This Railmaster is a beauty of design and engineering without the ostentatious bling of so many watches in this class. The features all seem so well thought out. So glad to see Omega has brought it back, hopefully to stay so we can add it to our collection
I bought this Railmaster last year. It’s easily the best watch in my collection, it’s easily my favorite best wearing watch. Initially I’d only wear the watch before and after work, why job is rather physical including running some machinery. After a few months I simply found myself wearing it to work. I may regret that somewhere down the road, but for now, all is good, it runs best actively worn in a daily basis though I believe that goes for my entire collection. One thing about the Railmaster - in general, the brushing is often rather subtle, even absent such as direct, full light, it looks ink black, bottomless. It takes on grays, a touch of purple at times. The lume modulates in color a bit too though not to the degree of the dial. The hands being brushed, as the angle of light changes, so does your perception of the watch. I will suggest that the lyre lugs look better with a strap if some kind, they get lost with the fitted end links. I’ve got the denim strap which is great though too short. With respect to size, obviously it needs to fit the wearer. That aside, as an object, it really looks superbly balanced in a way that of all my watches it neither seems to wear large or small relative to its measurements - it simply looks right in terms of form. I would out of curiosity like to try on a 38 Aqua Terra or 39mm Globemaster which uses a different case to see how they wear. I believe Omega has a good eye for watches this size and they should offer more.
Thank you very much for this review. Im planning on buying my dad this watch next year for his 50th birthday. He's worked on the railway his whole life so seems a perfect big birthday gift!
I’ve watched many reviews of this watch and yours is by far the best I’ve seen. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make it. I’m about to purchase my very first high-end watch for the first (and probably last) time and I think I’ve settled on getting this one. I love its understated quality.
What a great review! Thanks very much for taking the time to put it together. As the proud owner of a blue SMP and a white dialed Aqua Terra, the black Railmaster always feels like a "logical" black dialed watch in my collection. It is a bit less flashy than the other two, has a distinct look and is very very wearable, unlike the Planet Ocean for instance. Just one little remark. I believe the .10. in the reference number, refers to the bracelet and not the watch itself being stainless steel. Since the versions with a strap instead of a bracelet have a .12. in the reference number as the only difference.
I've bought and sold watches for years, this is by far one of the best reviews I've ever watched, maybe it's because I'm from the North East like yourself haha, no messing about. As good as it gets.
What an informative/thorough review. I usually don't listen to reviews over 5-6 minutes, but your's was so interesting and thorough I listened to the entire 19+ minutes. And I LOVE the looks of this simple, uncluttered, and easily readible dial. I prefer the black with herring-bone nylon strap.
Definitely not too long for me. I love this type of informative review. Knowing the provenance of a watch adds so much kudos to the ownership. Thanks for putting so much effort into your content.
This isn’t the first RUclips review of this watch however, it is one of the best. Great context and superb video and macro shots. This one is still at the top of my next watch shopping list.
Not the most prolific reviewer, but certainly one of the best. Well researched, original approach. Also good angles, viewpoints, including the shallow ones that reveal the texture of dials. The one I always watch, even if I have no interest in the watch itself.
Thanks very much Carlos, your kind words are much appreciated. Due to other commitments its never possible for me to post as often as I would like but when I do, I do my best to produce engaging content
Extremely well done review. Kudos. As someone who does watch reviews myself, I recognize a thorough, informative and interesting video. It's all about telling a good story and you did!
Well made video. Very informative. Close up shots are crisp. I own a silver dial version for more than a year now. It's my daily beater. You are right about the metal bracelet. I couldn't keep them away for leather. Simply the best wearable under the radar watch. Most importantly one can hardly notice any scratches on the watch as they are completely brushed. Hope you are enjoying your watch 👍🏼
That watch is freaking awesome it makes me feel like a Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series Swiss Made with that functionality, reliability and resistance. I want it bad!!!
Great review… watched several for this watch and really enjoyed you giving the history of the watch over the decades… I now feel the confidence in soon owning this model. Much appreciated!
Fantastic review. However, it provides some inaccuracies regarding magnetic fields. Airport x-ray machines, microwaves and radar do not generate significant magnetic fields; they generate electromagnet radiation, which are wavelengths of light. (The word “electromagnetic” is misleading.). However, MRI machines, power plant generators, railroad diesel/generator locomotives and large electric motors produce LARGE magnetic fields. Airport security metal-detector “gateways” and “wands” also generate a small magnetic field to detect ferrous objects. The arch (gateway) metal detector one walks through at the airport is not an x-ray machine; it is a magnetic field that could affect simple watches. That’s why I put my watch in a tray through the x-ray machine, and do not wear it walking through the “arch” metal detector. My next watch will be the Seamaster Railmaster.
