@wuhanclan i agree, thats exactly my point i was making as well, if you dont want a Rolex there are loads of other options you could go for rather than just picking the most un-Rolex Rolex. Like the Railmaster for example, which is totally awesome by the way 👍

Omega wins big time here. The only thing Rolex has over it is superior marketing and a cult-like following. Dont get me wrong, I have 2, a Datejust and an Explorer, but speaking to which watch is an actual better watch...Omega. In my opinion, of course.

@Kit Johnson If you use watches like market stocks, yes. We're supposed to be people who get the watches we like and the best value for our money. And by value I don't mean resale value, I mean technology, capabilities, design, etc. People can't call themselves watch aficionados if the main problem they face is resale value. Just because the watch’s manufacturer states 1000 gauss and the name is 1000 gauss does not preclude the watch from being able to handle higher magnetic fields than the omega or other watches. Correction: The Railmaster is rated to withstand a 1.5 Tesla magnet. My conversation was off by a decimal point. Still, the movement in the Railmaster is made from nonferrous parts and can probably withstand more magnetism than it's been tested to. To put things in perspective with the performance, a MRI machine at a hospital will have 1500-3000 gauss. That means you don't want the Rolex anywhere near the radiology department. The Omega on the other hand is just fine. The milgauss should just be considered a luxury fashion watch rather than a tool watch.
Your numbers are missing a zero at the end. 30000 gauss (= 3 Tesla) is the industry standard these days. 15000 gauss can typically be found in open MRI-scanners. It is quite impressive that a modern Omega can be unaffected in some MRI-machines. No other watches are remotely close to this as far as I know.
I love this Omega Railmaster. It does have a bit of this vintage touch and the watch is also totally in brushed steel. No polish anywhere. The dial is amazing I would hesitate between the black dial or the grey dial. In terms of anti magnetism, the movement inside (8806) is almost identical to the one of the latest seamaster 300 (8800) so you can't say this watch has specific anti magnetic capabilities. All Omega master chronometer have it today. The Rolex is nice too but way too expensive compared to this Omega.

The Milgauss has a non-Rolex, Rolex quality that I love (and have). I have to say for everyday wear, the Omega is definitely the winner. Why not love both...after all both are neither dive watch, nor a chronograph, but something different. Great video Teddy!
I'm more of an Omega guy, but I love the Z-Blue Milgauss, and can't take the fake patina of the Omega (the denim blue version is better in that sense). FYI, I've seen two reports that took the Milgauss up to 5,000 to 7,000 gauss without trouble - it was the highest rating the generators could go to. So in that sense the 1,000 gauss spec matches the name, but can really go much higher.
Yes. I was told by a watch specialist that the Milgauss outperforms the omega in reality but Rolex maintains the name Milgauss out of sheer royalty. Makes sense. Why would you change the name of the modern Milgauss to quinmillegauss or some weird name like that. Just because a manufacturer states one is 150m water resistant doesn’t mean it’s 300m water resistant and vise versa. I have 100m Casios that had sealed cases and were water-logged in 1 foot of water. I’ve taken watches that has no water resistant rating in 15 feet deep pools for hours with no issues. You can apply similar properties to various high end watches
I am a fan of the Milgauss. It's a tribute to the engineers (my field) of the past. And, I'm not ever going to be a diver, so the typical Rolex diver watches are not high on my list. The Milgauss is understated and few would know it is a Rolex unless they are familiar with the Milgauss and the story behind the model. Setting aside cost, my vote for my favorite of the two is the Milgauss.
I really love the Omega. It’s simple yet very elegant at the same time. That blue dial is just beautiful to look at. It’s not ultra flashy either which I enjoy. The railmaster looks very refined and can be used for several different occasions. This will definitely be the first Omega I purchase when I finish grad school. Keep up the great content Teddy. I’ve learned so much from watching your videos.
Omega for me. Love the Railmaster design. That Rolex second hand is far too overpowering/distracting and that lightning bolt design seems plain silly. Great review as always Teddy!
Rolex gets a fair bit of criticism for not being a bit more audacious with their designs. The Milgauss has some character and I wish there was a way for Rolex to take a chance on new designs more often. I don't know if they can walk that line, though, considering consistency and a unified design language is one of their biggest competitive advantages over Omega.
