It's a LONG-SHOT... But I Gotta Try! | Lets Play Dark Souls [Part 15]

- Never played Dark Souls, never played a Souls-Like, but I've heard from many of you that they are amazing! So I guess it's time for me to put my big-boy pants on and give one of these a try. Things I've been told to expect:
- I'm gonna die a lot
- I'm gonna die a lot
- I'm gonna die a lot
- I might want to throw my PC out a window
lol... I'm SUPER excited though to delve into the genre that has defined what a 'challenging video game' looks like. I really hope you have an awesome time, and if you do, it would be amazing if you'd consider subscribing.
Thanks,
Benjamight Игры
Haha, you sure walked a long way just to come full circle
Oh jeez all excited to go through a door which just leads to the area you spent most of the episode in😵
He really just no scoped a hydra head...
You can manual aim with the bow, I forget the button, but you did it when you were backed against a wall trying to fight the gargoyle dragon thing, and the orange X was on your screen, that was first person aiming mode.
Oh, so there is a way to do that on purpose...lol, I thought the game glitched or something after the target got too close. I absolutely want to find that, because stand and slightly turning is too janky to really work.
In Dark Souls there's 2 schools of thought when it comes to rolling. The first one is to rely on it and trust in your rolling skills to avoid most damage, and the other is to ignore rolling, stack the heavist armors and shields and become THE WALL. Rolling is indeed the choice of many players, but it's not the only one.
Also, where the episode ended... can't wait to see your reaction to where that door leads.
Man, playing as 'The Wall' does sound kind of epic. To be able to stare some big creature in the face, take a hit, and be like "Is that all you got!" Oh boy, I'm going to have to try that in one of these games...lol.
I think there is a tiny sweet spot, but you're right about being against the rock like you said, the splash goes through (or around) the rock.
Oh well, Bow can still be used for other squishy enemies!
Also, could be wrong about this, but I believe enemies made of hard surfaces, take less damage from stabby pointy weapons, and take more damage from blunt weapons and/or heavy attacks.
Could be a different game I am thinking of, but light attacks on something made of crystal or rock can do reduced damage if it's a stabby weapon ,(because how do you stab a rock logic) but heavy attacks can pierce, and blunt weapons smash.
Thanks for the tip Christopher... I do say, getting to wield one of those HUUUUUGE clubs I see from the bloodstains of people sometimes does look like it would be fun, and probably would smash some rock-type creatures pretty good. ;-)
Current death count : 64
The silence during the elevator fall is golden .
Hope this means you will use the bow from now on , but not on overpowered enemies ( unless you have the patience ) .
lol - yeah, I'm starting to do better (and smarter...lol) moves with the bow in upcoming episodes.
When it comes to that Hydra fight, the game was trying to steer you into the water, by placing an item in there for you to loot, exploiting natural greed of players who would be willing to die for loot. I'm sure you will figure it out.
Also that person who told you to kill NPC... they might not have been trolling you. NPC have some interesting weapons to loot, but on the other hand many provide invaluable services or are vital part of story you would rob yourself of experiencing. Some NPC are murderers so murdering them can be ok even for the story, some will murder/attempt to murder you and you can choose to let them live or take revenge. The choice is in your hands.
I do go back and explore the water area a bit more in an upcoming episode. :-)
Well, I would say rolling is good to set up yourself for future games. However, in this game it's intended to either play with fast rolls or play as a tank with high poise. It just comes down to your personal preference.
The reason I have said not to upgrade your armor is because you don't get a very good return for your investment, but because you're stuck in the same armor for so long maybe it was beneficial for you.
Armor in dark souls can be a lot like tools in a toolbelt. You have a set you're comfortable in, like your current set, then you get into heavy armor for some bosses, you get into lighter armor for other bosses or areas, you equip some armor for it's unique properties (such as a highly fire resistant set you'll get later).
I hadn't considered running with different sets for different situations... I'll have to keep that in mind, thank you Bryce.
@@BenjamightGaming dark souls is difficult ... Because you lack the tools to handle the problems. As the game goes on you collect "tools in your tool belt" in the form of weapons, rings, armor, shields, and usable items.
Don't get loured into the trap of thinking this is a traditioal rpg.
I recommend just wearing whatever you think looks cool and let's you move quick. (The community calls this "fashion souls" lol).
Then when you get to a difficult boss or area try all your other options.
There's even future locations that might cause you to wear completely different armor to suite the situation.
I think the way to manual zoom on bow is L1 or left bumper. Could Be wrong but that feels right. Thanks for the uploads, been LOVING the near constant footage!
You're welcome MrMan, and thank you for the tip - I find the aim ability very soon, but I can't remember which episode.
