Might you be planning a look at KotOR 2: The sith lords? If so, are you going to play vanilla or use the restoration mod? Keep up the cool vids, man. These give me crazy nostalgia and I dig your sense of humor.
I played it and KOTOR II in the last couple of years for the first time. I think KOTOR I has a fun story, but it is definitely clunky. Combat/Inventory/Equipment was not only a chore, but it was all far too easy. KOTOR II I really disliked - I thought the story was boring and Kreia was just Ayn Rand nonsense.
The twist of the player being Revan was our generation's "I am your father". I actually managed to not pick up on it back when I was a teenager, so it was absolutely mind-blowing at the time.
toadofsteel it honestly blew my 10 year old mind waaay harder than twists in movies like fight club and momento would come to in my teen years. The twist hit me so hard that it rendered my body numb for days. I know I’m biased the nostalgia I feel for the power of that memory, but I don’t think any variety visual media will ever be able to surpass babby’s first existential mindfuck.
Maybe if they gave that one guy the high rank of master things would have been different. Anyone remember that Jedi's name.....I forgot. No big deal. Heard he may have had some kids.
I always thought Bastilla lectures you so often on the Darkside because she feels its pull so keenly, and is terrified of it. Her sanctimonious attitude is a self defense mechanism.
I haven't played in a long time, but I remember thinking that, and there being a discription of how she uses a darth maul double saber which "is typically preferred by dark jedi" leading me to believe she was likely to have shaky morals
"The undercity looks like an unfinished beta map" You gotta keep in mind that this was top-tier graphics at the time it came out. I remember my desktop STRUGGLING to run this game. They had to keep the polygon count low, so parts will look "unfinished", it's unavoidable for the technology of the time. Also, when you complain that the planets aren't big enough - keep in mind that when this game came out, CDs were total garbage. This game took up 4 disks!!! The game world was one of the biggest EVER made.
@PKD Orion Xbox used DVD's so they could store more data. PC's at the time used regular CD's so it wasn't uncommon for games to start requiring more and more discs. As DVD drives became more common games starting going back to 1 disc for awhile.
PKD Orion I believe most console games are blu rays but also require other files to be stored on the hard drive since blu rays usually only hold about 50 gb of data if I remember correctly
I would seriously recommend playing KOTOR 2 with the Restored Content Mod after this, not least of all because the KOTOR 2 actively agrees with your criticism of the Jedi Council.
KOTOR 2 is still one of my favourite games of all time, that mod really helps in realizing the full potential of the game and for me, solidifies it as one of the bestRPGs of all time
@@thespiritofjonathanjoestar6805 you can get KOTOR2 mods both from Steam and from Nexus Mods. The Restored Content Mod really is a must. Overall, KOTOR 2 is a MUCH better game to play on PC in 2020 than KOTOR 1, because modders actually made KOTOR 2 enjoyable to play on modern hardware. I like KOTOR 1, but I remember it running much better on my old ThinkPad T61 with Windows Vista than it runs on a modern PC gaming rig.

