I mean.. besides everything else terrible with it... The big thing that gets me is that they are totally changing the lore of the Fallout Universe.. like the Brotherhood of Steel, or even the game's setting, "West Virginia." has trees and plants, But they have nuke silo's in the area? why wouldn't the USA's enemies just nuke the entire map anyways?.. heck even the Scorchbeasts are unfriendly lore.. I hope they just mean for 76 to be non-canon... But they haven't said a word about that.. makes me worry about the future of Fallout..
@@AragonBattleBorn Hiroshima, Nagasaki, even the Marshall Islands still have trees and plants. You can see trees today growing around the blast craters on the Marshall Island nuclear bomb test sites.
@@AragonBattleBorn I'm speaking as someone whose replaying Fallout 4 (having never touched 76) and become addicted to it, which is a stark contrast to how I felt about the game when it came out. The games just don't make sense and I'm not sure your suppose to take the setting all that seriously. The Monty Python bridge keeper in Fallout 2, the Nuke Quantum collector girl in Fallout 3, the aliens, the ghosts, eldritch god of Fallout 4, none of this is meant to be taken seriously. The games come pre-baked with ludonarrative dissonance. In the Fallout lore, China was fighting off an invasion of it's own homeland in Nanjing and the Gobi Desert, so you can handwave it away as China focusing a significant portion of it's nuclear arsenal on the conventional American forces on Chinese soil. America is a very big country with deliberately dispersed nuclear silos (especially with annexed Canada and Mexico), if China chooses to focus on them, they'll do so at the expense of targeting US cities, army divisions, naval targets. There's also the fact that not all of the Chinese missiles would have the range to reach the US east coast, on top of that, not all of China's nuclear arsenal would be first strike capable, you'd have the second strike and third strike nuclear weapons that could have been destroyed by America's retaliation and WV got saved in the nuclear exchange. You also have to account for the fact that ICBMs aren't all that reliable and aren't tested all that often, they can explode in flight, go off course, they can get intercepted as happened with Las Vegas, or a maintenance issue could have prevented their launch in a timely manner. The Commonwealth itself was destroyed by Chinese submarine by Captain Zao via short ranged launch.
Anyone else ever find it weird that there's about 200 years of time separating Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 in canon and yet they look exactly the same? Did no one even give a shit to try and rebuild for hundreds of years?
And the super mutants look the same even tho those are unique types created by the institute with a variant strain of the FEV. Imagine it being a base-creation, settlement caretaking ,etc. type of game where you were the overseer? And perhaps the vault was about 'leadership in front' or some such. About leadership doing the lionshare of work since the hold more power. Hence more responsibility as well. And from there you go out and explore the wasteland slowly, return often to heal radiation sickness and such, fall over very appealing quests like maybe a serial killer surviving the bombs and had begun to kill again amongst scattered survivors in some non-vault bunker, etc. Just... SOMETHING. you can easily make it with less NPCs in the world, but explaining WHY. Especially if you're basically making a variant of vault-city from Fallout 1, but yours is more based around setting up a settlement around the vault itself through having been a vault based in the wilderness and thus a lot less touched by atomic troubles, at least directly speaking. the radiation can be prevalent or come in raincloud rushes and radstorms where getting radiation sickness is a threat. Maybe with more mutated wildlife, rad-sick crazed of course, which is just extremely hostile and dangerous. Pre-cursors to the Yao-guai, insect swarms that causes rad damage and requires something like a flame thrower, grenades, etc. to deal with them. or find some gear useful to deal with them. You should regress the enemies in format to fit the fact they've yet to have generations upon generations of mutation-breeding to become the final result seen in other fallout games.
@@kinagrill That'd actually be interesting. It sounds more akin to Kingdom Come: Deliverences'/ Medieval Dynasty optional mode where you can manage a town. Build things people need, pay taxes, etc.

