Last two Canada Air crj jets I flew with I found interior fuselage damage one a tear by floor side panels and the other seemed tempered with top seal and forced top edges panels off next to window panels both times I made cip aware of them
The signing bonuses and increased pay is nice with the pilot shortage, but scheduling is a pain in the butt with making you work extra legs that you weren't anticipating
Increasingly Regionls are flying most of the secondary medium, city routes where as the hub to spoke seem to have greatly diminished. My nephew is coming up to Atlantic Canada for a week in August. Air Canada Jazz regional equipment ALL segments from DFW.
I know your a Captain. If you get the new job will you go over as a Captain or as a First Officer. Also would you start off on smaller jets ( bigger than regional jets of course) and work your way up to the jets like the 777?
Guy I flew with says his worst days at the major he flies for are still better than his best days at the regional he flew for. Pretty much sums up the difference between the two.
Garrett, this is awesome news about your upcoming interview. You're going to nail it, just make sure you walk in with your right foot!.. You got his buddy!!
I'm a captain at PSA. Coming up on 3 years in Sept and about to throw my apps into several majors. We have a flow through program as well but at 10 pilots per month it has become pretty much irrelevant to anyone hired after 2017. Good luck to you brother.
@@AlexS-mt5ph Nope. Now at 4 years with over 600 hours TPIC. No calls. Im assuming its cause of a couple things on record. Minor things I was told wouldn't matter.
It’s quite different in Canada. With two the main airlines being WestJet and Air Canada, and frankly the only ones with a name for themselves. WestJet has Encore and Link, the former being the larger regional and being operated by WestJet, and latter being a lot smaller and operated by Pacific Coastal. Air Canada has Express and Jazz, and I’m not certain on their CRJs, but their ERJ first generation are operated by Sky Regional with their 2nd generation E190s being operated by Air Canada itself. Which is why I bring it up, the qualification are for the most part the same since you are working for a large airliner, just in a smaller plane with lower type ratings. Whereas in the US, the airlines that have regionals are always branded as so, but are operated by the likes of PSA, Wisconsin, Mesa, Compass, Skywest, so on and so on...
Can you go from a smaller regional jet ERJ145 into a wide body plane like Airbus A350 Boeing 777etc. once you have transitioned from regionals to majors?
Thanks for this great info, as a tip for future videos it would be great to add some animations, photos, grafic tables etc, after a few minutes of seeing any vloger talking and talking and talking it can get a bit boring, waiting for the news on the new job, keep it up !!!!
I live near toledo airport!! It's crazy to think you were that close to me and I never knew it. your videos are very informative and inspirational. Keep up the good work!
Great video as always. Your videos helped me make the decision to become a pilot and join ATP, so thank you. I have been doing a few videos for beginner pilots just from my experiences, but more videos focused on new pilots and direction are always helpful from someone who has been there.
When you say the regionals don’t have the latest and greatest, do the at least have equipment certification for Cat III ILS approaches? I’d think that’s important to have since you oftentimes deal with IMC and low minimums. I do know most regional airports don’t have those available.
Most have CAT II procedures/ equipment, but that depends on fleet type and certification. As you said, a lot of that depends on the airport equipment in addition to the aircraft.
Garrett, great videos. Recently, I have been looking at changing careers. I have been a Mortgage Banker for 25 years. I make some good money. But, I have always wanted to fly airplanes. I am 56 yrs old, so making a ton of money is not a priority. However, flying would be really cool. So, at my age, is there room in the Airlines? I would not mind doing the regional airlines. Quick small flights, some overnights. 80k to 90k a year is more than enough for me to live on. My life gets covered with 4000 a month. You advise is greatly appreciated!
Garrett just bought a house, so the new job would have to fit with living in Charlotte, I would think. Or a ton of $ to make him move and not lose anything on the new house.
If he's on a flow-through program, he wouldn't have to interview. He would just transition to American directly. How do you know he's on a flow-through?
Regional airlines usually don't require a college degree, but if you want later apply for a job at major airlines they probably will require a college degree.

If i go to military when i turn 18 and stay there for a few years for aviation, how will that affect me when i go to college to become a commercial pilot?
Talking from someone in ROTC you can use the GI bill to get your ratings. If you choose to go to college to be an officer. Then you can receive a pilot slot from the military. From the knowledge I have this is kinda the best route since you get everything paid for and you get a lot of hours, and a lot of majors will hire u after your pilot commitment since you’ll have plenty of hours. But you can’t go from highschool and be a pilot in the Air Force. Hope this helps man I’m in college rn hoping for a pilot slot currently working for my private.
Hey Garett is it possible to just go to an ATP flight school and not go to 4 year college and still end up in a legacy transcontinental/long haul airline like united or american, flying 777-300ERs and stuff? I was planning on going to UND after I complete high school, I've seen online that UND patnered with most of the major american carriers and allow sped up processing to end up as an airline pilot...I'm thinking of UND since it's cheaper than embry riddle and also well known......... Thanks in advance :) Ps I really love your content.
