- Finally, after weeks of doing other work I've been able to fit a new 4 tip sport silencer to my Ferrari 308. But is it going to give me the sound I'm looking for?
FULL INFLUENZO EPISODE LIST: • InfluEnzo - Ferrari 30... Авто/Мото
You can't imagine how thrilled many of us are for the EVOLUTION of your INFLUENZO. Your serialized presentation of all your challenges and detective work in understanding, solving, and fixing any issue that pushes you away from fully enjoying your Ferrari 308 GTS is now legendary. There are many who show semi-similar car repair digests, but not many who ooze your enthusiasm for these vintage cars and the soul-lifting experience of driving down a winding road while hearing and feeling its Roman Rumble. Thanks for all your hard work. You made the pandemic bearable.
~ cheers.
Thank you so much for the lovely comment, it really makes it worth while when I get this kind of feedback!!
@@Number27Most welcome.
The best part of your videos is that you are using your 308, I have seen Ferrari owners store their cars 95% of the time.
I definitely am!! What’s the point otherwise!!
@@Number27 couldn't agree with you more jack its a car that needs to be driven not sat in some storage place languishing . far to many buy theses fantastic bits of automotive art and stick em under cover only to be seen once in a full eclipse.Makes me very sad and angry
I used to be a tow truck driver ,,, most of my calls were from customers that had dead batteries, antifreeze leaking or eating the aluminum blocks and or hoses. Charge an arm and leg plus an eye and the car went back into the garage,,, not be driven until I got the call...sad but true...
I like the fact that you're going to get the exhaust fitted to sound how you want it ! And that you're recycling the other parts for others to use. Top man!
Iain Tyrrell, Ratarrossa and JayEmm! It's like my whole RUclips library in the same video! Fantastic stuff, can't wait! You just need a video with Harry Metcalfe for the full house!
Seriously. I was thinking, "Eh! I know that Channel. Ah, and that one!".
Ian Tyrell and Harry Metcalfe - more car knowledge and presence than any of the US offerings. Masters of their individual skills.
What you do in a small garage is remarkable. Well done.
"It's only slightly touching, so I think it will be OK".... I think you'll find that's not an adequate defence I'm afraid......😉😉
The exhaust place you mentioned is at Bicester Heritage, former RAF Bicester, fantastic place, they’ve built two exhausts for me, great video as always
just watched 1 - 12 of Influenzo and by god its some work that you have carried out WELL DONE
Fab, thanks for watching, glad you’ve enjoyed it!
Really enjoying your videos and the improvements being made to your Ferrari.
As you're working on the sound, keep in mind that a significant portion of the car's sound comes from the intakes. At higher revs the trumpets actually function much like organ pipes, and can contribute a bit of a "wail" to the sound. Car companies make efforts to control this sound due to the contribution to the car's noise. You might want to see if there are any baffles in the airbox or tubing leading up to it. You also might want to test it without the airbox or lid if you can do it while retaining the filters. I wouldn't be comfortable test driving without filters and airbox, but the choice is yours.
Have driven it without the Ari box top before.. night try it again!
If you want induction roar, buy a Moto Guzzi Le Mans ...
@@Number27 It will be louder but lose power. Leave it on there.
My impression is that the car does sound slightly better from the outside, than what you hear when you're driving it.
Yes I would agree!!
Personally I would recess a foglight into the gap in the valance and get rid of the one hanging from the bumper.
Take the caps off and have that European yellow tint look! 👌
be careful about rules regarding lights facing rearward.... if it is inoperable but looks good, you should be all clear.
Was looking forward to this! Frankly not disappointed! The 308s always sounded like a four cylinder and yours sounds pretty good. Love the content and keenly anticipating my T-shirt purchase!

Another great video. Honest appraisal of the car so far. Wish we had more regular updates. Best motor vid series on the net I’ve found so far.
That’s really kind. Thank you!!
Influenzo, Tyrell and Ratarrossa?! OMG let me get my popcorn! Just get that Tubi mate
Another great video! I remember driving at speed on the freeway in San Diego, Ca (in nothing special - late night - minimal traffic), and telling everyone in the car to be quiet because I heard the perfect sound of a Ferrari engine approaching and about to pass. We all had a moment of silence to listen to that orgasmic sound until he left us in the dust. This 308, sadly, is not there yet. I'm glad you are continuing your quest for that sound. Cheers!
Cheers buddy and glad you understand!!
Well done, it’s getting there. Iain Tyrell and Ratarossa, worlds apart but both excellent! If you’re reading this and haven’t seen either then you must watch !!
I absolutely love the knowledge that Iain Tyrell has.
Great watch as always
Fire safety stick is a brilliant device. I now have one in each of my classics. So much better than a traditional extinguisher
"I have a cunning plan" - Well those words never went well for someone we know hahahaha!
