@@Ajayharrysimon. I’m in complete agreement with you regarding Omega watches bracelets. My 1999 seamaster pro dive model bracelet had pins (unlike Rolex’s screws) and on three occasions a pin would slip out just enough so that it would catch on my shirt sleeve or any other clothing. Then the watch would fall off!! Needless to say, I had enough of that crap and promptly sold it! My 1976 Rolex Perpetual (no date) has never had any issue with the bracelet. As I comment here in 09/03/2023, it remains accurate to four seconds per day, which was considered a certified chronometer when it was manufactured! That’s pretty damn great for a 47 years old watch!! 😃

i have a 55 year old mechanical omega (cal 269) that i have inherited from my grandpa. that was a gift from his father. so it is a genealogical timepiece that i enjoy wearing, definitely most valuable watch in my collection. therefore, from my subjective experience, i prefer omega over rolex. i respect rolex and would purchase white gold datejust if i have the money. but i think most rolex watches are overpriced. moreover, the recent image of rolex is "nouveau riche-esque" which i abhor.

Every single top watch channel in youtube agrees and confirms that Omega is above Rolex in quality and technology. Clearly not in marketing, but it has always been that way. Omega is an important horological house with own, in-house, calibers, including chronographs since the beginning. The famous Lemania 321, and 861 were coproductions between Lemania and Omega.

I like very much your videos. I believe these are the best watch videos on youtube. Thank you. Something important about this history, concerning Omega and Rolex is that Rolex never make in-house movements until 2004. They always bought the movements to an outside brand, Aegler, which made many ladies watches and also sold movements to Gruen. The major Rolex innovation is the Oyster case, but all the mechanics is merit to Aegler. Rolex just very recently bought Aegler, and for the first time their movements can be considered in-house. Now they have even made their first chronograph. Omega is very different, it is a brand with half a century more history, always in-house, their chronographs were always in-house, as Lemania and Omega were the same brand, and codeveloped calibers, like the 321. Omega always provided in-house calibers with the exception of the 80's and 90's. In my view Omega has always been technically superior to Rolex --and today is no exception--, but Rolex has way better marketing and much better brand structure. Omega has a very unintelligible line, chronographs in every sub line, different diver watches, etc... All that is very difficult to understand and also unappealing. Rolex has a very straightforward line, very understandable. Thank you!

The watch is not my taste so I called the Jewelry store to ask if I can exchange it. The said yes but only if I pay $250 for a new warranty card, shipping and insurance so Rolex can reissue a new one. The second stipulation is that I can only buy another DateJust. Noting else. Rolex is 80% marketing company and 20% watch company. Mean while Omega from the start is a watch company.
The only sin like most of other the watch companies did during the quartz crisis; producing tons of quartz watches. Nothing wrong with quartz watches, since a watch is a watch, but Rolex as a marketing company was too smart and way ahead of the game with regards to solidifying itself as a "luxury" brand.

Rolex on the other hand I always saw as one of the laziest brands when it comes to engineering, but VERY good at marketing.
Just look at the Daytona, it took them decades to actually MAKE a movement themselves.
Look at this years Basel. They simply put the bracelet and the movement of last year's model on the Batman and called it a day, but somehow, partly probably because of their marketing, I still want one just as bad as an Omega 😄

Rolex and Omega, the Ying & Yang of watch brands. Both have their great watches, and I couldn't say in all honesty that I prefer 1 over the other. Rolex are such a well run company, and they survived the Quartz Crisis of the 70's & 80's in much better shape than Omega, who came close to going bankrupt during this time. They know their customers probably better than any other brand., and are currently a better investment (Mostly). But if u enjoy wearing a watch for the sake of wearing a watch, rather than as an investment, Omega have so much going for them I think..

Those who own both brands perhaps may be in a better position to be critical. Omega and Rolex are both very good brands, to disregard Rolex as a status symbol misses the point, rather we should appreciate horology in its diverse interpretation.

I'll take an aqua terra over an explorer or oyster perpetual, but i'll take a sub over a planet ocean or seamaster. Then back to Omega if I'm buying a chronograph. Many of the watches from both brands are so similar they're almost interchangeable. The rivalry between these two is about as closely matched as BMW versus Audi or Ford versus Chevy. It's mostly subjective.

I worked in a restaurant near a business park and lots of those guys had various nice watches. I would always compliment them, and the Rolex owners always seemed disinterested whereas owners of other brands seemed genuinely interested in striking up a conversation about their watch, and sometimes they'd be curious about what I had on as well, despite it being only a Tissot or Seiko Presage.

Why would you use such poor examples of vintage watches for a video of this important. That Rolex was made from atleast 2 different watches and the redial on that Omega isn't great.

George Maroufidis bollox if it does.
Before WW2 there was a big interest in speed records. Obviously these required good timekeeping. But most watches couldn’t handle the bumpy ride on leaf sprung sports cars driving on poor quality roads.
Rolex were making very reliable shock proof watches and they were snapped up by drivers and navigators. By the late 30s Rolex we’re making specific SpeedKing watches that could handle the rough ride.
By 1939 the air war over Europe had started and RAF crews snapped up the SpeedKings, because poor timekeeping could now mean death.
By 1944 these air crews were being celebrated with the Air King watch.
Rolex were making amazing watches way before 1953.

Give an Omega watchmaker a Rolex and he goes "ahm yeah, ok". Give him a PP, VC or JLC and he wants to admire the finissage inside and study the complications.

I personally think that Omega's dive watches are more appealing than those of Rolex, but again, that's my opinion. A Planet Ocean - to me - puts the Deep Ocean to shame in every aspect 😁
