I'm 65, so my chance has passed, but I'd like to tell the younger guys and gals, don't put off your dreams. I was 40 yesterday. Time sprints as you get older. Start NOW! Good luck.
Trent, this is awesome, I’m a 42-year-old Police Lieutenant and I have eight years to go to retirement. I’m currently working on my private pilots license and when I retire at age 50 my plan is to have a second career as an airline pilot. You have no idea how much motivation this video has given me. Seriously gives me something exciting to look forward to. Thank you!
As an ambitious guy who has gone through the last 4 years of flight training, I can tell you that this video is 99.99% not possible. Your 8 licenses will cost you more than you budgeted, will depress you beyond belief, won’t be possible for 50% of attempted pilots. I actually do think it’s worth pursuing though, but have all the facts before you commit.
Wow I'm over here contemplating a career change at almost 31 years old thinking I'm too old for it and here you are at 50+ being an absolute G about it (compliment).
35 year old woman here, going thru my ground school with 0 zero flight hours…thank you for the information I don’t think can do it as fast as you but definitely hoping for a 2 year time line 🙏🏾
@@trent_dyrsmid I did my first ever today, Disco flight and boy oh boy the longest 40 minutes of my life but the sweetest at the same time 🤞🤞🤞 we got this
sometimes i feel behind being a 23yo wanting to go back to college or flight school, then find these type of videos and come to the realization of how young and early i actually am. thank youuu
Don’t underestimate the amount of work Trent had to put into get this done in that amount of time. It took me 4 years degree + 2 years of CFI to acquire all the knowledge to become an airline pilot. If you don’t have above average intelligence and aren’t willing to study every breathing moment, extend your time line. Just being realistic here.
I agree with you…and I’ve done my best to make that clear in my videos. I’ve generally excelled at most things in life and flying falls into that bucket. Plus, I was in a position to do this full time….and if I wasn’t, it would have taken a lot longer.
Nice job! I had my midlife crisis at age 23 and left the USN as a Diver to pursue aviation. It’s been an incredible career path ever since - worth every minute of the effort!
bro same just about to graduate from university with a management degree and I hate it. I want to do this I'm still living at home with a 50k budget and seeing this video gave me hope
I’m rooting for your success :) Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. It all helps my channel to grow and help more guys/gals like us!! BTW, I’ve got a free email course on how to become a professional pilot as fast as possible. The course covers things like how to study to the written exams, how to pick a school, how much to expect to spend, how to get financing, etc….If you’d like to gain access, just go to FlyWithTrent.com and become an email subscriber.
I teach my film students, "It's not what you know, or who you know; it's who knows you. You can know all the people in the world, but if they don't know you exist, nothing is going to happen. So place yourself in the direct path of the people you'd like to meet." That comment toward the end of the video about being present at the airport, which potentially leads to more flight instruction bookings, struck a chord with me. That is so important! Great information in this video! All the very best with your aviation endeavors!
My mentor David proved that “being at the airport” with the right ratings, can open a floodgate of students. He, like me, logged 120 hours of instruction per month.
This has been a dream of mine since my Dad surprised me with my 1st RC airplane as a kid.. My wife just surprised me with a discovery flight for my 45th birthday this month . Apparently I'd been watching A LOT of airplane / become a pilot videos and she picked up on it lol. But this series has definitely been the extra push I needed. Thanks Trent and keep them coming.
Dude! Thank you for this. I'm 45 and have spent a lot of time regretting not joining the Navy back in the day. I assumed it was pretty much all over for getting to fly the big planes. Your channel has given me so much hope, Trent. I'm meeting with my mentor this week to carve out a plan for all of this. Thank you!
👏👏👏👏 I’m so excited to hear that!!! BTW, I’ve got a free email course on how to become a professional pilot as fast as possible. Does my plan sound realistic. I want to join the Air Force and get a bachelors degree there, and somewhere down the line become an airline pilot. I would definitely like some feedback. I’m 20 yrs old btw living with my grandma so I want to come back before she passes
@@deadline3142 I wanted to do the same (I never talked to a recruiter so talk to one if you're extra serious about your plan) however I read online you have to give 10 years back. This is after four years of studying for a degree and after 2 years of flight training. So in total, you're giving 16 years of your life...
I’m 24, did my discover flight last week. Flying has been my dream as long as I can remember. I’ve been super overwhelmed by everything, and very concerned about the time it’s gonna take to get my commercial. This video has inspired me. Thank you Trent!
