I've been searching for this ALL my life. I'm a lefty and I never knew how to release the club using my left hand correctly. I don't know how I missed this. I've always wanted to just go out there and just wallop the ball, I couldn't coordinate it. That late release crap screwed us athletes up. The only way I could do it was a backhanded flip with my right hand. SO... I taught myself how to score.... but I've never been a real woman LOL. now all I have to do is push a little with the left and and the club slowly releases with some UMPF on it . Thank you.... LOL
Tremendous vids Jess. Hope to meet you in the future . Where would you recommend to stay near your facility for a weeks visit to your golf academy. Best regards
You are the best instructor on you tube. And probably anywhere else!! The most simple basic drills that all key on three or four areas in the swing. Your channel should be exploding all over the internet. Keep cranking out the great videos!
Why didn't I ever think of that? That makes sense, otherwise, I'm concentrating on keeping my left arm straight only thinking of my left arm, then that just causes too much stiffness ,throughout my body, which slows down swing speed dramaticly also causes inconsistent ball contact because I am not flowing freely. A great exercise to get warmed up with to release tension and stretch. Thank you, Jess, I'm glad these RUclips videos stay up.
Good grief, this video lesson/golf tip describes exactly what I have been doing wrong, it’s like you read my mind, and for the first time in years I have an idea for improvement. Thanks !!!
I have never seen your channel before. But what a great tip . So I took your tip to the backyard net. First swing was flush and then the next, and so on . Thank you so much for tip, incredible !!!
Thank you Jess great video , that’s definitely a key thing I need to correct from watching myself on recorded videos . My lead left arm not straight enough So using the right arm to push it away makes perfect sense
Hi Jess. Watched many, many of your videos. I also have the Stack and Tilt book. They say to keep both arms connected to the upper chest thru the swing. Your comment? Thanks. Gerry
@@JessFrankGolfAcademyBocaRaton This is a keeper....Used it yesterday (19 Handicap) and the wind was kicking in Boynton Beach. I shot a 92! If my putting was a better, I could of shaved another 4 strokes easily.
I like all your videos I’ve seen so far. When you show a bad swing, I say that’s me. I’ve been using my week off because of my back and watching your videos. That right elbow pocket I think is really going to change my swing to more consistent ball strikes. I’ve been getting better, but that elbow move I believe will help keep my right arm closer to my body on the down swing rather than swinging out over the top. Thanks
What a GREAT tip! I watched and immediately went down to the driving range and tried it. I have ALWAYS had a weak/bent left arm. I started hitting my pitching wedge which I normally hit 140. Implementing this technique in 2 minutes I was hitting it 160 -165! AMAZING, BUT TRUE! YOU GOT ME!
Great tip. Can't wait to get to the range and try this. I go over the top, hit from my back foot a lot. Think its probably arms collapsing on down swing. This could really help
You are a good teacher, Jess. So, what should be going thru my mind as I start the takeaway. Should I be taking the club back with only the arms and quiet hands? At what point am I focused on pushing away with the right arm?
As I review again today I appreciate the need to be conditioned to use the right arm to help keep the left arm straight. But since strength can be used in only one area at a time, beginning the downswing the strength needs to be applied to the left leg and left heel. I guess practice helps build proper muscle tone so that strength can be applied as needed.
Jess, if you setup is done correctly to the golf ball and you make a correct backswing, will your arms and hands naturally maintain a correct alignment posture on the downswing? The reason I ask, is IM trying to eliminate as many swing thoughts as possible to swing the club. Is Stack & Tilt golf method a fluid swing or more of a hit motion, like hammer in the back of the ball? Thanks, Dave
Hey Dave! Yes sir! The build in draw is keep the shaft constant without manipulating the club face. Stack and tilt is a system for golf built around a 3 dimensional description of the swing. You will use all of your body to create power and speed. Hope that helps:)
Why not just push with the left, since that’s the arm you want to keep straight? Seems that pushing with the right hand will eventually interfere with lag we want developed at the top and the downswing.
I suppose this exercise could help control arm speed and prevent your arms from taking over the golf swing and going faster than the body, the bane of amateur golfers.
Hey Andy thanks for the question! You want structure in your arms. You do not want to be stiff where you are knocking yourself backwards and topping the ball. Set up with no tension is important too. Hope that answers your question
I have trouble keeping my left arm perfectly straight going from P3 to P4. It straightens back out coming back down and I am getting in good position at P6. Is this something that is a major issue.
@@JessFrankGolfAcademyBocaRaton So with a golf club in hand I was able to keep my left arm straight. I hit 125 balls. I even hit a couple of draws. I still push some right but not the banana slice I used to have. I am not where I want to be yet but my distances are better and reasonably predictable. I seem to be really saying my irons. On a positive note I should be able to hit and hold on the greens. LOL. On the whole a positive first day on the range.
I've tried to do this but the problem I have is too much feel is in my arms and my body turn and weight shift go south. My ball striking is bad when I focus on what my arms are doing and better (not great) when I focus on legs and torso.
No. It’s not good. It’s easy to hold and push the left by the right hand as you have demonstrated. But it is not easy to push the left by right and make the left arm straight when you are already gripping the golf club by both hands. I am expecting you will demonstrate with the actual proper grip with both hand in a golf club. But you did not do it.
Pushing the right arm out is called extensor action and the grip does play a role by pushing your right hand into your left palm. This is a drill a lot of players have used to success. Henrik Stenson and Vijay Singh use this alot :) thank you for watching!

