- Never played Dark Souls, never played a Souls-Like, but I've heard from many of you that they are amazing! So I guess it's time for me to put my big-boy pants on and give one of these a try. Things I've been told to expect:
- I'm gonna die a lot

lol... I'm SUPER excited though to delve into the genre that has defined what a 'challenging video game' looks like. I really hope you have an awesome time, and if you do, it would be amazing if you'd consider subscribing.

"don't you dare go hollow" is an endearing term between players. It can also refer to your personal mental health IRL.
Many people create posts about how Dark Souls saved them. They talk about learning stoic principles from the game and it transferring to the real world.
Personally Dark Souls taught me to cope with a cruel unfair world, to suck it up and get good.
I learned that in my early 20's, then in my early 30's I lost my job, my home, my wife, my kids and living on a friend's couch I booted up Dark Souls to pass the time and I was reminded "don't dare go hollow". Helped me find the strength to stand back up and keep going even after losing everything.
Wow - that's quite a story Bryce... great job getting back up after all that. I see what you mean though about the game teaching you not to give up... appreciate you sharing that. :-)
I usually don't share this with people but I still find this comment a little bit relatable. Both Dark Souls and RDR2 helped me. I have lost my so called "friends" who I thought they were loyal and honest with me meanwhile I was like, the most loyal and honest person with them, just for me to be ghosted by them a year later, no explanation, yeah, I did have my flaws but I was going to work on them. So I have played both RDR2 and Dark Souls for me to cope and forget about everything, and I got a lot of strength from characters with their powerful messages and the hardships they had to go through. So now I am here saying to myself that people who say "its nice to have a new friend" are full of crap, because I kid you not, it happened again, I "met" someone, they said "its nice to have a new friend like you" we talked, and oh wouldn't you know it, silence from them after I asked a question. And they have proved my point that what they say is not what they mean. I really didn't think much of it either because again, 2 games I have played, and I also wasn't interested in getting new "friends" anyways. So yeah, I have had enough being a loyal person to people I meet and then treat me like garbage, I never get the same treatment. People who I meet will have to earn my loyalty. I wish nothing bad upon these people, but I hope those people get the same treatment as I did. However, its good that I am back on my feet and I feel a bit more powerful now after playing those 2 games.

33:52 I think this message is a reference to the speedrunning community. It's possible to clip out of the map on those stairs and access a later part of the game early. It requires a very specific setup and would be nearly impossible to do accidentally.
Congrats on finding your first illusory wall! Most don't have any sort of visual difference from all the other walls...you'll mostly have to rely on messages pointing them out.
The other thing I'd say is don't think of messages as spoilers...think of them as helpful aides that are very much an intended game mechanic. (sometimes they can lead you astray...you need to interpret for yourself!)
Thanks for the feedback Xcaughta - I think the next episode I come to the same conclusion... since this game is supposed to be a community effort, I decided the short orange messages can be very helpful community tips. Of course, I do have to be weary of the occasional 'troll' message...lol.
I love waking up, making some coffee and settling in for a little morning dark souls.
Dark souls is such a good teacher. I bet you won't go on a parkour run next time you have just enough souls for what you want lol.

The "Magic" system in the game consists of two elements. Attunement, and the Magic itself. Attunement is your Spell/Miracle slots and has its own stat. Sorcery is soul magic and depends on the Intelligence stat to use spells and uses Catalysts to cast. Miracles derive power from the gods and scale with the Faith stat and use Talismans to cast. You can also Two-Hand your weapons for some extra damage by pressing the Y button. Stay safe Friend, and don't you dare go Hollow.
Fun fact for the future: souls games LOVE to hide secrets in elevator type areas, keep a lookout when your riding one! Also loving the uploads, keep up the good work :)

Outside of a couple specific scenarios you are always better off using a ring that actually helps you stay alive than a ring of sacrifice. The main situation where a ring of sacrifice can be really good is when you die while carrying a lot of souls/humanity. If you wear the ring of sacrifice while attempting to recover your blood splat it will provide you with a layer of protection. If you die before you recover your splat the ring will break but your splat will not disappear. You get a 2nd chance to recover those valuable resources. Once you recover your souls then you can equip a more useful ring again.
There's another good time to use a ring of sacrifice later but I won't spoil it 😜
Appreciate the advice there Chris, that's a great idea. I thought I might try equipping it if I'm running with a lot of souls, and about to enter what might be a fight for the first time.

