Back to 200 yard drives and 135+ yard 7 irons by implementing the principals of stack and tilt that you and Tom teach. And I’m sure I’m not executing exactly as you recommend, but what a difference already. Thank you!!
I'm 70 and just getting into stack and tilt. After a lifetime of inconsistent ball-striking, I think this is giving me the best chance of finally making solid, repeatable contact.Videos like this are great because they give me a checklist of reminders when I get to the range. Thanks.
I been doing S&T for a year been going well. Watching you has elevated my swing much better with my left foot flared out more than my right which gives me a great turn. I'm also swinging not as hard and contact is amazing. Keep up the good work
Your video totally unlocked something for me! I had most of the set-up correct but didn't have the handle forward enough at address...holy cow! Totally corrected my path and ball compression! Thank you!!
Whenever I revert to stack and tilt I always hit the ball much better, but I always seem to drift back to trying to conventional shift golf swing, which I struggle with, but feel pressured by conventional instructors that this the best way. But I think it boils down to what suits you and your physical make up. I’m going to persevere with stack and tilt now, as the strike is so much better. I’m struggling a little bit with direction and target alignment.
Hey Gary! Great to hear your success with ST! Alignment is based on club face angle and then setting your body in producing the certain ball flight. Remember the club face is responsible for 98% of the starting direction and the path controls the curve :)
this is really great. i'm an early extender. now in the fall season the fairways are getting a little wetter, so you get extra punished if you hit turf first then ball, especially from the rough, distance has come down soo much
Great video, Jess! Thanks! Just starting with S&T, here. I really like your idea of starting at address with bending your left knee over your left foot!
A few years ago I stumbled upon S&T accidentally through the flamingo drill my teaching pro showed me. He wasn't teaching s&t just trying to get me off my right side. When I saw how it helped I started setting up in an impact position(60/40) and it helped. I didn't necessarily tilt my left shoulder down as you show but I'm trying to implement that now. Will watch more of your videos.
@@JessFrankGolfAcademyBocaRaton I've been working on tilting my left shoulder down but it seems like it promotes fat shots. Not all the time but more than I would like. What do you think is causing this? Maybe tilting too far down?
i love the crushed can and the 8 in laptop case hip shift and the pinched in elbows at set up. please discuss maintaining the flying wedge. keep up the good work.
Flamingo drill... brilliant! I’ve just started focussing on a spot 45 degrees and about 4” behind the ball to swing over. This is to counteract my usual coming over the top tendency. With the weight forward it’s helping get better contact and on a better path. Also trying to have my hands in front of the ball at impact is helping get my weight forward which I always struggled with. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for posting Jess. I definitely struggle with hitting it fat. I tried stack and tilt at the range recently and the results look promising. I was also surprised how much easier it was to take the club back in the backswing if I keep the weight on the front foot plus turning my toes out. I am a 61 year old 18 handicapper (so pretty ordinary) but on a couple of occasions I hit some great 4 irons which I normally can’t hit !

Another great video...I was struggling at the range today, and after watching this video, I now know I was leaning too far forward. We're gettin there...
@@JessFrankGolfAcademyBocaRaton I worked out that upper body issue of leaning too far forward today at the range, but then was hitting fat, and out on the toe when I started to try to tuck the butt, as well as the reverse shoulder tilt in p8 to p9. Hey Jess I have a question. When you place the club behind the ball at setup, should the ball be slightly towards the heel or directly in the center of the face?
This is also the type of swing that David Duvall played years ago (or it looks like to me). I know he set up with the weight more on his left foot. He was rated number one before Tiger Woods hit the seen.
Same set up, but u gotta keep arm straighter and extend the spine toward top of back swing which promotes shoulder tilt in the down swing. Also push hips toward target a little at set up. Hope this helps, I'm also learning
Weight forward - handle forward gave me great feel, contact, pure strike, etc.. However, my ball flight wasn't draw - it's an unmanageable hook. Any ideas on that?
Yes. You are pushing the path too far too the right with a club face which is too closed to the path. Less closure of the face and less path to the right will help you. Let me know thanks!
Left knee over left toes is new . The hips a little forward is also new. I can see how it keeps me over the ball. How it helps me take a divot just beyond the ball. Grounding the club just behind the ball makes it possible to hit a little fat. I’m trying to keep the club just a little off the ground behind the ball. I think if the club touches the ball it would be a stroke, a penalty.
I know this is a setup video, so I'll restrict my questions (mostly) to that. It seems that, because you like to bend your lead knee forward a bit, your shoulders become slightly closed to the target line. Are your feet and hips square to the target line? Is your clubface square to the target line at address (I guess I'm asking if the grip is neutral)? Finally, how flexible should the lead wrist be when practicing, say with smaller swings?
Hi 58yo, 11 handicap. Very recent convert to stack a tilt. 2 sessions at range 1 round and subscriber. Set up more weight and down force through swing on front foot (rest of s and t I'm still working on). Early reaction is very exciting (10- 15 yards extra per club eg 7i was 150 now 165y). Only concern is, boy were my knees and hips aching overnight. Concerned that I won't be able to keep it up. Any advice please? Thanks From UK
Awesome to hear but you shouldn't be experiencing any discomfort. Maybe because you never used those muscles before. But becareful you aren't restricting anything.
I’ve been trying to learn stack and tilt, but still seem to have a snap hook so somehow still cutting across and not really swinging to the right. Also contact on irons not great. Any thoughts?
I noticed that if I were to attempt to lift my left heel even just a little that I would experience pain in the left ankle. Hogans’ swing was too difficult to follow when it came to the backswing. With his swing the weight shifts to the right then back to the left. To be successful with Hogans’ style I believe would take great strength with the inside muscles. The weight shift from left to right was too complicated to follow. I need to give stack and tilt a lot of time. I have to accept that my left heel doesn’t leave the ground. My confidence is higher with stack and tilt.
The ball position varies with the ball more forward you need a little more hip slide forward which increases the angle of attack. Slightly more tilt to the right with the driver.

