Danny Lion Exactly, I have been trying to lose weight for years but always got stuck and just rebelled by eating crap. Now I know why.. I recently noticed that Windsor brand table salt has these listed ingredients: "Salt, Calcium Silicate, SUGAR, Potassium Iodide." I don't recall in previous years common table salt containing sugar. I just thought this might be the best place to share this. Sugar IS in nearly everything packaged... and of course, thank you for the great videos!
the common table salt normally has a additive that prevents it from clumping but it hasn't ever been a healthy options. I think it's the worst type of salt when it comes to nutrition.
I’ve quit sugar for 3 months before but fell right back into addiction. If you’re like me then you can’t have a “cheat day” because it turns right back into addiction again.
@@Ye11owgiraffe its okay to relapse! if u shame yourself for it you’ll feel more guilty and like its unchangable, just remember its a minor setback and not a life sentence
Everything that feels great can lead to an addiction. There are only two options to deal with it, moderate consumption or total abstinence. And moderate consumption is definitely harder than total abstinence.
Try replacing the dessert with something that feels similar. For dessert I will often have a little bowl of sesame butter sweetened with glycerin and add hot melted butter. Sometimes I add flavoring too. Adds fat, tiny bit of sweetness and mouthfeel. So when I think about desserts and then remember that I can have my sesame butter, it makes me feel better and crave the sweet less. I'm guessing a small bowl of whipped cream would do the trick too.
Jade Damboise Rail You can always have some dark chocolate or fruit. Mandarinas or oranges are great for helping breaking down meat/dark meat, I’ve heard.
Glad you mentioned how fruits and berries are healthy because they are fiber-bound. Try eating more than a couple of apples, you likely won't be craving more apples, or sugar.
Not only that, but the sugar in fruit is glucose, whereas the sugar in soda and other processed foods is high fructose corn syrup. Your body digests these very differently and glucose is typically better for your long term health.
@@ChosenMan450 Don't wiggle out of your statement. Apple contains glucose but it contains mostly fructose. There is a reason why fructose is called fruit sugar. Google it.
I am eating much less sugar now then before. Now everytime there is birthday at work, and people bring cakes from bakeries, I cannot even take a taste. These cakes have so much honey, syrup, etc in it I find it hard to digest. Its so overpowering I cant eat it. So longer you are off without it, then more clearily you taste how much sugar there is