As an ex-army guy, I can tell you the Jedi council has the same problems as any commanding force. You can't send them in directly because the knowledge, experience and leadership is too valuable to risk losing in some battle (that could be fought by a larger group of slightly less capable fighters who are told what to do). But at the same time, that disconnect from conditions on the ground make real time decisions less impactful and accurate.
To be fair that’s why Revan was so amazing, he was able to both fight on the ground and organise the army simultaneously, he was broken levels of OP that you normally only see in Warhammer 40k lol
@@thomas5585but look what happened when he died. It was his genius and force of personality holding everything together and, when he died, it all fell apart to internecine squabbling amongst his generals. As for the Jedi Council, they handle the problem the same way the modern-day army does: put people in charge who have on-the-ground experience, and then watch as that experience goes more and more stale the longer they’re out of action.
Him recollecting the companions from the previous game in KOTOR2 is gold: *Mockery* : "Oh Master, I do not trust you! I cannot trust you or anyone ever again!" *Mockery* : "Oh Master! KOTOR is as much "Star Wars" to me as the movies. In every way it delivers a Star Wars story. When you go back to the other media you have a more fleshed out understanding of the world from having experienced KOTOR.
I prefer it to other star wars media simply cuz even the mmo and the unfinished sequel is more thought through and easier to understand than the movies. The comics are a close second but they keep retreading the movie timeline. The books are hit and miss depending on who wrote them. Everyone always looks at me like im weird when i say the old republic is my favorite star wars anything. I only say clone wars for favorite movie due to nostalgia.
@@Mr._Anderpson I call it "the great milking". When it's run the Skywalker saga into the ground, maybe we'll get some good new stories on screen from the Old Republic. Here's hoping.
Some issues I have with some of your points: "The jedi council does very little"- this is addressed as a problem within the story, not a flaw within the worldbuilding. The jedi CLAIM that they do their best to solve disputes and trust the force to guide them to the right path, but that it is very contradictory. The game spends a lot of time to explore the Jedi's hypocrisy and contradictions, instead of making the Jedi and the Sith simply black and white. "Why did they send the main character to the ruins of Dantooine instead of going themselves?"- Again, this is about the jedi being hypocrites and sort of incompetent, but ALSO because they know that the main character is Revan. They want this "new" Revan to go to the ruins because he/she has a higher chance of getting info from the place, rather than a random jedi
"They talk way too much about the dark side"- This theme of light and dark is not only one of the most prevalent themes in this game, but also Star Wars in general. It should be no surprise that they explore the moralities, benefits, and purposes of each side with many details. This is arguably one of the story's best aspects, but okay...
"It would make more sense if Bastila and the council knew that I was Revan"- the first big oof of this analysis.... She knows. And the council knows. But they tried to keep it hidden from the MC and the main cast so that they could manipulate the "new" Revan. That's what made the twist so much more powerful
"I don't buy into this redemtion Jedi stuff"- this point is irrelevant, cause whatever ethic stance you have when it comes the Jedi's moral code, it matter more in context than to you. The characters and factions have their own beliefs and codes to follow, and the Jedi trusted their own (even if it was flawed). What you would do in a situation like that doesn't matter to the story
Bastila's turn- You probably didn't follow her dialogue story, but her whole arc was based around her being conflicted in the Jedi way, and the ways of the force. She was always in doubt about the Jedi, her own abilities and was missing her family, meaning she was close to turning the whole time. Malak capturing her is what gave her that final push to the dark side, and realize she was maybe being to naive
@@sithsaiyan4529 There are so many things that could ruin the remake if not handled correctly, political correctness is not really a front runner among them. There are a thousand reasons the sequels sucked. Political correctness was among those issues, but not one of the most important by any stretch. There are a million ways in which the overall franchise is being mishandled by Disney, why do we need to keep harping on political correctness? I know this is an unnecessarily confrontational comment, sorry to take it out on you. But it feels like Star Wars fans never shut up about political correctness. It's frustrating because Disney shows little consideration to the integrity of the story, the characters, or the world of star wars, and keep pumping out soulless, low quality, cash grab content that continually degrades the canon. Meanwhile all many Star wars fans harp on are their real world political views and the fact the Disney puts up the pretense of caring about liberal ideals instead of conservative ones. While extreme wokeness in media is annoying and makes for bad content, it's also only a minor factor in Star wars right now, not showing up in, or being the main problem with most bad star wars media. We should hold bad creators accountable by correctly identifying the things they are actually doing wrong, which is a LOT beyond annoying wokeness.
@@Red-Faction it’s because they’re ruining almost every single franchise with the shit. It’s not just Star Wars by far, MCU, Dr Who, Picard, Watchmen, Batwoman, I’m just over all of it. After Spidey 3 I’m retiring from the movie theaters for a long time.
@@sithsaiyan4529 that's fair enough, there are franchises that have worse then Star wars with that type of thing, that's for sure. I'll try to keep in mind how berated by woke content people feel in general and try not get so annoyed with the constant complaints.
@@Red-Faction alot of people hold the view that "wokeness" or "political correct" things are a root cause of being disrespectful with the source material. (I do as well). You can tell when a storyline is pushed just for the sake of wokeness and not for the sake of the product. I think you see alot of this in the sequels. Rey being a Mary Sue. Luke being completely thrown aside as a weak disgruntled character and the entire plot line of the last jedi with the Lady commander etc. They used hyperspeed as a weapon to justify the strong female commander sacrificing herself story. I'm by no means a star wars loremaster, but I don't think that was ever a thing or supposed to be a thing. So anyways it's not just political correctness like removing controversial statements or whatever, but its producers disregarding source material in remakes just to shove in their agendas.

elnumbrotres what? I always killed them, when I was light side I used “destroy robot”, I didn’t know I could save them. And I finished the game something like 20 times
But, you can redeem Bastilla at the end... You just didn't choose the correct dialogue options. That's how, well, really any game with dialogue options goes when you choose the wrong options. That's an issue with the player's choices, not Bioware's development choices.

