But, since pilots have to have so many hours of rest, the typical 737 pilot makes a little over 100K per year. I retired 8 years ago at age 55 from a Fortune 50 company that had warehouse workers making that much or more a year. Most worked 12 hour days five days a week, but were home with their families every night.
Having spend a long career at a major....something here than needs to be point out I think...Look where he is living ....one of the most pricey and expensive cities in the world. NY. So what is that 213 an hour really worth ? Not really a commutable schedule in a 737 ....so he is kind of forced to live there...or it will come out of his body and time away commuting back and forth to his base. Flip side....many younger pilots now not really looking at non major airline altenatives...like flying boxes.... Usually far better and commutable schedules. (1 week on..10 days off..etc....) ..flying better routes. ..What is difference between getting up at 4 am or going to bed at 6 am ? Not sure. Ah the glory of being an airline pilot.
I had this playing the background while working. And I swore I heard him say, “white boy Garrett is back in full effect” 😂😂😂. I wound it back and he said, “white board Garrett” hahahahaha. Good stuff in this video.
What is the difference between some pilots getting paid based on 75-80 hours per month of flight time and the method you are breaking down? Are you required to meet a certain number of monthly hours or flights per month even when you try to fly the minimum amount? If you only fly one day a month, based on one turn, would that be all someone makes (the $1500)? Trying to understand the different tiers of pay. Thanks for sharing!
Sorry but the numbers you have for hourly rate seems way off. From pilot central a United fo on 737 with four years seniority the pay is listed as $161 to $168/hr. Where is $213 coming from?
I would say because your always talking about seniority , then upgrade to Captain and begin getting that Captain seniority sooner rather than later, then transition to wide body or stay narrow body

My head is spinning! I don't quite understand why he's discussing Time Away from Base? That would be like us Dilberts talking about our commute to work?
I think he was just saying one flight pays 1500 and he's gone 9 hours vs the other flight paying say 2200 to be gone 40 hours. It's not worth 700 to be gone so long
After 20 years of military flying and 20 years of Commercial work.....do not underestimate the cost on your health. Pilots are paid much for their work - and there is a huge toll to be paid with health. Pilots notoriously underestimate the impacts on health trying to get back home with maximum $ in their pocket.

Да пейзаж у тебя за окном конечно великолепный.. отдельный респект твоей любимой девушке Беллле
Well said brother.
Must be a rough commute from Williamsburg to JFK. Smart to bid early and beat the traffic!
absolutely love this guy!
so if jfk/dfw paid $1556, what did jfk /phx pay? $2130?
I had this playing the background while working. And I swore I heard him say, “white boy Garrett is back in full effect” 😂😂😂. I wound it back and he said, “white board Garrett” hahahahaha. Good stuff in this video.
$213/hr is nice but how many hours you work per week? Or are you paid only when you are flying?
Just curious though, how much is your rent or mortgage payment?
What is the difference between some pilots getting paid based on 75-80 hours per month of flight time and the method you are breaking down? Are you required to meet a certain number of monthly hours or flights per month even when you try to fly the minimum amount? If you only fly one day a month, based on one turn, would that be all someone makes (the $1500)? Trying to understand the different tiers of pay. Thanks for sharing!
How much does that equate to a month? How many flight days would a typical month have?
Sorry but the numbers you have for hourly rate seems way off. From pilot central a United fo on 737 with four years seniority the pay is listed as $161 to $168/hr. Where is $213 coming from?
Really enjoy your channel Garrett let’s see some golf too
should i stick stick with plumbing or become an ATP? $213.87 ehhhh......
all my pilot friends have so much time off its crazy how much free time they have......
I would say because your always talking about seniority , then upgrade to Captain and begin getting that Captain seniority sooner rather than later, then transition to wide body or stay narrow body
@@sirjasonakana you never know he could upgrade down the road but right now if his his life .. his job right now is good for him when he’s busy with other things and Bella..
Sorry, this is a weird question, but what earbuds do you use? I absolutely love your channel!!!
@@mmgando they look like the AirPod the second generation but I’m couldn’t been wrong though
Thanks @@xowestcoast09xo
@@mmgando no problem:) everytime
So what was the total compensation for the JFK-PHX example including time away from base?
Do you ever get bored with the long leg flights, genuine question? Does it get old after awhile
Do the pilots spraying our skies make more money?
appreciate the transparency
he went to college right
.. BS ? where?
What regional he flew at ?
Many air traffic controller’s are outraged that pilot’s get paid way more than them and luxury vacation’s, etc.
If you upgrade to 737 CA next year, will you get paid as a 5th year CA? Same thing with the wide body, would you start out as a 5th year wide body FO or does it reset to first year pay every time you upgrade?
Starts at 5th year
Great video!
I would love if you did a video on upgrading to captain or going to widebodys!
@@bloomer-v5f you never know what can happend.. I’m should he upgrade down the road but right now his job perfect for him went he busy with other things his life and Bella
@@bloomer-v5f you never know what could happen he could upgrade down the road but right now if how busy he is and other things he’s working on his job is perfect for him right now
As a flight dispatcher in Nigeria, I get paid a 100USD per month
Even tho your on the 737 , can you take a trip on the 321 , if that is an option for you ???
It would be great to know more how the promotion happens, i can’t fund that answer anywhere, keep up with the good videos 😁
What brand pilot shirt do you use? Flight?
Hi! I’m interested in this career field. The only thing is I’m single and have a 8 month old puppy. Is this something I can maintain while going to pilot school and getting into the career? I love him so much and would never get rid of him but I also want to be able to pursue a successful career. I love flights and traveling.
I'm on A320 for lufthansa for 13 (!) years and I get (after tax) around 115$/h pay per block hour. we only get paid block hours.every other duty or ground courses with the company (emergency training and so on) is not paid extra. and our management always tells us pilots we're going to ruin the company and our salaries are not competitive. but hey promotion to captain is waiting at around 20 years seniority right now with lufthansa :D but even then we will ne get close to your FO salary in year 4 :D :D
you're very inspiring man !
You should watch the 1990 documentary “Jet jockey’s” great documentary.
Very interesting. Lots of jargon too. You're shifting back and forth from left to right side of the board a little too much for me, it's distracting.
Hey Garrett I’m a student pilot about to start my instrument at University i was wondering if there was a stipulation in Airline contracts that prevents pilots from posting videos affiliated with the airlines name or if it’s just avoided to not sway people to one airline or another? Thanks for all the insight in your videos
Hey, how much do you have to pay out of pocket to become student pilot?
Your dog probably has anxiety because your work schedule sucks for a pet owner. Especially if you are living alone. One of the downsides to my career as a firefighter/paramedic working 24, 48, 72 hour and beyond shifts. How many hours are you getting paid for in an average month?
Sounds good. About how much/year.