@Ork Trukk Drivah Not really. Believe it or not, most nukes leave (Relatively) little radiation behind. People are currently living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, you know? Reactor meltdowns are actually worse. Basically, most of the nuclear material in a bomb is consumed during a detonation, where as in a reactor the stuff continues to break down decades later, irradiating the environment the whole time.
yea thats why the title says "of 2018" and was made for 2018. while still being relevant today, as the game still sucks and still has most of the same issues listed in the video.
@@Halopen94 Absolutely. I'm just passed the stages of grief, adn i have no expectations. ES6 and any future Fallout release is out of my mind now. R.I.P, my long time friends.
Me: Man, it'd be nice to go through a Fallout game with a friend or two. Bethesda: Oh, so you want multiplayer? Me: Yeah, I mean, I want to be able to experience the story with my friend or my brother. Join factions or even become enemies. Bethesda: Oh, so you want multiplayer with no human NPCs? Me: Wait, what? No, I didn't say th- Bethesda: So you want a multiplayer with no human NPCs and a bunch more robots? Me: Huh? Bethesda: Alrighty then! We made a multiplayer Fallout with no other humans except for other players you don't give a crap about, the story is told through 5 min long holotapes that you can't pause or continue where you left off, and the quests are mostly the same where you fight the same enemies. Oh, and there won't be modding and it'll be just as buggy as our old games. But don't worry, just think of them as *features*. Have fun! Todd Howard: SIXTEEN TIMES THE DETAIL
Fallout New Vegas had main story where you actualy were not urged to complete it asap while at the same time if you followed it, it let you explore about quarter of the map just by following it. It just felt natural tracking my killer while getting repeatedly sidetracked by sidequests only to get back on track later and at almost no part of the main quest was there ever part where if you would do nothing for year or two that the story would not make sense anymore. You are going for revenge. The longer you take, the less you were obsessed with it so its fine. Later you are in middle of several factions fighting each other while staying in deadlock and the game clearly shows (not tells but shows!) to you that there is deadlock going on which makes it that much more meaningful when your actions are the tipping point in favor of one or other faction and yet it still never makes you feel as if you are doing everything for them alone. That is imho why I love FNV more then F4 even though F4 has updated and improved game mechanics. It was that much easier to get immersed in.
Oh trust me pal, it's completely natural to like New Vegas more than 4, but there are many reason for that. As for the rest of the comment, I loved how they handled the story aspect, as it made much more sense. Yeah, you want revenge, but there didn't necessarily have to be a rush, you didn't need to worry about his safety, you wanted him to die. As for the map, I did prefer how 4 and 3 handled, I personally prefer having large portions of the map only discover-able by good old fashion wandering.
I know what you mean, F4 is a great sequel to F3 but a poor sequel to FNV. I mean Obsidian really raised the fucking bar and Bethesda just ignored it, or just didn't care. Now unlike some people I didn't hate F4, I enjoyed the game and there were some improvements that I did like. Like how Power Armor worked, Weapon/Armor crafting, and building your very own base to live in was very cool. I had a lot of fun doing these things, but the main story was absolutely terrible and most of the quests were forgettable. So yeah, FNV is my favorite Fallout game.
@@NansheOwl42 I'm with you there. I just recently tried my hand at F4 again, after dropping it a few hours into my first play-through, with a lot of quality-of-life enhancing mods, and I actually had a lot of fun... while completely ignoring the main quest. Hell, I even ignored most of the side quests as well. I just ran around, explored, scavenged, built stuff and shot things. In NV, I would stumble upon a quest and go "Okay, I'm curious what this is about, let's find out.". In F4, i would stumble upon a quest and go, "Eh, who cares, let's go and find the next landmark on my compass instead, maybe I can get some rare drops." I still had fun, but while I my memories of NV are mostly centered around characters, quests and choices, my time with F4 is a blur of running, shooting bullet-sponges and spending an uncomfortably long time scavenging for that one last bit of plastic or circuitry to upgrade something, and getting repeatedly disappointing by how little change it made.
"vault 76 had no experiment" oh how wrong you are. Vault 76 had the most insidious experiment of them all... a false door opened up to the worst fallout game ever made, and the vault subjects cant ever escape

Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76 all run on the same game engine, just upgraded over he years. Technically, each gane is a "mod" of the previous game, just as Counter-Strike is a Half-Life mod. We've been buying and playing paid mods all this time. Truth is, the game was rigged from the start
It's not necessarily the engine at fault. Good games have been built on gamebryo and creation. It's the fact that they've been piling game on top of game on top of game without removing much code. Not to mention the basically just haphazardly staple on other components like physics and such. It's really pathetic because it's been there since fo3 and Oblivion. Morrowind is referenced in skyrims assets and coding. It's pathetic even fo3 is in skyrims code at places
A bunch of friends and I were incredibly hyped for Fallout 76 pre-launch, so much so that I broke the cardinal rule of gaming and actually pre-ordered to play the beta with them. It was okay, I didn’t run into a ton of issues, and I didn’t pay the game much mind after the beta, and just waited for the full release. A week or so before the release, I got an email saying that my PayPal and Xbox account weren’t playing nice with each other and my pre-order was refunded. I wasn’t able to immediately re-buy... and only now am I realizing that a PayPal glitch saved me 60 dollars and a headache of a gaming experience. One bug saved me from a game full of bugs.

