      Tom, you’re a great teacher. You simplify and explain and it makes sense. You have helped my game tremendously. Other instructors often attempt to over address each subject in their lesson, making their style of teaching sometimes difficult to duplicate. You make it appear simple when we all know how difficult golf can be OR we individually make it. To many of us do not understand how to practice. Watch how Tom is teaching and follow his lead.

    At age 13 I had a senior handicap of 3 and quite by accident was using my version of tilt and turn method. It was when I turned pro that my problems started. A succession of head pros enforced swing changes which over the years turned my head to mush and I too wanted to give golf up for good. It's great now to be able to hit the ball again having seen a bunch of your vids. Thank you so much for saving my sanity. It's just a little late for me as I'm now 66 years young. That's fabulous, Jim!! We all would do well to keep some type of "reset button" swing key in our back pocket to summon up when we start leaking oil, and this is a great one for golfers who have a tendency to flatten out over the course of a round.
      With regard to getting that hcp down, have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      I'm glad you enjoyed it, Keith!!
      Yes - This swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Tom, first let me say I enjoy your common sense albeit alternative approach to golf instruction, and I get what you are saying. However, I've also been watching a guy named Jim Venetos demonstrating his unique approach to simplify the golf swing. He doesn't tilt. Both you and Jim advocate putting more weight/pressure on the lead foot. Jim's approach is predicated on 70% weight on the lead foot, but he prepositions his setup by also turning slightly to the trailing side. Then he swings in a circular in to out path keeping as still as possible. Both techniques seem to work for me. Please feel free to comment, and keep up the good work!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад +1

      @TheBanjoFlyBoy,
      I've seen some of Jim's content - definitely some similarities and differences, but we are both united in our respective goals to get you playing your best golf so you can enjoy this great game for a lifetime.
      My advice to you is as follows: I think there are enough similarities that you should be able to experiment with both methods without completely turning yourself into a disheveled pretzel. Determine which method performs best for you in terms of: 1) body-friendliness so you can enjoy the game unencumbered by pain and/or discomfort for many years to come, 2) producing crispy impact and a desirable, predictable, repeatable ball flight, 3) providing sufficient power and distance to play the course, and 4) being low-maintenance so you can spend much more time playing golf and not playing "golf swing".
      Should you wish to get on the fast track and truly give the swing method I teach a fair shot, please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only platform that breaks down and greatly simplifies the entire learning process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. If you have watched some of Tom's stuff, and incorporated some of his ideas into your swing, I cannot stress enough how the TILT is not just an element of this swing, it is the CORE of this swing!
    I probably should've realized this: after all it is called Stack and TILT (!) but when I first became a Saguto fan, he doesn't beat the "stack and tilt" drum that much, per se.
    The tilt facilitates the Hogan-like, close-to-the-body punch. Almost renders it inevitable.
    When I started tilting, everything FELL INTO PLACE, and I understood the swing.
    As Tom says, it's gonna feel wrong, uncomfortable, weird ... until you start nailing balls like never before ... and then you will never go back.

    The important thing to remember is to control the size of the shoulder tilt and turn for those of you who are supple enough to turn them to much !

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад

      Most folks are capable of side-tilting and extending the spine, and since the setup facilitates a stress-free 45 degrees of hip turn, most folks can also achieve the 45 degrees of shoulder turn needed to get to a full 90 degrees, John!
      The Stack & Tilt swing is a very body-friendly method. For me this is supported by my personal experience as a player, and furthered by the fact that the majority of my students are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
      Should you wish to give this swing a fair shot by learning it properly, please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. Hey Saguto Man, you are hitting a 175 yd. 7 iron at 90 mph and say you aren't working hard. Is that the swing speed you use when playing? If not, what is your swing speed for a 7 iron normally? I don't think that I can reach 90 mph but I'll take 80 if it will get me a 160 yard shot. Do you think that is do-able? Thanks for another great video.

      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад

      That's my normal swing, Ken. I'll typically hit my 7 iron 165 - 175 yards, but I can dial it up or down from there if called for.
      There's no need for you to try to overswing in order to hit a certain swing speed - in fact that can cause more harm than good. But when you get the motions down properly and learn to use the ground to your advantage you're going to be amazed at the effortless distance you can achieve!
      Cheers!

