UND graduate here currently working at Envoy, don’t give up it will be a challenging journey but if you’re passionate It will be worth it. 🎉
should u go to university first to become a pilot or just go straight to flight school?
UND in North Dakota or UND in Arizona? I'm a current student at the Mesa campus with CGCC.
@@techno5894im probably the same age as u im a junior do not go to a flight school directly bc in a few years when the shortage ends majors are gonna want degrees
@@techno5894It really depends and will vary on person to person, but if you want to become a major airline pilot and have a competitive edge over other people I would recommend going to an aviation college.
@@ericmcgovern1764North Dakota 😅
I’ve been at AA for 10 years and upgraded 2 years ago. I was at Eagle (Envy) for almost 17 years and was a Captain for 15 of those.
Were you at Envoy that long by choice, became a trainer, or lack of promotional opportunities?

I remember the discovery flight so vividly. December 30th I went on a flight, Jan 10th I took my first lesson. Just about to finish my PPL. Trying to schedule the check ride for September!
You guys in the US are so lucky, you have a pathway and opportunities. I’ve been qualified as a pilot for over 10yrs and I can’t get a job
I want to be a pilot. I am from Colombia. I live in the United States and I am already in grade 12. Your videos help me. my English is not the best. Thank you
Go to the Latino Pilot’s association online and purchase a membership and request a mentor. They USA based and the mentor will be someone who is already in the airlines who can guide you. Best of luck!!!
Get all the ratings here and then go to Colombia. I’ve heard you can get in an airline with as little as 250 hours. Don’t worry too much about the language.
I watch few pilot bloggers but your my favorite one
Just went on a trip flew AA round trip. Flying each time makes me want to be a pilot so quick. I'm finally taking a discovery flight this month!
I really enjoyed your vlog❤ I'm afraid of heights but I love hearing about aviation.
Amazing content!! Thank you so much!!
Hello Garrett Can you please make a more detailed video with what supplies you need to bring to do this work, we are talking about health, the logical and practical part, and especially the necessary documents, thank you, I love your work
Coming from a different Garrett, but this video has some more details of what you’re asking for ruclips.net/video/6h3dkTF7whw/видео.htmlsi=4DNymLzR5GNYccSa
For me Pilot is the best ever job..❤❤❤
QUESTION: How have you heard of airlines working with a recently trained pilot who really doesn't want to be home-based in a criminal dangerous city(LA, Chicago) that they will not live in?
I just finished my CFI last month, I'm so ready to not have to pay for most of my hours now 😂
Thanks Garret for a lovely video and helpful information. Could you make a video about being a corporate and private jet pilot or how to get to that part of aviation please?! All the best.
❤❤❤ I love you CPT Garrett ray ❤️ God bless you 🙏🙏
I really want to be a pilot when I’m older so this video is amazing thank you! If anyone has any other suggestions about when to start training and other stuff please let me know. I’m wondering if I should start after college or during college right out of high school, or anything else.
I'd recommend at least getting your Private Pilot's Certificate through a local Part 61 flight school in high school. It's cheaper, more flexible so you can build a solid foundation for the basics of flying, and it'll let you get a feel for whether you actually enjoy flying or not.
@@anthonyhui9891 Thanks I appreciate it!
I love your videos your an intelligent good looking man with a fun job keep up your hardwork !

Fascinating. Thank you!
My favorite pilot Garrett rey 😘
I live in jersey city and I went around the other week with a self made word document I printed with a ton of questions I got from other RUclipsrs and went to morristown and Caldwell airport to interview flight schools. I'm still not sure which school to go to but all I know that its hard to pay for all of this. I definitely have to go the loan option.
Nice and cool informations