You see her again at the top of the temple on Rakata (called 'Unknown Planet' in the astrogation chart you click on to go places), and she reveals that Malak convinced her to go to the dark side. After a quick (and easy) fight with her, she gives you the choice to join her. If you resist, she leaves and you fight her again on the Star Forge. If you join her, you automatically become dark side too and (after murdering Jolee, Juhanni, Mission, and most likely Zalbaar, and Carth runs away) fly up to the Star Forge to confront Malak.
The whole point of this game was to show how Revan used both sides of the force to get the job done. He knew when he should be passive and when he should be proactive. It points out how the sith are killing themselves for power and how eventually it will be their doom. It also points out how weak and useless the Jedi are until someone forced their hand.
I love listening to his whole spiel complaining about how it seems like the jedi council and republic does nothing, like with the Mandalorian war. Meanwhile I'm like... Almost like the storytellers are crafting you to have thoughts similar to Revan to make it understandable/believable as to what he/she did, and that you don't feel alienated from the twist... The whole first and second game were to almost kick the jedi off their pedastal and show why someone would walk away from what the movies built up to be the Justice League of Star Wars with super space wizards that can do no wrong. It still keeps the light/dark side of the force representing ultimately good and evil actions, but it does disenchant the Jedi as being a bunch of bureaucrats that are more worried about making a wrong decision than responding to a immediate threat (which obviously, many people can find frustrating). Obviously, it's still star wars, so dark side is corrupting and feeds off of strong emotions that eventually spiral you to classic villain "evil for sake of being evil", which is why Jedi actively try to AVOID these strong knee jerk reactions to avoid corrupting power of dark side (and why Revan/Malak fell victim of that corruption). All in all, they really did a good job of playing into the lore of star wars, while trying to detail out how someone could fall and "become" these villains. I wish they would have just made a KOTOR 3 instead of chasing money with an MMO (ruining what made KOTOR appealing), but oh well... That's just how the free market will do ya...
@@nezzee The biggest tragedy about their decision to make an old republic mmo instead of kotor 3 is, in my opinion, the fact that if you could strip the mmo part of SWtOR, it would be an amazing game with an amazing story and an insane level of replayability. @@Merembor Very true, The Emperor of the Sith into Valkorion was an awesome plot, the trailers for the eternal throne are still deserving of a movie imo
@@nezzee The problem with how the Jedi are portrayed is yes, it does show that your actions could be justified, but it's still extremely forced. @@JJJBunney001 Their particular inaction leading up to the Mandalorian Wars is explained in both KotOR 1 and 2, though. They had just fought a devastating war against Exar Kun and his Sith, with massive losses that crippled the Republic and the Jedi despite the victory. The Jedi, in particular, were still desperately trying to replenish their ranks as the Mandalorians started their attacks on the far flung worlds outside Republic space. It also didn't help that, quite obviously, the Jedi were in the midst of implementing numerous systemic reforms throughout the Order in a vain attempt to correct its perceived weaknesses that led to the fall of many to the Dark Side. They had been a very vast, decentralized, and rather unorganized mess. The reforms were meant to centralize the power and authority of the Order (the Jedi High Council, with smaller local councils answering ultimately to them) and standardize Jedi training and formalized a "code of conduct," if you will (e.g., forbidding marriage and family to Jedi, which had not been the case prior to the war with Exar Kun, when you had whole Jedi lineages and dynasties). Each reform would have naturally acted as a shock to the system, hopefully strengthening it over time but devastating in the meantime.

i just love how the jedi council "not doing much" is literally the theme of the next Kotor game, where the masters each have separate ruminations on passivity vs impulsivity.