Thanks for the insight Gary, I was trying to be informative without bogging my audience down with the science, being a techy guy I appreciate you taking the time to explain the finer detail
Good review- Im not a fan of the painted low budget retro dial but if the Aqua Tera was offered in this all brushed case finish I’d buy it in a second!
I have one of these and also a Rolex Milgauss. I love both of these watches and they both do their jobs perfectly. However, my Railmaster had it’s first 2 years of wear on a railway construction project in the Middle East. It’s the perfect watch: not gaudy and in the face of those earning much less than me but not showing any of the many bumps that it has acquired so far. It has more sharp corners than the Milgauss but nothing that inconvenience you during normal daily wear. To date I haven’t damaged the anti-reflective coating on the glass either, a surprise as this is usually the first thing I scrape. It’s a great watch, just lookout for the cost of an Omega service as they tend to be expensive.
Last Watch the opposite, I think Grand Seiko’s are more beautiful than most Omegas. And the 9F movement is going to be more robust than any mechanical movement.
I've been looking at various videos regarding this watch as I'm very interested in aquiring one. your is "by far" the most complete and well done of all I've seen, thank you for your efforts, precisoins ans expertise! Great job!!!
Thank you for an excellent review. The Railmaster hits my sweet spot for watches- minimalist tool watch/field watch, no date, well designed, a pleasure to look at, easy to read. I’ve been considering it for my next watch. This has helped. My daily driver is a Sinn which checked all those boxes, save for movement and the amount of anti-magnetic properties (though it has some). Is the Railmaster worth $2500 more? It just might be.
My Aquaterra has multiple visible scratches on the topside AR coating. Love the watch, but the scratches hurt and drive me nuts! This because, I have 3 other daily's and 1 dress piece with Saphire glass that don't have a single mark on their crystals.
For those wondering, I have knocked my aqua terra about a bit… There is not a single blemish on the exterior of it that is visible upon close inspection… This could not be said of my Sinn 556, which picked up quite a few exterior scratches.
@@LastWatch oh it’s tough as nails. But the AR coating is quite underwhelming…it had scuffs and scratches quickly. It did not bother me at all though. That said the Omega has been bumped around just as much and has not even a scratch on the coating so I think it’s just a better quality AR or maybe sealed somehow.
@@bashasilvian I absolutely love it! No issues with visibility, lume is gorgeous. I love the understated beauty of the watch. Depending on the room lighting the dial changes color. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Glad you’re happy with that piece. Almost bought that myself, I opted for a more affordable Tudor BB36 black dial. Maybe I’ll save up again for an Omega Speedy.
I ptefer the braod hamd myself and i feel external anti reflective on a tool watch id a bit daft fine on dress or office watches but not on watches that are likely to take some hammer. Lovely watch though
Wow this is beautiful. Im on the fence between this and the new seamaster that has the similar dial. Not sure which one, but i lean towards the one that can be used as a tool watch.
Nice review. Great daily beater. I have the 49.2mm which has been discontinued sometime ago. Not sure why it’s listed on the Omega site though, it’s most certainly no longer available.
I thought you might be interested, curiosity got the better of me and I contacted a boutique and in turn Omega direct. Omega as expected said that it is discontinued, (approx 6/7 years ago). The reference 2806.52.37 is very old one. I think Omega are hesitant to clear discontinued items from their website, directing you to a boutique, obviously it's then the boutique's job to try and redirect something else to the customer. I experienced something similar as I was looking at the Speedmaster Ultraman pretty much knowing it was not available (although the salesperson didn't do a great job). Anyhow, I love my 49.2mm, it's fantastic statement piece. Be happy to for you to review it one day. Carry on the good work !
The Omegas with the Naiad mark on the crown indicates that the crown was Naiad-locked. Since the case-back, rather than the crown, has the Naiad lock, the case is marked with the Naiad emblem instead of the on the crown.
Thanks for the vid! I'm very close to being convinced here! I had plans for 36 Rolex OP / Tudor BB36 and BB58.... But this gives to much more for a similar price! (I can see some on Chrono24 for £3100 which is great).... Good stuff and hope you're enjoying Scotland! I also moved up a few years ago...
You had me until I heard exterior AR coating, ridiculous in a tool watch. I made the mistake of a speedy with external AR. Sold it after putting a big nasty AR scratch twice in a year. Bought the new 3861 that’s omits the external AR.
