  • I created an art piece by gelli printing onto a canvas, this idea came to me from a combination of two talented artists whom I admire, Patricia from PM Artist Studio and Froyle Davies from New Zealand.
    This was the first time I’d ever tried gel printing directly onto a canvas and it wasn't without its challenges.
    This is the link to the video I mentioned where Patricia created art pieces using smaller gel plates: • Gradation & What's Nex...
    This is the link to the video I mentioned where Froyle created a collage art piece on a canvas: • This is How You Create...

    I would put the writing stencil directly on the canvas and with a sponge apply the black paint directly to the canvas. It would produce a blacker black.

    At first I thought to myself...., "Where is this going..."? Then there were a few times I thought..., "He should quit while he's ahead..." Then it just started to gel, no pun intended!!! The colors and content are hypnotic. The more you look, the more you see. Well done 👏

    I stretch my own canvas so I have rolls that I buy from Big Duck Canvas out of Georgia, very reasonable. That would be a great solution to the corner problem. Stretch them onto bars after creating the piece. I’m going to try this that way. You could also paint the whole canvas with a value 3-4 transparent, let it dry then proceed with a pre stretched canvas. I do love this piece and the process.

    I have wanted to try gel-printing onto a canvas for a while. When you started with all of the possible cons at the start, you addressed all of the same concerns I had! You addressed all of those brilliantly Ceri! Your art piece turned out gorgeous and after watching from start to finish, I intend on giving it a go! Thank you so much for such a well done video and your presentation, as always, makes the daunting aspects seem much less so!!

    Basically you're using a gel plate as a stamp to collage patterns. 👍 Fun 😁
    You can do this on canvas fabric (not stretched on a frame). I do that for journal covers.

  • @lianacharlton3268
    @lianacharlton3268 2 дня назад

    You could do mixed media collage on canvas - as an alternative to placing the canvas on your plate. You print on tissue paper and use gel matte medium to add the print to your canvas. The tissue paper becomes transparent so you still see what’s underneath with the print on top

      Froyle thank you so much for your comment, I love your artistry and the energy you put into the world, have fun with the process and be aware of the canvas flexibility which was my main stumbling block. I am British and live in Wales however when I was a child I was raised on an island in The Bay of Islands and know your country to be a place of much beauty, nature excelled itself in New Zealand’s creation.

    Hi Ceri! This was really interesting. It was like flying without a net. I appreciated your thoughts on ways to not have the hard edges of the gelli mats showing on the final piece; using the masks to their best effect. That was really impressive. The first pull, the colors you used were just amazing together. It was so natural, like the sun or a desert all rolled into one. Can't wait for you to do this again!