As a fellow 53 yr old pilot, I love what you're doing here Trent. It got me back behind the yoke about 2 weeks after your big video launch back in May. Thanks so much for giving your insights to us old dogs and saving the young ones a ton of cash by following a proven path that you've shared. To heck with the trolls ! Let them hang out in their basement playing MS Flight Simulator 2023, while you earn those three stripes on your collar. Keep up the great work. Aloha from the beaches of south Maui !
Thanks Trent .I am a burned out truck driver and to be honest with you, I don’t have an access to much guidance as far as moving forward. I’ve been sitting on my finished ground school portion and trying to figure out if moving forward is a worthy endeavor, shooting past 40years of age and wondering if I’ll be able to support myself after getting commercial license and not having enough time to get a job flying. So, videos like these do help. There aren’t many of them online though.
You're such an inspiration! I have always dreamt of becoming an airline pilot. At 50 I felt it was just way too late and impossible. Thanks for giving me food for thought.
by far the best video that explained everything in "mom" language to understand the path for my 17 yo son. He just needs to complete his solo for his PPL, currently has 40 hours in his book. Now working on the next steps in his career as a pilot. Thank you Trent.
Great video. I was 22, single, young military guy. Forked over $1000 to a flight school in Florida. Flew 55 hours, 11 of it solo. Then they told me no more flying until I take the ground school. Three months later I got orders to South Korea. Then marriage, finishing college, kids and career. The dream died. Fast forward I have a son with nearly 4,00O hours ex military who just started flying for the majors. He lives my dream! And that's fine! He loves it!!! Best of luck to you. I wish I was 15 years younger, I would try to do what you doing! God's speed!!!
I'm turning 51 next month, and your videos are actually making me think I could be a professional pilot. Can't quite "put my life on hold" right now, but you make it seem like it's still possible. I'm looking forward to watching your progress! Best of luck!
I am 42 with a Private Pilot and about 80 hours. I'd like to return to flight training and have been trying for a number of years... but life has just got in the way at every pass. I am taking drastic steps now by selling my small business and getting minimal responsibilities. I have a wife and 3 kids but we own our property and our vehicles. As soon as the business sells, I'll be debt free and have a little extra to get started on my instrument rating. We'll see how it goes. I may go back into the IT industry to continue to pay for the rest of the ratings. I won't be able to do it fast like you did, simply because I don't have the money and I don't want loans.
Glad to hear you are going for it. I wish you all the best on your path. Please keep watching videos and leaving comments with updates on your progress.
@@trent_dyrsmid hey Trent , love your videos. Would be cool to see a detailed video on the skywest cadet program for a parts 61 study. Currently working on my instrument at a parts 61
Great info! In my case, at age 58, I blocked 4 months for training and achieved my Commercial cert and Instrument rating, and finished with my CFI/Airplane. Although my brain feels like oatmeal, yes, it can be done! In our neck of the West Virginia woods (I18), we're doing Part61 training in C150s and Cherokee 140s from $110 to $140 an hour. Our goal is to have our pilots complete their Private/Commercial/IFR program at half the cost of ATP schools. Should be interesting!
You are inspiring! I'm a 59 year old, 38 year veteran law enforcement officer, on the verge of retirement. I have always dreamed of flying. I live in Venice, FL and we have a flight school here. I'm driving there this morning because of your comment.
My son is 20 and was gonna pass up the opportunity because he didn't want to be saddled with a bunch of debt. Thanks for showing us a way to achieve his goal.
We’re going to see you in 3 years or so on here as a first officer - posting a year in review video as an airline pilot!! This is motivation for everyone. Everything is possible if we make it happen
Excellent presentation! I am a retired flight engineer with A&P and several thousand hours on the B727-200 panel. I am preparing myself for a similar program as yours at Miami's Executive Airport. I am 61 and have no problem taking the challenge to go from zero to commercial in the next 6 months! I greatly appreciate your videos and your amazing dedication. Thank you very much!
I’m younger than this gentleman here, but this video still has great info. My grandfather got me into flying (May he RIP) but I couldn’t start learning until about 5 or so months ago (cuz life). Still working on my PPL now and preparing for my first Solo. I didn’t even know about DEI’s until I watched this. Keep up the vids my guy.
Hey Trent! 23 here and looking into the Aviation industry. Not a whole lot of content out there that goes this in depth on how you can save money and time. Super stoked to learn from you and see your unique plan work out!
29 years old Sergeant first class (German Army)- 5 years to go in the Military. I currently working on my licenes 💪 When i'm "free" i become a Pilot 💪 i wont waste any life time for doing any job. Thank you for your videos!
I’ve always wanted to be a pilot since being a kid, now I’m 31 and seeing your video, I haven’t been more inspired by your testimony. God bless and have a wonderful 2024 in the sky

