those are really fun! Coffee Filters are cheap enough here so I think they would make a good substrate for gelli prints. thanks so much for sharing your process and for a few laughs along the way!!
Your alteration on Whirlies is brilliant!!!! And yes Stitching Ark is Paulla... so happy you two chatted and wow these coffee filters are spectacular. 💖💖😘
Hi Ceri! I bought from Walmart what is called a Pro Series AIR HOCKEY STRIKER as a substitute for one of those expensive Barens. The ones I have are from a company called Hathaway. They are plastic with a felt cover..sort of like a hockey puck with a handle on top. Cheers from Northern California, USA. P.S. they were really cheap..15.00 for 2 in USD
Love watching you work with the geli plates. Such beautiful results each time. I also like the sheet you were using to cove that has the squares. I know it was probably a sheet you used to protect a surface but I really like it.

You made the process so easy for me to grasp and for that, I want to thank you very much. I inherited a lot of coffee filters and don't drink coffee, so this is a win-win for me.
Fabulous….have you every thought of writing the order down so that you can refer to it as you create, almost like a check list. Hopefully that may help.
@@CeriGriffiths That is what I normally do, I write the steps down until I get them memorized. Normally when I watch gel print videos, they go so fast and don't explain why they are doing what they did. I love the results but have no idea of how to do something even similar. You took your time, gave explanations and it was so helpful. I'm really glad I found your channel.
Gorgeous results!! I love all the color combinations and my favorite was the soft gold one with daisies at 59:11. The translucent red oxide color is a fabulous one indeed. 👍🏼 Thank you Ceri! 😊
Hi Ceri I used coffee filters with spray inks and paints to make flowers for my daughter's wedding (over 300)! What I found is once you spray them they will straighten out once you lay them out to dry and usually dry within a few minutes so you don't have to iron them. They are great to work with.
Yep times are tuff so even in our craft we are trying to use more things around the house etc which have always done anyhow. Great stuff well done 👏 😀😍
Love watching you play with your gelli plate. I have some of those coffee filters I bought last time I was in US. Great idea, I will add them to my mixed media trolly 😃
CERI, I’m a first-time commenter, but a long-time watcher and supporter of your videos. I have recently settled on your videos, having watched many, many others in the junk journal community, as the only ones (not to discredit the many others whom I have learned something from) but you have a mixed media “bent” that appeals to me and that I am eager to learn about. I also identify very well with your OCD, Anxiety, and the insecurities you sometimes discuss. I suffer from those things as well. I hope that I can learn to be fearless about sharing my art with others, a hurdle you seem to have surmounted, and that I can enjoy the journey, whether I reach my goals or not!.
Thank you, every project is a challenge for me but the more I do the easier it usually gets, but surmounting the struggle adds to the sense of achievement and helps me become a better artist.
Always fun to watch you gel print Ceri & a special one this time -- you are, on our behalf, a mixed media explorer who boldly goes where no man (or woman) has gone before :) Appreciate your desire to cover those of us for whom the Carnival tissue is cost prohibitive (have you seen Froyle's posts where she has a go at replicating expensive handmade papers by using pastes & gels?) And you're so right, gel printing is a blast and an ongoing revelation -- always something new :)
Excellent video! I’m fascinated with gel printing and when I saw the thumbnail of your video pop up, I had to come take a look! I’ve collected coffee filters ever since I got into junk journaling (I also use them to cover the larger holes in the bottom of a pot when potting plants) so I have tons at the ready. Also, I’ve been using a Keurig for my coffee so I have tons left from my old machine lol. I’ve been really keen on trying projects with dryer sheets (used of course, after they come out of the dryer). These sheets have a unique texture and are pretty soft and pliable (and smell good too lol). My original plan was to use them to collage over a dried flower (to cover & protect the flower) but I wonder if they would work for gel printing?? Love those masks you used....esp the daisy one! TYFS!! New subbie here Michigan USA ❤️🦋💜
Morning Cindy and welcome to my channel, I don’t used drier sheets but I don’t see why they wouldn’t work, the same could be done with used wet wipes I’m sure.

