Re: College - I've heard plenty of pilots say you should get the 4 year degree in something that isn't flying. The airlines don't care what your degree is in, so get a degree that will give you a backup plan if flying doesn't work out. There are a lot of things that can derail a pilot career even if you love it, from recessions to medicals to technological changes.
It’s a good idea. I still recommend that route.
Good to have, but Delta just dropped requirement and others most likely will as well.
I thought about doing that but did one semester as a business marketing major and couldn't stand it. Signed up for my college's part 141 flight school the next semester lol
I’m certified in CDL-A and have driven over the road all across every state in the USA for over a year with a contract done by Prime Inc. I loved it! Definitely have a $130K a year career in a drop of a hat. Do not discount the CDL-A route, instant jobs and good money. No degrees needed.
@@reaperboy36 do you own your own truck or did you get hired by a company after acquiring the license? I have no idea about this field but I know there’s money and I really love driving so I’m interested and any little bit of insight would help 👍🏼
Awesome video! I recently got my Instrument Rating and it feels like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I love videos like this, they really get you motivated to keep on the grind. Up next Commercial 🙂
Awesome video Garret! Thank you for answering my question. I’m enjoying flight school even when it gets tough. Hope one day I can be in your shoes💯
One of the best videos I ever watched on RUclips great job. Good luck with AA you will have a awesome career.
Found your videos and I’m getting out the Space Force to pursue commercial pilot as career so your answers to questions helps tremendously. Thanks!
This is a great video Garret. This will help a lot of future pilots.
You’re awesome! Great perspective on life. Inspirational
Hey Garrett, you answered two of my questions from Instagram. Thank you for making these videos they are really helpful.
You are my favorite content creator. You helped me realize that I want to do something different with my life. I want to fly and I honestly never knew that before. I didn't come from an aviation family so I was never around it. So it took me a long time to find this. It wasnt until I came to Florida around all the flight schools here that I even realized that flying was so huge. I came from a small northern town where things like this weren't even talked about. So being on your channel really helped me to know how far I could go with aviation.
Awesome as always, thanks Garret.
Love your video. I have made the decision to pursue being an airline pilot, and I will continue to watch your videos.
Among the best Q&A's I have ever watched. Always ahead in this game of life. If I retired at 42, anyone can.
Always a pleasure to hear your thoughts! For your next Q&A vid I was wondering if you could answer how you are able to hang out with friends and stay social when you have such a different schedule? Thanks!
Hello Garrett👋🏻Great video you inspired a lot of people especially avaition. Be safe always❤🤗.
THANK YOU! Just moved to Daytona Beach, about to start my aviation classes. Now getting my FAA medical exam. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow.
Hiii if you ever read this I just want to say that you bring SOOO much positivity in my life, like whenever I watch any of your videos I just have this flow of happiness and that feeling that everything is achievable. Thanks sooo much and keep posting videos! ☺️
Congratulations on the major airline brother !
Thank you we appreciate your info and inspiration.
Nonreving is a blessing and a curse. My mom works for AA and I’ve been nonreving my entire life❤️ love your vids Garrett!
How cool that you went to Embry Riddle. I owned a home in Prescott but now live in the Phoenix suburb. Flying is amazing out here. Always clear and sunny.
About to get my CFI and honestly I’ve been struggling mentally lately with burn out and wanting to get to the end goal of the airlines. Appreciate the motivating words to stay the course and keep the eyes on the prize. Really helpful!!
U r not alone. We all went through. Just hang in there and don't give up. U will get through.
We have all been there, just try to enjoy the ride. When you get to your dream job you will look back and it will feel like you did your first solo a year ago.
@@flyboy6753 appreciate that!
Man I’m in flight school and I need help:(
Remember the scene from Top Gun, ... 💭
Every good pilot does ☺️
Remember the scene from Top Gun where "Maverick" decides to quit flying and is sitting at the bar, ...
Or where he's sitting at the air field on the back his Kawasaki Ninja bike watching the air field lights (rabbit)
That's the other thing as I began this comment every pilot has done both of these watched the movie Top Gun too many times to count as well as considered walking away from this.