@Kit Johnson Taste is not objective, to me, the railmaster looks like the stupid son of an oyster perpetual with an Invicta, and it is nearly double the price (new prices on Chrono 24) you only got a better bracelet? No way. The way to go is the blue one, the faux patina makes me cringe a little
Great video. Really enjoy all of your content on here. Keep it coming! This is an interesting comparison because, aside from the magnetic field resistance, I think these are different watches. The Milgauss is a pretty "loud" watch for a Rolex. I generally consider the brand to be conservative. The blue dial, green crystal, the seconds hand all really jump out at you. Not typical Rolex to me (and I like it). The Railmaster, on the other hand, is pretty subdued. For a watch with arguably better technical stats, it completely hides all of that horsepower under the hood so to speak. To someone who doesn't know the history of these models, the Milgauss clearly shows its "electrifying" intent. But the Railmaster just looks like a vintage inspired classy watch, its magnetic prowess completely hidden. If I had the money, I'd own both and I think they would each suit different occasions. But if I had to pick one, it would be the Omega. Just my opinion. Teddy, I'm curious what you think of the 60th anniversary models, specifically the Railmaster. Do you like that Omega almost perfectly replicated the original, or would you rather have a more modern version of the watch? Just curious.
Several days ago I was introduced to the regional sales manager for Omega at an event at my local jewelery store. I was unaware of the Railmaster line until he showed me the blue denim dial version. I love the watch and (if I don't go broke first) it will be my next watch. Thank's for the great review, Teddy!
I agree with Teddy the Mille is more beautiful in the metal. As for versatility, you need to consider that both watches have dial & crystal options. If a blue dial/green crystal is too outrageous for your tastes, consider a black or white dialed Milgauss (with clear crystal) on the used market. Even the black dialed GV (still in production) is tame compared to the blue dialed GV. The Omega caliber 8806 is a great movement with 55 hrs of power reserve. The Rolex caliber 3131 is 10 years older, and only has 48 hrs of reserve. The 3131 is no slouch, though, and is regulated by Rolex to +/- 2 seconds per day. Finally, I think many people overstate the difference in magnetic field resistance between these two watches. The 1st-generation Milgauss, which launched in 1956, was certified to 1 thousand gauss. Rolex hasn't updated magnetic resistance specs for the Milgauss since. But the model discussed here is the 3rd-generation Milgauss (2007). And the addition of the parachrom hairspring (introduced in 2000) likely means the actual magnetic performance of the 3rd-generation Rolex Milgauss is much closer to that of the current Omega Railmaster. Both are good watches. I prefer the Milgauss.
Magnetism can come from literally everywhere now. You phone, laptop, speakers, card readers, wireless chargers, fans, electric motors. Pretty much unavoidable.
most watches are protected against those levels of magnetism though. these are meant for people people who work in commercial/industrial plants or stuff like that.
Great comparison. Sadly, most people compare the Railmaster to the Explorer instead of the Milgauss. For me, it’s a no brainer...hands down, Omega. But, for the love of God, why no exhibition case back? 🤷♂️ I also share your feelings about the Omega bracelet as a strap would be a far superior choice. I do like it that this reference, clearly a tool watch, isn’t as polished and shiny as the trilogy release in the same year. More subdued, versatile, and manlier imo. FWIW, please consider showcasing your straps as you have a knack for style that many of us lack. 🖐
I think timex heard your older video about them. I just saw their new line up and they look good. Is there anyway you could do a video on them because I’m thinking about getting one but want your opinion?
The winner for Milgauss vs Railmaster is ... Air King. Same movement & case as the Milgauss as well as same anti magnetic properties. It’s also cheaper
Thanks for the video Teddy. Please do more videos like this! I'm typically an Omega Guy & I think the Railmaster is a better watch but that Rolex really speaks to me
Both great watch’s and worthy adversary’s . I think looking for a good deal on a pre owned rail master then putting it on a nato would be a lot of fun. Great review.
Great head to head; lots to like about both of these watches. The twisted lugs, arabic numerals, cross hair and triangular indices all make the Railmaster a more interesting to me. I couldn't agree more that an exhibition back to show off an awesome co-axial movement would far outweigh any antimagnetic properties the solid back provides. Oh, and my Nodus Contrail 39 satisfies the itch for this style watch and is easier on the wallet.