Your story and attitude are inspirational! I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be a military pilot and then transitioned to the airline. I retired a few years ago from a 10 year stint in the USAF, followed by a 29 year career at FedEx. Thanks for sharing your journey…your laidback manner and obvious enthusiasm for aviation make your videos a pleasure to watch! All the best as you embark on the best career there is!
Stop playin w the bul!! He BOUT it! All it takes is extreme focus and dedication. I’ve NEVER listened to people that have tried to discourage me. That’s how I got my CDL as a single mom and all!!!! I believe in this man and the vision because I have SEEN focus and intention WORK 💯🎉 Much love 💕 from Philly
Trent, you truly are an inspiration. I’m 37 years old and currently pursuing my dream of becoming an airline pilot. Keep up the great work! As you said, it’s never too late to follow your dreams
You are special!! I’m 42 an immigrant still on asylum status. I tried 5yrs ago but couldn’t be eligible for aid due to my status. Since then I do saving some money for my Piloting training. I was about to loose hope adding years on my age. This video became a huge motivation and gave me a hope to chase my dream. Thank you sir! I wish I had found your video earlier so I could use your mentorship by now you must be busy flying for the major ones already.
My boyfriend is 46 years old and in a unique position to follow this path, with access to a mentor, planes, instructors, and has the finances and time to dedicate towards this goal. He asked me to watch this video and honestly, it's so exciting that it would make anyone want to consider a career change. I am in full support of a complete career change for him, and your path seems not only valid, but as a natural overachiever myself, I believe it can be done. Congratulations to you! If he follows your path, we will certainly give you credit and let you know his outcome. Great video!
I turn 35 in April. I’m currently in a stuffy office, working as a private banker, getting lazy and out of shape more and more every day. I have played Microsoft flight simulator since I was 12, been obsessed with commercial flight since then. So the other night I was sitting next to my wife as I was flying a b747 to her home state showing her all the bells and whistles and she asked me “Why didn’t you become a pilot?” That stuck with me…cause I didn’t have a good reason. Never really looked into it. Always thought it was out of grasp. Suffice to say right now I’m working hard to get in shape and healthier (I am healthy) just could be a lot better before I start having issues that would ground me. I am going to flight school.
I love hearing stories like yours…..especially when your spouse is on board. (She wants the free travel!!) I’ve just started CrossFit. My wife is a CrossFit beast and got me into it.
Thank you so much for this, Trent! I’m 41, and you’ve inspired me to take this journey. Just started studying for the written exams to get them all out of the way, and I’m getting my 1st class medical tomorrow. Thanks again!
Thanks Trent! Super inspirational. I'm following you and learning from you. Plus doing my own research. I'm working on getting my life in order to start flight school. Took my second fight yesterday. Need to make a choice between two different schools and get my medical stuff sorted out. 42 years old and burned out as a professional civil engineer. Looking for something new and awesome for the next 20 yrs! I'm in Fort Collins Colorado. But if I was in Boise I'd fly with you!
Trent, you’re an inspiration! I am 48 years old and am about to end career 1.0 to pursue my passion for aviation. Thanks for showing us that this dream can in fact become reality.
Good stuff! I am 47. My kids are getting older now and I am going to take the plunge with this as a second career. It might take a little longer than you, but I feel like I have your level of motivation, as this would be a dream I have thought about since I was 7! Good luck with your flight instructing.
You’re doing big things! It’s incredible how far you’ve come so quickly. Thanks for sharing your journey with us and inspiring everyone to follow their dream. Much gratitude- time to make it happen!
So inspiring Trent! I just finished "writing" most of my tests including Advanced Ground Instructor, just one more to go later this week which is FIA. After that probably will go do all the simulator hours, then finding a local CFI to get more dual instrument hours before my Instrument checkride. What sucks is that my plane is undergoing an overhaul which is costing a LARGE sum of cash out of pocket. Considering instructing out of my own plane when it's all done, that way I can get paid for both instruction time and time for renting out my own plane. That might just be enough for me to replace my current income. Regardless, because of you, I joined SkyWest Cadet program, you've been a true inspiration for those of us that are a bit older (I'm 47) and aspiring to be a professional pilot. Hope to meet you one day.
Turned 16, been flying since 13. Pretty close to that first solo but havent really been to from my financial trouble so I'm abit behind. Thanks for the inspiration.
I'm currently 42 y/o and retiring from the military in the next couple years. Your videos are super helpful and motivating. Thanks for the insight and looking forward to see how the rest of your journey works out.
i love your content, trent. super informative and insightful. i’m almost 30 with almost 30 hours. i’m flying 3-4x per week, documenting everything to study and post on youtube. about to solo v soon. thanks for sharing your journey. 7 ratings in 3 months is crazy 😂