You know, I was gonna hit up the Sand People history, but they wanted my Krayt pearl and I kind of backed out of it. Maybe I should have seen it through and reloaded after.
Probably the biggest improvement in KOTOR 2 was the fact that you actually run normal speed in the space suit. The plot is certainly less straight forward and the game loves it ambiguity and subverting expectations, but If you want a regular Star Wars story, with good Jedi and bad Sith, then Kotor 1 is better in this regards, I know I had a hard time with KOTOR 2 plot the first time around (and it doesn't help that large junks of the game got cut).

So i ended up cheesing his AI by laying down a bunch of mines and spamming him with grenades when he was stationary. Even when i played through with a more combat-oriented build i found this worked better. Really, the game's combat is pretty garbage when it takes away your party. Thankfully it makes up for it in other ways and most of the time in combat you get to use your full party

The trial at 53:30 can be absolutely hilarious if you get to a specific room in the sith base and properly rescue some local kids. It's been a while but I think the trial goes something like: why were you in the sith base? to kill sith why did you kill the sith? because they needed killing any closing remarks? they were trying to brainwash your kids, here's proof. can we go now? yes
Yeah, you can kill her, but I do think it's weird that somebody playing it full on light side would get this ending. I was able to turn her back to the light side every time I tried. I don't know the exact details, but I read somewhere that the dialogue in the final encounter has hidden points assigned to each dialogue option. Depending on what you choose, you can gain or lose points. If you didn't get enough of these hidden points through the choices you selected, you can't save her. So I guess he must've picked some of the "wrong" dialogue options in their final encounter.
If u complete the romance quest with her, after the kiss cutscene, and talk to her again afterwards, theres a glitch that doesnt let u redeem her at the end. Kotor 1 is star wars the movie the game. Kotor 2 is "what if we started to question how this universe actually work and what if the jedi and sith are more than good and evil ?"
KotOR was a masterpiece. KotOR 2 was borderline mediocre. I do not understand people who put 2 over 1. KotOR is the best Star Wars movie never made. KotOR 2 as a stand alone game is not even good. If you need the first game to make the 2nd one better, then it is just not better. The characters in the first game are amazing, in 2 they are boring compared to the original cast. KotOR is finished KotOR 2 is an unfinished buggy mess that requires an unofficial patch to make it into a full and playable game. _How could a botched mess be better than KotOR?_ Revan vs "woah you were the 1st man of Revan you are so cool woah" . 27:20 In the context of the Old Republic universe, and this storyline, I think the Jedi Council being portrayed as hypocritical, and a bit lazy is on purpose. It's real easy to role-play as a sith, when you see the Jedi Council just sit on its ass.
The council sitting around is what got Revan and all the Jedi that followed him to act based on Kotor2. They followed a hero into the darkness. And he turned as many of the rest as he could for the next war that swtor ruined.
@@stevencastjohn701 You don't need KOTOR 2 to see that Revan and the Jedi went to war because the Jedi council didn't want to jump in. If anything, KOTOR 2 ruined the story by trying to read too deep into Revan by making him some sort of messiah figure instead of another powerful Jedi and Sith.
@@comicsans1689 If anything it's the complete opposite of that, my dude - Revan was explicitly referenced as someone who was _not_ a messianic figure, merely a man, who could move people because he was a natural leader. Being Sith, Jedi, or something in between, was secondary to that trait, as was his power. I mean, let's think about the themes of KOTOR 2 for a moment: Radical individualism, force of will, power through adversity, surreptitiousness, rejection of fatalism - Revan has, as an established (or in this case, referenced) character, these traits in droves. He's held up to the player as the apex of certain values, which you can either strive for, or reject outright. Revan's role in KOTOR 2 is to be a tool for certain philosophical juxtapositions the player is presented with, and to build on certain mysteries, especially about the ends justifying the means, and the nature of the Sith. To be frank, KOTOR 1 has far more of a "chosen one" -narrative, though, to be fair, it's still quite subtle. Now, I want to make one critical distinction: The ending of KOTOR 2 gets vague as hell, and I can see your point if you're specifically talking about the final conversation you have with Kreia; I'm still not, to this day, entirely sure what they were trying to imply about Revan (and presumably also the Exile) going off to fight a secret war or something. Admittedly, that does get a bit messianic, especially when the implication is that Revan is waiting for the Exile to join him, even though there is no possible way he could ever know she had regained her powers or was even back in action, for that matter. Then there's also the fact that for some reason (???) he had to leave everything behind to join (or possibly lead?) the fight. It made sense for him to try and manoeuvre the galaxy towards preparing for a war against something needs galaxy to be unified against, but to go off and fight it alone makes no sense and kind of implies that the Jedi Civil War didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
