    I don't know if you'll see this but there is an alternate ending for Oswald in Nuka World. If you travel north to a town called Bradberton in Nuka World, you'll find the body of Oswald's girlfriend. On her body is a goodbye tape. If you present the tape to Oswald, he'll give up Kiddie Kingdom willingly after realizing he has no reason to stay.

      @Johnt Schmichal One of my favorite things to do in base Fallout 4 was to constantly cosplay as the Silver Shroud as a roleplaying opportunity, because it was one of the few things that first had the beginnings of actual roleplay.
      Plus I already knew that the Mechanist was a comic book character from older Fallout games. It would make sense to add dialogue for that.
      The only reason I DIDN'T get the result organically is that I looked up stuff about the DLC before playing it.

    I think the biggest "you have to be a raider" problem in Nuka World is that the only stuff to raid is *your own stuff*. If there had been fewer player settlements and some of the sites had been occupied by other factions like the Gunners then putting raider settlements near them to funnel their resources into your settlements would have been a fun option.

    • @wastelanderjb1
      @wastelanderjb1 Год назад +122

      You CAN actually raid into unclaimed settlements but if you do the minutemen quest to it's completion or near completion, then you have few or zero options to do that. It's obviously a ham-fisted "you get your evil / raider play option".
      I did another separate playthrough for Nuke World so I owned few settlements going into it and it was better. Still a crap DLC.

    • @SotiCoto
      @SotiCoto Год назад

      That is one half of the inherent contradiction of Nuka World. The other half is that it plays to an idea that doesn't work at all. There is zero incentive whatsoever to play nice with the Nuka World Raiders. Whether you're some hero of justice or a wandering murder-hobo looking to kill people and take their stuff, the logical result is the same: You go to Nuka World and kill everyone there. Teaming up with gangs of backstabbing psychopaths is not a sensible course of action for ANYONE... well, unless you're too weak to handle things yourself, in which case you're too weak for the DLC in the first place.

  • @definitelyhooman7939
    @definitelyhooman7939 2 года назад +2584

    Something interesting about the Automatron DLC! If you enter the Mechanist's Lair dressed as the Silver Shround, she will begin addressing you as such. You'll have the option to speak as the Silver Shroud (similary to the original quest) and even get unique dialogue because "The Mechanist" was a villian from the original show (evidently the girl based her alter ego on the character). It's an interesting touch to an otherwise simple interaction, I just wish more of the game had moments like that.

    • @Aceriex
      @Aceriex 2 года назад +197

      Nuka World also has the option to speak as the Shroud if you interact with the sheriffs in Dry Rock Gulch dressed as the Silver Shroud.
      one more interesting thing is that Overboss Colter will have different comments depending on your outfit (i.e. Vault suit, Silver Shroud outfit & power armor)

      Both _New Vegas_ and _Fallout 4_ give you the option to make big decisions that will change their respective regions. Ulysses and DiMA are there to ask you, the player, if that's something you're ready for. If Ulysses is a look into the dirty truths left hidden in the present, DiMA is a look into the past, and both are supposed to inform you of the decisions you have or will take.
      Ulysses tells the Courier that society, for what it's worth, is still deeply flawed, despite all the attempts to keep the ugliness hidden.
      - Caesar's Legion will die with him
      -The NCR is run by bureaucrats loyal more to personal desires than their nation
      - House will inevitably turn the world into a row of smiling computer screens
      - An independent Vegas will be run by tribals one step away from reverting to their fomer savagery
      No matter the choice the Courier makes, the flaws will remain. Ulysses simply hopes that the Courier will either be wise enough to confront them or be strong enough to blow it all up and stert over.
      DiMA is an explanation for why the Institute exists as it does. Early on, people in the Institute really did want to keep the peace, but everyone in the Commonwealth hated them, especially after the provincial government collapsed. At some point, to minimize the damage, some9ne like DiMA probably tried replacing a settlement leader with a Synth. When it worked, the institute tried it again. And again. And again. By the time the Sole Survivor meets Father, they've been doing this for so long that it's become normal, and they can't understand why they shouldn't.
      It doesn't matter if the Sole Survivor agrees with the Institute. All that matters is understanding why they do what they do. One day, when the Commonwealth is rebuilt, when society is at it's most fragile, that decision will come up again, and it won't be pretty.

    What I love most about Far Harbor, and DiMA specifically, is that in the paranoia of who may or may not be a synth, Acadia finds itself (inadvertently or otherwise) gaslighting people into believing they are a synth. I think the purpose of the "player might be a synth" thing wasn't to plant actual suspicion in our minds, but to make us see that this IS gaslighting. Obviously we know our character remembers more beyond the bombs falling, it's not meant to FOOL us, but to make us realize that THIS is the kind of questioning DiMA puts people through, people who are much more affected by the synth paranoia in the Commonwealth than our unfrozen Salisbury Steak character. This is why, no matter who I side with, whether roleplaying or doing what I genuinely feel is right, I always end FH with DiMA facing judgement because he perpetuated the fear and loss the Institute has been responsible for. Not only has he actually been killing and replacing people (and the excuse that he was so traumatized by the actions that he wiped his memory don't hold up, since he's PERFECTLY WILLING to do the same to High Confessor Whoeverthefuck), but he is gaslighting others into believing they are synths, and getting them to abandon their lives to be part of Acadia. Pure intentions or no, DiMA is a monster through and through.