I'm 35 now, I started to learn to fly right before COVID hit so my training got abruptly stopped and I haven't got back into it. I got so discouraged by everything I just never started again. I miss it so much and it's still my dream. Thank you for sharing your journey. It's helpful ❤
Trent, this is by far the most succinct, optimal, and honest video on step 1 to the end goal of a top earning commercial pilot. Your rebuttals to criticism was so relevant. And, traversing the financial and institutional educational commitments swiftly and while saving every dollar that wasn't absolutely necessary. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Been looking at wanting to experience flying a plane for over 10 years now. And likely, continue to become an airline pilot. This video has given me a realistic, executable, plan to proceed and i havent been this optimistic for personal and professional endeavors in a long time. Thank you a ton!
Thanks Trent! Very inspirational. I'm 54 with about 90 hours. Getting ready for my PPL checkride in a month or so. Been at this for about a year here in Denver. We've had insane weather this past year. I have a sweet SIM I built so hoping my instrument goes much quicker with the amount of training I can do on it at home. I'm glad you mentioned the SIM part with the school though. My current school doesn't have one but the school down the hall does. So it'll probably make sense to go there. Like following your journey. Haters will hate. At the end of the day only results matter. Thanks!!!!
@@trent_dyrsmid WOW! This is crazy! I'm 54 and wanting to get back into aviation. I earned my private in Dec.1998. I then shuttled planes between the 3 fbo's for my flight school to build free hrs. I was also an EAA Young Eagle Flight Leader for a few years.(very satisfying) Got bored and decided to move from Wisconsin to Colorado and earned a degree in aircraft maintenance and an A&P. Worked for 12 yrs as a structural tech on business jets/turbo props. Which absolutely burned me out. That's when I left aviation all together. Now, at 54, I want back in! But am hesitant bc of my age. I do not want to go ATP, but would be content as a cfi or designated examiner. You've given me hope again. My biggest hurdle, besides funds, is that i lost all my logbooks during many moves. Right now, I'm considering approaching a major flight school and reaching an agreement to go through currency, instrument, commercial, cfi/cfii, me, mei, meii, then d.e., while also offering my A&P services in trade. I don't know if that's realistic… ..but I'm going to try! Thanks for this video! Might you have any suggestions?
Hey Ron! Just wondering how you are progressing? Sounds like we are in a similar situations. I'm 54 as well, and actually live in Grand Junction, Co. Love to hear your situation.
@@lestvee4948 I have my checkride scheduled for Feb 28th! I will know more then. LOL. Should be good but I’m definitely nervous. You? Are you finished? I’ve been at this about a year and a half. I’m flying out of Centennial.
@@ron1969 That is awesome! I'll be thinking about you on the 28th. Me… I actually received my ppl on 12-8-1998. Then was a ferry pilot for about a year, shuttling planes for my fbo. Got bored, broke. You know, life happened. Decided to move from Wisconsin to Denver and got an A&P, and a degree in aviation maintenance technology. Worked for 12 yrs as a structural tech on business jets/turboprops til 2010. Then got out of aviation all together. Lost all my logbooks since. (That hurts). Now, I'm thinking about trying to work out a deal with a major flight school to fast track thru meii while hopefully working part time for them (during training) as an A&P. End goal is to be a Designated Examiner. I have no idea if that plan is possible, but I'm tired of grinding in something I don't enjoy. I'd rather work my ass off again in aviation, to at least end my working days doing something I love and miss. I'd be interested in knowing how the SIM training works out. That wasn't an option in the late 90's for me.
Thank you for this video Trent! This is all very helpful information. The pace at which you've been able to move through training is inspiring. I am 25 and doing a lot of research trying to decide how to move forward with aviation (currently have my PPL) and seeing someone like you doing it gives me a lot of motivation!
Trent, your content is so motivating! Thank you for taking the time to put these valuable videos together. My instrument check ride is scheduled for 9/4!
I'm 41 I was working as pharmacist assistant for 24years, just did my medical test, I'm going to start soon , thank you for your encouraging words, I wanna move with a same speed as you.
Just saw your video. This is so encouraging. I’m 54, current captain for the fire dept in Los Angeles .. retiring in 2024. Taking the FAA knowledge exams 2 weeks and a check ride right after! My plan is gonna be your plan….
Hi, Trent, awesome video as always! I am also in my 50s and will be looking to replicate your system and see if I can also succeed. I just took my first class medical but am severely colorblind so will have to do a one time test with the FAA to see whether I can ever get to ATP or not. Either way I'm excited to give it my best shot. Respect to you for inspiring so many of us!
Great stuff Trent! Been following since the beginning and a well deserved congratulations sir! I’m 37 and about to take my PPL check ride. This makes me consider going a different route than the way I am doing it now for sure. Thanks for all the helpful hints and tips!

