I hate to admit that sometimes my roll-off sheets look nicer than my intended projects. I’ve framed two of my roll-offs.
I've been scanning them and then altering them in photoshop. I'm amazed how they are turning out. I'll share them in a video one of these days.
@@SusanCliftonArtist I have started using only the deli paper for cleanup sheets. Then I take my paint covered stencils and lay them down on the cleanup sheets before I wash them and make nice collage fodder. Deli sheets aren’t cheap - as you know - and I thank you every day for the link you had that showed the brand that isn’t folded.
Listening to you talk about your mom and working in a print shop reminds me of when I was little. My dad was a typesetter for a local newspaper. He was a Linotype operator. I used to love going to work with him on Saturday’s. I would watch him set the metal plates that had words on them and send them thru the machine. At the end of the day, he would take a bunch of misprinted papers and cut them down to small notepads for me. I would share them with my cousins and we’d play school with them. Thanks for giving me that awesome memory.
Wow. How interesting! My mom didn't work at a hot metal shop until years later. Or at least I didn't see it until that time. My until for worked for a newspaper and suggested it to my mom because she was a fast typist. But cold type was the only job she could get. It wasn't a job women did. She was ahead of her time.
Love these. The texture on the last one is my favorite!
Thanks for watching. I was really pleased with these.
Thank you so much Susan I really really enjoyed watching you create all these beautiful and wonderful prints. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Thanks. This was a fun one.
Love these!
I'm glad you like them.
Loving your prints❣️❣️❣️
Yay, thank you!
Loving these❤
Me too. Surprising I haven't found a use for them yet.
I liked them all!
Thanks Cheryl!
So fresh!! I’m going to try this
Let me know how it goes!
I love your tutorials 😎
Thank you very much.
Brava!😊
Thank you! 😃
This is a good idea. You can make a stencil with 4 round shapes, put it on your gelli plate, draw the lines you want, cover with paint, remove the stencil and put another color. Then the paint will remain in the circles.
That's a good idea but might be a little too neat for me. I like things unexpected and messy.
Liked this
Thanks, Linda.
Hello from Beautiful British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
❤🎉
Hello!!
Should you always use fluid paint after your first layer? And does the lighter weight paper have the ability to lift up all of the paint?
Use any paint you like. Everyone has different preferences. I happen to like the fluid paint because it dries fast. And yes the lighter weight has the ability to lift up all the paint. But keep in mind that you have to play with the paint you use and test different times before you pull. I get my best results with the fluid paint at about 2 minutes before I pull. I hope that helps. Thanks for your questions.
I soak my brayers in some alcohol for about half an hour or so and the acrylic will come off. 🙂 Great video. Thanks!
Did you ever try the Murphy's Oil Soap. I tend to let mine get really layered with paint. When I soak in Murphy's the paint comes off super easy. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
Have you used the new sharpie markers on the geli??? The ones that are advertised to not bleed thru in a sketchbook?
No I haven't. I've been trying to find out if they would work on the plate. They are probably like Posca pens so maybe it's ok. The people at the art supply had no idea. I'll give it a try and let you know.
I know a sharpie will fade rather quickly when exposed to light. Would this be an issue with the collage papers that are made using a sharpie?
Following
I used poscas to make a no parking sign it faded badly..the sharpie didn't red
Possibly the acrylic medium used in collage will protect it.
I spray all my light sensitive with a protective coat. It's designed for pastels.
I agree with @catherinenicholson7816. If you seal your collage as you should with a quality gel medium It will protect it. This is straight from Golden: The Gel Topcoats, when used as a final layer, should greatly increase the longevity and lightfastness of whatever media you are working with. Overall they will lower water-sensitivity, limit air exposure, and provide substantial UV protection.
What brand of brayer do you recommend?
I have no particular preference. I have 2 speedball brayers but then I have the black ones that I get fairly cheap from blick and they are easier to clean.
You can likely peal the paint off that narrow brayer by starting at the edges. Good luck and patience!
Thanks for the tip! I didn't build up too much paint on it. I'll try to clean it. I ordered a speedball 2" brayer for next time.
What is the name & company of the tiny spots of the rubber stamp? Thanks.
I'm not sure of the name but here is the link: amzn.to/3Nuqpny
You might want to buy a nice speedball 1.5” or 2” soft brayer. I love them more than all the other brayers I’ve owned.
I already did. A 2". 😊
@@SusanCliftonArtist my 1.5” arrived this week. Love it.
Do you let the titan buff layer dry before pulling? Thank you! Love the sharpie idea!
The last layer needs to be wet so the paper can pull all the paint in all the layers. A think layer of paint and pull right away.
@@SusanCliftonArtist thank you! I’m new to this and it is so fun! But a little confusing. 😁
Does matte acrylic medium pick up stuff off gelli plates?
Yes it does. I found the Golden Matte medium works great.
@@SusanCliftonArtist I have a brand idk the name of because I repotted it into a glass jar due to the lid sticking so, lol, but it's the only matte acrylic medium I have and mostly use it as a glue so THANK YOU! That helps to know what else to do with it since it mostly sits lol
@@SusanCliftonArtist and then I tried it this evening. I need to let it sit a while after spreading a very thin coat, but it works! Wow! Tysm! You have no idea how watching only 2 videos of gours has helped me SO much. And I did pick ups of just sharpie so that I have collage fodder on tracing paper!! SO cool! 😍 I'm stoked to use them! Keep up the great content! I'll be watching more to learn from you!!
I don't even care about the edges, because I would likely tear or cut the shapes. I did notice, however, that after the first pull, there were still faint black lines on the plate.
Yes. They ended up in the background of my Black and white prints in the next video. I didn't even see it. My eyes are getting bad. The marker usually comes off easily with a baby wipe or your next pull.
I used a chartpak permanent marker and it won’t come off?
Try baby oil. Let me know if it works. Let it sit for a bit and then rub.
Make a solution of Murphy’s Oil Soap and soak that brayer. It’ll come clean.
That's what I do. I was out of it and my Supermarket didn't have it in stock. Finally got some today.
@@SusanCliftonArtist oh, good. Who woulda thunk that the store would be outta Murphy’s Oil ? Sure is great stuff.
I would like to see your cards made from this technique.
I made postcards in a video. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/MQwXySqgyZY/видео.html
Love this idea! They all turned out beautifully! Thank you for sharing.