So regarding the magnetic resistance, Teddy and lots of commenters are saying that the Railmaster wins hands down. It's actually not that simple. Milgauss is just 1000 gauss. That was the original rating of the Rolex, and the name. Since then, they've updated the hairspring material and made other changes, which most likely improved the magnetic resistance greatly. How much? Rolex won't say. More than the Railmaster? Again unknown, but it's probably ahead or at least pretty close.
I’d go Railmaster. Looks classic and the texture on the dial is great. Can’t get my head around the lightening bolt on the Rolex and the green crystal. Is there a historical reason for the green crystal?
I tried this Omega and found the bracelet to be too sharp on the edges for me. I really liked the watch in general, but some extra finishing would have been nice.
Have had my heart set on the blue faced version of the Omega since launch. Alas being on a rail workers pay with a family in these cost of living crisis times it doesn’t look like I will own one anytime soon. Master piece of classic watch design.
The Railmaster is my choice. It's available now NIB from grey market sellers at about $3,300. Or you can buy direct from Omega who will size the bracelet at no cost for a 5" to 9:5" wrist. That's a big savings alone for those of us who need 2-3 extra links! You can order from Omega and have it mailed to you. That's pretty cool too.
Love the milgauss crystal and overall color scheme! The Omega is a classic too...hard to choose 🤔 I think I'd have to choose...neither. I don't have enough money for either of these 😂
Well done video on two watches I will never purchase. I have a Citizen Promaster Tough (BN0211-50E) which fills this niche better for me and costs way less (sub $300). If I need an elapsed time bezel (like on some Milgauss versions), I can wear my Citizen Promaster Diver (BN0191-55L) (also sub $300) which shares the same antimagnetic rating (4800). I know people shopping for Rolex or Omega watches have different priorities than I do, so my comments are really for people looking for more affordable options.
Nice review as usual dude. Both beautiful watches by themselves. However, placing them together, the Milgaus certainly has more presence. Again, with the Milgaus it's not everyone's cup of tea! Price wise the Omega wins hands down of course. I would choose the Milgaus any day, however I don't have 8 grand to spend either 😏. Thx for this review.....
I think if someone had free reign then they would be silly to choose the omega over the Rolex. If both were the same price and unbranded 90% of people would pick the Rolex
Two years on, the Omega looks better because you can actually buy one. Try walking into a Rolex AD and telling them you want to buy, well, anything other than a President . . .
J.J. H: It's hideously ugly and despite the roots from the 1950s, still out of character for a Rolex. Much too much a gimmick, it looks like a toy watch feature.
Patrick De Haan That’s what arguably makes it super unique to me. I think it’s value will be very high in 20-25 years from now since it’s out of production. To me, it’s going to fetch figures like the rainbow dial Daytona one day; it’s crazy yet iconic in it’s own right due to the design. Just my prediction
I’ll take them both... it’s hard to make a decision. So send them to me so I can evaluate them more closely! 🤠 I do love the railmaster dial! It also doesn’t hurt that the Omega is 60% of the cost!
Excellent video - well laid out compare/contrast. The Milgauss has always been my '1st buy after winning the lottery' watch (and would get the white dial too, just because I could). That iconic lightning bolt second hand. But you lay out the compelling case for the Railmaster. And Omega should hire you as a consultant - the clear back on the Railmaster would be sick!
The antimagnetic properties of Ball are way below either, though, only making the minimal standard to be considered antimagnetic. Ball definitely has the rail heritage, though, but that's not really all these watches are about; scientific equipment is a big part of their theoretical exposure.
Love the Milgauss... love the Railmaster. Hate the green crystal... hate the faux patina. In this matchup, I’d take the Milgauss. If you put a white or black Milgauss and a denim Railmaster in front of me, although I’d choose the Milgauss, the margin would be VERY narrow.
Because of magnetic resistance, I understand the Railmaster vs Milgauss comparison, BUT the Rolex Explorer seems to be more the equivalent competitor of the Railmaster. In that comparison, I believe the Omega prevails.
Hi Teddy, what adds more value yo a collection a brand new Omega blue dial Railmaster from gray market or pre owned with still 2 and half years of warranty? Thanks.