As you remember I first saw your videos on May 6th and BOOM 🤯 Said "if he's 52.. and I'm 54.. i can do it!" Since I've been doing All the written tests FAA, first then beginning the flying. Congratulations once again.. words cannot describe the motivation brought on by your inspiration! Everything on piont, well researched and illustrated! I've most appreciated the insight on career opportunities and actual real time frames and what to expect. I as well have definitel plans on arriving 🛬 at a legacy airline. Hence anything you come across on any cadet programs would be extra helpful! Have a great week and congratulations 👏🏻 once again Trent 🛫👮🏻♂️

Trent, i love these videos from you! Getting ready for my first checkride and plan to start my instrument training asap and hopefully get to where you are soon! Congratulations on your accomplishments.
People are flying to other states or scheduling months in advance in the Denver area. I've spoken to a few DPEs who don't have availability for nearly 6 months out. That just seems ludicrous to me.
I’m absolutely blown away by how you managed this kind of timeline and budget. This is the kind of video that I’ve been looking for, but nobody wants to make these
Thank you. I am currently serving in the military and have 8 years before retirement and im planning on becoming an airline pilot. I've started on a degree and im currently starting my private pilot license in spring of 24.

Their definitely is if you want it bad enough. Thanks so much for watching one of my videos! i really appreciate you taking a moment to comment! i read every commemt personally 🙌
The plan was aggressive but achievable for a specific team, you and your family. A specific plan is so important. I’m sure you had set milestone and stretch goals. Your team executed. My congratulations to you and your family on completing phase one. What a testament to being laser focused.
Great info and congrats. 48 and have always regretted not going all the way to airlines due to 9/11 derailment. Inspiration from you and my mentors have got me flying towards advanced ratings again
I felt too old after my 30's to finish my flight training and pursue a career as a professional pilot. You've given me hope after recently facing some setbacks in life to pursue and a plan how to accomplish this. Thank you for this informative video.

I’m digging your motivation sir! I retired from the Air Force after 22 years as a flight engineer. Unfortunately not a whole lot of aircraft require FE’s anymore so I am wanting to be a pilot. I am 48, and after reaching out to Aero guard in phoenix they make the prospect of becoming an airline pilot at my age daunting. $109,000 for 12 months of training, living in phoenix, and then possibly hiring me as a CFI afterwards is what they told me. I received my A&P without attending a formal school so I’m thinking I’ll go ahead and knock out these written tests on my own as well. Thank you for your positivity and motivation! You’re giving us later in life motivated people the motivation that we need
Trent I am retiring from military service in a year (not a flying job) and your videos are absolutely giving me the confidence to commit to this path. Thank you.
Love the videos, I'm a 50 year old EMS Major. 5 years to go to retirement. Passed PPC written and am building hours towards my checkride. Can't wait to get into my new chosen career. My path won't be this quick because of finances and time. But I know I will be there.
49 years old considering the same thing. I think the learning curve maybe a little slower for me I've never been very academic. This is very very inspiring thank you so much!!
A pilot friend that I work with send me this video. I'll be 41 this year, and I've gotten used to aging out of different professions I'd been considering. I'm really reassured to find out that piloting isn't one of them. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of your content, and following your journey with interest.
Thank you Trent, this is very inspirational. I’m a 40-year-old started pilot training 17 years ago and got discouraged. I currently own a Cessna 150. To train in. You were very inspiring.
I'm turning 19 next year and aviation has been on my mind since I was 16 but I never got around to it because of laziness and fear but now I'm serious and looking to get into it. This video really opened up a lot of things. Thank you