Hi Ceri! For those of us with smaller gelli mats they sell smaller size coffee filters, 3-4 cups about 6.5" in diameter. I wonder if you have tried any of those you color died? It would give you a different base to start with. These prints are absolutely amazing! I love the new masks you purchased from P&M! I hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you Laura I didn’t know the filters came in different sizes, the ones I dyed I used food colour and I’ve found if you drip water on them they leave white marks so not sure what effect that would have with acrylics.
@@CeriGriffiths I wondered what you dyed them with. I have an entire package that were accidentally coffee dyed, the pot wasn't all the way on the maker...and the filters were sitting on the counter. I microwaved and air dried them.
Great process video Ceri! I have used coffee filters cut into a snowflake shape on the gelliplate before but I will definitely try your technique to soak and lay flat first and use stencils with the gelliplate. (I probably won’t iron though as me and the iron aren’t great friends 😂) tfs
First- you described the magic of P&M to a “T”! Perfect wording. I loved watching you turn these coffee filters into circular works of art. I so love that you altered the Whirlies stencil, it really offers multiple uses that way! I am wondering about the circular air fryer filters that I have, they are parchment colored though. I may have to experiment- thank you for inspiring all of us once again Ceri. Loved the daisy paper and the C of C’s a lot!

Ceri, I just found your demo on my feed. Your process looks like fun way to use my acrylic paints & old coffee filters. Will this craft be good for any age group, like grammar or elementary schools kiddos?
Mary the process would work for any age as long as supervised, as there are no sharp objects it should be safe. Paint could possibly be harmful if ingested so obviously that would need to be watched. Aprons would be a must. The trouble is that gel plates and brayers can be expensive, you may be able to do something similar with sheets of thick plastic, the paint could be spread or brushed on to the plastic then the paper laid over the top to pull the print. I’d say experiment and see what gives you similar results.
LOVE your junk journal graphic T--is it one of your own designs??? So cool-- I've dyed loads of filters but now I'll have to add them to the gel plate toy box for sure--these turned out great! Can't wait to see how you put them in your work.
Great to have options for people who live out of the UK. Love the crescent mask on the coffee filter paper. So cool the way your mind can springboard to create cost saving techniques! By the way was that a Ceri original printed t-shirt that you had on?
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of coffee do you drink? You said PPl is the usa still have the drip pots. I am wondering what you guys use. I personally use an espresso machine, A rather cheap one but it works great! I love my crema rich wonderfully tasting coffee! My hubby does as well! He says i am the best at making it, He don't even compare to how well i do, so he often waits on me to make one if he knows ill be making it soon.I love learning about others cultures and likes/dislikes. BTW i love your ideas about using coffee filters!
Julie it all depends on how quickly I want a coffee, instant coffee is always in the cupboard, I’ve got a small coffee machine in the studio that works on pods and then I’ve got ground coffee I put in my plunger coffee pot. Really it friends on my mood.
Tips: DEFINITELY watch just a bit on color theory bc it helped me in mixing paints nicely on a gelli plate Try: pink, orange & yellow.... and separately that is, try green, blue and yellow. They all mix quite nicely bc they are close on the color wheel, no opposite. That was the best bit of homework I ever did, honestly, was to kinda go back to art class and learn a touch of color theory. It wasn't even a deep dive, honestly. But it helped MASSIVELY so what I create is cute and not mud
👍👍Great idea! This was such a fun play, Ceri! If it wasn't so early here, I'd go get a pile of coffee filters for a play, but I don't want to wake everyone up. I'm so curious how they will tear. The only thing I'd ever thought to do with these was coffee dye them. Somehow I missed out on Bob & will have to see how you created him.