Long Live the Influenzo!
The one about carving his name on a bullet, and keep it in his pocket DID work out for him 😁
Another great video..... Keep up the good work!....👍😉
Tyrrel is a good choice for help, he sure convinced me he knows it all regarding these type of cars.
I think you need the QV valance with dual cutout for exhaust. Love the clicking sound of the gear shifter stalk.
The car is coming along nicely.
Thanks for the upload. They're such a great looking car. I would just move the auxiliary fog light over (or add another) to simply obscure the exhaust cut out in the rear valance. I'd keep the dual pipe look, as per the GTS and Ansa systems.
Hope you get your exhausted sorted out. I have a good feeling Jay Emm will love this car.
Relax and enjoy it now, it looks and sounds fantastic !
For my 76 GTB I built an exhaust using a 2 in 2 out Magnaflow muffler and 2 double Hedman pipe tips. Sounded absolutely amazing and look just right
Very Good News to see it back on the road.
Happy Trails from a Wet Trinidad.
Cheers Carlyle
How awesome, Trinidad 🇹🇹? Chuffed to have at least one viewer there. Beautiful place!
@@Number27 much Thanks for Sharing your Escapades.

Borla makes a perfect fit..... Sounds great!
3D print a plug for the hole and attach it from the back with a clamp and easy paint to match! Fun watching the videos.
Wow! A perfect storm of some of my favourite you tubers is brewing!
I think it sounds fine! Another nice video!!!
Thank you fella!!
I think that’s bedding in ! Better and better the more I watch ! sounds better loads better 👌
Love the honesty! 😉
I'm loving your vids mate. Decent honest bloke with an old Ferrari for lolz
Thanks Simon 🙏!!
Always enjoy your videos, the real world!! I like the way you are not just going to accept the sound the way it is and are keeping going until you have the result you want!! One thing to consider is the fact that you have a 2 valve per cyl engine and they always sound different at hight rpm than a 4 valve per cyl engine, add the induction noise from the carbs and you’re always going to have that throaty, offbeat sound. However, you need an X balanced arrangement to get that sound you’re after, so a single pipe will never be an option for you, plus 4 pipes looks way more cool!! Can’t wait to see your collaboration with Scott’s channel......nice episode and can’t wait for the next one!!
Thanks Kevin!!!
can’t wait for the new exhuast to be made. i made my own back box for my 944 turbo as i didn’t really like the sound of anything i heard and mine does sound exactly like i wanted it to. nice and suttle untill you hit the boost and higher raves then it sounds aggressive. i’m no expert at all i’m just like you , don’t care the cars worth £25,00 0 + it’s all about it’s our cars and they need to be enjoyed! this is what i love most about y and your videos, it’s GREAT!!!👍😉
wouldn't worry to much on filling it. looks pretty 👍
Difficult to judge really through the video but to me it sounds nice. Thanks again for sharing.
Nice to see the Influenzo drives so well now. Love the channel.
With that rear panel above the exhaust tips. Don't fibre glass over it when it's metal. Leave the single exhaust shape there as it goes deep over the left exhaust pipes. Just weld in a metal filler panel to make it smooth. Then you can always go back to original if you like.
With a Ferrari one shouldn't go for cheap fibre glass bondo fixes.
Great vid, love how you tell us everything. Its a shame it doesn’t sound as good as you expected but hopefully Ryan will do you proud. An exhaust can change a car so much but it’s so easy to under do it or over do it. Luckily I went with a Hayward and Scott system and it turned my V6 sounding Lexus ISF into a burbling V8. Look forward to your next upload!
Thanks mate!!
Nice little drive past the Rock Of Gibraltar and through Kirtlington.
The fire sticks were a lovely gift, they don't come cheap.
Suuuuuuuu--perb ! please keep these heart warming videos coming - i have to say they give me a feeling of pure joy [yes!! i AM serious - thank you Sir!!!!]
Wow thanks buddy!!
Just about to ‘dig in’ but just thought I’d say,I can’t bastard wait ! The ‘weekend’ starts here ! Cheers...
Fantastic Joel!! Enjoy
if you ask me...I think it sounds awesome! That pass you did at 6:43 was incredible.
Hi Jack glad you have been in contact with Ian Tyrell the exotic car whisper. Followed him since Harry Metcalf persuaded Ian to do his own channel. Im sure he will be a very valuable source of advice. And no doubt he will be able to seduce your highly strung mistress into behaving lol.As far as i can remember the 308 never did sound as good as other Ferraris but i could be wrong im getting old and going senile lol.Live the dream jack waht are you doing with pepe need more pug journeys such fond memories of when i had mine sigh!
