was done by Obsidian who is made up largely of the people who worked on the older games (Fallout 1, 2, tactics).
The Smart as people super mutants on the west coast where all made by the Master. Only the master knew how to use the FEV virus without messing up their intellect. So ounce the Master died no one else could make smart ones minus the rare one that was that way by accident.
On the West Coast much like on the East Coast after the Master died Super Mutants themselves tried to make more but didn't know how to do it like the Master.
You're to focused on Jacobstown there where Super Mutants in New Vegas that where not at Jacobston. These where made up mostly of the newer Super Mutants who where dumber like the ones on the East Coast. The ones in Jacobstown where all older ones that the Master had made and where therefore still smart.
And others might I add. Virgil also did it to other people. Which is why he deserves to be killed by the BOS in my book. Even if he recognises the evil behind it, he still committed those atrocities. It's poetic justice that he be left alone in isolation as a super mutant if you ask me.

Honestly with this information, the Brotherhood is quite similar to the Galactic Empire. For all we know, they could have their own "Order 66" in standby to use at the right moment. Could be the Institute had the same idea once they had enough synths spread around.
They represent imperialism - thinly veiled with their excuse of 'saving humanity from itself'... They are not much different from the British indulging in happily giving every country without a proper flag one of theirs - while claiming that they just want to spread civilisation to the savages...
So, while I really appreciate Ox's analysis and come to the same conclusion about the BOS - I don't thinke they actually represent Nazis. The kind of 'Ubermensch' thinking is quite a few centuries older.
And it makes sense thematically - as we have a bit of a recreation of the War of Independence - where you, the hero, has to unify the common folk behind your banner, breaking free from the grip of pretty powerful forces.

Fallout Tactics is one of the best games, even if it has some flaws. If by one miracle, we ever get back to this place and the golden ending is considered canon, this would likely be one of the most developed areas in post-war america.

One of the problems with Paladin Danse is that you don't know when the real one was replaced. It could have only been shortly before you meet him, after the real one had given the Brotherhood the info on the Institute. He could also have been programmed to have turned on the Brotherhood with the right command or signal, so it's valid for them to view him as a real risk. It wouldn't matter if he appears to be a good man if his personallity could be altered at the push of a button.
I completely forgot that since Danse is a synth, the real one is gone.. I don't like that Paladin Danse anymore
I think the story indicates that Danse was a freed Synth - like the security chief in Rivet City in FO3. Mainly due to the fact, that Institute synths know that they are synths and ... well work for the Institute.
As Danse doesn't do anything at all to give the Institute any advantage, and even actively thwarts their plans during the events of FO4 it's pretty unlikely that he was actively replaced while being in service of the BOS.
If I remember correctly the Danse that we met is a synth created out of thin air and either released in the wild or escaped the Institute somehow, this Danse never replaced the real Danse because there was never a real Danse in the first place. The only thing created about him his its body and its fisrt memories (father, mother, childhood,...), it's after meeting some members of the BoS that he decided to join them.
Which why I consider the brotherhood of steel to be the lesser of 2 evils, cuz if the institute can create synths that blend in any faction, No Faction is safe!

Midwestern BOS is the best. They ally themselves with Ghouls and even some Supermutants. They're also a good deal less radical, much to the chagrin of the eastern decisions. They also look darn cool.

I loved the Brotherhood in Fallout 3, Sarah Lyons and her father made me really care for the faction.
What you have to keep in mind is cause these games span so much time and distance that this BoS is not the same as Lyons'.

I remember after FO3, I bought a shirt with the Lyons Pride logo on it and other fans were like hell yeah. But if I wear the shirt now, fans give the dirty look until I'm like, " Bought it after FO3" and they go, "Okay, fair enough." Like it's not cool to support the BoS now.
@@HoloceneNamesake Lyons was only a group the players loved because he essentially stopped doing all the shit that BoS usually does and instead installed himself as a faction to assist people.
The brotherhood we see here are no better then the Enclave or the Institute, and the only reason they're there is to assume military control of all the resources and technology.
And these are resources they won't even give to the farmers to help produce.
Like the fact of the matter is that the Institute and the BoS had the same end goal, being the shepherds of humanity's technology and progress and thus become the designated leaders of humanity.
The only difference is that the Institute is way more generous with their tech and wants to restore society as fast as it can, which is literally the reason they've been sending out Gen 3s is to alter the political climate of the commonwealth to make it more friendly and receptive to them and their assistance.
There's a big difference between fallout 3 and 4s brotherhood's. I'll fight for 3s, but I'll fight 4s.
There's a terminal in Arthur's room in fallout 3, when accessed, there's a diary entry that says he wanted to play with the robot but they wouldn't let him. I always thought they were talking about a synth. Gen 3 synths were still in development but maybe they caught a gen 2 or 1 synth and he wanted to play with them. It kind of showed how hate for non-humans was taught to him. I know the obvious is Liberty Prime, but I don't see why Arthur would want to play with him, plus I like my theory more haha!!