If you mean the stickers I use as roll out sheets I normally hunt them down in the bargain bins at stationery shops, Avery labels are my favourite because they're a good quality
Wondering if this would work effectively on the foam head? I recall that P tore many if her tissue papers into small pieces. This fiber seems like it’s very pliable and would work well to glue onto the curved surfaces.
Sandy I’ve never tried this before but the filters are very pliable so I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t work, just have a try on something shaped, a box or something and if it works on that it should work on a head.
i am really enjoying watching this i make jewlery with my papers this would be great ty so much i would love to ask were did you get that tissue paper and what is it called that you are putting on top of youer filter
Carnival wet strength tissue paper is now available on Amazon in the states. They are not giving it away! It's @ $60 for a set amount and that's all but it's really good.
I put coffee filters on my gelli plate and did this too but I didn't do the whole wet then dry thing. They look fine and don't have folds etc.. it's like the getting with the paint and then drying in air ironed it out
I was wondering why u don’t put the mask on something and rub it off instead of letting it dry on the mask ? I know nothing about the process so am just asking ? ❤❤❤
One source of waxed tissue papers, is toilet seat covers. They are translucent, yet sturdy. They may work quite well and be inexpensive, and may or may not be available in all countries or communities. Worth a try, though. 😀😀😀

I've dyed loads of filters but now I'll have to add them to the gel plate toy box for sure--these turned out great! Can't wait to see how you put them in your work.
Thank you and yes i designed the teeshirt, using a few of my own things plus a PM stencil.
@@CeriGriffiths Please show it off more next time--would love to see it in its entirety --very very cool 😎
Those coffee filters will make gorgeous backgrounds to make stamped labels. Almost like rice paper.
They would
Great to have options for people who live out of the UK. Love the crescent mask on the coffee filter paper. So cool the way your mind can springboard to create cost saving techniques! By the way was that a Ceri original printed t-shirt that you had on?
Thank you and yes it was on me of my own tees
Tips: DEFINITELY watch just a bit on color theory bc it helped me in mixing paints nicely on a gelli plate
Try: pink, orange & yellow.... and separately that is, try green, blue and yellow.
Thank you I’ve made a note of those colour combinations and will try them at some point and yes you’re right a little colour theory goes a long way.
@@CeriGriffiths I LOVE these combos I have made on bookmarks and I 2as so proud to finally not make mud, something I'm fantastic at making lol
So Interesting, looking forward to trying this on coffee filters❤️🥰🙏🏻
Good luck
I thought that was brilliant definitely successful
Fabulous.
Fabulous, the filters I have tear very easily in any direction.
@@CeriGriffiths Thanks!
Love this video going to store for filters tomorrow😉
Have fun
Ceri loved this stream. Did you spritz the coffee filters first and flatten?
Yes I wet them and then flattened them.
I thought all the prints turned out great. Enjoy your videos so much. What is the name of the company you get your stickers from? Thanks
Carol I believe it was wet strength tissue paper called carnival tissue paper.
ty so much i will try to order some just love your videos
@@CeriGriffiths
Wow again! You could also put 2 gel plates aside by side, making 1 large one. I saw that seemingly obvious idea on ArtWhisper88
Fantastic.
Carnival wet strength tissue paper is now available on Amazon in the states. They are not giving it away! It's @ $60 for a set amount and that's all but it's really good.
I love carnival tissue as an alternative you can gelli print into coffee filters for collage with good results.
I put coffee filters on my gelli plate and did this too but I didn't do the whole wet then dry thing. They look fine and don't have folds etc.. it's like the getting with the paint and then drying in air ironed it out
Fantastic.
I was wondering why u don’t put the mask on something and rub it off instead of letting it dry on the mask ? I know nothing about the process so am just asking ? ❤❤❤
That may be possible, this is just the way I know how to do it.
One source of waxed tissue papers, is toilet seat covers. They are translucent, yet sturdy. They may work quite well and be inexpensive, and may or may not be available in all countries or communities. Worth a try, though. 😀😀😀
Ill have to check that out, thank you
Lovely 🥰
Thank you