I absolutely adore the unique looks of the Z-blue Milgauss, but I like the case size and the movement of the Railmaster more. I woulda tried to buy a Milgauss if it rocked something like a small amagnetic caliber 2232 and make the overall case smaller like the Explorer
I like the green crystal and crazy second hand on the Rolex. If the lug to lug was a little shorter and metal portion was more subdued like on the Omega, it would be perfect
Rail master has come up on my radar as an alternative to an Explorer. Getting a bit bored with the waiting list game and discounts mean I could save a bundle. But would it scratch that itch? Not sure.
Basically where I am too. Helps that I need to “save up the money” per the wife. Thus, waiting is a necessity and not a choice. I do own an Omega, so my plan is to hold on for the Explorer. We’ll see what happens when I actually the money for a Railmaster but still need to hold out for the Rolex.
I like both, but own the Omega because I am more of an omega guy, prefer the case design and love me a classic 3,6,9,12 dial. I actually think the railmaster is sort of a competitor for the rolex explorer as well as the milgauss. However 100% agree the bracelet on the omega is a let down... so thats why I wear mine on leather/sailcloth
I think the railmaster is a really nice watch. I just don‘t get why Omega sell them with the weird herringbone strap. It looks amazing on a brown leather strap with white stitching. Curious to see how they will continue or reinvent the watch though now that it’s being discontinued.
In my opinion i think the milgauss is better. It may not be in terms specs-wise but it sure is very peculiar. That uniqueness is what draws me into the watch
Both watches are great but the Rolex has polish links and will show scratches so much more and the Omega being more of a every day watch makes it way more versatile you cant go wrong. But if you Wang a weekend watch and want to be a show off I would go with the Rolex but I'm not that kinda a person.4 months later had to add that seeing the Milgauss on the wrist and outside thats Mulgauss does pop in a nice way.
Omega! No doubt. Liked it so much I purchased silver dial on bracelet and silver dial on leather nato strap. The movement is superior to Rolex. Omega great watch , history.....
What could have been better is if Omega would have used “applied markers” on the dial of the Railmaster. The dial looks very flat in its current configuration.
thanks for the review. they both are awesome watches. which one I would choose? I would choose Rolex for weekend and Omega for weekdays. I just need to find the money to buy both of them. ha ha ha thanks again for your wonderful review. Teddy.
It’s super hard to choose and one that I’ve been debating myself. I ended up going with the Railmaster because the specs are better imo. But I personally couldn’t do the all brushed case as it was too “tooly” for me. The Milly remains my grail and one I’ll be hunting for next although personally, I prefer the non green AR crystal versions. You really can’t go wrong with each, but the Omega bracelet was a big let down, but I can see how the Omega would be the smarter choice if you’re looking for a true anti-magnetic tool watch. The higher WR resistance and screw down crown of the Omega is a huge bonus. That lightning bolt seconds hand and dial is hard to beat.....winner is Rolex for me. -Kat @a_girl_and_her_watches
HeyTeddy, you missed the IWC Ingenieur, which could have been compared simultaneously. Designed by G. Genta, I believe. I like all 3 of these watches, but would go for Omega in real life due to price. The Rolex is great, as it maintains brand character while adding the playful element. The IWC is almost a comical version of a scientist's watch- all mechanical-like. Prices are Rolex $7k (used), Omega $3.5k (on Amazon new), and IWC $3.5k (used). Have they stopped making the Milgauss? Or just artificially restricting supply?
Great video. Been loving your content lately. Especially the reviews. Keep it It up. Gotta go with the Milgauss. It's my grail watch, along with a JLC Reverso Duo face. It's so beautiful. To me the rail master looks like so many vintage remakes out there. No near as unique. I could scratch that itch for 300-600 with a microbrand. Now the Milgauss is unique. Plus Rolex holds its value much better and I belive the Milgauss will go up in value. But I would never sell mine when I get it.
Something about the Railmaster’s dial just doesn’t work for me. It just looks incredibly flat, I definitely prefer Omega as a brand but I can’t get behind the RM.
Love the Omega! Especially with those twisted lugs and the dial texture. I think the versatility really puts it over the top.
I like them both and have the Migauss. It's the perfect Rolex for someone who doesn't want a Rolex. :).
