    Your 1st print is stunning! I will be buying some ribbon like this. I've seen it at Dollar Tree.

      Yes, I recently saw it there as well. I'm going to be using it again soon. I'm making papers for a beach hat in collage.

    Other things to consider about the pick up of the paint is humidity or lack thereof and the timing between putting paint down and putting paper down. When you use the texture plates there is probably too much time. Letting the first layer dry then picking up with a very thin layer of titanium white or titan buff will increase your success. You can also use matte or gel medium as a pick up layer too! As for the rice paper, the smooth side needs to be placed down on the paint. I can’t tell in the video if you have the rough side or smooth side down.

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist 6 месяцев назад

      always smooth side down. The problems I had that day were the paper. I haven't had any problems since. My new studio is cold and even though I live in South Florida it's not very humid. No more problems. Thanks for your comment.

    New viewer here and am loving your videos! Thank you! I’ve been throwing a casual eye toward this craft. I’m loving the layering..and all your texture ideas are awesome. I’m an old bird that has fallen down some rabbit holes and I know me..🤪 I usually rush right out and buy all the wrong things. This time will be different. 😂 I’ll keep watching and learning. Thanks again. I used to be a dyer. We used to call brown made from using contrastisting colors…mud. Lol after many years I learned that one persons mud is another persons chocolate syrup. I made mud on cashmere. This being paper…I’m going to relax about that. 🙂 ❤️

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist 9 месяцев назад

      Yea, it's mud. LOL. But sometimes in collage you need that color. Start with a small plate. I used only copy paper in the beginning. Now I use Deli paper and rice paper but still like copy paper. You do not need to spend a lot to get started. try it first then see if you need all those other things.

    Loved watching you work with the colors and textures today! Gel Plate paper is ALWAYS an adventure, right? I HEARTILY recommend the Hammermill 32# Premium Color Copy paper. It's one of my favorite papers. Worth every penny. It's not photo paper, it's made for digital printing. It has enough body and opacity to double print both sides of brochures, which is what I used for regular in-house projects before I retired. Then I tried it again on my gel plate and I was thrilled to find out how nice it worked! It is available in tabloid, too. Which. you can purchase, have it bulk cut in half at the print shop, and you'll get short grain 11 x 8.5 inch paper for making books. Hugs, deb.

      Thanks for the suggestion. I will look for that. I never had this problem before. Maybe I picked up ink jet paper instead? Usually I love the copy paper because it works so well and then it's easier to use in collage. I almost didn't post this video because it was so bad. But I think it's still helpful in some way.

      Miss Susan, never fret about showing things that do not turn out perfect! I learn from seeing everyone solve the problems that crop up! Dry air, humidity, crazy paints, random poltergeists .... it can happen to us all! Love ya for showing and sharing this! ❤ @@SusanCliftonArtist

    This was great. The raffia texture makes me think of window screen "fabric" both the new and the old screen you're replacing is even better. Plus washable and you can cut in the bigger sizes.

    Love watching you work, so inspiring! Thanks for the tip on Golden fluid titan buff for pickup, will try it. My fav Amsterdam paints (reg not expert) that I always keep a backup tube are: Yellowish Green, Graphite and Paynes Grey. Love the Graphite for botanicals, looks like pencil marks. Their Paynes Grey is unlike any other I've tried. I got the same texture plates on sale at Michaels, I sometimes use them to embellish gel prints using my inkpad with them. So enjoyable watching you create, Thanks so much Susan!

      I definitely have to get more Amsterdam paint colors. I've been spending so much lately I'm waiting to use up some of the paint I already have. I will try the graphite. It sounds interesting.

  • @Magoo2939

    Burlap or any fabric absorbs the moisture in the paint creating a drier surface to print. So problem probably not the paper.

      Good suggestion. I need to try different papers. This last purchase was a bad one. I hope I kept the wrapper so I see why it isn't good and buy something different. I'm not sure what we call layout paper here in the US. Maybe it's Graphic Design paper?

    Hi is the bryer sospose to be sticky tackie ?? Ty

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist 10 месяцев назад +1

      Not really. It sometimes happens. Very seldom with fluid paints. The creamy paints can get thick over time. When the paint is sticky on the brayer it's hard to get an even coat and sometimes if you keep going over it it will start to pick up the paint. Very frustrating and a waste of paint.