I’m 33 and I want a career change and becoming a pilot is what I want to do! I just need to find a way to budget it and learn what way of studying works best for me. This is so motivating.
Thank you 1. Overview At first, he was planning to become a commercial pilot but now he put his plan into action and got a Commercial pilot's license. 2. Why become airline pilots It's a really good time to become a pilot since there are shortage of pilots right now. And airlines are putting up special offers for pilots for example more salary and that thing. 3. What he did he already has a private pilot license but his cross-country requirement didn't reach. so he did some cross-country flights. Then he took the flight school, where he studied the ground school then went up to fly, then became an actual commercial pilot. This takes about 91 days for him to complete (He put his whole life on hold and dedicated his time to studying and flying). 4. Accelerate training If you take this course mean that you will most likely forget less since the information comes into your head then you apply it right away. But you have to go to school every day for the accelerated training. A. 3 thing every flight school should have I. Enough airplanes for a student ratio II. Safe Mechanics III. DPE (Designated pilot examiner) 5. Money he spends about $50,000 (1,748,975 baht) to get his commercial flight certificate 6. Flight Instructor The flight instructor really depends on you. If you want to complete the 5000 hours of flight fast then pick a flight instructor that will fly in any condition, Or if you want to take things so slow then pick a flight instructor that will rather fly in a good condition.
I'm 39 years old. Divorced and have zero life mandates. Your videos have given me a kick in the a$$ to look back into my childhood dream of professional pilot. Thank you for making these videos. Highly motivating.
Thank You! I've been encouraging my 19 yr old grandson to pursue a career in aviation. He's got all the "right stuff". Got him a ride in a 182 with a great friend. He absolutely loved it. He's got a list of 6 different schools he's been considering. Your tips on part 61 vs 141 were invaluable to he and my son and I. Can't thank you enough.
I went to a part 61 and that is one of the reasons why I was able to accumulate my ratings so quickly. I really don’t have any experience with a part 141 school. The Internet is filled with articles, comparing one versus the other, and I would encourage that you do a bit of googling to hear from people more informed than me.
I'm so happy with this video . Thank you very much .My son is 16 years old . He is aspiring to become a pilot . Presently, he's a high school student . I wish you to be his trainer after he finished high school .
We can make that happen.
Trent, I am only 21 and aspiring to be a commercial pilot but this video gave me alot more info about what schools I should pick and how I should go about my training. Thank you very much!
Turned 46 today. I have PPL. I'm seriosly thinking about going for it. I've been a trucker since 21 and have heard about the driver shortage since the beginning. All that hype is just big trucking companies lobbying for govt money to get more drivers into the pipeline on the taxpayer's dime to keep wages low. I was set to go to ATP, 15 years ago and chickened out because I was scared of the debt. Worst mistake I ever made. Pilot pay has tripled since then while trucker pay hasn't even kept up with inflation. That's just the money. There's other reasons I'm thinking of making the jump. Great video. Subscribed.
Thank you Trent. A little younger and have just under five years until I retire my Military career and looking to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. This will set myself off on the right track.
I’m 27 and a corrections officer. I’ve always wanted to fly, especially after refueling thousands of aircraft. Also after parking my fuel truck underneath what seamed into be an impossible aircraft, the C5. I’ve been playing tonight sims for around 11 years but never had the time, or so I thought, to obtain my pilots license and become a commercial pilot. I’m about to begin the process and this video definitely helps. Thank you!
Great video Trent! My wife’s a flight attendant and has seen the worth in me becoming a pilot. It’s scary starting the process, but it’s great to know 34 isn’t too old
CFI CFII here. This is the type of advice and info I needed to hear when I started. I highly agree with what Treny said about 61 vs 141 schools. In a part 61 you have much more chance to do all the training faster. Also dont fall into the part 141 school or university trap, if you start training at 141 school and realize youre not going as fast as you would like and decide to switch schools… you will lose the restricted atp benefit that the part 141 school was offering you. That means that instead of needing 1000 for getting hired by an airline you will need 1500 hrs. Flight schools are a business after all.
Thanks for all the great info! I'm currently working a job in the oil fields of west Texas and I'm pretty miserable here to be honest. The money is great but I hate my job. I want to do something I'm passionate about and have been exploring becoming a pilot. This video was very informative and inspiring! Thank you! Sam El Paso, TX
Hey Sam….save that money, and when you have enough, quit and go to flight school! BTW, I’ve got a free email course on how to become a professional pilot as fast as possible. I'm 65, so my chance has passed, but I'd like to tell the younger guys and gals, don't put off your dreams. I was 40 yesterday. Time sprints as you get older. Start NOW! Good luck.
Well said! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. It all helps my channel to grow and help more guys/gals like us!!

I am getting ready to start this journey. Super nervous at 39 and unsure about the financial portion while trying to earn and fly at the same time.
I’m rooting for your success :)
18 here, I’ll take your advice!
Thank you!
You bet!!
Hey LT. I'm not a lieutenant, but also on the job. I'm in Cali, HBU?
✈️
As an ambitious guy who has gone through the last 4 years of flight training, I can tell you that this video is 99.99% not possible. Your 8 licenses will cost you more than you budgeted, will depress you beyond belief, won’t be possible for 50% of attempted pilots. I actually do think it’s worth pursuing though, but have all the facts before you commit.
Same here! I'm 36 going on 37 and have 6 years left in the Army and my goal after is to become and airline pilot.
Wow I'm over here contemplating a career change at almost 31 years old thinking I'm too old for it and here you are at 50+ being an absolute G about it (compliment).
Thx!
Same, I'm 34, and I'm looking into this right now.

Glad to hear that. Thank you!

have you stuck with this career path?
Me? Yes.
That’s literally what he said on the video. Maybe watch it?