Darkroot Garden / Basin is my second favorite are in the game . I just love the nature esthetic and the sounds of the wildlife . The most relaxing area in the game .
The good thing about Ilusion walls is that your fellow players can let you know thru messages .
Are you planning on playing the DLC . If so I recommend to do it later but before the ending .
Oh, there's DLC? How do I play a DLC before finishing the original game? I haven't heard of that ability before.
@@BenjamightGaming Right now you are kinda early for it since there are steps you need to do later in game . But what you can do right now is to defeat a certain multi headed beast at the base of Darkroot Basin and explore the lake in that area , there is no time limit or anything so you can try this later as well . The DLC is an expansion for the main game that adds new areas , bosses and expands on the lore . Since you are playing the remastered it should be included .

Not a spoiler: The "secret" message is referring to a speed running strategy. If you parry a hollow there you can glitch through the steps and skip large parts of the game.
You couldn't and wouldn't do that.
Ah, thanks for clarifying Bryce. I'm definitely not a speed running... more of a turtle in my playthroughs...lol.
a great way to farm souls in the early game is to go back to the bridge with the dragon and bait it to kill the hollows.
Oh sweet - I think killing the stone knights is my current favorite, because getting 600 per fight is pretty awesome.
53:15 You certainly have an interesting way of sitting at that bonfire XD It's funny how the sitting animation gets messed up sometimes
The illusory walls are the main reason I suggest playing the game online, because there's no way you would find them otherwise. Maybe if you went out of your way to check every wall, but someone with absolutely no outside knowledge would not even know there are fake walls in the game in the first place!
You are so right Ethan... it looked exactly like a normal wall - I kept hoping there would be a hint of sorts, but nope - you literally just to just randomly find it...lol. I do appreciate the help messages.
@@BenjamightGaming Well it makes sense when you realize that Dark Souls was designed as a multiplayer experience. It was SUPPOSED to be a game where you help each other out to find the secrets, whether that's with the messages or by talking to each other outside of the game.
That's why it makes no sense for people to say that the messages or using summons is "cheating", because the game was designed that way.
\o/ Covenents are mostly pvp/co op related you can join or leave with no penalty so do not warry abaut it
| The bonus flask that you recived is from a player in that region that also kindled its own bonfire ( same way you did with your 2 humanity )
| | you almost solved the spell system , dont forget to equip the talisman as weapon or shield
Oh nice... can I use/learn magic spells without being a part of the convenant as well, or do I have to join to get the spells?
@@BenjamightGaming Most of them can be used without a covenant, but there are about 2% of them that are only for those who are part of the specific covenant (the heal that you want to use , can be used withouth a covenent)
did you know you can poke with the spear with the schield up ?
I recently learned that and start to do it a little in a future episode.
the covenants are more for PvP then anything else though the NPCs for the covenants will sale a variety of stuff.
I'm definitely trying to avoid anything PvP...lol.

but there are a few Black Knights in the whole game. I guess some of them respawn.
in darkroot area, there is one black knight.
Black Knights have 20% chance of dropping the strongest weapon in Dark Souls 1. (& i mean the strongest)
i hope you find it.
(Bonus) also having more humanity or a special ring boosts item discovery rate.
I think (from another comment I saw from you) I might have got the weapon.

have you tried to give a sword a try it's kind of better than spear.
I haven't went back to a sword much yet, but I think I'm going to raise up my strength some so I can test of some of the newer ones I've found.
@BenjamightGaming that Black Knight Sword you got would be a great one to start with. It swings slower than say, the katana, but it packs some serious punch.
@@AaronWilliamGilbert94 that sword will be slower because of low strenght but deal more damage. can be fixed by raising sword.

Going hollow is more than leaving, is loosing faith, is loosing hope, is loosing everything that holds your soul, and your soundness, in the world.
Many did before you, and many others will.
You can't stop others from going hollow, you can only care about your own safety.
The phrase "don't you dare go hollow" it's not just a hope for you not to leave, is a reminder from a friend to not giving up on yourself.
Well you can stop others from going hollow by helping them.
You can also cause many people to go hollow by helping them 😂

No worries Iamnoone, I plan to correct this in future recordings. I've recorded through Part 17 so far though, so you might hear me say it wrong still until then. ;-)
You can wield weapons with both hands that you normally cannot use with one hand due to insufficient strength, such as a halberd. Also you do more damage that way.
I'm definitely going to give that Halberd a try in an upcoming episode... I've had a few people recommend it to me now.