    What's your advice to stop pulling up and extending hip after a tilt backswing. I keep topping my drives... frustrating

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад

      Gregory,
      When the hips stop their 45 degree turn and the shoulders stop their additional 45 degree turn you've got the full 90 - any effort to continue the backswing beyond that is going to pull you out of your tilted orientation and shift your weight back. This moves your swing's center and low point backward, and unless you make some heroic moves to get your downswing back on track a variety of mishits will surely result.
      It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, and common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards learning and owning this swing. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. I've been using this method since stack and tilt got popular. I smiggidy smoke my irons but 3H 3W and 1D can jam you up because maintaining that tilt with the longer clubs is crucial and easy to lean (head) towards the target at top of backswing and easy to get too upright & shoulders too level at impact with longer clubs. Gotta have spine tilted away from target at impact. I have a little different thought for my 3 least lofted clubs. Pre tilting and swinging around that tilt and the feeling of tilting for my irons which really gives me that compression of the ball feeling

      @usha tewari,
      I do my best to convey different "feels" or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all unique physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with me may not necessarily work for you. Furthermore, a feel or thought that performs well for you this week may run its course or get overdone and not play out so nicely next week, so it's good to have alternates to call upon if needed. The key takeaway here is that no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired motion or position. (It's like a multiple choice test with no wrong answer!) So with regard to the downswing "trigger" it could be the feeling of tilting your trail side, or dropping your arms, or rolling to the inside of your trail foot, or sliding your hips towards the target while keeping your swing center intact, etc. Which of these - if any - is the most effective downswing trigger for you is ultimately going to be yours to determine. Having said that there is likely some content that you may find helpful in this regard within this playlist of my downswing related videos: ruclips.net/p/PLV62KxT7Mp7Jxi814RQddJx3wkHqxqhio
      It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. Welcome back to this great game, Rob! Yes - unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎
      By the way, have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and so much more there. So many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. More thoughts on tilt and waggle. Tom, you don't do a waggle. The waggle, for me, gives a quick visual of the arc my club will take. As every club takes a different arc, it helps me to see the angle my shoulders will rotate on. At set up, there is a natural cupping of the left wrist. Imagining the circle the club describes as the shoulders rotate and bringing the club head around allows me to naturally flatten the wrist at the top of my back swing. The waggle, as The Hogan might say, reminds me, before I turn, to keep my arms tucked in. The big thing for me with the waggle is visualizing the circle that the club describes and knowing as I take the club around my wrist will automatically flatten.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Месяц назад

      I have not issue whatsoever with a properly executed waggle as it provides a mini rehearsal of the backswing path.

    Hey Sagu, I've been watching this video over and over and over again...but besides tilting you're doing something pretty slick with your hips at contact; like snapping your hips towards the target but you haven't mentioned any of that in your video. Hi Tom. I understand the left tilt as you turn the left shoulder under the chin to the top of the backswing. But on the downswing through impact and post-impact how important is it for the left tilt to become a right tilt? Being right-side dominant I always want to get my right shoulder involved. Looking at down the line videos of Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood (especially) what jumps out at me is how vertical their shoulders seem to be post-impact (before coming out of posture) and the fact the right shoulder looks like it returns to the position it was at set-up as the ball is struck - it doesn't encroach towards the ball. Thoughts? Given "over the top" is a right shoulder problem (for right-handed swingers) could you please point me to one of your fine instructional videos that deals with the right shoulder? Keep up the good work. Thanks again.

      @davidstevan1,
      Another viewer just asked me a similar question. Here is an excerpt of my reply: That was not within the scope of this particular episode... Having said that, the tilting of the trail side is a "feel" that I do teach. Yes - it is an observed component of most effective golf swings; it just depends on the individual student as to whether they need to consciously execute that particular motion in their downswing because it comes naturally to some and not so much for others.

    I'm only in high school and i want to go somewhere in golf. this advice has helped my contact a bunch, but my concern is that it won't let me shallow the club a lot in the downswing. any ideas?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  6 месяцев назад +1

      I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement!
      With regard to "shallowing the shaft", what I teach is a one-plane motion, meaning that there is no independent, disconnected lifting of the arms and hands as you would see in a two-plane move. As such, there's no need to "drop it in the slot" if you've already put it there! Instead, by properly maintaining our connections the arms, hands, and club are "elevated" as a result of the tilting, turning, and extending motions while the lead arm crosses the chest 45 degrees, giving us that classic look and very powerful position at the top! In fact, watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      Beyond that, I am happy to assist you with your playing goals. To this end, if you would like to get on the fast track towards properly learning and owning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform - and if you can commit to the process - please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. Golf is indeed a very difficult sport, Douglas. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination - and we can - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives!