I teach my film students, "It's not what you know, or who you know; it's who knows you. You can know all the people in the world, but if they don't know you exist, nothing is going to happen. So place yourself in the direct path of the people you'd like to meet." That comment toward the end of the video about being present at the airport, which potentially leads to more flight instruction bookings, struck a chord with me. That is so important! Great information in this video! All the very best with your aviation endeavors!
Thanks Errol!
It doesn't work like that in aviation...it's about experience, hours and ratings - this isn't an art 🎭
You bet! And tell your wife she’s awesome for giving you that flight!
Thank you!

Does my plan sound realistic. I want to join the Air Force and get a bachelors degree there, and somewhere down the line become an airline pilot. I would definitely like some feedback. I’m 20 yrs old btw living with my grandma so I want to come back before she passes
Yes!
@@deadline3142 I wanted to do the same (I never talked to a recruiter so talk to one if you're extra serious about your plan) however I read online you have to give 10 years back.

Thanks for sharing your comment with the community! And all the best to both you and your son!

I turn 35 in April. I’m currently in a stuffy office, working as a private banker, getting lazy and out of shape more and more every day.
I have played Microsoft flight simulator since I was 12, been obsessed with commercial flight since then.
So the other night I was sitting next to my wife as I was flying a b747 to her home state showing her all the bells and whistles and she asked me “Why didn’t you become a pilot?”
That stuck with me…cause I didn’t have a good reason.
(She wants the free travel!!)

Thanks!!!!
Thanks Ron. And yes, results is all that counts :)

WOW!
@@ron1969
That is awesome!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. It all helps my channel to grow and help more guys/gals like us!!

Just saw your video. This is so encouraging. I’m 54, current captain for the fire dept in Los Angeles .. retiring in 2024. Taking the FAA knowledge exams 2 weeks and a check ride right after! My plan is gonna be your plan….
🙌 thats terrific! Blue skies ahead!
You bet! Thanks so much for watching and taking a moment to comment! 🙌
Wow. .I didn't even know it was possible in the 50's.
🙌
Great stuff Trent! Been following since the beginning and a well deserved congratulations sir! I’m 37 and about to take my PPL check ride. This makes me consider going a different route than the way I am doing it now for sure. Thanks for all the helpful hints and tips!

How did it go did you pass?
✈️
🇺🇸👮🏻♂️✈️ Brother Trent! Nothing.. better than starting the week off on a positive note by seeing a long awaited video of yours! (It's been a while!) As you remember I first saw your videos on May 6th and BOOM 🤯 Said "if he's 52.. and I'm 54.. i can do it!" Since I've been doing All the written tests FAA, first then beginning the flying.
🙌 thats terrific! Blue skies ahead!
Thank you for this video. My wife is a flight attendant and brought me to multiple countries in just a week and all those times, my heart was saying to pursue my childhood career dream. Im 30yrs old. Praying by 35 I'll be flying the airplane she's working in.
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. It all helps my channel to grow and help more guys/gals like us!!

Well said! Thanks so much for watching and taking a moment to comment! 🙌
Trent, i love these videos from you! Getting ready for my first checkride and plan to start my instrument training asap and hopefully get to where you are soon! Congratulations on your accomplishments.
Thanks!
The DPE thing is huge!
People are flying to other states or scheduling months in advance in the Denver area. I've spoken to a few DPEs who don't have availability for nearly 6 months out. That just seems ludicrous to me.
You can thank the FAA for that.
100% that’s if you can get them to call you back! 😂
Same down here in Louisiana. We have to start talking turkey for at least a month or more in advance
🤯
I’m absolutely blown away by how you managed this kind of timeline and budget. This is the kind of video that I’ve been looking for, but nobody wants to make these
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
Thank you. I am currently serving in the military and have 8 years before retirement and im planning on becoming an airline pilot. I've started on a degree and im currently starting my private pilot license in spring of 24.
Solid strategy! Thanks so much for watching one of my videos! i really appreciate you taking a moment to comment! i read every commemt personally 🙌
Good for you. So you put on pause being a husband and be your wife's kid for 3 months. Lucky!
No, I was still a good husband… And I am very fortunate to be married to such a supportive wife!
@@trent_dyrsmid she’s a keeper. Bless her heart
🙌
I am a 45 years old single taxi driver looking into becoming a pilot. I just discovered you and I subscribed and liked right Way to hear more from you again in the future. You gave me hope that there is a way out of the rut that I am in.
Thx! Phase two (time building is going quickly and I expect to beat my goal for getting to 1500 :)
44 looking at fulfillment of childhood dream and a second career. Thanks for the immensely inspiring video Trent! Keep them coming.
Thank you! Will do!
This is a crazy story. I love it Trent. I was waiting on my PPL checkride when you started! Amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great info and congrats.
48 and have always regretted not going all the way to airlines due to 9/11 derailment. Inspiration from you and my mentors have got me flying towards advanced ratings again
Good to hear!!
I felt too old after my 30's to finish my flight training and pursue a career as a professional pilot. You've given me hope after recently facing some setbacks in life to pursue and a plan how to accomplish this. Thank you for this informative video.
You can do it!
Wow! I am a South African Air Force Pilot, looking to move to USA for a career but only have my military qualifications. This helped alot to send me in a direction to search for assistance. Thanks Trent!
You’re welcome!
My son is 17 and I am doing my homework. Thank GOD I found this video. Thank you for taking the time for others! you mean a lot to us!