When that happens, go back to where it started for you, for me it was just as the character in that movie at the airport watching airplanes.
Blessing and Good luck with the CFI, CAVU and tailwinds.
Such a great video! Thank you for sharing ❤😊
Do more videos of life of a pilot or more over nights I love seeing how you go about your day
Thank you garret !!
Thank You So Muchhh... From the core of my heart
Hello Garret Thank you for this info greatly appreciated😊
You're my forever inspiration ☺️❤️
Fantastic video as usual Garret! You are a huge inspiration to me. Being an airline pilot has been my goal for a while now and I’m almost done with my instrument rating. Thank you so much for the value of your RUclips content!
is it hard? i’m trynna get into that
@@eastonowen6458 Yes the instrument rating is fairly difficult. But, if you really want it you have to be willing to put in the work. Lots of studying. It’s well worth it.
@@eastonowen6458 Yes its hard. Learning to fly is the easiest part of learning to fly. Your ass is gonna study boiiii.
You are my inspiration!
I lived the non-rev life between ages 6-15 because my dad worked for PSA/USAirways. Memories of flying in the old school 727-200, BAE-146, L-1011, DC-9, MD-80's & 90's...
Thank you for your sharing you are my inspiration god protect you all the time 🙏
Cool video! First view of your channel. Thanks!
Keep your eye on the prize that is absolutely correct!!🔥🔥🔥🔥 . Remember you never win the race when you quit.
Commercial check ride in three weeks then on to cfi. I’m so excited to be going through the ratings, it really is the best although I can’t wait to get to the airlines I’m enjoying the time.
Lots of Embry Riddle guys in the Navy & AF. It's weird that the 3 I know and worked with all decided NOT to go the Airline's route after getting out of the Navy and just remained flying in Reserves in our adversary squadrons (F-5's/ Legacy F/A-18's/ F-16's)
I would love to see a video guest starring you uncle to show/tell the differences between airlines and other pilot jobs. Or if you could get in contact with your uncle and get more details into the job in general. A nice comparison video

I'm really enjoying your channel
Thanks so much for inspiring and informing me about it...dear Garrett...🤩🤩💞
I commend you and send you major cool points for doing this for the value.
Thanks for answering my question about bella! Your RUclips channel has helped me realize that becoming a pilot is what I want to do for my career. I took my discovery flight yesterday and am going to start working towards my PPL asap
How was the discovery flight? Was about to do it then i broke my collarbone🤣 Im gonna do it when im fully recovered cant wait
@@bencorcoran7563 it was the most amazing experience of my life
@@isaiahvigil9587 damn. Definitely gonna do it as soon as possible
Just wanted to say, thank you for inspiring & informing us about the aviation industry. I joined an accelerated flight program last November and I got my PPL last month. Your videos helped me take that hard first step into the aviation world and I have no regrets. You’re a huge inspiration! Thank you
Awesome 💯💪 I just joined started last week from NYC 💯

You da man!
Really helpful thanks
Great video! A few questions:
Can you do an update on what flight school you would recommend in 2022 for becoming an airline pilot quickly?
What regional did you work for? (Like envoy or skywest)
Piedmont
Your question is very broad. It all depends on what YOU are looking for…
I can’t wait to run into you in one of these trips we are brunch to cross paths at least once.
Garret
Felicity Ace sunk Tue March 1 9:00 am local time as it was being towed
Great job awesome video
Excellent video Amazing video
What’s your dream plane? And yay an appearance from Bella 😍😍
You are an inspiration. I love that you are so frank and honest about sharing your personal experience.
I am turning 50, and I am switching career. After being a pediatrician for 24 years, I signed up for ATP and getting my Class I physical this month. My grandfather was a pilot in the first Chinese nasal Air Force, and both of my uncles were fighter jet pilots. I am pursuing my second dream and my destiny.
Congragulations, I am a 50 year old civil engineer an am planning on starting flight school next year. Always wanted to be a pilot and now I feel financially secure enough to take the chance.