    Saw your video...went straight to the range. Irons were consistently more solid and longer. Fairway woods the same. But I couldn't get the driver to work. Is it the same move ?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement, Scott!
      Yes - it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver - which is common early in the learning process - it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

    Reminds me of how I “think” I played several years ago when I played my most consistent golf. I developed low back disc issues and was told it was my swing si have spent last several years seeking a “back friendly” swing.
    Looking to get back to a more consistent game. Could I have been doing something wrong in my follow through or somewhere else to cause the disc issues and not the swing in general?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад

      Hi Steve,
      It depends on the integrated motions of your previous swing. For example, if your swing included some Stack & Tilt components but you kept your trail knee flexed and/or allowed weight to shift into your trail side, then some bodily stress and discomfort could have resulted over time.
      Properly executed, the Stack & Tilt swing is a very body-friendly method. For me this is supported by my personal experience as a player with prior lower back issues, and furthered by the fact that the majority of my students are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
      Should you wish to give this swing a fair shot by learning it properly, please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. You see as an amateur golfer I always wondered why I took to the sport quite quickly, my hit to miss ratio was decent, as the hits would fly and carry sometimes (keyword “sometimes”). Soooo True Tom !
    I think the body winds and unwinds along the same path. So if you incorrectly Horizontally ROTATE your left shoulder on the backswing, it will horizontally unwind by rotating on the downswing causing OTT ! However, if you turn left shoulder DOWN on backswing it will unwind UP hence solving the OTT problem !!!
    Need to get the left shoulder DOWN. In fact, this has really helped me, I focus on my left shoulder to start my backswing, it's the hinge of the golf swing door. The 'feeling' is LEFT SHOULDER DOWN and SWING WIDE (arms straight) feel STRETCHED.
    I would recommend YOGA Trikonasana pose to help train these key golf muscles. Just do it halfway if you cannot touch your toes.
    I also think it helps trying to keep the clubface along the Target Line as long as possible on the backswing when turning, without disconnecting arms from body.
    Really helpful tip, thanks again Tom ;)

Accomplish that and yes - your scores will drop. As far as actual data, a recent survey of SagutoGolf online school members garnered a statistically significant return of over 200 responses with the following outcome: Upon enrolling in the online school, the average 18-hole score among all respondents was 95. Since being in the school these same students now report an average 18-hole score of 82 - a full 13-stroke improvement, along with the gratification and joy that goes with it. And that's for just $99 US/year.
      Cheers!
      Tom

    Thank you, Mr. Saguto. Best day at the range today after watching this video. The mental picture of maintaining my tilt throughout the swing, by imagining the wings of a plane, helped to keep my body in a great position for a more effortless swing. This kept me on an inside to out path and allowed my arms/hands to release naturally and gave me the great feeling of an effortless swing with great ball flight and distance. Every shot was solid and would have been in play out on the course. Thank you for this!

      That's fantastic, Chris!! I'm glad to know that this episode resonated well with you; you've obviously done an exceptional job digesting my lesson content, incorporating it into your swing, and taking ownership of it!!
(It's like a multiple choice test with no wrong answer!)
      Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!!
      Tom

    To all those out there who are like:
    "Yes, Tom is really cool, but the tilt thing just feels too weird"
    You've GOT to tilt.
    Trust me
    When you tilt, you'll understand the bit about straightening your right leg
    They go together, like peanut butter and jelly
    Do it ... you'll see what I mean.
    Tilt ... as you straighten right leg ... then mash the ball
    And you will be SO happy
    : )

    Great job on this tip. Swings on tour 40 years ago also had alot of tilt. And there was more incline on their shoulders then modern players. Arnold Palmer was a great example

    I’m excited to see this. Unfortunately we got snow last night and the season is over. I’ll have to try it out next season. Note to self, relocate to somewhere that has golf all year.

      Hi Jeremy,
      I was born in Rochester, NY and spent many years in PA before that "note to self" kicked it. Not missing that "S" word one bit!!
      Stay warm!

      @@perserverance333 Check out Turning Stone Resort & Casino. Located in Vernon, probably about an hour and a half from you but they have an AWESOME indoor golf dome with a driving range, short game area, and a huge superstore.
      I bought my set of Titleist irons there and also received 4 free rounds of golf on any one of their courses. Their courses are all PGA level and absolutely IMMACULATE and incredible to play on. Highly recommend even taking a weekend trip out there if you've never been. They also have lodging as well.

      If you do not mind living in a state that promotes decriminalization, illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, defunding the police, high crime statistics, etc., we play golf in California year round. Just make sure you are ready to defend yourself, family and property.