The exercise of pulling and stretching on my lead arm to keep it straight without a club while implementing a left shoulder tilt.

Great advice. I see golfers having too much tension in their left arm trying to keep it straight. Think of your left arm as more free wheeling.

soft wrists firm fingers is a good one Ian!

Thomas Wilcox hey Thomas stay in touch! Let me know how it goes!
Why not just push with the left, since that’s the arm you want to keep straight? Seems that pushing with the right hand will eventually interfere with lag we want developed at the top and the downswing.
Too much tension in the left arm and shoulder when you try to just keep your left arm straight:)
very true....can't break down one's arm or your swing will go haywire.
Thank you for watching Beanie!
Are you also pushing away with your left arm?
Yes sir both arms. Thanks for watching!
I suppose this exercise could help control arm speed and prevent your arms from taking over the golf swing and going faster than the body, the bane of amateur golfers.
Yes! This drill helps you maintain the width needed in a golf swing. Thank you Jacques!
Great reminder to correct a chronic problem.
Phenomenal great to hear this video helped you!
Does the T-shirt indicate that you’re from Scotland? FYI I’m from the Erskine clan!!
No from Chicago lol!
How do you avoid adding tension to your right arm? Or does that even matter?
Hey Andy thanks for the question! You want structure in your arms. You do not want to be stiff where you are knocking yourself backwards and topping the ball. Set up with no tension is important too. Hope that answers your question
Is it okay to soften the trail elbow at setup?
100% Barry!
I have trouble keeping my left arm perfectly straight going from P3 to P4. It straightens back out coming back down and I am getting in good position at P6. Is this something that is a major issue.
Hey Bill! Don’t swing back so far. Keep the right arm straighter and the right shoulder retracted that should help.

I understand this is a drill, but I am concerned that your lead arm is no longer connected to your body.
Yes, the lead arm is still connected. It is definitely an exaggeration drill:)
You start by saying (twice) that you have a couple of ways of improving this but you only talk about one. Did you forget one?
I can't play good golf cause I just can't do everything correctly in the swing. I SUCK!!!
Keep it simple Leonard. You can only have 1 or 2 swing thoughts. Simplify:)
No. It’s not good. It’s easy to hold and push the left by the right hand as you have demonstrated.