If you dont want a Rolex....don't get a Rolex?
The Milgauss is the best everyday watch made by Rolex due to its antimagnetic and anti shock qualities.

One of your best head to head video 👍🙋♂️
I really love the Omega. It’s simple yet very elegant at the same time. That blue dial is just beautiful to look at. It’s not ultra flashy either which I enjoy. The railmaster looks very refined and can be used for several different occasions. This will definitely be the first Omega I purchase when I finish grad school.
Keep up the great content Teddy. I’ve learned so much from watching your videos.
So did you buy the Omega after grad school?
Omega for me. Love the Railmaster design. That Rolex second hand is far too overpowering/distracting and that lightning bolt design seems plain silly. Great review as always Teddy!
Railmaster 😍 you got to love that dial, it's like 8 faces in one!
Ik, specially with those curved lugs
Rolex gets a fair bit of criticism for not being a bit more audacious with their designs. The Milgauss has some character and I wish there was a way for Rolex to take a chance on new designs more often. I don't know if they can walk that line, though, considering consistency and a unified design language is one of their biggest competitive advantages over Omega.
I love the railmaster! Great watch. It's less expensive and out performes the Rolex. What more could you want?
Can’t get any uglier than the Rolex with the toy looking lighting bolt
Not really in the market for either, but the new Milgauss with that blue dial and the green tint crystal is just a knock out IMHO.
Railmaster should absolutely murder the modern milgauss. Better overall design, and it features the coaxial escapement!
Several days ago I was introduced to the regional sales manager for Omega at an event at my local jewelery store. I was unaware of the Railmaster line until he showed me the blue denim dial version. I love the watch and (if I don't go broke first) it will be my next watch. Thank's for the great review, Teddy!
Milgauss all the way! I love how the dial pops. Wearing mine right now. Great video!
I'd love to see a video on every major luxury brands most value packed new watch one of these day Teddy boy
I have the White dial Milgauss, Rolex’s “red headed stepchild”. But I also like the Railmaster. 15,000 gauss is pretty impressive.
It’s a great Rolex, you differentiate yourself from the sub wearing muscle shirt guy in the gym, and it’s younger and fresher than a Datejust.
So excited im about to pick up my z blue Milgauss next week!
The winner for Milgauss vs Railmaster is ... Air King. Same movement & case as the Milgauss as well as same anti magnetic properties. It’s also cheaper
Thanks for the video Teddy. Please do more videos like this! I'm typically an Omega Guy & I think the Railmaster is a better watch but that Rolex really speaks to me
Happy to see a new video! Great video Teddy.
Thanks panther!
I didn't think you would pick the Omega. I am shocked and pleasantly surprised.
I tried this Omega and found the bracelet to be too sharp on the edges for me. I really liked the watch in general, but some extra finishing would have been nice.
I have this watch, and I’ve never once felt sharpness while wearing it. It’s actually incredibly smooth on wrist
The Omega is a classic too...hard to choose 🤔
I think I'd have to choose...neither. I don't have enough money for either of these 😂
I went into this liking the railmaster but after spending time with the Milgauss more I was swayed a bit..
Teddy Baldassarre maybe you should edit the video then 😂
@@TeddyBaldassarre just buy both... then
Railmaster all the way for me! Sold my explorer, glad i never got the Milgauss, although best from Rolex imo.
I hope Teddy can go back and give us a full review of the Railmaster. It's probably the best Omega value out there.
I like the Omega better, just because I don't like the look of the MILGAUSS. And yes,you should definitely do more comparison videos! Keep it up Teddy
Philip Sta Maria: Yea, dude.
I think if someone had free reign then they would be silly to choose the omega over the Rolex. If both were the same price and unbranded 90% of people would pick the Rolex
Two years on, the Omega looks better because you can actually buy one.
Try walking into a Rolex AD and telling them you want to buy, well, anything other than a President . . .
The Railmaster wins on paper, but the Milgauss has a freakin’ LIGHTNING BOLT for a second hand.
Considered them both; went with the Air-King.
Really enjoyed this video Teddy!
I like these kind of videos, keep ‘em coming!
I'd say Ball watches beats both of them when it comes to Rail mastering :)
iSirPS: In the subjective looks dept, MAYBE but when it comes to the movement, the Rolex and Omega are both leagues better.