Does the Railmaster wear big? I have small flat 6inch wrist looking at this or a 38 Aqua terra. I can get the Railmaster however for €2000 less than the AT....
My wrist fluctuates in size, as do most but I reckon Im around 7", my sweet spot is 39mm, the Omega is close enough. If I were you I would try one on in store before you commit
Just seen this review and I’ve been after one of these Railmasters or a Milgauss, but with Rolex prices going mental it’s been a railmaster hunt for the last 2yrs. At last I’ve found a 2019 with Denim strap and I pick it up next Saturday. I’m also tempted to purchase a steel band for it also. Is it worth it do you think ? Looking at £450 for a used band. Thing is I can wear the denim and not draw too much attention as a stainless or other metal band would. Great review
Hi Sean, I'm a fan of bracelets but I'm not sure I would spend so much to get one, the bracelet is OK but lacks fine adjustment. Its always cheaper to get the bracelet on the watch, you pay a premium to pick one up later
@@LastWatch I know it’s a lot of extra money. I’ll be ok with fabric strap and just save up in a few years for a watch with a stainless band. Tudor Ranger or BB58 look nice and are reasonably priced at moment. Thanks for quick reply 👍🏼
I actually need one of these believe it or not. I’ve killed a laptop at work with the magnetism present and people have killed smartphones at my workplace too due to magnetism only
Would really love this in 38mm with an adjustable bracelet and underside AR coating only Alas we can't have it all! No watch is perfect but this is very good.... I'm waiting on a 36mm DateJust but this seems to be much more solid and I wouldn't worry about scratching it up unlike the DJ Just not sure about the 40mm size.... Do you think it suits a 7 inch wrist?
P.s. random question but just in case. I'm in the Borders and work near Edinburgh. Are you on the east coast? I've been asking the ADs in Edinburgh but haven't found a new Railmaster I can try on
@@LastWatch the Railmaster 1957 trilogy version looks much more slender. Mainly due to the case design. The lugs don’t curve down enough to fit smaller wrist. The case profil is quite flat. Well, this is just my feeling and I may be a bit picky here having a small wrist.
i just ordered one, found it for an absolute steal price, i was looking for an everyday resistant watch and found this beauty. How is it holding since it has been a year since you got this one, have you tested the water resistance as well ? Thanks.
@@clash79 I wouldn’t shower with a watch. Soap is a surfactant and could possibly allow soapy water where it otherwise wouldn’t. Steam is another issue.
I bought the Citizen CB3010 - 57L (Titanium and radio controled) some 5 years ago. It has been my everyday wearer since and has been absolutely reliable and a joy to wear. It offers so much for a relatively low price. I have been wearing Citizen for over 30 years and lovr them. Have you come across this model?
Love it. Really torn between this & a ceramic wavy dial 300m Diver.... I'm 50 soon and want a watch to last rest of my life, think a Diver may be too "young" for me as I get old. (?) Excellent review, thank you 👍🏻 Would be interested to hear more about your job, sounds fascinating. Cheers, stay healthy.
I purchased the 300m diver but ended up selling it. I’d go with the railmaster, it swims deep enough but is more versatile. The silver is my favourite in person.
@@LastWatch Well has it become your daily? Has it lived up to your expectations for what a great watch can be? Do you find yourself comparing it to other similar models? Do you still wear it on the bracelet? What are the service intervals?
Back in the day most tool watches cost a couple of hundred bucks, therefore affordable for someone in a decent job. Bringing it up to date, your average train driver in the UK earns £60k+, a luxury watch wouldn’t be a stretch
@@LastWatch Corgeut, on AliExpress. It's pretty much a straight 1 to 1 copy, so it's of zero horological value in itself, but if I like it I'll start saving for the Omega. 👍🏼
Hello Kit. I received my Railmaster homage from the Official Corgeut Store the other day. It took 70 days! It got stuck in Singapore. Worth the wait though. I detect a slight mismatch between the tint of the hands and the indices. Otherwise, it is a great way to "test drive" a very expensive piece.
I’ve killed a laptop at work with the magnetism present and people have killed smartphones at my workplace too due to magnetism only
Where do you work
Would really love this in 38mm with an adjustable bracelet and underside AR coating only
Alas we can't have it all! No watch is perfect but this is very good....
I'm waiting on a 36mm DateJust but this seems to be much more solid and I wouldn't worry about scratching it up unlike the DJ
Just not sure about the 40mm size....
Do you think it suits a 7 inch wrist?