@@BenjamightGamingyou can also aim with Binoculars for anything that doesnt have an aim option (crossbows/fire bombs/throwing knives)
Since you are so far ahead of these videos, I'm certain you've figured this out by now, but "basement key" and "watchtower basement key" are two different items.
Enjoying following your playthrough!
Thanks Shelton, really appreciate the feedback & tip. :-)
@@BenjamightGamingalways read the description of your keys
Fun useless fact: These drakes sound effect when they get hurt/staggered is the same sound Doctor Who used on one of their episodes (I forgot which episode but it was in the tenth Doctor's seasons)
AMAZING! I am a big fan of Dr.Who (though I don't get to watch them any more since they aren't free on Amazon), but that's a super cool fact - thanks for sharing Theceptorperson.
If you treat every hard area like a wall then you will be stuck.
There are some enemies where the trap is actually fighting them instead of running past them. It's not that they can't be killed, but they are so strong that it's a waste of resources, time, and energy to fight them, but the area right behind them will be much easier.
You will never do good damage against certain enemies.
That being said, you missed a very very significant area in the undead burg. There was a locked door that you picked a key up for and you haven't circled back to use the key.
*Most keys open a few areas, so don't open one door and assume that was the end of the key.
Thanks Bryce... JUST found that area yesterday when recording Parts 18 & 19. :-)
@@BenjamightGamingoh no! Haha. Yeah it's been funny watching you wander into areas and I'm like "yup, I know how this is about to go"
I feel like the little worm in Jim Henson's the Labyrinth "don't go that way, never go that way". "Should have gone THAT way, would have led straight there" lol.
lol - that's awesome.
If you do get stuck I don't think people will hold it against you since the alternative would be to just stop playing. However, if you do want to do that, I would first advice retracing your steps, since if you can find the way with out looking it up it will feel more rewarding.
Either way I'm loving the videos :)
Thanks MrMan - no chance of me quitting, that's for sure. :-)
Tip if you spend 20k to open that door ..you can farm enemies and get that 20k back fast with no worries the bonfire is close to the door
Appreciate the tip Shawn, thank you... definitely something I'll have to consider.
Luckily arrows don't increase equip load. At least I have never noticed it ignore they do.
ah yes the good old gravity boss takes another soul in elevator :D
you can aim but not sure what buton is for you i usualy play with mause and keyboard, but be carefull works only for bows, crossbows dosnt has it
lol - I ran RIGHT off that ledge. Thanks for the heads up about the aim option - I figure it out in an upcoming episode.
@@BenjamightGaming np cant wait to see the next episod it remainds me how it was when i first started the game :D
do you make more videos in 1 day or you make the video in the day you also post it?
also if the sun dosnt look bright you can allweys look closer:D you will know what it means on the next episod if you have not been there yet
I typically record most of my videos on the weekend, and spend my evenings during the week editing. Unless I start to get way ahead on content, I just drop 1 video a day - alternating back & forth on my 2 active playthroughs. Members get the video as soon as it clears RUclips, basically as a thank you for helping support the channel, and sometimes that means several videos in 1 day and other times they go several days without anything new...lol, just depends on my work week.
ay ay ay! i'm he're with another "fun" fact!:
someone named "ymfah" has challenged himself to beat all dark souls games without..... guess what? WALKING, no pressing W or moving that movement stick, he moves by attacking, looks around using binoculars, stripping him from accessing more useful starter items, he can't use ladders meaning he straight up can't go to special areas that give good gear, forcing him to make do with bad or mid tier gear, no special moves, utilizing some absurd mechanics that normal players look over to beat the game, without stepping even ONCE
so far he has beat DS2 AND DS3, apparently DS1 is impossible due to the fact that you need to use a ladder to contuinue forward at some point, dude's lost it
edit: about your question about whether or not you'll reach 3 digit damage, i think it's possible to make a build that can one shot anything, there's a video on it, i think you can even reach 5 digit with the right gear, condition and buffs, so probably
Waaaaaaaaaait.... WHAT!? No Walking! That's absolutely absurd! I mean... who thinks this stuff up...lol. I feel like such a crappy player now, dying multiple times to enemies that this guy now beats without even using a move key and proper gear...lol. I love the fact you shared this wish me, because it's amazing, but man... what a blow to my self-esteem...lol.
Hi Ben! Just wondering, how can I become a member of your channel? Thanks!
Hello Aktivera, I really appreciate you wanting to join as a channel Member. You should find a 'Join' button located (typically) under the video - if you click that, I think it takes you to the Member sign up page. Also, if you go to the 'Home' tab on my RUclips page, you'll see a 'Join' button on the right side, next to the displayed images of other Members.
Hope that helps & thanks again for considering joining. 🙂
