    In this video, TEquipment staff thermographer Devin takes a close look at the big differences between the new FLIR C5 and the old FLIR C3 thermal cameras. Both are pocket-sized thermal cameras, but the C5 packs much higher IR resolution, better sensitivity, a wider temperature range, and new features like FLIR Ignite Cloud.
    The C5 packs 160 x 120 thermal imaging power in a rugged, pocket-sized package. It includes FLIR MSX technology for extra visual details, and will save you time on the job with 1-Touch Level/Span auto adjustment.
    The C5 also lets you upload images directly to the FLIR Ignite cloud so you can easily store, organize, and back-up images. You can then quickly add annotations, securely share findings, and even create professional reports.
    The C5 is a professional-grade tool, rated to IP54 against dust and water and tested to withstand a 2 meter (6.6ft) drop. It can easily fit in your pocket since it's smaller than a smartphone, and has a bright built-in LED flashlight.

    Apparently these have a battery issue where it completely dies as is not replaceable just outside of warranty. They also seem to brick for random reasons. I’ve recently bought one that I’m having to return and found these problems squirrelled away aren’t uncommon. What has been other peoples experience. Do you get many fault/complaints/returns?

    What's a good model to get for looking for moisture intrusion during a home inspection. I have my eye on the flir e8xt but am leaning towards the c5 as this will be my first thermal imaging camera. The price of the e8 is the most i'm willing to spend but doesn't bother me as long as it will withstand the test of time. However the lower price tag on the c5 is nice and seems to be way more ergonomic but it has a fixed battery. What would you recommend?

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  3 года назад +1

      As a professional user, you might find that the E8xt is easier to use daily. The gun-style form factor is often overlooked but it makes this camera much more comfortable to use for inspections than something like the C5. Also, the interchangeable batteries are great because you can hot-swap them during the workday for uninterrupted use. For these reasons, we would recommend the E8xt for your application. That said, the C5 would still be excellent in terms of resolution and features (both cameras have MSX, WiFi image transfer, and FLIR Tools reporting capability) but the above points we mentioned make the E8xt better for professionals. The E8xt also has a 10-year warranty on the thermal detector. You can check it out on our site here: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/E8xt/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/

      @@TEquipment Thanks for the reply! After considering your advice I am now leaning to the flir E6xt model. It is currently on sale for 1599. Do you think that would be a good compromise as far as image quality / resolution goes? Also, I noticed that the field of view is slightly higher on the c5 which I like, but would the difference be negligible when considering the better image quality on the e6xt? After all my research I'm truly torn between the two as this will be my first thermal camera purchase. Thanks again in advance!

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  3 года назад +1

      @@OgFurious1 The E6xt sounds like a perfect compromise for your needs - it sits right between the E8xt and C5 in terms of resolution and still has all the same features like MSX, WiFi image transfer, and FLIR Tools reporting. The E6xt will still give you very sharp IR images - at 240x180 resolution, that's plenty for the building inspection work you plan to do. As for field of view, it's true that the E6xt is a bit narrower than the C5, but the difference is not huge (about 8-10 degrees both vertical & horizontal). For building inspections, the E6xt field of view should be just right. This camera is designed for this type of work so that FOV should be well suited to taking images of moisture intrusion, missing insulation, etc. in a building.

    Sir do we have live streaming option available in Flir C5 model which is available earlier in Flir C2 and C3 model while connecting through usb cable and flir tools?

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  3 года назад

      There is no mention of this feature in the product materials, but I spoke with Devin and the C5 should be able to do non-radiometric video streaming to FLIR Tools via a USB connection.

      @@TEquipment sir i had checked while connecting through usb to my new flir c5 but there is no option of instrument which was earlier available in flir tools so if possible could you please check out while connecting your Flir c5 model with flir tools.
      And can you explain what is role of bluetooth in new flir c5?
      Thanks in advance!

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  3 года назад

      If you're not seeing an option for video streaming when connected to FLIR Tools then unfortunately, it's likely FLIR has removed that feature from the device. There is no mention of that feature in any of the product materials. As for Bluetooth, the addition of this feature makes it easier to connect the C5 to your phone and use the FLIR Tools app. Instead of just WiFi, you can now use Bluetooth to connect the camera to your phone - that means you can connect to your phone even without an internet connection so it's much more versatile. Once connected, you can transfer images to your phone via Bluetooth for reporting/processing in FLIR Tools.

      Thanks! We do have a comparison of the FLIR ONE Pro vs Seek Compact Pro. Both of these smartphone IR cameras have models available that are compatible with Android phones and both should have high enough resolution for use with circuit boards. • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  3 года назад

      Skip to 05:20 in this video to see MSX working on the C3 - it will be very obvious if MSX is on because you will see the visual details (edges of objects, text, etc.) in the thermal image very clearly. To turn MSX on or off, tap the camera screen to bring up the main menu - the second option from the left is "Image Mode" (skip to 05:45 to see the menu). Tap Image Mode to open the submenu where you will be able to select from all the camera's image modes - tap on Thermal MSX to activate MSX, or tap Thermal to turn if off.

    What would be the better option between the Flir One Pro and Flir c3-x? I am wanting something (under $500) to use to during my home inspections to find any water leaks, missing insulation, hot breakers, etc.

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  2 года назад +1

      Depends on which form factor you are most comfortable with. The C3-X is a bit nicer to use because it is a standalone camera with an excellent user interface and great ergonomics - but it is slightly lower resolution than One Pro and a bit more expensive. If you are OK with using your phone as your thermal camera then go with One Pro. Check them out on our site here:

    • @TEquipment

      No, you would need to buy the C5. FLIR doesn't have any type of trade-in/trade-up program for these units.