I gave up sugar last summer and those first two weeks I experienced severe withdrawal symptoms. Afterwards, I felt better. Then a month afterwards, I felt 10 years younger! Two months afterwards I realized I hadn't come down with the cold since I quit sugar. Then came the holidays and I really fell off the wagon. The more sugar you eat, the less satisfying it is and the more amounts you crave. Now, the end of January and I am getting over my 4th cold in 2 months and I came back to this video in order to quit again. Thank you for posting this, it is helping me and I am certain many other people are being helped as well.
@@jstar1000 I have considered that, but no cold medications seem to help? But mucinex does. I would love to see an allergy specialist but my insurance doesn't have any in network.
No doubt in my mind that sugar compromises the immune system. Too much sugar, and I immediately start to get a cold. Definitely a cold... not allergies. (Literally tell-tale symptoms start within 30 - 60 minutes.) If caught in time, I can head off cold with megadoses of vit C.
I've gone from eating cakes, biscuits & chocolate daily to almost completely cutting out added sugars. I haven't tried to completely cut it out because I realise it's a big task.. I'm still eating bread, which I need at the moment to make sure I eat breakfast & lunch. Maybe soon I can change bread for something else. My sugar fix is coming from raisins & fruit, but after about 2 weeks, it's not even a fix any more, just a part of my diet. I did notice I was getting headaches, but this explains it. When I'm comfortable with a complete no-added sugar diet, I'm going after the nicotine. I'll be irrepressible!
Yep. When you better yourself, people see it as a judgement on themselves. They may lash out at you, try and sabotage you, etc. I know everyone in my circle (friends, family.) unconsciously and actively try to sabotage me. It's hard when your circle is against you. Take care.
I was one who dismissed all this for 30+ years. Wasn"t that fat. Didn't eat all day. Thought "Shut up, I'm fine. Buncha preachy food wingnuts don't look any better than me." Then someone young died from a heart attack. So I checked it out. What a huge subject.
As a type 1 diabetic, I "accidentally" found out that keeping a food diary that you update on the go, and not after the fact, keeps me from over eating or eating things in larger portions than I intended. I weigh the food, calculate the carbs and take the required dose of insulin for the food - now I know exactly how much I will eat. I can't eat more than this, because I have dosed my insulin for the meal I'm eating, and if I want more, I have to go through the entire cumbersome process all over again (something I'm usually not inclined to do). Maybe non-diabetics could start a similar routine without actually injecting insulin, of course? Weigh the food, calculate some macronutrient (like carbs) and write it down and then eat. And start this process over if you want seconds - it keeps you mindful of what and how much you eat. :)
Have you considered that the only reason we need the insulin is for food that have carbs or sugar in them ? Suppose we stopped eating those foods, afterall, the body has no need of sugar or carbs, none, there is no essential carb and the few part of the body that need some sugar have sugar made for them by the body itself. so, then there is no more need for insulin, right ~?
yes, getting a food journal app that calculates macronutrients and keeps track of your calories can help tremendously. adapting your method for non-diabetics might look like planning the day's food in advance in the app, or planning your portion before you eat it and recording it in the app. It's not as high stakes of course, but it's an idea. I've used MyPlate (nospon lol) for just a week just to record and analyze my meals, and it's extremely insightful.
What's even worse, is that they're advertising food as diabetic-friendly or keto food when it's not; so even when you try to educate yourself, advertising is still manipulating you.
o0Avalon0o don’t buy food that’s advertised to you. Go old school and make everything from scratch. I started with hello fresh but just googling tons a recipes helps a lot and RUclips budget diets for us economically challenged 🙂
hilliuno Me too, but I have to thank my parents. In my childhood I would never have any particularly sweetened food, and whenever I felt like having candy my mom would just let me have a couple and I was good for another month without even thinking about it!
J my grandmother fed me honey when I was one.... that's probably why I have such a sweet tooth haha xD I think if you're fed sweets at young age when your palates developing you will always love /crave them when your older unless you change your habits. My brother was fed sour and spicy food and barely likes sweets..
I used to eat when I got emotional. I rationalized that I was upset, so I deserved to eat whatever I wanted. So to change, whenever I got emotional, I just didn't eat. Now I no longer find it difficult to resist sweets when I'm emotional.
I'm so glad you spoke about the bliss point, when I was off the sugar I also stopped basically everything store bought cos they all had sugar in them, horrifically annoying
I’m 615 days since cutting out sugar. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I’m so much healthier. It’s so easy to maintain a balanced weight. Fruit always tastes amazing. Lots of other friends have even tried following suit. Deep down, everyone knows that sugar is terrible. P.s. I love all your videos. Beyond the core bits that make them so informative... for me, it’s the Simpsons clips and Zelda music
That's why the more healthier I become, the fewer friends I have because most of those friends don't prioritize their health. They give into their impulses.
This is so interesting. You can actually notice that in periods that you have eaten desserts over at friends or whatever, you actually start craving it at home as well. Wether in times where you don't consume sweets or desserts for a while, you stop thinking about it entirely!
Slowly going through my transfrmation. 7 months cigarette free. recently stopped drinking alcohol. now looking forward to cutting down my sugar intake as much as possible. I can already see amazing transformation in my physic.
Great work thank you... I'm on month 4 of a keto diet.. Blocked out all processed sugars and dropped a ton of weight. Never felt so good.. I'm at war with sugar for the rest of my days, cheers.
You also have to ignore all of the people around you like your friends and family who still think that sugar is a normal part of the diet. That part can be hard.
you have the choice between well prepared food in restaurants, there are even healthy fast food places popping up, but most of these are costly. Then there are services that ship the meals right to your door every day. Also quite pricey. Or you develop a new hobby. I mean, there was a time when making and cooking food was done out of necessity because there weren't so many places to grab food at. I'm from a rural area and if you didn't want to circulate in the same two restaurants and same two fast food restaurants you better learnt how to cook for yourself and actually enjoy the process. Also, there are hundreds of one pot recipes, 15 minute meals etc. to find online.