      Not only is he willing to do it again with the High Confessor; but he literally makes the suggestion one breath after apologizing for what he did to Avery. "Sorry about killing and replacing a human being in Far Habor. Now help me do the same with the Children of Atom." Nice, DiMA. Real nice.
      It was funny how Salt mentioned he felt DiMA was a sympathetic and nice character - when I first met him, my initial impression of him was that he was condescending, pretentious, and insincere. Of course, I realize that's just what I read into his tone of voice and choice of words, but it's interesting how different my impression of DiMA was from Salt's.

    This game totally missed the “evil clone” opportunity, it would’ve made for some fun post-story content to go hunting after your evil doppelgänger.
    I remember installing a Terminator mod that sends your spouse, Preston Garvey, and your character model from the beginning after you as a Stalker type!
    It was so trippy fighting “myself” as well as actually exciting to run into them at random places. I remember they followed me to Nuka World, so before I could even fight the Overboss, I was flanked out of nowhere by murderbots. It was genuinely more memorable than most of the scripted scenarios that are few and far between.

    The thing with DiMA is that his story is about him becoming the Institute (in practice); becoming what he hates most.
    What he did with Avery (and Tektus if you choose that route) is *exactly* what the Institute did with Diamond City’s Mayor.
    They replaced a public leader with a synth to pacify the rest of their people.

    • @FelisImpurrator
      @FelisImpurrator 3 года назад +25

      Technically, it isn't, because the contexts and motivations are different.
      DiMA may have committed a similar action on the surface, but the motivation was far more selfless and served an arguably necessary purpose: Preventing war between two factions full of irrational, dogmatic people who would have let their mutual fear and hatred lead to potentially the death of nearly everyone on the island, and definitely the death of a lot of people regardless. All his motivations are to help people as much as possible with the lowest calculable amount of sacrifice, and he still fully experiences remorse for having to make any sacrifices at all. In other words, he's a utilitarian, acting as ethically as the situation allows under utilitarian ethics, and as such is basically about as good as robots get in sci-fi writing.
      The Institute is far less ethically justifiable - they keep slaves, maintain control over their people with secrecy and violence, and use people as mere tools to be disposed of with no remorse and no attempts to find solutions with fewer sacrifices. They do everything to preserve their own perceived (status) and actual (technology) superiority, unlike the more altruistic original Institute alluded to in the backstory. What they practice isn't utilitarianism - it's merely callous authoritarianism.
      They're completely different.

Others they'll just be chilling along and then suddenly when you fast travel they'll want to pour their heart out about such a good example you've been to them and such. Or like most the times I've played FO4, just be working on scrapping and crafting and suddenly Codsworth will get all teary-eyed, metaphorically. But maybe more interesting is that the tunnels rech into the basement of an old drug store, which is occupied by a few gouls and count as part of the vault. Meaning you can build a pretty neat house there where no-one but you can come, which shares the inventory with the vault. It can also house 40 citizens. Asssign them to farms and put a bunch of water purifiers in the space next to the entrance and you have yourself a great supply of water and food for all your other settlements. It’s always been an interesting theory. But it’s not possible. The whole concept collapses through all the dialogue where the SS discusses the old world. And then there’s the Vault-Tec Rep that knows you.
      There was an abandoned plot line wherein the Institute gave you a Synth replica of your dead spouse.

    You always blame todd for everything, but it's emil pagliarulo who was trully in charge of the games at bethesda, and he's the one with the shitty writing? you want to know why you liked far harbor? He wasn't involved. William Shen wrote it.

      Todd Howard is the LEAD Developer and ALL content needs to be approved by him. He can also make writers edit their stories to fit his dream! The reason the DLCs have better writing is Todd Howard and his team started development MONTHS after the game was released and thousands of reviews were made ...
      Here's an analogy for you to better understand: Todd Howard is the Disney of Bethesda games!

      @@Astroman10 I'll say this for Todd, he's a good game lead but not a good rpg game lead. He knows how to make a competent fun game but not anything more. If you see Chris Avalon and Josh Sawyer in Fallout New Vegas they're completely committed to having all those details and depth rpg fans want so desperately but they couldn't have made Fallout 4 from scratch, it's a different skill set. They need to combine their powers to have the fun elements and the rpg elements

    Another great thing about the far harbor dlc that I dont think was mentioned is that you can also get 2 more endings in which u report to the brotherhood and institute about the synth base of acadia and they blow it up or reprogram everyone respectively. Also I think that if u did the railroad ending u may get another ending or at least some more dialogue with acadia. It really shows that Bethesda can make quality stuff if they actually want to.

  • @vinndolyn5976
    @vinndolyn5976 3 года назад +20

    I think that the “using the designation as a sign that you’re with Acadia” works because with most synths/institute agents they would just immediately use the relay shutdown thing to turn the synth off but having that info and not doing that means that someone he trusted must have given you the info