Absolutely, I have a 7" wrist, prefer a 39mm but the Railmaster is close enough
@@LastWatch thank you so much. I think I need to try one on
P.s. random question but just in case. I'm in the Borders and work near Edinburgh. Are you on the east coast? I've been asking the ADs in Edinburgh but haven't found a new Railmaster I can try on
Try giving Laings a call before you head to Edinburgh
Great review for a great watch, nice one mate :)
Thanks a ton!
@@LastWatch no worries, I prefer it to the sea and speed masters in a lot of ways, more classic without trying too hard
Could be the perfect watch but looks a bit chunky to me. At least more than the 1957 LE.
Still have to make my mind... 🤔
Whats your definition of chunky
@@LastWatch the Railmaster 1957 trilogy version looks much more slender. Mainly due to the case design.
The lugs don’t curve down enough to fit smaller wrist. The case profil is quite flat.
Well, this is just my feeling and I may be a bit picky here having a small wrist.
wow, what a great review, thanks!!
I want one 😍
Go for it
You should wear it every day, atleast for a few weeks.
what a great video, well done
Amazing video
Glad you think so!
i just ordered one, found it for an absolute steal price, i was looking for an everyday resistant watch and found this beauty. How is it holding since it has been a year since you got this one, have you tested the water resistance as well ?
Thanks.
This is strictly for special occasions, I have a few other little treasures that get wet
I’ve showered a few times wearing mine, just to know I could do it. No issues, and averages +.5-+1 sec a day consistently
Your Citizen is a slick watch ! It was the Citizen BN0151 that kicked off my channel
Awesome content as always
Many Thanks
That’s my grail watch. I kind of wish it had a date though.
The Eberehard Scientigraf costs way less and has better dial. No in house movement though. But it has Faraday cage
Theres not that much in it
Great go comment on them and let us enjoy real watches cheap ass!
Amazing experience after the BB 58 disaster :)
Many Thanks
What disaster?
Love it. Really torn between this & a ceramic wavy dial 300m Diver.... I'm 50 soon and want a watch to last rest of my life, think a Diver may be too "young" for me as I get old. (?)
Excellent review, thank you 👍🏻
Would be interested to hear more about your job, sounds fascinating.
Cheers, stay healthy.
You are never too old for a diver, I’m 52 ! Get yourself along to an Omega boutique or AD and spend an hour trying on whatever takes your fancy
@@LastWatch thank you for the advice. Yes, I'll try them on & decide then. Cheers mate 👍🏻
I purchased the 300m diver but ended up selling it. I’d go with the railmaster, it swims deep enough but is more versatile. The silver is my favourite in person.
Can you exchange the strap with a total rubber strap?
I should think so
what is your wrist size may I ask?
I like to think I'm a 7" wrist, maybe a little less depending on the weather or lack of activity
You got my sub sir!! Great video
Thanks and welcome
Amazing video thank you!
Glad you liked it!
So did you sell the black bay 58 to get the railmaster?
You need to watch my other videos, the BB58 is gone and I have a Railmaster in it's place
@@LastWatch good call. Much more unique
Nice one 👍
Any longterm review?
I hadn't considered doing one.... until now
OK its been 3yrs, how about that update?
What do you need to know
@@LastWatch Well has it become your daily? Has it lived up to your expectations for what a great watch can be? Do you find yourself comparing it to other similar models? Do you still wear it on the bracelet? What are the service intervals?
Wonder how many railworkers could afford that and no rail company is going to give it out as equipment. You get a timex if your lucky.
Back in the day most tool watches cost a couple of hundred bucks, therefore affordable for someone in a decent job. Bringing it up to date, your average train driver in the UK earns £60k+, a luxury watch wouldn’t be a stretch
I've got a homage of this one on the way, but I hope to ultimately get one of these in the future. 👍🏼
Who does the homage
@@LastWatch Corgeut, on AliExpress. It's pretty much a straight 1 to 1 copy, so it's of zero horological value in itself, but if I like it I'll start saving for the Omega. 👍🏼
Hello Kit. I received my Railmaster homage from the Official Corgeut Store the other day. It took 70 days! It got stuck in Singapore. Worth the wait though. I detect a slight mismatch between the tint of the hands and the indices. Otherwise, it is a great way to "test drive" a very expensive piece. Hope your delivery time is less, but I counsel patience my friend!
@@letlogiclead1187 I'm up to 45 days and counting! 😂
Stunning but no micro adjustment
Staggering eh
Big N52 neodymium magnets can be problematic.
I’ll take your word for it while I google neodymium
@@LastWatch 14800 gauss :-)