The analogy with quitting smoking is apt and the importance of understanding how one won't be giving up anything useful by quitting smoking or sugar cannot be understated. I really tried for a long time to quit smoking but never succeeded until I came to believe that quitting is a 100% gain, no losses involved. I quit cold turkey but kept some nicotine patches on hand in case some kind of craving seemed too great. After a day or two I knew I had beat the addiction and threw my patches in the trash. The relief of quitting was so great that I cried. I haven't touched a tobacco product since but I do occasionally refresh what I learned about the addiction and its effects. Quitting processed sugars is similar but much easier and it is videos like this which provide the knowledge needed develop the frame of mind which makes quitting easier.
Limiting your sugar intake is so important. Since I’ve done so, I’ve felt so much better and lighter since I’m not storing the extra fat that the sugar used to build on me.
At the beginning of this year I quit sugar, and after a while I hated it! I felt happy and lost a bunch of weight, but ever since the holidays have come around everything has begun to change, and I’m so sick of it, I feel super guilty and I’m already gaining weight again, so I really hope this video helps!
The key to quitting any addiction is to find healthy substitutes which give you as much pleasure. (e.g., substitute sweet fruits such as Envy apples for processed sugar).
I didn’t eat sugar for a weak and I had extreme fatigue, headaches, and muscle tiredness. I drank some coffee and teas with stevia and had a stevia chocolate at one point. When I went to a breakfast spot I ordered a pancake and a salad..after a week I was super scared because I know that I’m trying to lose weight and get off the sugar train but surprisingly I didn’t finish the pancake (with no syrup) and usually I can down about two.. I also ate most of my salad first (the dressing probably had a bit of sugar not sure). It also felt super sweet.. and then I went to the movie theater and just watched the movie.. no popcorn, no chips, no snacks, no cold drink I was like who am I becoming? Lol but seriously, I’m so happy that I’ve been trying to implement these changes. I see the possibilities of cutting out sugar for overall health already. Videos like these help me to really keep pushing. I don’t want my kids to have sugar addicted childhoods like I did .. I had no clue what I was doing to my body for years. And neither did my parents! Love the info.

Awesome! Oh and make sure the Sauerkraut is UNPASTEURIZED. Most Sauerkraut IS pasteurized which cooks out all of the beneficial bacteria for the sake of longer preservation, which is insane because it is the whole reason for eating it. The same with honey. Pasteurizing honey cooks out all of the good stuff. :)

yeah same. i wouldn't say i get full from drinking things before i eat (pop, juice, whatever), but i have to watch how much i drink or i won't be able to finish my whole meal. it's actually quite annoying sometimes because i'm trying to gain weight.
I found zero effort to cut out food with added sugars. no cravings. I think it helps I ate relatively healthy before so maybe a gradual approach might also work for some. going much higher fat is also a huge help. I lost all my excess weight which was only a few KGS in a couple of weeks though since I upped fat, cut sugar and reduced grain consumption. it also doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing. every few weeks I might have a really nice piece of cake or something and it is really special and savored. I save my occasions of sugar to be really intentional, rare and high quality foods, not junk.

I had 100 kg for a long time with 184 cm. I smoked a lot but one day I just stopped because I understood how bad it is. I moved to 110 kg and at that point I said no more. It led me to sugars. Same as with smoking - I just stopped, being aware of the negative effects. With working out, I feel great and my weight is dropping like crazy :)
im so glad i got into nutrition and started learning to cook from scratch. it really is such a simple yet rewarding thing to do for yourself if you have the time for it. not only do i feel better and have lost a bit of unnecessary weight, i don't waste so much money on expensive takeout.
I was once a soda addict, but it wasn't just the sugar. When attempting to go from soda to water, I eventually failed. But going from soda to non-sweetened carbonated lime water worked. I really like the burn of carbonation and that helped wean me off daily soda intake. Much in the same way, if quitting smoking, replacing it with vaping is frequently effective. My grandmother smoked for 50 years or so before she started vaping and then finally quitting altogether.