This is where headcanon is great. Maxson became (as Elder Lyons feared) increasingly radical, especially after he helped bring in tbe Outcast/Enclave remnants, who clash with the more moderate BoS members. Then at some point Sarah or her father were killed/gravely injured during a botched Syth infiltration. The Eldar (whoever that ends up being) sizes this opportunity to part take in the old BoS favorite game of "sending popular problematic wildcards and there followers out on long distance expeditions, in the hope they die/mellow out".
Under Arthur Maxson, The East Coast Brotherhood of Steel behave like a hybridization between the Enclave and Caesar’s Legion.

No, they’re literally a mix between the original brotherhood and Lyons. They don’t confiscate that much tech they kill feral ghouls and super mutants. The crop requisitioning is off the books no sanctioned. In the capital wasteland they actually provide vertibird support for caravans. It just feels like a drastic change because they aren’t Lyons brotherhood

They remind me of the Spartan Order from metro. They consider it a war for humanity's Survival. While I don't condone all of their actions I understand their motivations. They are a reaction to the harsh world, a violent and desperate push back by mankind's tribalistic instinct to destroy the other, and Survive.
The Spartan order is like the brotherhood in the beginning. Protecting the people.
Honestly, I like this logic. It’s almost tragically true. I’ve completely frozen my game, as I couldn’t decide on an ending. This reasoning, however, does account for a lot of the Brotherhood’s more evil ideals. Even the Pre-War U.S. Government had the same ideology, with the slogan: Exitus Acta Probat. The end justifies the deeds.

@@MDanielClark For what its worth: If you don't like the institute and don't mind blowing them up (evacuating survivors is optional), then you can side with the miniutemen, whelst keeping the railroad and brotherhood alive. Since you are a member of the brotherhood, and likly to become a high ranking member, you can headcannon it that you eventualy change thier path, or even challenge Maxons authority as Eldar after the events of the game.
Alternatively, if you are willing to put up with some BS and immaturity, you could always download the outcasts & remnents, and Project Valkeryie mods by thuggysmurf from the nexus. They provide more peacefull ending options wheare you can change the factions more than you can in the base game. Start me up as an alternate start mod also makes some pretty big changes to the game in small ways that change the experience alot that you might find usefull.
We won't go quietly, the legion can count on that.

@@SL4Y3RAU yeah, i hate that they didn't expand the choices into direction where you could literally use other factions to upgrade your own, blow the commonwealth or become the king of it, make other faction companions leave the faction or make Kellogg work for you etc, i'd see 1% - 100% RPG.

Honestly the Minuteman seem to be the most caring faction that really does care about the world.
They dont do shit. BoS is at least patrolling the commonwealth, Minutemen arent doing shit even when you THE GENERAL use the flare gun (sometimes lvl 1s spond and die quickly). Minuteman are worthless, they should become some sort of settlement guard, instead they cant even defends the sanctuary (even if you leave preston there)
@@arnoldszwarzenegger6832 The minutemen can take control of the checkpoints and strategic spots all over the common wealth. If your defenses are high enough, settlements wont even be attacked. If they are, that makes things more challenging and fun. Sure preston's quests may get boring. But once you finish the game, they're a great source of exp and loot. The BOS on the other hand may patrol the commonwealth. But they mainly do it for hunting high tech. They don't care about the civlians. But the minutemen does. And with the sole survivor as their general, they can be the strongest faction in the game.
@@orbitalforce7120 What people tend to forget is that The Minutemen do not force the Farms to give nearly all the food to them and the Minutemen will allow the Farms to have high tech machine security to protect the farms including weapons. Whereas the BOS will take nearly all the Food and the high tech machines and weapons for themselves and they will use force to do so.

The minutemen just protects their neighbors and friends from things like raiders, mutants, synths and all that good stuff. It's fairly obvious that the brotherhood of steel was an analogy to the British occupied forces. (In this game, specifically)
They were a "foreign" power that came to the commonwealth to fight a war and the local people were gonna have to pay for that war.
They storytelling paints them in a bad light because they are effectively bad guys.