Although I agree that it’s also a bad game, it’s also a bad Fallout game in terms of “look”. Fallout was never supposed to be a nuclear future with a 1950s aesthetic, it was supposed to be a nuclear future with a retro futuristic aesthetic.

And I thought my lengthy expose was plenty for this game, but no, even after more news stories came out about this. Amazingly enough, even you are showing how terrible this is...wow!
Vault 76 opens. They would use their GECK (or GECKS) and create a Vault City. Vault 76 would have had a GECK or two since it was one of the 17 control vaults to work as intended. It would be like Vault 8.
Leave it to the guy who makes a bunch of Fallout 1 and 2 videos to remember the GECK is a canon thing that most vaults, especially control vaults, were supposed to have.

The moment I heard "always online" for this game: "Oh, so... how are mods gonna work? How about fan patches? If I run into game breaking bugs, as I have done dozens of times in EVERY Bethesda game, I won't have saves or console commands to fix it, right? Also, I hate playing a multiplayer game and then having to read lore, or be in a dialogue. Everyone just wants to skip. Does that mean only one player gets to pick dialogue options? Does the rest have to wait while you think about which option to take? " Well, I guess they couldn't figure out those last questions either, so they took the nuclear option, no pun intended.

@@kingsweden4636 I honestly don't give a shit what oxhorn thinks of this video game if he likes it cool good for him. I'm not him and to me fallout 76 is an insult.
I remember my high school creative writing class. the teacher made a bet with the students saying he would give an automatic "A" for the class if one person can create a story without proper characters, plot, or setting (the intent was to stress it is impossible to have a story at all without these things). Fallout 76 is pretty much an attempt to make a game with out proper plot or characters.
That's a cool way to get kids to dissect what a story is, piece by piece. It even got me doing it and I'm a full grown adult. Anyway, I guess I don't get the automatic A, because I can't beat his challenge, either. As soon as you start trying to make the story, you wind up with a protagonist and actions it's going to take (a.k.a. a plot).
@@manictiger Just do what Bethesda is doing. make a world and say "here you go". there is no protagonist, antagonist, supporting characters, conflict, motivation, tension, suspense, ect. it is just saying "you are here in this world. now what?". you pay 60$ (the price at release) for walking around in a virtual world.

Bethesda, Bethesda never changes. In the year 2006, my great-great grandfather, a seasoned gamer, wondered when he'd get to go back to the world of the Elder scrolls. He got his wish when Bethesda ended the drought, by releasing Fallout 3 in 2008, and Skyrim in 2011. The World awaited Armageddon; instead, something miraculous happened. We began to use Them not as first person rpgs, but as a nearly limitless source of entertainment with mods and fan games. People enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of science fiction. Domestic dragons, customized power armor, that one cool mod where liberty prime is replaced with the Iron Giant, Yeah, you know the one. But then, in the 21st century, people awoke from the American dream. Years of consumption for collectors editions lead to shortages of canvas. The entire world unraveled. Peace became a distant memory. It is now the year 2019 We stand on the brink of total war, and I am afraid. For myself, for my games, for my sense of pride and achievement - because if my time gaming taught me one thing: it's that Bethesda, Bethesda never changes.