I totally understand that its a personal preference thing, however I think the new exhaust (on video footage of course) sounds quite a lot better ! Thanks for all the vid's I'm enjoying them ;)
Thanks Tim!!
I like this, keep it up.
A-hah! Spotted you this afternoon on the apron at Bonhams outside Kidlington! That was very unexpected, lovely afternoon for a roof off/ down as mine was too! I was on the way to see my recently purchased 1974 Range Rover Classic having its newly rebuilt gearboxes re-installed. I've been following your progress as I love the 308s too. Great to see the bad 'cringeworthy' moments as well as the successes and buying that car at auction was certainly a result! Owning and improving any classic has its fraught times. Thanks for the education while we are being entertained. David from Bicester
Hey David, feel free to stop and say hello next time!
Another great video. I had a Tubi on my 348 years ago and sounded amazing but let's hope when you change it again you get the sound you want. Ratarrossa. Iain Tyrrell and Jayem doing a video of the car brilliant. Ratarrossa is pretty cool. If you have time when you visit Iain Tyrrell let me know cause I live down the road from his place in Broughton and I'll pop down in my Mrs Cayman
I kind of like it, tbh. I also love the look of the Ansa style tips.
My wife has an Abarth 595 Competizione (cabriolet)! It has the factory option Monza exhaust, it sounds great and it’s getting better with age. People look up when she drives past expecting a larger car... it pops and bangs.. superb!!
The 308 is getting there, keep it up.
The Record Monza does sound fantastic and is the best exhaust for the 595. The sound of yours might be improving because the valves seize in the open position after a while.
Thank you Karl! Have a great weekend buddy!
Blocco A Spirale I think you are correct. The sound has got more pronounced, a mechanic told me the valves had seized... I left them👍🏼
I had the option to have it remapped but I didn’t think my wife needed 180 bhp to go to work!!! 🤪🤪
Sounds really good, especially at drive by 6:04
I recommend pulling the valence off, sorting out the custom exhaust, both in terms of getting to sound the way you want and looking the way you want. Then fab the lower valence around your exhaust tips.
It sounds amazing take it in to town you'll hear the the difference 🙂
You need a Capristo system or something. Cant drive around with that thing ...lol. Thanks for sharing! Great channel!
Ha, thanks JB!!
Hoovies garage has one with a capristo. Sounds briljant
I'm with you. Its gotta look right and its gotta sound right and it still doesnt sound great from inside the car although it sounds better on a drive-by. Great vids - buying a cheap 308 is what many of us will have fantasised about. Keep going because you're going to end up with a great car that you will know intimately.
Thank you buddy, glad you can see my point of view and thanks for watching!
Exhaust sounds good, Magnum Pi gives his thumbs up, Robin Mastrers and higgens love it too! LOL!
Right, sir you have done a knock out job so far. On the valance follow suite and either replace the whole piece or have a curved semi circle welded in then paint the valance. It's more time, work and resources but it's a Ferrari. It's a nice investment. Love the show mate. Keep up the great content.
At 6:42 that sounds nice! Good to see you out in the 205 too 👍
Love the videos, really looking forward to collaboration with Scott, ask him about that white 512bb for me! 😉
How about a bit of shaped alluminium 7'' or 8'' inches long on both sides of car to cover exhaust gap, or something reflective
Great video, I am looking forward to the collaborations, I think you are making the right choice by changing the exhaust, the new one is ok ish, but you have a fantastic Ferrari that should be heard, all IMHO opinion of course.
Thanks Rhett!! Enjoy your Sunday buddy!
I like the sound, not too much and does sound a little more open.
good to know you and JayEmm are getting together...
It sounds awesome.....
Have you thought about your inlet filters? Maybe some modifications will improve the engine note as well .
Love the channel thanks for sharing your adventures!
Have to be honest with you - it sounds really nice 👍!! Awesome machine
Sounds mint to me!!
I had exactly the same problem, it was a Ferrari 3.2litre V8 , but with the standard exhaust, it didn't sound like one ! I had one made from stainless steel, fraction of the price and sounds amazing now, as it should
Jack it doesn't sound that bad mate but hey, the customer is always right!! Looking forward to the next video 👍👍
Ooh heck that car sounds damn good..
I think it sounds great
Maybe you also need some more induction noise from the carbs assuming there is room for better filter tops.
Agree. Great induction noise should be the goal. After all the engine is behind your head. I’ve had 70s fiat twin cams with better induction noise and it makes all the difference to enjoy the engine.
@@buncho888 Strada 130TC Abarth with a pair of ITG filters, best noise I've ever had in any of my cars
I've been following your 308 with interest. I've been on a similar journey since early last year. Always something to fix ... but that's any old car it's just a little harder on a mid-engined Italian ride. I'm running a magnaflow muffler. Its got the low down rumble and the high end bark you are after. Only difference is that mine is on a QV. But just be aware the bark can get a little tedious on long drives! As for the exhaust cut out, I'd make a piece out of fibreglass and attach it with screws from behind.