The antimagnetic properties of Ball are way below either, though, only making the minimal standard to be considered antimagnetic. Ball definitely has the rail heritage, though, but that's not really all these watches are about; scientific equipment is a big part of their theoretical exposure.
TEDDY!!!! YESSSSSS The milguass is my future Rolex!!!!!
Have been waiting for this video as that exact Milgauss is one of my grails!
Omega, all the way.
Dope review. I like the Railmaster even more now. I think I should buy it on the bracelet and get straps later. What are you guys' thoughts?
I agree 100%
I don't like the printed font of the numbers on the Omega. So I would go for the Millgaus.
I think the railmaster is a really nice watch. I just don‘t get why Omega sell them with the weird herringbone strap. It looks amazing on a brown leather strap with white stitching. Curious to see how they will continue or reinvent the watch though now that it’s being discontinued.
Maybe I have a different taste than most. But I love the look of the Milgauss. Especially the green sapphire crystal.
The problem with this particular Omega watch is the printed dial which is cost cutting and cheap looking!
Ahmed Attar: Agreed; the RM should have an applied Greek letter Omega ♎️
Omega! No doubt. Liked it so much I purchased silver dial on bracelet and silver dial on leather nato strap. The movement is superior to Rolex. Omega great watch , history.....
Milguass- no comparison:-) ....great video
What could have been better is if Omega would have used “applied markers” on the dial of the Railmaster. The dial looks very flat in its current configuration.
The Railmaster is supposed to look retro. With applied markers, it would basically be an Aqua Terra
thanks for the review. they both are awesome watches. which one I would choose?
I would choose Rolex for weekend and Omega for weekdays. I just need to find the money to buy both of them. ha ha ha
thanks again for your wonderful review. Teddy.
What is tour opinion about Rado watched Teddy?

@a_girl_and_her_watches
I just can't get over the Lightning Bolt, seconds hand on the Milgauss. I know it's just a matter of taste, but it bothers me.
I like the blue dial on the milguass
HeyTeddy, you missed the IWC Ingenieur, which could have been compared simultaneously. Designed by G. Genta, I believe. I like all 3 of these watches, but would go for Omega in real life due to price. The Rolex is great, as it maintains brand character while adding the playful element. The IWC is almost a comical version of a scientist's watch- all mechanical-like. Prices are Rolex $7k (used), Omega $3.5k (on Amazon new), and IWC $3.5k (used). Have they stopped making the Milgauss? Or just artificially restricting supply?
Drooling over that omega
Great video. Been loving your content lately. Especially the reviews. Keep it It up. Gotta go with the Milgauss. It's my grail watch, along with a JLC Reverso Duo face. It's so beautiful. To me the rail master looks like so many vintage remakes out there. No near as unique. I could scratch that itch for 300-600 with a microbrand. Now the Milgauss is unique. Plus Rolex holds its value much better and I belive the Milgauss will go up in value. But I would never sell mine when I get it.
Omega 😁 as always great info and show thanks 🙏
I would buy a Sinn 556i. Great video, I know which watch Alpha M would choose.
Darryl Fraser: The hands on many Sinn models look too short, IMHO.
The Railmaster looks more legit and it's technical specs are better. The Milgauss is more of a jewelry watch and is for show.
You can't have a see through case back on a anti magnetic watch.. there has to be a cage to protect the movement.. right? Or am I talking crap?
John the Greek I never thought of that. Excellent point. Thank you!
And now imagine that Omega has got an even better offer - the Railmaster with the denim dial and without this ridiculous fault patina! 😉
Claus-L. Müller: Omega now offers a Railmaster without the fake aged luminosity? Really?
Patrick De Haan there’s a blue dial with white lume.
faux not fault
And guess what - just two years later I have ordered this version with its stellar dial aaaand - yes, the fault patina! 😉
Between this two I would go with the Omega but the original Milgauss is way better than the Railmaster.
Railmaster - but a strap instead of the bracelet
Something about the Railmaster’s dial just doesn’t work for me. It just looks incredibly flat, I definitely prefer Omega as a brand but I can’t get behind the RM.
Which has the better resale value?
White Dial Milgauss is a grail of mine
