  • This is a gem in the Seamaster line up that gets passed over frequently. In this video we look at the valid reasoning for that. If your an Omega fan like me, I think this would make a solid accent pick up. Thanks for watching today!

I picked up the denim dial variant second hand and it's been a complete winner for me. On a fabric or leather strap it's a perfect casual daily wear, low key from a distance, but full of detail up close, and very reliable as a timekeeper.

This one would be a perfect exit watch for the guy tired of the usual cycle (new release /excitement / purchase / fatigue / resell at a loss) and ever going unobtainable Rolex stories on YT.
One under the radar very good watch that does not get you heart racing, but that’ll be a trusty companion for many years.

I love the understated manner of this watch. Designing the vintage look with superlume is not a crime in my eyes. I buy a watch for its design elements and functionality and this design speaks to me although it doesn't seem to many others including even Omega lovers. It's not readily available at the OB but they sourced if from another boutique nearby. So I know it's rare and that what I prefer. Might get discontinued like the did it in 2012 with the previous version. I am not investing or thinking of resale value either. I wanna wear it and hand down to my son as a piece that I like and have worn for a long time. Great review Bruce with a different take. I think that's what watch collecting is all about. Having a perspective and buying pieces that one really loves for whatever reason.

I have the darker dial version, and I find the all brushed bracelet to be one of the best Bracelets Omega has produced to date in terms of comfort and fit. Agree 100% that fauxtina works here. Disagree with the idea that anyone would ever dismiss it outright. It’s just another color for times when white lume looks too clinical, which it often does. It always depends on how it compliments the dial. The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical, is a well-known example of a watch that benefits tremendously from this warmer lume treatment.

I think the fundamental issue is still the Aqua Terra being so versatile with its expansive lineup, and there seems to be one for everyone.
Further, I agree - the butterfly clasp does not suit this piece.
Overall, this is one instance where we see the huge array of choices in Omega's lineup being a double-edged sword. Pieces like this are being outdone by others within its own lineup, or maybe more appropriately, this is overshadowed to the mainstream public. I think the biggest thing holding this line back is the name: Railmaster. Being associated with a diminished, sleepy industry is just not sexy. But this is a great adventure watch - especially with the brushed finish and rock solid movement. Give it an air or land sports name, and it becomes a more attractive alternative to the Rolex Explorer. Maybe the Airmaster, Trailmaster, Trialmaster, Questmaster, etc. Adventurous is so much better to be affiliated with for this type of watch than sleepy and old.

As someone who is a huge Omega fan and owns a few of them, I am not impressed with the quality of the print and finish of the dial. The tracks around the rim and edges of the lume just don't seem up to Omega's usual high standards.
Combine that with how similar this looks to an Aqua Terra which seems to be more premium, even at a glance, I can see why the Rail Master isn't as popular. The butterfly clasp is also a weird choice on a not so dressy watch.

    • @MrHyde14537
      @MrHyde14537 3 года назад

@@mitchdresner3069 Iook at the dial close up at 4:17, especially the rough edges of the lume at the 8 o'clock. The Aqua Terra has polished, applied indices with very sharp edges, crisper finishing on the grooved dial, and very crisp printing around the edge of the dial. The finishing seems a few steps above on the Aqua Terra. Add in the polished surfaces, and it's obviously a much dressier watch, for which a butterfly clasp fits. If you see one up close, the difference would be very obvious. The Rail Master seems rougher and more toolish for which a regular clasp would probably be a better fit.

i wonder if someone makes a sapphire caseback for this it would be nice to swap out the metal one for a clear one , also there is no good butterfly clasp anywhere , they are all ass and dig into the wrist unless you have dinky female wrists .

It was my first choice in the Trilogy Series, until i tried it on and was small, i think the size has alot to do with it, as does the Engineer aspect, same as Milguass with the popularity aspect. I really cant explain it but i feel like it might have something to do with it. But i aesthetically speaking the model you have here i really like it.

I really like this .No micro is a deal breaker . As you say Bruce there are a few drawbacks but it’s still a great watch ..

I was seriously looking to buy one once and went to an AD, what I didn't like was the flat printed dial on both the blue and black dials. However the rest of the watch is quality.

You got one thing wrong. It's not the best looking movment, that's ok, but it's the best movment, just look at stats. It's amazing how good the movment is for the price.

8800 is a great piece of kit, no question. Wish it had jumping hour hand like the 8900 has.

Its a solid movement I've owned a couple. Not the best imo, but very good for the price

Can only support what others mentioned already: like the watch, but for that price want to have a date complication - even if this spoils the railmaster concept - the micro adjustment for the bracelet and a sapphire caseback.

Blue denim dial is the best

Great video Bruce. What do you think of the denim with the white markers? Agreed with your take on the bracelet. Needs a mirco-adjust at the price point.

The only one that grabbed me was this silver dial. The all silver tone, all brush finish just worked well. Greater than the other options imo

The dial is just a little too reflective for my liking. I really like the blue (denim looking) dial version however.
    Fully brushed watches are underrated.

Since I love my Sinn 556 and love Omega, the Railmaster could well be my favorite daily watch. But somehow it doesn’t work for me. Compared to the Seamaster 300 Coaxial, it’s very underwhelming. You mentioned all the disadvantages. Plus the dial doesn’t convince me. I think that is a pity, a Railmaster could be the perfect Watch, if Omega would care more. Cheers from Switzerland

Im rolling the Railmaster as a One-Watch-Guy and I would say the watch is not overlooked or underrated. You have to have a very certain taste to like this watch. I try to axplain it this way: for most people this watch is like most watches are for me - I appreciate them for what they are and can see, how and why people want watches like Daytonas but they are not quite mine. And I think most people view the Railmaster that way. I better stop here or I will post at least 10k words.

An Omega Seamaster diver 300M has gone up £1,800-£2000 in price in the UK after coming out the EU. Nearly double bubble VAT...

Held one a few days ago at the AD, the dial just didn’t do it for me. Very flat, no depth I would out my money to the diver pro

True, I had one on when deciding between this and my Explorer. In the end, the lack of any applied features + dial colour made the dial look flat and drab.

  • @tdon4271

The clasp is the major deal breaker for me. The bracelet itself I like but hate the clasp. With a wrist that swells during hot and humid weather and to not be able to adjust it on the fly makes it a watch that you don't wish to wear that often. I can live with the dial color but I think that the hour and minute hands could be trimmed in black so as to stand out along with the 3-6-9-12 lettering, because sometimes when looking at the dial from different angles everything seems to blend together. Overall, I love the build and quality of this model. The features that it has is outstanding for its price point. I think that with some minor tweaking this model could be an Explorer slayer.