"there are no NPCs in the game" Haven't you seen the defenders of this abortion Edit: shit, 156 likes? Living the short-term dream here. That joke was only moderately funny as well
sadly the NPC''s of this game provide no good quests or dialog, as it mostly consists of hearing their female creator yell at them or their own creations screaming in the back round as their dialog, if i were to rate the npc's in this game, i would give them a 2/10, as despite how sometimes they might be funny to listen to, they get quite boring and obnoxious after a while, and just makes the game feel more dead than if it were to have no npc's at all, even just robots would make the game feel more alive, and that's saying something.
@James Reilly a few npcs here and there wouldn't of helped the game, it needed thousands of npcs, towns, settlements, factions to join and fight, raiders not more ghouls, mercs, etc, going into a dungeon and only finding super mutants and ghouls gets old, no towns and settlements with human npcs is a fatal flaw, the entire premise of this game was flawed, the game has no single player mode, the bugs are not the reason the game is a nightmare.
"Haven't you seen the defenders of this abortion" His name is Oxhorn. He counts as multiple people because he is obese. For the Balto reference, I couldn't give a care in the world "I was stating a fact" If you're referring to your Trump avatar "argument", here's another fact. "Oxhorn is not a shill, he's argued against the game" Could've fooled me. I guess after compiling all of the scripts of his videos, this fact escaped me, I guessed it escaped just about everyone who watched those videos. I suppose even though there are thousands of people who believe him to be a shill, the only two I should believe are you and him, two people who deny claims made with evidence without evidence. I mean, you two are the people who know what shills really are, aren't you?
Fallout's strengths were always it's RPG and story elements. When they got away from that aspect they started to go downhill. Because their weakness traditionally has been the fighting and shooter elements. People love 3 and 4, but I've found both of those games very uninteresting. Not that they're bad necessarily, just not as interesting as Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas
On a side note. I like how 200ish years after the events of fallout 76 the world doesn't look any more decrepit or broken. Just, the same. That attention to detail and consistency :p
Fallout 2022 is released: It is set partially in 'preWar America' and everything looks the same just with increased brightness and a yellow tint on everything.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, & Fallout 4. I put hundreds of hours into each of these games. Asset reuse isnt always a bad thing, games like Metroid Prime 2 feel refreshing, having the same control and graphics of Metroid Prime. But Fallout 76 looks practically identical with no rhyme or reason, several years after Fallout 4.
Games that reuse assets from previous games can still be good, like Majora's Mask and Fallout New Vegas. Unfortunately, Fallout 76 isn't that, because there was effort and lots of care put into those two games despite being asset flips but none put into Fallout 76.
The only bad thing about this review is that Fallout had to die to make it happen.
I mean.. besides everything else terrible with it...

@@AragonBattleBorn he's referring to Rags' review, not the game.

With Fallout 76, the player becomes the game.
Anyone else ever find it weird that there's about 200 years of time separating Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 in canon and yet they look exactly the same? Did no one even give a shit to try and rebuild for hundreds of years?
The quality of weapons and shit actually gets worse over time it seems like... Wtf.

TL;DR: new Vegas is an actual fallout rpg, fallout 4 is a post apocalyptic shooter with fallout branding on it.
iglidor its because obsidian knows how to make how to make a good rpg, even with the short development time they had with FoNV...

Well, I guess they couldn't figure out those last questions either, so they took the nuclear option, no pun intended.

Edit: shit, 156 likes?
"Haven't you seen the defenders of this abortion"
His name is Oxhorn. He counts as multiple people because he is obese.
And despite being obese, he films teenage girls in public who are half his weight and makes fun of them. And now he abuses youtube's flagging tool to try to shut down any channels which criticize him.
First of all, thank you @TrumpIsLove;TrumpIsLife for bringing up Oxhorn, I didn't know this person existed until you mentioned him. Looking at videos, I'm inclined to agree with you. Second of all,@jbiehlable that argument about his avatar, it's a shit argument to make, a throwaway argument at that. At that rate, I guess you would agree with the argument that you should ignore me because my avatar is a joke about United airlines and 9/11, that I should ignore you because you're just some fox that appears to have a line drawn through it, and *gasps* well shit, we should never listen to rag's (memes) because he's just some dog wearing a pair of sunglasses.
@jbiehlable "911 jokes are never funny" Well now, I guess you're right. Even though humor is subjective, and one us has 157+ likes on one of their jokes, I should listen to someone who knows humor, and probably hates a lot of PewDiePie's jokes about Nazis.
For the Balto reference, I couldn't give a care in the world
"I was stating a fact" If you're referring to your Trump avatar "argument", here's another fact. He has been trying to negotiate on the shutdown for weeks now, his current offer being to get money for the wall AND extend DACA to after his first term, while the person he's trying to make a deal with is trying to avoid his offers (it's okay if SHE goes to a different country), so who's keeping the shutdown in effect?
Couldn't have said it better myself.

NICE, was waiting for this every day since you were on SOTY.
Asset reuse isnt always a bad thing, games like Metroid Prime 2 feel refreshing, having the same control and graphics of Metroid Prime. But Fallout 76 looks practically identical with no rhyme or reason, several years after Fallout 4.
But for a company with an insane budget, it is seen as lazy
Games that reuse assets from previous games can still be good, like Majora's Mask and Fallout New Vegas. Unfortunately, Fallout 76 isn't that, because there was effort and lots of care put into those two games despite being asset flips but none put into Fallout 76.