@@BarlytheDwarf Going off of restored content and what Chris Avellone has said in interviews, it was basically going to be a supercharged version of what happened in TOR and the Revan novel. There was supposed to be these extra powerful Sith in the unknown regions that Revan was trying to unite the galaxy to fight, but it didn't make sense to fall to the dark side to do that. If stopping those Sith was Revan's true goal from the start, he could have easily gained the Republic's full support plus the Jedi that believe in him. All that would oppose him is the stubborn Jedi, which he could fight off with the Republic's backing (why would the Republic back the Jedi that turned their back on the Republic in this situation?). It seems like Chris Avellone was trying to take a page out of the EU with the Yuuzhan Vong and how Palpatine's Empire was originally created with the goal of unifying the galaxy against the Vong threat. It worked better then because Palpatine didn't divide the galaxy to accomplish it. If not for the rebels that formed after the Empire's establishment, Palpatine's plan would have worked great. I don't think Drew Karpyshyn originally envisioned Revan's fall as a sacrifice for the galaxy. The way that KOTOR 1 portrayed Revan indicated that he was a great man that was consumed by the thrill of power and battle after the Mandalorian Wars, which gives some credibility to the Jedi's caution. KOTOR 1 stressed clearly that even the best and brightest on the light side can be seduced by the dark side, which is in-line with George Lucas's ideas.
@@comicsans1689 The Empire wasn't created with the goal of defeating the Vong; Palpatine had already created the Empire when Thrawn realized that the Empire was well equipped and well organized to handle the Vong threat that Palpatine hadn't known about yet. Thrawn had also warned Palpatine that their resources would be better spent on larger, distributed fleets, rather than expensive, one-off threats like the Death Star. It was just tragically ironic that the Empire was ultimately the lesser of two evils, and was defeated before the greater evil could be addressed. It's also not unheard of for a Jedi to go to the dark side to defeat another dark sider - Luke did this himself to defeat the Palpatine clone in one of the books. But you are right that it would make more sense to lobby the Republic for support first, and try to coerce the Jedi to assist after the Republic was already moving against the external threat. Being as passive as they were, the Jedi were always more likely to get involved in a fight if their friends were already in it. As far as the messianic angle, I agree with both of you guys -- Revan was a great dude with a lot of character attributes who fell. The main reason to separate him from other Sith is that he didn't lose his intelligence or ability to gain his own wisdom over time -- maybe think of him like Gus Fring from the Breaking Bad universe (an intelligent man with a lot of insights on how people work and how to live a principled, if ignoble life). I chalk up Krea's declarations as just mere post-hoc prophecy, a poetic recounting of a historical event that will eventually become legend, the way people normally exaggerate events before writing them down.
Yooooo... you can romance Bastila and have a much deeper relationship character-wise with her. Then you can bring her back to the Light side... there is a lot of inter-playing dialogue that is missed unless certain things are done in order. You missed another sequence of the Maanan trial - if you prove the Sith are manipulating their youth, they immediately ban the Sith and remove any chance they could perform a take over. Oh, and seriously awesome script for this video. Loved the "fresh" take you had on it!
The great thing about this game was that you felt like you were actually in the star wars universe while playing this game unlike the new Star Wars and Star Trek movies which feel like generic universe
Agree on the movies, they try but it doesn't quite live up. But some of the recent Star Wars games are certainly fun and while they don't capture the same feel and spirit of OG Star Wars games (specifically SNES, N64, PS1, Xbox) they're enjoyable. I'd rather throw in KOTOR 1/2, Shadows of the Empire, Jedi Outcast, or even Super Star Wars over EA's Battlefront II for example.
@@informitas0117 I enjoyed Fallen Order, had that Jedi Outcast/Academy feel and the fairly open worlds were fun to explore. Also it was "free" to download with Game Pass Ultimate lol. Hoping they make a 2nd one, I'll gladly buy it.