I'm sorry but I was doubting whether I should dedicate myself to ATP license but im only 34 and I already have a PPL. Getting you ratings won't be an issue but honestly even with a pilot shortage I really think its gonna be a tough one actually turning this into a career so late into the game my friend. Pilots get paid garbage for a while till they move up the majors and airlines. I honestly think your best bet is to make flying a hobby and don't spend the money on 141 school, instead buy a 152 for 40 grand instead and fly at your leisure while you work. A pilot wont make Pediatrician pay for at least a decade lol. Best part about doing it with your plane is you can sell the plane right back when your done and your gonna learn so much more about the mechanics and ownership of the plane. Also you can rack those 1500 hours up flying around with friends and family or doing whatever you want, instead of teaching.
@@CrossWindsPat Would u say the same for a 20 y/o?
@@edgars6081 No of course not lol. That is 30 more years of career building time.
You can use the scene like my dad some of his questions because I also asking a lot about the similar questions about flying pilot
Team Garrett. Just passed my instrument written today. All I got to say to you is your lady is missing out. You deserve better I know how much work you've put in to get to where you are and there's millions of women that would be blessed to have you. Do you brother. I'll stay loyal 🤙
Es cierto q está casado?
Wow great garrett love it☆☆
Can you do a video showing the best step by step process to becoming a pilot?
Gareth thank you pilot !
Love your beautiful dog!
Love the video! Quick question, do the airlines allow tattoos on places that are not visible? (Like back)
You are living my dream Garrett, this is what I always wanted to do, but was always such a elusive goal to attain. Didn't have the money or support from family so it didn't work out, I guess God favors other people. I'm 49 now so that ship has definitely left.
My name is also Garrett and I gotta say we're pretty damn similar. Do everything you'll ever wanna do bro
Only 11 days off a month - LOL! I'm leaving the USPS to fly, have been getting one day off a week for the last two years. Have my PPL and working on my instrument. Thanks for the video!
I feel you. I've only had 1 day off a week for 5+ years with my company.
How many days did you get to see your house and family? Probably every day? With 11 days off, after commuting he might only go home 7 or 8 days.
I’ve worked nonstop for the last year as a coast to coast truck driver. Only taken a few days off in between then to attend jury duty and take care of medical appointments. Going to be nice change! I have 39 hours in a C172S.
Def do a video on dating being a pilot or dating in the industry
Hey Garrett! Question for your next Q&A! Can you talk more about tattoos and joining airlines? Does it really hurt your chances even if it’s easily hidden (half sleeve for example)? I want tats but am afraid of closing doors.
Also if they had two equal candidates, but one had tats, would the other candidate be more likely to be selected? Thanks!
You should do more videos Garrett
What’s your opinion on flying for the military reserve/guard part time and airline part time?
I really like your dog ❤️❤️ would like to see it on sometime here.
Thank for your video was i love you work make video very interesting
Im 28, and I have my first introductory flight lesson on 9/4/2002. I’m excited
nice man
from someone who has studied finance and has a bachelors and a masters in finance-- mutual fund performance does not persist meaning in long run it wont beat the market... there are many scientific paper on this... fees will kill you in the long run (front loaded fees, back loaded fees, and expense ratios).. final tip invest in a market index with a low expense ratio find lowest one since its just a passive strategy... ex VTWO, SPY, VTI
Speaking this into existence, Imma be an airline pilot one day
What do you think about the Delta Propel & the United Aviate programs?
Why did you have such extremely neat perfect handwriting in my dream? The dream showed me you writting & that your handwriting looked like a calligraphy print from a stencil.....
I have a day job now but wanting to either do real estate investing or become an airline pilot. Thoughts that would influence my decision at this fork in the road?