🙌 thats terrific! Blue skies ahead!
Guys this really works, I watched this video and followed it start to finish, I just received my commercial pilots license!!

🙌 thats terrific! Blue skies ahead!
49 years old considering the same thing. I think the learning curve maybe a little slower for me I've never been very academic. This is very very inspiring thank you so much!!
Jerod….You’re welcome! Thanks so much for watching one of my videos! I really appreciate you taking a moment to comment!
A pilot friend that I work with send me this video. I'll be 41 this year, and I've gotten used to aging out of different professions I'd been considering. I'm really reassured to find out that piloting isn't one of them. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of your content, and following your journey with interest.
Thanks so much for watching and taking a moment to comment! 🙌
Thank you Trent, this is very inspirational. I’m a 40-year-old started pilot training 17 years ago and got discouraged. I currently own a Cessna 150. To train in. You were very inspiring.
Thanks so much for watching one of my videos! I really appreciate you taking a moment to comment! I read every comment personally 🙌

🙌🙌
Thank you
1. Overview
At first, he was planning to become a commercial pilot but now he put his plan into action and got a Commercial pilot's license.
2. Why become airline pilots
It's a really good time to become a pilot since there are shortage of pilots right now. And airlines are putting up special offers for pilots for example more salary and that thing.
3. What he did
he already has a private pilot license but his cross-country requirement didn't reach. so he did some cross-country flights. Then he took the flight school, where he studied the ground school then went up to fly, then became an actual commercial pilot. This takes about 91 days for him to complete (He put his whole life on hold and dedicated his time to studying and flying).
4. Accelerate training
If you take this course mean that you will most likely forget less since the information comes into your head then you apply it right away. But you have to go to school every day for the accelerated training.
A. 3 thing every flight school should have
I. Enough airplanes for a student ratio
II. Safe Mechanics
III. DPE (Designated pilot examiner)
5. Money
he spends about $50,000 (1,748,975 baht) to get his commercial flight certificate
6. Flight Instructor
The flight instructor really depends on you. If you want to complete the 5000 hours of flight fast then pick a flight instructor that will fly in any condition, Or if you want to take things so slow then pick a flight instructor that will rather fly in a good condition.

100% percent. Way easier to focus on a skill. Most people don't get that luxury. Congratulations on completing all these cases so quickly.
Thx!
You are an example of DEDICATION!!! An example of what is possible when you go for it!!! GOD bless you!!!
Wow, thank you!
Wow! You are an inspiration! I'm 55 and find my life changing dramatically recently. Food for thought!
Rock on! Thanks so much for watching and taking a moment to comment! 🙌
I'm 39 years old. Divorced and have zero life mandates. Your videos have given me a kick in the a$$ to look back into my childhood dream of professional pilot. Thank you for making these videos. Highly motivating.
Thanks so much for watching one of my videos! i really appreciate you taking a moment to comment! i read every commemt personally 🙌
LOVED this content. 42 years old and got my commercial in my 20’s. Considering getting back into it to be a pro pilot! Huge thanks!

I’m actually starting this pathway as an 18-year-old, and I really appreciate your work on this video and channel!
You’re welcome!
Trent, I am only 21 and aspiring to be a commercial pilot but this video gave me alot more info about what schools I should pick and how I should go about my training. Thank you very much!
Glad I could help!
It has been a dream of mine for years to be a pilot. I'm finally at a point in life where it can be possible. Thank you for your information and time.
You’re welcome! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. It all helps my channel to grow and help more guys/gals like us!!
Subscribed.
Welcome!
Thank you Trent. A little younger and have just under five years until I retire my Military career and looking to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. This will set myself off on the right track.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you!
🙌🙌👍
Great video Trent! My wife’s a flight attendant and has seen the worth in me becoming a pilot. It’s scary starting the process, but it’s great to know 34 isn’t too old
Thx John! I’m rooting for your success :)
Good insights. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for all the great info! I'm currently working a job in the oil fields of west Texas and I'm pretty miserable here to be honest. The money is great but I hate my job. I want to do something I'm passionate about and have been exploring becoming a pilot. This video was very informative and inspiring! Thank you!

Hey Sam….save that money, and when you have enough, quit and go to flight school!