Honestly, I loved how quirky Carth's voice acting was. He would stay on my team as long as I could keep him until the jedi arrived. Same with canderous
I liked his voice acting, too. Good thing my go-to team was always Carth + 2 Jedis, so he was always in my party. I found that having one ranged character helped avoid too much melee congestion.
1:07:02 Let me, a nerd, answer that: The reason is that the Masters need to stay on Coruscant and Dantooine to train new Knights. A Master isn't that much better in battle than a Knight, they just have a better understanding of the Force and the Jedi Code (Mace Windu, for example, was just as powerful as a Knight as he is when he's a Master. He only got promoted for putting in time and dedication). EDIT: Gameplay tip -- you can use any Dark Side Force power on the imprisoned jedi to drain them, and thus deprive Malak of his healing.
Technically no and yes a Master is appointed like you said through time and dedication but they aren't the same as a Knight, a knight is better then a Padwan at skills but mentally they are pretty close because they still try and do things and act in certain ways unlike a master who shouldn't act but be guided. The prequels show this perfectly as Jin is basically what Jedi are actually suppose to be good people but use the force where it is need to follow said path they feel
@@agamer203 A master will naturally have far higher skill in battle than a knight (knight Obi Wan would be flattened by many of the opponents he faces later on in the clone wars) however, their most drastic amount of growth would take place during the padawan and knight elevation.
I remember always leaving my main character at lvl 3 for the ENTIRE Taris segment. It was more difficult, but made the rest of the game MUCH more interesting.
1: If/When you do KoToR 2, definitely play with the restored content mod. It does as it says, restores content. KoToR 2 was rushed in production and a lot of really good content was cut in order to push it out. The mod restores all that content (Or at least most of it) and definitely helps flesh out the story. Also, I highly recommend playing as a female character in the 2nd game simply because a lot of interactions with a specific character are the absolute BEST as a female (The best lines) but it also fleshes out a lot of content when played "canonically" as a female. Though it is a game meant for multiple playthroughs. 2: I do agree that the KoToR game would be better in this day and age with an option to play as a gray Jedi. I know you can still RP as one, but the power buffs you get going full light or full dark are so strong that trying to beat Malak at the end of the game as a stealth-based player with high persuasion and wisdom focus was really like trying to win a race without the use of your legs. (I'm so glad I like to horde grenades and mines is all I have to say on that front). 3: You can cut down on the end battle with Malak by going around and either draining the dead Jedi people yourself and/or destroying them. This makes it so Malak can't use them to replace his health. So it can save on time. 4: You can actually save Bastilla and get her to use her battle meditation for the good guys. 5: I think the most fun I have with this game is when I play it "canonically" through the Revan storyline. Male character->Go light side->Romance Bastilla->Do ALL the side quests->Save the world. There's something satisfying in playing the lore out that way. I usually end up doing a run-through of both games back to back, both canon runs. I usually switch up where Korriban falls on the list of worlds. Sometimes I do it last (Because then it falls after the revelation) and sometimes I do it first, each with different headcanons for it. When I do it first, my headcanon is that it's like Revan's first true test as a Jedi after leaving the academy, testing his will to be a Jedi, with Bastilla spying on his progress and reporting his movements to the Council. When done last, my headcanon is it's Revan's test for himself, trying to see if the dark side still holds any sway over him because, at this point in my run, I have romanced Bastilla and that is strictly against the Jedi Order. So, in theory, the dark side should already have a hold on Revan according to the Jedi teachings and Revan knows he would do anything to save the woman he loves. But he finds himself able to push through the temptation, and with some guidance from Jolee (The only Gray Jedi he knows who has fallen in love and not fallen to the Dark Side) gets through the planet without becoming the one thing he fears the most: Who he was in the past. But I truly love these games and the Star Wars franchise (Rise of Skywalker? What's that?). I would absolutely love for them to get a remake, and there are rumors that one *might* be coming. Just as there are rumors that a movie based on the plot of the games *might* be coming as well. Time will only tell. I know the games have their issues and a lot of the story beats can fall flat in this day and age (Ex: Dark Side is only by being the most mustache-twirling villain and Light Side is only by being the goody-two-shoes Mary/Gary Sue. And Neutral is kind of bland). I still love it though
To me the ultimate test for a Light Side Revan is the tomb of Adjunta Pall. The fact that not only you can resolve the situation without combat (well, without fighting anything sentient) but if you have enough Light Side points and Persuation you can *redeem* the Ghost of one of the first ever Sith and allow him to pass on to the Jedi afterlife and see his old master again. *That* is the greatest proof that Revan is not corrupted by the dark side anymore in my opinion
This game was amazing. My dad was a drug addict and sold every game of mine when he'd drop me at school, this is the only game I hid. I remember playing at least 20 different games and changing my playstyles, eventually making a game out of how few level ups I would have to use before unlocking Jedi powers. For a while it was lvl 5, then it was lvl 3. You could save up all your level ups and unlock many more force powers/abilities, God I loved it.