U r the best model n pilot as well i hv ever seen💞💞💞
What are some good flight schools around the Charlotte area? Just subscribed to your channel and I love your videos! I'm 31 and have a 4 year degree. I also live in Charlotte and I'm sick of my 8-5 recruiting job and want to eventually get to the airlines but have 0 flight time. I've looked at ATP in Concord, Academy of Aviation in Gastonia and I've heard there's one in Monroe. I've also looked in the the American Airlines cadet program but I'd love to know if you have any advice. The only thing I do have is my FAA 1st class medical. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
Did you start your training? Good luck!
favorite pilot EVER ofc after sully
Flyingwithgarrett. Thanks for making this video. Im will go to a local school and ask a CFI here in chicago. Im 29 and have been spending much time changing my career path from automotive to aviation. I have my Bachelors degree in Biology. (clearly not related) but what would be the best steps to move forward to getting started from your perspective? Ive briefly considered the new UNITED Aviate program as well. Assuming the costs are well above 100k no matter what direction i do.
I am similar to you. I am curious how your course is going?
Trying to decide between an accelerated program or Part 141 to get the lower required hours. I currently have a Bachelors of Aeronautics degree from ERAU. What’s your thoughts between going back to school for a second degree or paying the cost for a school like ATP. I’d like to get my ratings as quick as possible, but can use a GI Bill for a 141. If I’m trying to go to the airlines, is it better to get done faster or cheaper? Currently 36, so Age is getting up there.
Hello Garret.
First of all, your stream is very useful. I m wonder, did you work any consulat firm for your interview or resume. What do you think about them?is it worth?Which one is good?Emerald coast ,Cage or other firm?
Great video. Where did you get that AA 737 model?
Thank you Garrett for all your guidance. But my question is i am about to retire from the army in a few years. But is the best way to get my flight career started while im still in the army go to community college or try a flight school
we love the long videos!!!!!!!!!! sorry, I'm on that ghost drink!!!!!!! lol
Oh my what a handsome pilot 👨✈️😍😍
I'm 14 and I would love to become a pilot.
I'm studying Phisics and Math alot to reach my dram
I hope so
Thanks for giving us such good information🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Just curious how often do you have to wear your uniform in public for example when deadheading or on call and have you ever forgotten to pack regular clothes and had to spend the trip in your uniform
I love z painting behind u, is it remind u with z plane runway !!,. Abird inspired me and i dreamed 2 be a cabin crew
Two questions number one do you get a choose or have any say in what aircraft to fly when you get to the airlines? And I guess a follow up question to that as you gain more seniority do you get to choose more? Second question do you have any say in what your homebase is?
Hi ! Garrett !
gotta go back streaming budd ! wanna go back on stream with ya haha
You do not pilot a 737 or any other commercial aircraft. You taxi, communicate with ATC and manage systems. These are important tasks. Soon software will replace you in these areas too. This is why people no longer die on commercial aircraft in the US and many other countries. I was part of the team at Honeywell that replaced the flight engineer in the late 80's and early 90's. Personally I prefer a human at the controls, however computers are safer.
Please fix your inspire sign. It’s not even. Makes my ocd go nuts lol. Love the videos. Flight attendant here btw
I would like to know how often the aircraft get maintenance . Do they check the airplane before taking off the mechanics ??
Aircraft mechanic here. Yes we check the aircraft (pre flight departure walk around) before the flight AND after the flight (post flight). Also we have daily, weekly, and bi-weekly checks.
What subject on each License and rating stamped you?? I’m currently doing my instrument :)
What do you think about the recent pay increases at Piedmont/Envoy/PSA?
I’ve wanted to fly for so long being a navy veteran and around planes most of my life. But I can’t find anywhere that will take VA benefits to get any of this done from start to finish without finding 3rd party loans.

Hi garett bro one one question
Are you can join do airbus a380 flight
You should start streaming again
What is the best airline to fly with? I’m flying from Ohio to Costa Rica
WOW.❤
If you have ever taken accutane or a drug that has side effects similar, can you make a video on your standpoint on taking it or not? I’m a student pilot and want to take it but don’t want to lose my wings
Don't take accurate.my young daughter took that for acne when she was a teenager. She was diagnosed with cancer. She died of colon cancer very young. She was a great non rev. She was stage 4 and was doing the butterfly in ocean in Kona. Be careful!
