For anyone wondering those planes with "BETA" on them are from BETA Cargo (Brazilian Express Transportes Aéreos), founded in 1990 had a total of 5 planes, one Boeing 707-320C and 4 Douglas DC-8-73CF, they ceased operations in July of 2012 after there license was revoked. Looks like right there are 2 of the DC-8 and the 1 707. Since both type of planes were already over 10 years out of production when Beta was founded in 1990 they propably found no one to sell them to and they have been sitting on that airfield for 11 years now. The Green MAP planes belong to "MAP Linhas Aéreas", still active currently operates 5 ATRs of various types. These 2 there are missing the props and landing gear, so i am assuming they are used for spare parts.
One of those dc8s is hopefully going to be going back to New Zealand as part of the bird our birds home campaign which is trying to have one of all the different aircraft types air New Zealand had
Great video. I like these kinds of videos because they show what's it really like to be an international cargo pilot. Its hard work and not for everybody. I for one, appreciate Kelsey sharing his day with us.
That’s certainly not my cup of tea working in conditions like that. Hats off to you. The world functions with the help of very skilled professionals that participate in logistics. My tip for never leaving anything behind in a hotel room: I always get a room with two beds. I sleep on the bed that's closest to the window and put my stuff on the bed that's closest to the door. I NEVER put anything closer to the window than where I'm sleeping-that way my stuff is always in front of me. Once the "stuff" bed is clear then I know that I have all my stuff. It's never failed me.
And not have a King Bed? No thanks. All u have to do is do a final walk through. In 30 years, I’ve forgotten things only twice. Both times I didn’t do a final walk through. What I do do, I put a work shoe in the safe with my passports and wallet. That way I never forget what’s in the safe.
The reason you need to lock those doors is due to certification of the aircraft for taxi, takeoff, and landing (TTL). When an aircraft is certified, there is a certain default configuration that some items have to be in (seats, doors, cabinets, etc.) in order for them to behave properly in the event of a crash. Those 'close when not in use' things are placards that are required to be there by the aviation authorities to inform the user of how the item needs to be configured. Seeing as that is a door, it also probably has to be locked when not in use for blowout load strength in case of a sudden depressurization event. It probably would not pass the stress analysis for a depressurization event, and those deadbolts are there to keep the door affixed to the monument so it doesn't become a projectile and decapitate somebody.
Good morning, sir. I'm so glad we still have the ability see your videos every week. Your inner strength is seen and appreciated. Have a beautiful week!
It's great to see your company (and/or your colleagues) finally taking a more relaxed attitude to you filming while actually operating. I think this is the first of your videos I've seen where it's not "camera off before pushback". It's how it should be - everything's so professional so what's to hide?
@@swilleh_ Exactly. People change with the wind. God forbid a crash were to happen the same people would all point to these videos and question why the company allowed filming in the first place. People flip flop everyday.
I've flown in a few 747's and one was really old and to be honest I loved every minute just knowing how legendary this plane is and how many miles it had flown.
Definitely like this kind of real-life documentary format. Your humour serves you well and that was unlikely to be seen in most previous posts from the past.
Kelsey, I LOVE your channel!! I am an older , retired woman and I have no connection to aviation; but, your 74 Gear channel fascinates me!! My folks did drive us to Logan Airport when we were growing up, just to watch planes taking off and landing. It was quite exciting. Now, I am learning so many things I never knew. I am not so anxious anymore about flying either. You have explained how many back-up" systems are built into the planes to prevent accidents, and just how safe flight really is. Also, your love of aviation really shines through. Thanks for all you do!!
Your exhaustion level looks about the same as mine after a day of teaching early elementary music to about 90 kids. I thank you for bringing flowers back for us to enjoy during these dismal winter months of cold! Great vlog! Have a great week everyone!
I don't know how you do it, I spent today teaching art to 12 adults and I'm broken! 😂 I decided I need to get into training to get fit for the next session!
Tip from a flight attendant: to make your coffee much much much stronger ( for your coworkers ) , we usually do not place two filters inside the coffee " drawer ". When we lower the handle , it has a tendency sometimes to puncture the coffee filters, hence having coffee grounds all over . Instead, what we do , just brew your coffee with one regular filter, then INSERT INSIDE THE COFFEE POT, another filter. That's how we make our Java strong to last during our " circadian lows" or super early wake-up. ⏰️ Love your videos my friend! 😍😉

The Quito airport is downright FANCY compared to how it looked 20+ years ago when I was last there...any sort of duty-free at all is a major step up! I lived there off and on from 1994-2001 and watching planes land in that high, narrow valley was always entertaining. My first home was on the valley floor just a couple of miles south of the runway--I could look up while doing laundry on my roof and see the rivets on the bellies of the planes.

THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! So many non pilots like me had no idea that piloting would be that intense and involved. I also think cargo would be tougher than passengers with all the safety checks they gotta worry about etc. i recently saw a plane go down because of fire, it must be a little worrying at times. but that view would be something. you get to see the world and thats cool! keep up the great work Kelsey!
You should have podcast-style conversations with your freighter/commercial pilot friends so we can hear about their careers in aviation and the cool/interesting stories they have. That would be real cool to watch!

And after the zillionth fail they tried to wash off the residue from the oven plates with water. They decided "screw it, it's never going to get better than this nasty crap, so we'll tell the white man it was on purpose and sell them our waste". The rest is history.
Interesting! I did wonder! Thank you!
I would think that if they are being scrapped, there are cheaper places and ways to do it.
One of those dc8s is hopefully going to be going back to New Zealand as part of the bird our birds home campaign which is trying to have one of all the different aircraft types air New Zealand had

Yeah, I used to do this, it really worked for me… apart from that one battery charger.

And not have a King Bed? No thanks. All u have to do is do a final walk through. In 30 years, I’ve forgotten things only twice. Both times I didn’t do a final walk through.

The 'behind the scenes' and 'tourist' videos are awesome Kelsey. Thank you.
It's great to see your company (and/or your colleagues) finally taking a more relaxed attitude to you filming while actually operating. I think this is the first of your videos I've seen where it's not "camera off before pushback". It's how it should be - everything's so professional so what's to hide?
so the pilots would be focused on flying a plane instead of making content for social media
@@swilleh_ Exactly. People change with the wind. God forbid a crash were to happen the same people would all point to these videos and question why the company allowed filming in the first place. People flip flop everyday.

Kelsey, I LOVE your channel!! I am an older , retired woman and I have no connection to aviation; but, your 74 Gear channel fascinates me!! ⏰️

@@waterlife.1905 Funny you mention Starbucks bc it has been proven that within all the instant coffee /coffee shops brands, Starbucks has one of the lowest amount of caffeine per cup.

So you are one of the underappreciated pilots that bring roses to the US for Valentine's Day! Thank you!!

Though I never understood how people are making such a fuss about the rinsing water used to flush away burnt residue... After all, that's what coffee is: they had a bean that wasn't eatable, so they tried a bunch of things to maybe make it consumable. And after the zillionth fail they tried to wash off the residue from the oven plates with water. They decided "screw it, it's never going to get better than this nasty crap, so we'll tell the white man it was on purpose and sell them our waste". The rest is history.