Absolutely no texture issues to speak of, the only glitch I had was during the trial quest on Manaan, even though I convinced the Rodian to give me the information, the quest wouldn't update, and as such, I could not get the good ending to the quest and the guy was sentenced to life imprisonment. When it comes to the Revan stuff, I interpreted Bastila's reaction as a "he's dead?!" reaction, and I assumed that the computer was programmed by the Infinite Empire to only open for people who shared their (very sith like) ideals. Granted, this was because I was already AWARE of the Infinite Empire before playing this game, so maybe that in and of itself threw me off and made the Revan reveal WAY cooler for me.
1:07:17 as a nerd I can answer this simply. Do 5 star generals IRL go directly to the front lines by themselves? No, they do not. In Star wars Jedi masters are essentially a cross between the aforementioned general and maybe something like a police commissioner? Take off darkside Bastila's clothes. she has new undies. 16 yo me loved that attention to *ahem* detail.
More like a general and a college dean, or perhaps a catholic cardinal. Also there aren't that many Jedi masters and they have too many desk job tasks they have to do.
@@thefatecontrol I saw another youtube vid on the timelines. Apparently the jedi masters were basically knights that settled down and taught until the order centralized after repeated sith/rebel jedi broke away.
1:08:15 There's a great example of this sort of thing done right at the end of Jedi: Fallen Order. Spoilers Below: After beating the final boss, Vader comes in, kills her, then casually swats aside your mentor. After that, you fight him. He has no health bar. After a few seconds, he gets bored of effortlessly parrying your attacks and starts to choke you. You then have to use the Force to fling a bit of scenery at him, which he catches without even looking. He tosses you away and throws said bit of scenery after you, giving you an opportunity to escape through a closing blast door, which Vader proceeds to crumple like tissue paper. Then it's just you running for your life as Darth Fucking Vader is absolutely shredding everything around you.
Fun fact: Juhani (the Jedi girl who joins your party on Dantooine) was the only character in the game who you could also romance as a female character. In later versions they even changed it so she could only be romanced by another female character which is pretty cool.
Jamie Chatfield incorrect, if this was true then fem Revans would always be forced to kill her if LS, you need to complete her story but you don’t have to romance her
46:30 Revan did not put the star maps there and has no control over them. Plus, you can always enter the questions "wrong", completely missing out on the Revan connection.
The Star Map was already there, the big hologram thing was put there by Revan, the hologram tells you something like "This facility was builded to protect the Star Map bla bla bla 75% or so chances that it was builded by the one who came after"
Excellent!!! I agree with all of your complaints and suggestions about how this game could be better... strangly I was never "allowed" to talk to the script writers, lead artists, or other key people that created this game so my music was written pretty much blind to the story ... I guess they want to keep twisting and spinning the plot until the last minute and us composers just needed to "poop out a galactic unit" of "music" for all these possible manifestations of what this game would be... I personally worked through the holidays to make sure they had what they needed... but I never met "them" aka Bioware
God, I appreciate your usage of the DK Country “water level” music for Manaan on so many levels. It was *just* faint enough, but I eventually figured it out.
If you have (iirc) force drain, then you can use it on them before Malak can, so that you get to heal, and not him, but you get DS points... which mean nothing at that stage in the game
The most impressive part for me when I played it is how they still made each area feel unique and cool. I was like "not Tatooine again ffs" at first but then it really delivered, same with other places and gave me a great appreciation of the story. I actually got the twist spoiled when I was ~60% through the game and it blew my mind a bit, but only made me more anxious to finish it. My fav part was the sith academy feeling though, I loved the cutthroat/backstabby ambient and knowing who to trust and how much. Definitely one of my favourite settings I wish was revisited more. Edit: ALSO I JUST REALISED YOU TOTALLY SKIPPED THE MOST DOWNRIGHT EVIL CHOICE IN THE GAME (Mission's fate)

