I have two Omega watches and I love them. A Seamaster Planet Ocean from 2010 is my day to day watch and it is amazing. Yesterday bought the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 Chronograph with a blue dial and bezel. In love with it already. Why Omega? They are affordable, high quality and you can walk into a dealer and buy one unlike Rolex. The Omega is also a bigger watch which suits me. Finally, I’m not buying for investment, I’m buying for the watch I want to wear and keep and will leave to my son. ❤
Because of the hype that makes the Rolex famous. It is just a overhyped. Massproduced like any other watch. Like quartz in the 70-80’s. 50% of the price is the hype.
Omega all day. I currently wear the Seamaster 300 professional in blue and love it. For me Rolex is overpriced and too mainstream, everyone has one and most are fake.
They both occupy specific niches in the watch world. Omega is a watch enthusiast's brand sporting all sorts of amazing technical features but obtainable enough for the everyman. Also has ties to James Bond. Rolex is a household name and has a lot of more appeal to non-enthusiasts due to its status symbol or something you buy to mark an important milestone. Appreciated by enthusiasts as well but too often swept up by investors and influencers.
Why ppl has this misperception, omega watch prices are almost the same as rolex and even more expensive, omega has tourbillon watches that can run you 750,000 dollars rolex doesn’t even build a tourbillon .
A lot of of people can save up for an Omega. The price range is from 500 to thousands of euros. Rolex not reachable because their price is too high. Good for Omega. More people get to enjoy a luxury watch.
Rolex owner here. I chose Rolex due to the comfort of their bracelets and their designs. I have a TT yellow gold and steel Datejust. I would say i give Omega an edge when it comes to their pricing for their steel sport watches, but their bracelets I dont like... Rolex's brand is pretty reputable and for good reason. It really depends on what you want.
The video didn't mention Rolex was founded in the UK. The video did correctly mention it was founded in the 20th century. The video incorrectly states Rolex developed 904Lstainless steel. It merely began to utilize 904L steel in its watches in 1985. It's softer than 316L so it scratches more easily and has a higher allergy risk than 316L, but a bit more corrosion resistant. The video leaves out how it was Omega that began having solid endlinks for their bracelets first. Rolex was using hollow endlink bracelets that sounded rattly and stretched out until 2005.
Omega takes it for me. I have a Speedmaster Racing, and it’s an absolutely fantastic piece. I don’t know why, but I also like the look of Omega watches over Rolex watches.
I own both a Rolex GMT Master II "Pepsi" and an Omega 3861 Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch" Sapphire Sandwich. By EVERY possible metric the Omega is the better watch. It's not only a beautiful timepiece but Its precision is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It's more comfortable on the wrist, it's way cheaper and it was available the day I decided to buy it. Nonetheless is the Rolex a Rolex. It just gives me a "special" feeling every time I put it on my wrist ... and it did so every day in the last 20 years.
Your research is garbage. Rolex has many quartz watches. It made the Oysterquartz for several decades, and it’s best selling watches are quartz watches for women.
When it comes to dive watches, Rolex certainly has more options, but I will give the edge to omega. Comparing just the two mainstream dive watches they own, the submariner and the sea master 300 professional, you get more features on the Seamaster for half the price with the same water resistance
New to watches and IMO I don’t see Omega surpassing Rolex anytime soon. Rolex name is common place like I said I knew hardly anything about watches until this year but knew Rolex is a premium and sought watch, after for reputation, only heard of Omega was when I saw it on Bond. For them to surpass Rolex they will need to do some serious marketing, watch performance is the first step but they need to get materialistic people who know little about watches but have a need to impress or insecurity for bragging on the brand. Reading the comments on watch videos I don’t see this happening.
In terms of overall accuracy Omega wins. Since they not only make mechanical watches, but also quite a few Quartz watches. Quartz watches as we all know are they are more accurate then their mechanical counterparts. Rolex on the other hand dont manufacture Quartz watches anymore.
Omega is the watch for everyone who can be access. Especially the watch fans. Watch is Watch, always wear on wrist not about resale value. That’s why people said; Omega is Watchmaker. Rolex is Watch Seller.
Rolex busynesswise is much stronger than Omega, but for most of the cunsumers Omega is a much better choice. It is much easyer to get. I don´t belive there is much different in quality anymore. Both brand makes super water resistant watches. Omega now makes a watch that can dive 6.000 meters, but it is just for show. Still every Omega is fairly waterresistant for everyday use and accendely showering of a fall into a pool. Both brand makes super accurate watches. Warenty is the same, and serviceinterval 10 years for Rolex in avage and perhaps 7 - 8 years on Omegas. Service in general is also fine with both brands, however Rolex often service a watch in Europe, as far I know 3 - 5 weeks and an Rolex center does it. Omega often send there watches into a big Swatchgroup Omega service center and if just there is some wear and tear on th lock, and you won´t replace it with a new lock, they will deny giving your watch a service at all. It takes 10 - 13 weeks to get a service. Anyway that was what happend to my Omega Seamaster chrono gold/steel version from 1998 at Swatchgroup in Germany. But all together I think Omega does beat Rolex right now. But if Rolex had a waitlist of max 2 mounths on every model, then prices would not go above retail and then Rolex would be the overall winner I think.
Quick answer is no. Ask anyone on the street to name a premium watch, and Rolex is the answer. With trust ownership removing need for quick profits, and such high market share, it now commands a position that will take decades to unwind. This has nothing to do with the quality of its product, history or high heurology. Brand awareness, market share and ownership. I own both brands, love them both. Both are lovely to own. ( 14060m Sub, and Speedmaster Pro.)
If we’re being honest, they already have. Rolex biggest flex is not making them available to the general public at msrp without being on a waiting list and their use of marketing.
Grand Seiko by far,if Rolex and Omega would ever had spring drive and that iconic GS hand engineering dials and superior polishing they would sold their watches triple the price!!
I have a Rolex Quartz, given to me by my Dad who is a big Rolex fan. I guess, because of him, that was the brand I grew up with and bought later on, when I could afford to buy a decent watch. I loved that it was tough. I later went on to buy a Rolex GMT-Master 2 as well as a Rolex Deepsea. Recently, however, after a lot of research I purchased an Omega Seamaster 300 Chrono 44m (with Omega’s famous Co-Axial Escapement) which in my opinion trumps the equivalent Rolex offering (i.e the Submariner). Plus I loved the look of black and gold! If you’re really interested in the engineering in the watch, and you want the most robust, the most tested, something of superior technology, something extremely accurate, between the two - you’d get an Omega. If you don’t know any better, and you just want to rely on what the crowds worship (which actually, was how my Dad (and for a time me even) roll) you’d get a Rolex.
Omega probably will never have the same status of luxury as Rolex, but for me Omega makes more interesting and better spec watches than Rolex. But that's just me and someone could say that he prefers to spend he's hard earned money on Rolex for its status. Neither brand makes objectively better watches than the other.