Your conventional set up, that all of your students have as you showed, is not at all how the conventional set up is taught. I like stack and tilt, but you must describe the conventional set up properly, and not like all of your students seem to come to you with. The differences between the two swings then can be compared honestly. No taught swing would be a feet pointed in, hands behind the ball and weight behind the ball at set up!
I wish that were the case J I but unfortunately that is what is currently taught in the market place from many but not all golf instructors. This is something that is also told to them by their friends. Thank you for your thoughtful comments and I appreciate you watching my videos. Have a great day:)
I love your techniques, but you have a habit of not finishing the sentence and going back to something else. Very distracting no big deal but I’m a journalism guy and that’s a poor way to communicate. I.e. make your point about feet flying out and why but don’t go halfway through it and start talking about club position or something else and then you never seem to get back to the original point. Sorry just a attempt at a positive criticism you have a wealth of knowledge it could be communicated in a more concise organized way.
too much time dedicated to showing the wrong way to do things ... also, there is no need to exaggerate the wrong things so much ... I have never in my life seen somebody set up pigeon toed. we are intelligent enough to appreciate the fact that subtle changes can make a big difference.
@@JessFrankGolfAcademyBocaRatonthanks! will do .. and regarding the subtle changes, they ARE important ... for instance, in the setup .. if you can find the data (shouldn't be hard to test) things like "opening your back foot even just 5 degrees allows for 10 degrees more rotation in the backswing, which can add up to 10 MPH clubhead speed, which on a well struck driver is 15 extra yards" ... then people can better appreciate the nuance of the changes, rather than a wildly exaggerated movement that makes them immediately dismiss since they don't have that particular problem.

It’s only a 13 minute video! Gees
Just get to the meat and potatoes -
Thanks for watching!
Have a close friend watch your broadcast and he can verify that you don’t stick to the point you tend to ramble
Yeah earlier videos I was finding my stride. But thanks. Hope you find the info helpful:) Keep watching all my videos I will take the critiques:)
It's Tom's KFC bro! Great video!
Thank you Jerry! Love a little Krispiness!

Good video, but to me it would be more important to see what I need to do, not what I don't need to do to make a decent golf swing.
I demonstrate both:) Thank you for watching!
@@JessFrankGolfAcademyBocaRaton OK Thank you
@@golfeisen I do online lessons if you need help:)
You can’t half woffle
Thanks Chris!
More than half of the video is showing you the wrong way. why spend so much time on that? Why ingrain that image?
Thanks for the feedback! My shorts are much more concise check those out :)
Thank you Billy! Maybe you want to write a script for me :)) 😁
Get the point to us a little quicker
Lex Fowell yes I agree always trying to get immediately into the tip! Thanks for watching!
Hate to sound critical, we all have a way of doing things but you should know, once your lesson is revealed it is quality
Way too much talk. Just get to the point and explain it.
I agree Steve! Will work on it!
Maybe you need to go direct to the instruction and skip the explanation on why this, why that...
Hey Delta! Thanks for the feedback!
What are you talking about?
'
1 minute content, 12 minutes blather.
👊👊👊
Shame you take sooooo looooong to explain.
Hey Barry thanks for the feedback!
Too redundant!
Repetition pierces the dullest of minds!
too much time dedicated to showing the wrong way to do things ... also, there is no need to exaggerate the wrong things so much ... I have never in my life seen somebody set up pigeon toed. we are intelligent enough to appreciate the fact that subtle changes can make a big difference.
Excellent Mike! I have improved the delivery less what's wrong and more what to do:) Check out my newer videos:)