Thanks Brock! Apparently QV sounds a bit different anyhow. I’ll try one soon!
Cracking video again
It sounds far better than the one Petrelicious had on their channel this week
Ian Tyrells is local to me cracking place
I've watched all your videos and even I would think owning a Ferrari would be a lot of fun, but I went with a C5 ZO6 and though I've had plenty of fast cars I can't imagine many Ferraris out running this thing. My first Corvette was a tricked out split-window and this thing is twice as much fun and each and every day someone will compliment me on my car. I have tricked out the stance and the handling performance and it's got a little bit more than 405 HP to the wheels and I have to admit, it just looks fast!
Love Corvettes too!!
Nothing holds back your enjoyment/bonding with a vehicle than an underwhelming exhaust note. Had that with a Porsche 996 once until I found a small hack to weld in a small bypass (gundo hack). I think your on the right track with Ryan.
Thanks buddy!!
I had an exhaust built for a R56 MINI COOPER S cost about 70 quid more than an off the shelf sport/race cat set up. free flowing no dustbin lid exit pipe an able to go back to fine tune volume and sound to my taste . Way to go👍
Cheers chap.. I agree!
Can you please put the steering wheel on straight. It’s driving my ocd off the chart.
.....not only that, clean the brake dust off the front wheels. Enjoying the vids tho!
On my list!! I can’t do it though, wheel is on a central spline and can’t be adjusted. It needs to be done at the wheels when alignment is sorted.
1. It's fantastic to see/hear you putting the car through it's paces! It shows you like to drive it and it likes to be driven.
2. How about a couple of shims where the exhaust bolts to the undercarriage? That should angle it down slightly.
Tried shims.. the angle is the issue. New pipe should sort it out!
Also in the meantime, you can add two spacers or washers to the two mounting brackets to lower the exhaust tips away from the valance.
The link pipes stop it moving forget down.. but the new one should make it easier
I would cut the the valance to cleanly fit around the exhaust with about 3/8” (10mm) clearance to avoid burning it. Or if you want to keep original parts for a potential resell of the car try to source another rear valance and cut that one. Another, out there option, is the make a mold of the original and cast a new from that to fit around the pipes. I recently did that on a RS6 that had the pipes just shy of touching after fitting a custom exhaust - straight-pipes with 3” (7.6cm) pipes.
Nah that exhaust sounds real good
Stainless steel usually sounds less meaty and more tinny at higher rpms, it's really not about sound but about long term durability. Frankly, mild steel usually sounds better. You might consider saving for the Tubi, it really is a transformation on the 308. The creme de la creme is the Capistro, but it costs so much.......
I could have bough the Tubi but I was not sure about it fitting under the valance!
Its great that you are in touch with Ratarossa as he is doing up a vintage 911 in red like the one of Philip Raby's you drove but Needs serious work has issues etc....You being a porsche guy your expert knowledge would be great help to Scott ans his expert Ferrarri knowledge would be great for you...i recon you could do some great vids on the cars looking forward to them :-)
Well, I think she looks and sounds awesome.
Is there a way to incorporate the added on fog light into the rear lights properly on this model. I have seen it done on some Japanese imported cars before.
Excellent segments.. I look forward to every installment. Very Real..
With regards to filling in the rear exhaust cut out.
Perhaps give some thought to 0.5mm gal sheet fabricated to cover the cut out plus a bit either side and bend it 70 degrees ish to create a 20mm return underneath to glue or screw to the underside.. paint or carbon fibre wrap prior to installation.
Think about doing two to keep the rear symmetrical. An easy non permanent DIY option.
Just a thought
Thanks Drew!!
How about a heat shield to cover the exhaust exit, would need to match up on the other side too, but it could also protect the paint from scorching or discolouration.
Sounds a lot better but no scream. You'll get there, and at least we get more videos. Thanks
Sounds good to me mate!
You could make a heat shield to go over the cut out and have a matching one one the other side so so it doesn't look out of place and serves another purpose.
Good idea..
I was watching ratarossa recent video on his 308 and he was in the process of fitting a new exhaust and that had some amazing race headers. You may want to check out the sound of his car as I think the headers could be the answer for you.
You need to hear a rasp at low revs a shreek at high revs followed by a few pops .its there or not . Well done for going for dream ..👍👍
Cheers Kevin!!
👌
It sounds very nice
Thank you Tracy, enjoy your weekend!
What does it sound like with the air filter off. Maybe it would sound nice with some short trumpets and air filter socks