what is the best advice you can give to someone trying to become a pilot
Thanks

Love your videos!!
Recommendations for iPads, for flight training?
@flywithgarrett where do you buy your pilots shirts? Can you share the name of the store or link?
Hello Garrettku is name Dagmare Czech republic love you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice video, how long did your journey from start to now take you?
Am proud of you
Nice video!
Hey Garret i noticed u have a tatoo right under arm and immediately wanted to knw what the catch really is about pilots and tatoos cause i would love to get one but its not worth loosing my career b4 it even starts.im a student pilot by the way still working on my exams haven't started flying yet 😊😊
Hey Garrett, older age student pilot here. What are your thoughts on a two or three way partnership on a small single engine to build flight hours?
I am 14 and dreams of flying. I have took 7 demo flights so far and my instructors say to start a program at around 15. Does anyone think I should wait a little bit longer or is that the right age to start?
i think its the right time to start so u can be a pilot in very young age it will be a great achievement !
Hello Garrett,
I've been your regular viewer for a while now. Love what you do. I wanted to ask why you chose American Airlines if you don’t mind sharing. Of course it’s one of the major airlines but I wanted to know your reason for choosing AA over some other airlines in the USA like Delta.
So...What school/program does the things you outlined?
love you 🥰
Whats up garrett, I start my flight training on the 15th of this month and am planning to finance most of the cost of my flight training. How early do you think a student pilot should apply for loans before they need them, and is there any way to get discounted flight training for the first few certificates (private, instrument, commercial). I know you tallked about signing a contract with your flight school to get your CFI certificate for free and wanted to know if its possible to do it for the other certificates.
IMO, apply right away.
If you dont get approved is that a deal-breaker?---Worth knowing. Apply to big 3...Sallie Mae, Meritage, and ??(cant remember)...or credit card it.
Anyway, banks are tightening lending, so may slowly trickle into unsecured loans like flight training.
🎉Garret I will always love you... No matter how candle is melting in a seconds... 😊😮
After a long time I saw you in your uniform ❤. Take care of your health .stay blessed always 😊
How do you take ur multi engine commercial first?
I want to be a pilot I would like to know the steps to learn how to fly a plane
Quick question, the “Academy of Aviation” in Atlanta Georgia, do you think it’s a good flight school? I’ve looked into it. But I’m still not sure. Idk what to look for
Do you need a bachelors to fly major airlines
Thank you. IMPORTANT question. How do you pay for flight school. For context i'm 16 and just graduated high school. I wanna become a pilot. BUT idk how to pay or what steps to take?
QUESTION: Do airlines compensate extra for home bases in high tax cities/states? My understanding is some cities tax income as well as California & NY tax income the most; while state like Texas/Florida doesn't tax income at all.
QUESTION: Are you reimbursed for parking at your base? (I can see it becoming a small fortune on 2-3day trips)
Depends on your base. Almost all bases have employee parking. Some of those are free and some of those come with monthly fees to use the lot. But yes there is employee parking
Wow
❤❤❤❤❤hi cpt how are you handsome pilot Garrett 🤩
Working on my CFII right now but market for flight instructors is getting full i see now 😢
Wow 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻❤️
Handsome SOB!
Garrett, have you considered letting your beard grow?
My problem is the cost you got to be making a fortune in 2024 already just to get into it i got to pay every hour of training in the air for a minimum of 40 hours of fly time that adds up to quick for me and is currently the only thing in my way
@flywithgarrett just imagine where we would be if grandpa didnt become a pilot.
I was wondering if it is possible to go straight to the Major Airlines after your Pilot training and if so how it would be possible to go straight there?
Hi Jaan
One you are a FO on a narrow body, do pilots tend to move up a size to wide bodies or try to become captain first?
@@fl.sal.27 Good question. Depends on what you want. I decided to upgrade on the narrow body but I could have gone right seat wide body.
Do you think college or accelerated programs or better?
QUESTION: Is it practical, or kinda impractical, to commute/crash pad to a home base in another state?---I imagine OnCall would still incur expense of a crash-pad even if you dont work
People do it but it drastically reduces your quality of life. Always live in base if you can
Is it hard to get the money to go to a flight school like ATP?, I'm 17 currently and don't really have such a great amount of money (i heard the loan is very close to the 100k at ATP)
👀 ❤😊 wow 1hour ago
Question: So I’ve already done the discovery flight and my flight training and now I have to do the medical certificate and I have one good eye with 20/20 vision and my other eye is blurry (not blind) can I still be a commercial pilot?
If you can see 20/20 with your glasses you should be able to pass that part of the medical exam
@@friedchickenlover7291 I don’t even wear glasses lol
@@Plxnes777 You might need to get some then. You'll need to be able to pass the eye test and if you can't see without glasses you won't pass.
@@CySaxet No I can see without glasses but I was wondering if I still needed them?
Contact an airline recruiter and ask if they will have any issue. I suspect insurance may come into play.
Hey Garrett! are you looking for a video editor? let me know, I can help.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
whats up with garrett he low key looks depressed
I get this however. It’s like driving an Amazon truck to build drive time to drive Big rig. Makes no sense

Forgot to mention you need a small loan of a million dollars for your training, or else you'll never even get your PPL.
Gi bill
@@iLLuminatedWithDren
I thought you can’t use the GI bill for the ppl
I know you’re exaggerating, but it doesn’t have to cost a lot. There are loads of scholarships out there. Plus you don’t have to go to the name brand flight school *cough cough ATP* for 120k. You can do all your training at a part 61 school for less than 65k. Just gotta do some research and put in the effort to get some scholarships/take a loan out. Hope this helps.
@@Its_Lew Yes can partially...Part 141 school...ask VA
Simply isn’t true shouldn’t cost more then 200 grand ever and that’s even expensive
I’m not interested Garrett I’m sorry
