  • Never played Dark Souls, never played a Souls-Like, but I've heard from many of you that they are amazing! So I guess it's time for me to put my big-boy pants on and give one of these a try. Things I've been told to expect:
    - I'm gonna die a lot
    - I'm gonna die a lot
    - I'm gonna die a lot
    - I might want to throw my PC out a window
    lol... I'm SUPER excited though to delve into the genre that has defined what a 'challenging video game' looks like. I really hope you have an awesome time, and if you do, it would be amazing if you'd consider subscribing.
    Thanks,
    Benjamight

    About shield stats:
    The attack stats on the left of the screen only apply if you bash with the shield (a.k.a. basically useless stat unless you are planning an attacking with shield). It doesn't apply to your primary weapon attack damage.
    Probably the most misunderstood shield stat for a new player is *stability* . It is super important if you plan on blocking a lot. Basically the higher the number, the less stamina it takes for you to block an attack. It can be confusing because the difference from shield to shield may only be plus or minus five, which doesn't seem like a big deal. But the difference between, say, 55 and 60 stability actually makes a big difference in the amount of hits you can absorb before staggering.

    Moonlight butterfly is basically the boss that forces you to start rolling so I'm glad you figured it out because after DS1 design of these games leans more and more into rolling rather than blocking as primary option
    You still can block in future games but it's just not worth it if you don't make an entire build around it so it's better to start learning how to roll now

    So the thing i will say, different enemies has more resistance to certain type of damage, for example these crystal golems,you could deal more damage to them if you use blunt weapon like a club or mace and such, its like trying to smash a rock with a hammer vs trying to stab it with a knife!! And special souls are late game thing,you should kust keep them for now
    Also upgrading armor is kind of a waste,only DS 1 has this feature,nobody uses it lol

    • @BenjamightGaming
      @BenjamightGaming  29 дней назад +2

      Appreciate the tips Lakosta, thank you. So future DS games don't even have armour upgrades? Wow, that's crazy. I can see why so many people keep saying to not waste souls on it in this one...lol.

    • @boblionia
      @boblionia 26 дней назад

      @BenjamightGaming upgrading armour isn't a waste, it's just very low priority. You will always perform better with upgraded armour, but your souls are better spent on weapon upgrades and levels until you have plenty of spare souls to use.
      Fully upgraded armour is pretty much necessary for PVP/NG+ and general high-level play as well as a good way to help give new players a bit of an edge, it's just very expensive for the early game.

    • @boblionia
      @boblionia 26 дней назад

      @@BenjamightGamingbut the damage type thing is very true, piercing/blunt/etc damage types make a lot of difference in DS1. The damage type is tied to each attack animation as opposed to the weapon, so look out for things like the Partisan which has very distinct damage types based on light/heavy attacks as well as 1/2-handing the weapon.
      Also note that elemental damage/resistances are more important in this game than the rest of the entire genre and enemy weaknesses to damage type and elemental type is something you can work out yourself with some critical thought.

    That number is your attack damage when you shield bash. (Or equip right hand as a weapon)

  • @xcaughta147
    @xcaughta147 29 дней назад +2

    Don't worry about upgrading armor at this point...you'll lock yourself into a certain set and you should be more open to trying out new ones. And upgrade materials are limited at this point in the game, so you'll possibly find some cool new stuff and be unable to upgrade it which will further lock you into this early game armor.
    Definitely want to focus the upgrading towards the weapons (not shields either)
    I'm also not sure how worth it it is to spend your capture time in the blacksmith and bottomless box...might be spending a bit too much time on those relatively meaningless decisions.
    Same thing with the slow walks...I get that you're trying to be cautious but it doesn't lend itself to very enthralling gameplay if I'm being honest

    • @BenjamightGaming
      @BenjamightGaming  29 дней назад +2

      Appreciate the feedback Xcaughta, I'll definitely keep that in mind. I definitely agree that dropping bottomless box moments from the playthrough wouldn't be a big loss. I'm a bit hesitant to cut too much walking, because I know that's a part of the experience and it gives me a chance to share my thoughts about different aspects... I've done a couple swoosh moments where I knew I was running from Point A to Point B and straight back to Point A... but that hasn't happened too often. Perhaps I can consider cutting more of these too. Again, always appreciate the feedback on how I can make the videos better. :-)

    Benefits of humanity
    - invasions by NPCs (these NPC invaders sometimes drop items, this is why you should do your best to be in human form in every new area)
    - at +10 humanity, whether in human form or not, it raises item discovery
    - at +10 humanity, human form or not, there are certain weapons that get stronger if you stay at 10 humanity
    So there are some perks to humanity offline as well. Personally, since you aren't doing much for online I'd just switch to offline to avoid message spoilers left by players and so you don't get invaded. See, the remaster kinda messed up matchmaking - matchmaking goes off of levels + weapon upgrades. Here's the thing though, let's say that Black Knight you just beat dropped his weapon - his weapon would be equivalent to a +10 weapon in matchmaking so you are going to open up the pool of invaders that are going to come into your world very tough. Unless you know the mechanics of the game very well, and some of these invaders have been playing the game for over a decade now, it will end up being a pretty miserable experience.