I recently noticed that Windsor brand table salt has these listed ingredients: "Salt, Calcium Silicate, SUGAR, Potassium Iodide." I don't recall in previous years common table salt containing sugar. I’ve quit sugar for 3 months before but fell right back into addiction. If you’re like me then you can’t have a “cheat day” because it turns right back into addiction again.

Everything that feels great can lead to an addiction. There are only two options to deal with it, moderate consumption or total abstinence. And moderate consumption is definitely harder than total abstinence.
I didn't have dessert at lunch today. TINY IMPROVEMENT. I'll take it.
Jade Damboise Rail Way to go! I'm getting there! I've been trying to avoid the cake🍰 and grab an apple🍎 instead!😁
Or a peach or some berries! Yum!
Omar Abdul-Malik DHEd, MPAS, PA-C Congrats! If you had cake in front of you and you went for apple, wow. You deserve a standing ovation and a metal!

Keli Kleinhans Same here! This video REALLY inspired me! I fell off the wagon also. However, I'm going to give up sugar and caffiene, again!

If you felt so much better after giving up sugar why would you start back or at least why would you wait so long to quit again?

We
Thanks I’ll try it out!
Na you can just do it. We'll enjoy not having diabetes and just eat a little bit healthier but not alot just to feel better about ourselves.
I'm proud to have quit drinking soda. I feel the same way how people feel when they've been sober from alcohol for a long time.
I looked it up, soda is actually worse than beer, which blows me away tbh
Has the same effect on your liver
What's even worse, is that they're advertising food as diabetic-friendly or keto food when it's not; so even when you try to educate yourself, advertising is still manipulating you.
o0Avalon0o don’t buy food that’s advertised to you. Go old school and make everything from scratch. I started with hello fresh but just googling tons a recipes helps a lot and RUclips budget diets for us economically challenged 🙂

I used to eat when I got emotional. I rationalized that I was upset, so I deserved to eat whatever I wanted. So to change, whenever I got emotional, I just didn't eat. Now I no longer find it difficult to resist sweets when I'm emotional.

Just seeing sugary food releases insulin huh. That explains why you have so many in the video: not to tempt us but to increase weight loss!

Turn off the TV, throw it out the window. Then start learning to cook your own food. And not with those instant meals.
Agreed! Awesome advice but not so easy to accomplish if you are an addict. :) That requires to take control on the brain.
You also have to ignore all of the people around you like your friends and family who still think that sugar is a normal part of the diet. That part can be hard.

David Duncan Lol, I had to laugh out loud at this one comment like "The key to the ketogenic diet is to kill your friends and family" XD
Mr. Handy Hey, are you ok? Do you need any help? I'd love to help if I can. :)
The real issue:
You have to cook all of your own food.
This is time-consuming,
I'm not gonna lie!
you have the choice between well prepared food in restaurants, there are even healthy fast food places popping up, but most of these are costly.
Jule Caesara Yes! I wish canned foods weren’t loaded with sodium and whatever else is in them, too. 🙂
@@AudiobookLibrary24-7 If you rinse canned beans etc, you wash off a considerable amount of sodium and other things you may wish to exclude from your food
I get past this by making large casseroles/bakes and dividing them into individual portion sizes for quick frozen meals. It's worth it to spend one Sunday making prepared dishes to last over the next couple weeks.
@@stephaniemitchell8509 absolutely true, and I am lucky enough to have the space for and a freezer, but not every student has. Also, I am a great fighter of meal prep à la five containers with exactly the same food for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. If I have to eat the same dish three times in a row, no matter how tasty it is, it gets boring
Bingo! Yep this is just like letting go of any addiction. Drugs or booze. Now sugar. I've done them all. It's a complete psychic change.

I found zero effort to cut out food with added sugars. no cravings. I think it helps I ate relatively healthy before so maybe a gradual approach might also work for some. going much higher fat is also a huge help. I lost all my excess weight which was only a few KGS in a couple of weeks though since I upped fat, cut sugar and reduced grain consumption. it also doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing. every few weeks I might have a really nice piece of cake or something and it is really special and savored.