Artan9000, the only way to have Lyon’s vision of the Brotherhood of Steel is by having the Sole Survivor as the Elder of the Brotherhood of Steel; Danse as the leader of the Railroad, and Preston remaining as the General of the Minutemen with cut content mods further proving that Obsidian is better at making games than Bethesda are.

Lyons agreed with exterminating feral ghouls but did not agree with killing non-ferals.
Maxson would just rather kill them all then deal with sorting.

Pimping Pippin Aldis, Lyon’s vision for the Commonwealth if he/she were alive during the events of Fallout 4 would have had the Brotherhood of Steel align with both the Minutemen and Railroad to destroy the Institute using the left over technology from the Institute that isn’t used for nefarious means, and I’m glad that there’s an actual mod for Lyon to be alive and to kill off Maxson because Maxson isn’t any different than Father in Fallout 4.

I can't believe it took me 5 years to find this video. I loved BoS in 3, but 4 felt dirty. I is a fine line between savior and tyrant. This is the reason I usually side with minutemen. In my head, Minutemen seem like the best positioned to take in the BoS remnants that are more aligned with the Elder Lyons world view, and work with the railroad to further the integration of synths into the developing society of the Commonwealth. Even though Preston makes me want to shoot him sometimes.
Looking at things long-term and from a material perspective rather than an ideological one, the Brotherhood is still the best faction for the Commonwealth by far. Even a best-case scenario for the Minutemen wouldn’t bring the Commonwealth anywhere close to the same level of development it could reach under the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood has the resources, expertise, industrial capacity, and more importantly the unity and the will to redevelop the Commonwealth. As likeable and idealistic as the Minutemen are, at a certain point you’ve got to realize that their most technically proficient member - Sturges - is essentially a jumped up Mechanic who barely knows what he’s doing and miraculously manages to just barely pull things off by the skin of his teeth. A bunch of illiterate farmers with pipe guns don’t compare to the industrial Behemoth that is the Brotherhood. Even if you hate the Brotherhood’s ideology you’ve got to realize that their ideology can always change and liberalize over time depending on their politics and their leaders - their concrete contributions to economic development are not, on the other hand, quite so malleable.

Something that really winds me up about the BoS "requisitioning" food from farms is that you are the general of the Minutemen who have a food surplus across your settlements. If Teagan asked, you could give them all the food they want - that he doesn't and instead wants you to strongarm local farms who haven't got a pot to P in or a window to throw it out of shows that they do it because they like it.
Sounds more like a game design flaw, actually. This option should be avaiable, maybe it could annoy Preston if you handed it for free, but it should be possible.
Egg Zachary! Beth takes it FARTHER than that! They INTENTIONALLY BLOCK you from planting crops at the airport. They know you COULD provide food and water to the BoS. They deliberately BLOCKED that option in a game where numerous game mechanics could have and even should have been options! This was clear and obvious intent by Beth, which I can only imagine is to make the statement loud and clear just how much the BoS are complete and total dicks.

Look at how Beth INTENTIONALLY blocks the airport settlement from planting food in spite of having ground, and INTENTIONALLY blocks access to the ocean RIGHT BESIDE the airport. Look at how the barter option is both BURIED and is RIDICULOUSLY COSTLY. It's not like we don't know the price of mutfruit. Beth is making a statement. The BoS are dicks. The BoS WANTS you to terrorize farmers. Beth WANTS you to resolve these missions with hostility on the BoS's behalf.
The only possible bug is that sometimes the settlements that you raid ... are your own. And even then you can't say yes for the settlers even though it's your own settlement. IF that's even a bug. Because it could be intentional, just like the rest of the roadblocks that Beth intentionally put in place to prevent friendly resolution.

The order of Danse’s execution is not an emotional or even anti synth policy in origin. Danse is near the top of the chain of command and revealed as a complete unknown, he could be a spy aware of it or not, a sleeper agent, anything really. Even exile is honestly an incredible risk given the institute could pick him up and dig his mind for just about all the brotherhoods sensitive intel. That kind of thing is just not an acceptable risk for any military.
This is my argument too. The railroad have already proven that they can change a Synths "programming" or whatever and don't care if they become a raider. They have also proven that they will do anything to destroy the BoS.
What happens if they capture Danse and reprogram him? He is clearly in Maxson's inner circle, he also knows nearly everything about the strengths and weaknesses of the Brotherhood. Like you said he could be turned into a spy or an assassin.
Also, what if the "Danse" persona was given to him by the Institute in order to infiltrate the BoS, and when the right time came a repeat of the CPG massacre only for the Brotherhood?
Maxson is even remorseful about it if you talk to him. He does not like ordering the execution but the threat is too great, and sometimes one must make the hard decisions.