You know, Korriban becomes laughably easy at level 18. Jumping, slashing everything with two overpowered lightsabers, force waving things. At that point I could probably have done the whole planet solo, but Jolee and HK-47 have to fantastic commentary to leave them behind.
One of my favourite things is how the Jedi ignored the Mandalorians before, then when you go to Dantooine, they are continuing to ignore them. It is great worldbuilding, showing how they really haven't changed at all, even with everything that has happened

9:30 This is largely the factor that stops me from thoroughly exploring dialogue trees because I find myself getting drawn out of the immersion after one or two questions because I project myself onto whoever I'm talking to and I would not have the patience to engage with some of these conversations like they're presented in these games. 1) Where's John? 2) I heard he was kidnapped by the Hells Angels for ransom. 1) Who are the Hells Angels? 2) They're a motorcycle gang with a history of kidnapping people. 1) What's a motorcycle? 2) Are you serious? It's like a car but with only two wheels. How have you never seen a motorcycle before? 1) Where can I find the Hells Angels? 2) Well, just about everywhere but mostly California, Connecticut, and Ohio. 1) Where's California? 2) I'm about to stab you right now... @Heavy Metal Collector Also, the Intro Crawl was in a lot more than just the core films back then. There was a lot of good games that had this style of intro crawl.
There's far too many comments to check, but for future reference, to make the final Malak fight shorter, the player can run through the room and kill all the frozen Jedi. To make it even simpler, use a blaster and you don't have to use Force points.

@@Mr._Anderpson I call it "the great milking". When it's run the Skywalker saga into the ground, maybe we'll get some good new stories on screen from the Old Republic. Here's hoping.
Some issues I have with some of your points:
"The jedi council does very little"- this is addressed as a problem within the story, not a flaw within the worldbuilding.
I like how it naturally flows into KOTOR 2's story.
"It desperately needs a remake - probably the one that it'll never get."
Famous last words.
They better not ruin it with political correctness.

@@nezzee The problem with how the Jedi are portrayed is yes, it does show that your actions could be justified, but it's still extremely forced. It's not bad writing exactly but it was lazy.

In the context of the Old Republic universe, and this storyline, I think the Jedi Council being portrayed as hypocritical, and a bit lazy is on purpose.

HK-47 hands down is one of the reason why this game is 10/10 for me
Playing this back in 2003 for Christmas was mind blowing. It's still one of my favorite games as well as Kotor2.
@@ImJustTen ...but skill in battle is still essentially the same between them?
There's also a light or neutral side ability you can use to free them.
@@Draeckon 0_0 really? Cool. Thanks for telling me
@@agamer203 A master will naturally have far higher skill in battle than a knight (knight Obi Wan would be flattened by many of the opponents he faces later on in the clone wars) however, their most drastic amount of growth would take place during the padawan and knight elevation.

He uses the KOTOR 2 soundtrack during the video, so he’s aware it exists at least.
Want a great movie franchise? Follow the rise of the sith empire. It is. Priceless.
@@Luchux177 I disagree. Dealing with Griff in a patient manner is the true test for LS Revan

Spoilers Below:
After beating the final boss, Vader comes in, kills her, then casually swats aside your mentor.
I never knew that. I always kill her early for the second lightsaber early on
WAIT, HOW DID HE GET BASTILLA TO DIE?! She like, ALWAYS comes back to the light when I've played, didn't know she could refuse.
It is easy if you pick the wrong choices in each conversion
Simple, his choices were based on the fact that he didn't really like her from the beginning.
I reloaded every time I had to kill her
Only declaring your love for her, after successfully romancing her on the Ebon Hawk, will redeem her. Any other dialogue option will fail.
Jamie Chatfield incorrect, if this was true then fem Revans would always be forced to kill her if LS, you need to complete her story but you don’t have to romance her
